Set in German-occupied Norway, this is the based on a true story of the remarkable efforts of the Norwegian resistance to sabotage the German development of the atomic bomb. Resistance fighter Knut Straud (Richard Harris) enlists the reluctant physicist Dr. Rolf Pedersen (Kirk Douglas) in an effort to destroy the German heavy water production plant near the village of Rjukan in rural Telemark. In the process, Pedersen discovers that his ex-wife Anna (Ulla Jacobsson) and her uncle (Sir Michael Redgrave) have also joined the resistance. British commandos dispatched to destroy the plant are killed when their glider hits the mountainside at night. An improvised raid by the resistance ends in the partial destruction of the heavy water canisters, but the contingency plans of Reichskommissar Terboven (Eric Porter) enable the Germans to resume production quickly...

    Hi Steven,
These type of men on a mission movies were great watching as a young movie fan, when men were men in movies & Kirk Douglas & Richard Harris do not disappoint, its one i"ve not seen in years so i might hunt down a copy as i"ve always enjoyed the work of Anthony Mann.
"The Guns of Navarone" & "Where Eagles dare" are more known obviously but this one should get more notice as well, fine review as always.

Thanks as always for checking out the video buddy, I'd love to see a nice UK blu ray of this so I can replace the ancient DVD copy I have. I do think the French have a Blu-Ray... Take care mate. 👏📽

Yes, nice war film. But did you know that most films about the Second World War were produced in the 1960s. The reason was that many survivors wanted to tell their stories from those years and to film their trauma.

My grandmother lent me the "Skis against the Atom" book. I remember really enjoying that, but I forgot the title, and I was searching for it for a long time then found it again a few weeks ago. It's not as dramatic as the film as you mention.

I was 11 and saw this with mates in the cinema. They talked all the way through. I couldn’t concentrate on the film at all. Maybe I should try again nearly 60 years on My only memory is talk about heavy water 🤷🏻. Thanks as always for the review
