3 BKP Bridge Pickups Compared: Nailbomb VS Aftermath VS Painkiller

- All tones are straight into my Revv Generator 7-40, into a PRS 1x12 (SM57/58) and a Mission KM 2x12p (SE Electronics Ribbon Mic).
I used only the bridge pickups, with volume and tone maxed. The pickup heights are very similar on each guitar...fairly close to the strings.

Always great to see you upload! You’re such a positive and happy dude it makes my day. Btw if you haven’t already tried it, the Dimarzio X2N is something else and I keep going back to it even after fishmans, BKP and even other dimarzio pups. Pickups are super subjective because we are all searching for a different sort of grind from our instruments but I am always pleased at how chewy the distortion created with the X2N is. I much prefer my fishman abasis for cleans but The X2N has not failed to distort even the cleanest amps. Thanks as always for making these videos.

Something that people should note here is that the nailbombs and the painkillers are covered pickups, meaning that they got nickel covers on top of em to make em look pretty; which means that some high ends are going to be rolled off compared to the uncovered aftermaths
i own the 7 string version of all 3 of these. only difference is i got the ceramic nailbomb. well done and accurate.

Leaning towards the Aftermath. I have an 8 string that needs pups badly. For djent/doom. Any experience with Guitarmory pups? Great review.
Nailbomb = neck for solos
Painkiller = bridge for riffs
Probably a great combo haha. I was pressed for time here so I didn't engage a boost, but I'm a huge fan of how the nb reacts when boosted.
Ceramic Nail Bomb might suit better.

Ive been searching for the right pickups for my new 8 string that's coming this spring. I've only ever played acoustic but have always wanted to play the heaviest of 10001010 sequential and I think I've narrowed it down to the Lundgren M8's or the Bareknuckle Painkillers. They're pretty similar in sound and have that nice glassy top end with the tight bottom.
I just ordered the painkiller in bridge and cold sweat in neck, It was really close between the PK and Nailbomb for me too man, but ultimately I like the more punchy mids in the painkiller, just hope it blends nicely with my guitars wood, and that it doesn’t sound too muddy or overwhelming on my setup. I’ve heard it pairs nicely with mahogany though, it’s goin in a Schecter cr6 and I’m fucking ecstatic waiting for them bro.

May I ask more broadly what string gauge you use for your 8 strings and for what tuning. I'm having trouble chosing string gauges haha
Sure man.
I play standard, half step down. If it's an 8 string, I use a low Eb.
For 7 strings, I usually prefer the super light elixir optiwebs.
8 string, I'm using the string source amethyst sets!
If i may butt in. I use boomers 10-80. And i also tune a 1/2 step down. Nice snappy F. But i might switch to slinky 9-80 cuz that soloing feels softer. Got the idea from Arnold plays guitar😀

The Nailbomb’s were horrid in every way. It’s like they thought, “Let’s take all the niftiest parts of Nailbomb and their stripped down rawness, and then make it sound like it’s coming through mud.”
