I love that you actually got on the phone with an engineer from Valvoline!!! This is the kind of content I love cause it’s not just a person reading the product label, but getting the actual science from an engineer.
You know, when I heard Ben say "we're going to fab some mounts to make it fit", I was actually expecting to see a pro doing it. So glad that he actually did it himself! Great work, Ben!
rotary community is going strong. mazda still makes them new, and if you do any motorsport on a rotary, you can sign up for a mazda compclub and get a new engine for less than a rebuild will run you.
I'm actually wondering where do they get these background music? It's calming, soothing and it makes me feels like I'm meditating. Always have GaG videos played in the background because of the great editing, the great music, commentary and pretty much everything is so perfect!
I love the road trips but I also really enjoy content like this. I don't think I will ever own an RX7 at least not with a rotary in it, but I enjoy learning about this stuff.
@@TrinomCZ There's a bit of both camps are true. The warmer an engine runs, the more efficiently it combusts, you are correct. Some racers though will run lower temps so that the thermostat opens prematurely, in an attempt to keep temps down while running full throttle for long periods. You are correct in your assertion that a lower thermostat alone will not solve an overheating issue.
New coolant is always so satisfying. My NA MX5 had brown rusty coolant with a little bit of like slush puppie type residue, when I got a new radiator as mine was blocked up and put it with new coolant in it felt very nice knowing it's all cleaned up in there - and it fixing my pretty serious overheating issue was a bonus.
It's funny as your fabrication skills grow, going back and looking at some of your old stuff. You look at old mounts or things that you made and you're like ugh why did I make it like that? What was I thinking? 😂
This was one of my rx7 builds in pixel car racer but ended up selling it for a Lexus LFA..infact all my cars in pixel car racers are x class cars. My fastest drag car is the gtr nismo that goes 6.3 in the 1/4 mile...
Bro tip: when trying to twist a bit of aluminum or metal if it's not too thick. Use a crescent wrench instead of pliers so you don't damage the surface, and you have more leverage too 👌
If you picked upba vacuum coolant filler it wouldn't require much of any bleeding. Aswell it would give you a preliminary check for any leaks if it can hold vacuum before sucking in coolant. Keep up the awesome Rx7 content!
Great job on the brackets Ben, working alone on the car sucks sometimes but it’s therapeutic if you ask me 😂. You gotta get get an “AirLift” bleeder to bleed that yellow thang! I use it on all my cars works flawlessly every time, no air pockets left behind! 👌🏼
the FD is the only car that you have to fill the coolant reservoir twice and your gas tank twice just to bleed all the air out, it takes so long you’ll run out of gas 😂
Here in the eu, blue and green cooland are usualy the same and can even be mixed , if necessary. Red or yellow may never be mixed with another colour. The amount of glycol is important if you live in cold areas. You dont want water in your system in a cold area. It could destroy your engine with expansion if it freezes.
There is a coolant hose connected close to the intake manifold and elbow, its much much faster and easier to bleed disconnecting from that hose as your filling up. Once you see that hose dripping coolant, and the radiator cap coolant to the top, then your pretty much good to go, 10 minutes max!!! I had my FD for 13 years so I know.
Ben, I absolutely HATE PowerFCs, but your car needs a retune, buddy. I'll take care of it for you whenever you're ready. Thanks for the great content as always!
Also don't know if you have a thermo pellet delete or not but if you pull off the coolant line going to the throttle body when your filling your coolant from empty if bleeds up alot easier
I absolutely love this series! I was expecting this cooling system upgrade! This is awesome, you guys are such an inspiration for young car guys with no car like me xD I can't believe you trusted an eBay unit on such a long roadtrip lol Just a small doubt, won't the radiator get real dirty from all the contaminents on road ? Asking as it's sitting right under and it's exposed.
in the future Ben, when you want to make templates use the cardboard from things like cereal boxes or Mac'n cheese boxes. they are allot easier to bend and cut with scissors. this series makes me want to resurrect my 2.4L turbo first gen neon😏
You guys gonna post a nice map of the roadtrip that shows all the highways and so on you went on. So we can get a visual representation of roadtrip's routes you took for all the states. We get why you only barely touch some states and big trips thru others. Its understandable.
Koyorad was definitely the right choice. I have one on my RX-8 and love it although I also love the cheap eBay special radiator on my SA too. Either one does their jobs very well
You should take of you’re cooling hose on the back side of you’re throttle body and hold it as low as possible while u fill coolant, will make the bleeding process much easier 😊
Air takes the path of least resistance you need to close up the back where they meet at v and possibly some side shrouds. While it works in the cold weather now it will not be optimal once it gets warm outside
This Keisuke Takahashi is way more friendly than in the anime
LOL
Ben's description saying "Master Fabricator" while hes on call is peak humor
Yes, had me a good chuckle with that

FYI Ben Mishimoto makes a low temp thermostat that opens around 70 C. Available on Banzai Racing’s website.
Why would you use that? The ideal operating temperature is somewhere close 100°C.
