Nice meta ad

You've easily become my absolute favorite channel for movie reviews. Thanks for the great content, bro!
How would you compare this film to Bushwick with Dave Bautista?
I saw it last night and thought the movie was good for what it is mainly because it's thought provoking and the concept is so real, even though its fiction.
Conflict of Nations sponsoring every review of this movie is the greatest marketing play ever

Jesse Plemons Fun Fact: He was a last minute replacement for this film. Nobody wanted this part really, and the guy who was gonna play the role dropped out sick. Kirsten told Alex hey, Jesse's here with our kids, soooo? 😁 And Jesse went to local thrift stores and grabbed a bunch of sunglasses and stuff for Alex to choose from when he did the lines. Alex was sold and Jesse was most definitely probably better than whoever called in sick. Edit: For clarity, Jesse is married to Kirsten in case you didn't know.
Thats awesome!
I want his glasses
The fact he went from playing, arguably, the most sinister character in Breaking Bad, to crushing it on the big screen with movies such as this, really shows how talented and skilled of an actor he is.
@strikerecho2592 dude don't undersell Plemon's iconic role as Landry Clarke in Friday Night Lights
I really liked this movie. Especially that scene. “What kind of American are you?” what a psycho! Loved it.!
Jesse Plemons is so good at playing asshole characters lol
I find it insulting that people call him Fat Damon. In my opinion Plemons is a better actor
It’s not just that, he plays horrific and pure monsters who have a really quiet and casual demeanor about them. It’s unnerving and unsettling on another level.

Or intentionally divisive to get people angry to vote.

I mean, the sponsor of this video got pretty opportune timing too.
One thing that hit me hard about this movie was the sound design. I’ve never heard gunfire in a movie sound like it’s supposed to until this movie. Every shot has reverb and perfect echo for its environment. The impact of the rounds holds energy throughout. It took me to a place in my head that I haven’t seen since I was in the military.
Watch a movie called Heat, amazing sound design
@@Stev550 seen it more times than I could count. Heat is a fantastic movie.
For real. You felt the shots and the action set pieces did such a good job of making you feel like you were there. You felt the danger of the weapons firing. IMAX also hit different I think.
Is that a…good.. thing…??
@@L4-295 for me it is. Poor sound design for gunfire can really take you out of scenes or even whole movies if you know that sound in your core. This movie really got it right and it’s worth seeing because of it.

I do really like the editing. It reads a lot like memories. Certain dramatic images stand out, and things burn into your mind, but then they move on. Almost like how you wouldn't remember getting from a to b, but you sure as shit remember what happened at a and you'll never forget what happened at b.
The beautiful thing about thriller movies is the sense of dread of the unknown. Films like Sicario and Sicario: Day of the Soldado do an excellent job at building up the tension and keeping the audience guessing with anxiety for what comes next. I’ve only watched one of Alex Garland’s films, annihilation, and I loved it! I can’t wait to watch Civil War, and I hope it does give me the suspense Sicario did.

Either be willing to polorize a lot of people or DON'T MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT A SECOND AMERICAN CIVIL WAR!
This movie is definite propaganda created to sow the seeds of US deconstruction however it'll take a greater economic event before this could even be a possibility. I think they will allow Trump to become president once again because they need a fall guy when they collapse the economy. The ponzi economy is a house of cards on the verge of collapse already and they are just waiting on the right time.
Granted I haven’t seen the movie yet, but the impression I get is that the lack of political alignment was deliberate. So that people could see an imagined future where this is a possibility, and how horrifying it would actually be.
The overall message being: don’t go down this road. Stop with the endless division or you’re probably all going to die needlessly
@@NoName......the movie purposefully isn't political because that's not what the director wanted to discuss
Watch the movie. It doesn't "take a side," and was clearly made to show ALL sides of the political divide that this would be very bad for everybody.

