@@lynnmckenney1987 Same dude, K swaps are great and reliable but everyone does it and I really want to see something different from them.
Now that the bumper has been cut, please put on a comically big diffuser.
Don’t forget about the other Toyota engine swap options! You can go for the four cylinder 1AR/2AR(wayyyy better than the 2ZZ) or the 2GR V6 if you are crazy! Marc from Frankenstein Motorworks makes all the parts for these engines to bolt right in.

2AR is not a better motor by any means, just a larger one. ClubTR has restrictions on larger displacement motors and internals, 2AR needs internals to do any impressive power for its size, while the 2ZZ makes about the same power stock but responds well to bolt ons. 2ZZ also isn’t an increase in displacement, so there will be no weight penalty for the ClubTR class
I would love to see a full custom AR head with better valve angles and porting with VVTLi from the 2ZZ, could see 240hp all motor

Should be great little build! I always wanted to pick one of these up and copy the super simple parts list and specs that made the Techno Spirit MR-S so comically quick for what it was. All the info is available to the public too!
Just got my kswap running and I love it. I had a 2ZZ and I wanted to do an NA build. I sent 2 2ZZ blocks to the machine shop and neither were within spec and I didn’t want to sleeve them (the mmc cylinder walls means you can’t bore the block). I dug the hole deeper and went kswap. Couple things to note:
If you go k24 you will lose AC unless you want to custom fab. My plan for the winter is to take the bracket for the swap and just machine new holes that shift the compressor further down since the engine is taller. So I think it is possible.
The header you use needs to be for the k24 or your exhaust will interfere with the rear subframe.
There’s a lot of vibration and rattles. I partially blame the previous owner for not using the right hardware to hold on body panels and interior panels, so I’m battling that right now. If you install a rollbar, you will need to cut the interior panels for the storage compartments behind the seat which will get rid of a lot of interior sound insulation.
The shifter feel is the sloppiest part of the car. Everyone misses getting into 3rd and they skip to 5th. Apparently there’s a solution that allows you to use oem honda shift cables but I have not tried it yet. It also means no center console.
That’s all I can think of for now for things that many people don’t mention. Good luck!

I would HIGHLY recommend the AR engine swap, Marc is the man to get a hold of at Frankenstein motorworks
I'd personally like to see a K-swap, since Ben has two K-swapped cars would be interesting to see Ben's take on it, maybe build it to be in the same class as Ben's Civic for some rivalry

you will not be disappointed with MRS. I now have 2, 2004 stock and 2005 Kswaped one. both are lovely and will stay with me for long time.
There are some 1zz with 700 whp on Puerto Rico with pretty much a turbo, pistons, rods and a good tune!!

Then again, the whole point was to have a nearly stock, NA motor that was more reliable and less strung out than his high HP Evo.

Damn, Toyota needs a MR-2 successor. Maybe get a rebadge from Lotus and make it a GR-2, perhaps? Emira already has Toyota V6 engine.
Unfortunately, focus groups turned it in to a midship crossover with the moniker only. These are skyrocketing in price, because the reality is Toyota will never make a bare bones street legal go kart again.

2zz-ge with a supercharger or turbo would be great for the track coming in around 450-500 hp. On top of that lotus has a lot of good support for that engine and you can also get that computer for it to runnn

Are you sure you got all the guts out of the Catalytic? If you were worried about it before I'd be more worried about it now. You can always get a stainless tubular header off Ebay for $100.

I've always wanted to build a weekend toy street/track car from one of these. So, I will be following this with great interest. I have to say that you made a bold choice in "canvasses" to start with. LOL
Little tip from a 1zz racer, I'm slow so take it with grain of salt, 1zz engines respond very well to boost, being known to make 250-270 wheel on 11 psi (don't push it past 250 for track use, rods go snap). If you are going to swap, the 2zz can run a 1zz pan, so that was a good purchase if you end up wanting to go 2zz. Good luck and welcome to the boat anchor 1zz gang.

Exactly. The k engines are awesome, but they are one of the worst sounding Honda engines. They are the ones that end up sounding like fartcans.

Don't listen to the bs propaganda. The EPA does not care about modifications to gasoline engines. They're mostly coming after sellers that are distributing diesel emissions defeat stuff, and very rarely, some hondata stuff with a focus on emissions defeats. They don't care about w 1.8 L Corolla engine.
@@jimchance5006 They definitely do care. Some shops that specifically do track-only fabrications, builds, and installs have been sent cease and desists and even shut down or audited. There's plenty of video evidence on UA-cam. I do agree that their main goal is taking off the diesel emissions bypasses but that's why they're being so quiet about trying to go for motorsport. They don't want people to know because people would get mad.

Don’t even care what the content covers, your style of narration so far on this MR2 series receives an instant like
Speaking as someone who owns a 2zz swapped MR2 Spyder, the 2zz engine is a great candidate for a really fun track car. The motor is easy to source, very fun to drive (with a 6 speed trans) and is very reliable in stock form. If you are looking into modifying the engine in the future for high horse power, than go with the K series.
5 spokes look so good on this car. Toyota really did the OEM wheels right. But is harder to find aftermarket 5 spokes with 4 bolt holes. Nice Advans!