I'm not even American and even I raised an eyebrow calling bs on Texas and California teaming up. 😂
California has a huge republican population in North California, the big cities are where all the democrats live.
Spoiler. They don’t. They are independent republics who don’t factor into the central conflict in this movie. It’s between the OG USA, the northwest states, and the southeast states. But most of the time you don’t really get a sense of who is on which side.
The writer through in Texas to throw us off the scent of the real hero of the story California smh
This shows how brain screwed we are.
Both states are always at opposition with the government
Both have large immigrant populations
Both have large economies
Both have growing populations in the opposite party in power
The list goes on and on
Cable news has really just done nothing but divide people in to teams for the sake of it and their own profits.
I live in Texas and I thought it was unrealistic. In reality Texas would ride solo or team up with crazy Florida. Makes more sense.
Gotta respect the "John Locke"impression, that was a deep cut!! 👏👏👏
He nailed it
You mentioning the shock of the image is what makes this movie so amazing to me.
The power of journalistic photography even in film where sounds, explosions and vfx are trumped by the black and white photos edited in.
The neutrality whether it’s for the world or against the world and if all that spectacle capturing is actually helping anyone.
The fighting scenes not being thrilling but more frightening and the grayness of it all is just so great. Yeah the apoliticism can be described as “cowardly” but fuck trying to teach something to people when they probably don’t want to hear it. Fuck your sides, that’s literally why it’s following the journalists.
War photography has played a vital role in documenting history and shining light on extremely uncomfortable truths, but I can't help think that in a country so divided by separate realities that its at war with itself, combined with the ability to convincingly fake pictures and videos, not enough people would care about these photos to justify the extreme risk. People already stubbornly cling to their realities, avoiding and dismissing anything that challenges their beliefs.. Now add in technology that makes it even easier to doubt anything you don't want to believe? People just wouldn't pay attention.
You can get your videos out 2 weeks later than most, i’m still gonna base my choices on your reviews. TY king
HBO made a movie in 1997 called "The Second Civil War" which was told by news reporters. James Earl Jones mostly, with Denis Leary and a lot of other actors/actresses. This movie just added some more fights. But it's the same movie HBO made in 97.

This reviews ending is epic! lol
The ending seemed fine to me. About like how most wars end (or stop for a while until they start up again). Great review as always. Agreed with everything else.
The ending ruined what could have been a great movie. The last 5 minutes were really anticlimactic. They just shoot the president and cut to some corny music and The End. I wish they would have at least shown them mourn Lee's death. Or at least give the President a chance to make one last dramatic speech, and show the soldiers conflicted about whether they really wanted to shoot the President. Maybe show some of them break down in tears when they realize that America, as they know it, is over.
@@nerychristian But that's the whole point most politicians don't have one last epic speech in them, their speeches get written by underpaid interns and they themselves are pathetic and never live up to the expectations placed on them.
@@nerychristiannah I think the attitude they had was already telling that they had no regrets, they hated having to fight their own people and they're glad the guy who caused it all is dead

I felt it did a fantastic job of showing the real nature of war. Most movies have clear good and bad guys or at the very minimum giving you an idea of who is definitely a good guy. In this there wasnt that at all with it being exemplified in the sniper scene showing how messy and confusing war really is, especially where there are no clear battle lines and how quickly and easily atrocities can happen.

Hmm, completely disagree on almost all counts: Ending was perfect just like the rest of the "no ending" scenes. Its just a series of arbitrary engagements with arbitrary outcomes leading to the next...kinda like real life (or The Walking Dead).
People hate it 'cause it lacks catharsis for the most part (again, like real life...or TWD). In truth, Lee's death and Jessie's nosedive into the Joel-like adrenaline-junkie emotionally stunted life is the cathartic payoff. And IMO fully delivered (also the name choice of Joel had to be deliberately invoked).

I...agree with everything you said except for the ending. I feel like it was a pretty natural conclussion and I don't know what else they could add. Maybe a slightly longer interaction with the president?
I like that they didn't treat him special or anything actually, not even like a villain with some grit. Shows that they're people as well and don't have any power or voice unless we allow them to, with the abrupt ending and how they act being like "yeah we don't like you for killing Americans and whatnot, we can replace you"
It's like what Sammy said in the movie, all dictators turn out to be disappointingly weak at the end - Gaddafi, Ceausescu, so why should this dictator president (third term, bombing citizens, disbanded the FBI) show any more courage or strength? He was just as weak as the rest
@@DizzyBusywhile the ending was abrupt, it kinda made sense to me. The movie is from the perspective of the journalists. They get the quote, and they get the photo. The presidents dead, and the war is over, there’s not much more to report.
@@parkermorgan6890 This movie is so open to interpretation. Because right after the president was executed (extrajudicially and as a prisoner of war, so it was a war crime), the picture of the army posing with the dead body was at first over exposed, as if bathed in light, and then the shades got more and more saturated and the photo started to look bleak. I don't think it was a happy ending. None of the journalists would retire after this. There will be more violence to follow.
@@DizzyBusy for sure. The reason why the photo is changing like that is because it’s supposed to be film developing, since the girl who took the photo uses film instead of digital.

Just got back from seeing this. What an experience. A must see for sure
I havent seen it yet, but id think an abrupt ending that doesnt give closure or wrap things up in a neat little bow is perfect for this type of film. In an actual civil war scenario, there wont be a neat little bow of an ending. Theres no "you know guys, ive learned something today" speech where everyone comes together and breaks bread while singing kumbaya. More than likely at the end of the film, nothings changed, and the war will just keep chugging along.
The current neo-Marxists want a revolution so they can subjugate American citizens. Thus, this film -- where commie pinkos navigate through militia, the Boogaloo Bois, etc. in order to get to D.C. and execute Trump (the 3rd term president), in order to save America. You'd almost think this movie was released in an election year.
