Insight into my Sinhalese genes. Most believe we have a pure gene pool. But is it pure, given that the island nation in the Indian Ocean has undergone various invasions from many countries throughout its long and proud history.
I have not seen many videos of Sri Lankans doing DNA tests. Very interesting. Wanted to see what Sinhala DNA tests typically look like! Nice video!

I read translation of your DNA. Srilankan and South indian trade with Eyptian as record 500bc to 1600 bc through the sea until european took over. According Mahavasa (accourding useful chat srilanka histary-you tube video). Sinhalse king often took wife from southern indian epecially tamil Pandya kingdom. For example your father in Sinhalese king and your mother tamil is princess/queen. Your are mixed. Your tamil mother bring you out world. She breast feed you. She raised you at least age 5. Your siblings who are they? who do they marry to? and also when the king marry a princess she bring her servents. Who were the marrying too? Solider hiring from the south india do they go back? Possible eyptian DNA through trading. We also took them slave and also trade slave. Possibley Captic/epyitan has our DNA through slave trading
South Indian_Sri Lankan??? what does that tell you , we are all much more closer. If all Sri Lankans (Tamil , Sinhalese , Burger and Muslim ) do a genetic test it would break some barriers down. Mind you all Sri Lankans are united by Seeni Sambal!! Thanks for sharing this , you a 100% human being!!!!
Didn't the Sinhalese originate in Northern India in the Bengal region? The ancient city of Sinhapura was located there, and Sinhalese is an Indo-Aryan, not Dravidian language
@@gatheringleaves Bengal is not north india anyways i think sri lankans, tamils, keralites are much practically the same, bengalis have some east/se asian mix

No bullsh*t analysis points on Sinhalese and Sri Lankan genetics. 12 years experience in population genetics research analysis and some experience when it comes to caste groups.
Only Bathgama, Deva (Wahumpura) and Govigama (especially central region ones and few coastal ones) are GENUINE Sinhalese (the paternal descendants of the builders of Ruwanweli-Saaya and Sigiriya and of kings like Pandukhabaya, Dutugemunu, Vijayabahu, Valagambha). The others groups (Durava, Salagama and Karava) are South Indian Tamil migrants post 13th Century and are just Sinhalese speakers with Tamil genes. That is why the Salagama, Durava and Karava are more prevalent in coastal areas (due to later arrival) and even have more Portuguese names and Catholic adherents as well because they were exposed more to Portuguese and other Europeans (due to proximity to the Sea). Many of them were also brought as mercenaries from South India by Portuguese to fight Sinhalese. I, personally, am a Sinhalese who is NOT from either Bathgama, Deva or Central Govigama so you cannot call me BIASED when stating these facts. I even have a Portuguese last name which is not found (or quite rare) among Bathgama, Central Govi or Deva. I also have relations from coastal regions.
Original Sinhalese have more West-Bengali genes (Vanga became Bengal later by name) and some Veddah type Australoid genes and the present day Sinhalese have 72% Bengali genes. So Mahavansha was telling the truth all this time after all. The native aboriginal Yakka genes are highest among the VEDDAH people as they are the physically closest people to the Balangoda man. Yakka genes are also present at a little lesser extent among the Bathgama caste. But much lower compared to the level in Veddahs. Some genetic tests say that Sinhalese and Sri Lankan Tamils are similar, but that is by mt-DNA which is comparatively more similar all across South Asia. There are genetically similar Afghans to Tamils if only mt-DNA is considered. y-DNA and Autosomal admixture is the defining measure for South Asia. Also due to assimilation of Tamils and South Indians like Durava, Karava and Salagama there will be an influx of South Indian genes in to Sinhalese via these 3 groups further complicating the picture. Also there are very old Sinhala origin Tamils among Sri Lankan Tamils like Koviar (derived from Govia) who further complicate the picture.

But it is TRUE.

Very interesting video
First I must thank Anurudha for his honest and open comments on his results. To me one of the most interesting information that I can get from this test comes from the list of the DNA relatives. I have about 300 relatives out of which 3 are Tamil, 1 Muslim, 3 are Swedish, and the rest are Sinhala. All 3 Swedes are actually Sinhala children adopted by the Swedish families in the 1970s. I was able to contact some of my relatives, whom I had no knowledge, from all over the world. This is very interesting.
What is your caste? There are sinhalised Keralites who were broughht to sri lanka during the time the portugese. Durawa caste are Tamils who migrated in the 1300s. Salagama caste are cinnamon peelers from Kerala during colonial times etc. The caste and surname is the easiest way to tell. If you are ethnically keralite or tamil who was sinhalised over the following centuries this is a meaninglelss video.

It is very funny that some of my Sri Lankan friends whose skin colour is even darker than Charcoal claiming that they have 100% North Indian ancestry. I asked them to do a DNA test but they refuse saying that all DNA tests are wrong !!! They know that they are wrong and therefore afraid to take the test and know the truth.
Only the coastal Sinhalese mainly from the western province are closer to South Indian genetically because they are from assimilated South Indian caste background. If you go to the interior provinces of Sri Lanka - UP COUNTRY, you will find that the people from those regions are very FAIR !
What to fear for being tamil

Just because your language is closer to North Indians doesn't mean the people as well. Draupadi Murmu is an Odia speaker (Indoaryan language), but she is the most native Indian.

Hey may I know what will be the results of a Maldivian as there is no breakdown for Maldives. Will they fall under Sri Lankan or Something like Broadly South Asian
Maldivians are mixed like a melting pot. Their dna results will be interesting especially if your parents are from different zones..like one from north or one from south. I think Maldivians will have around 60% dravidian and might have 3-5% subsaharan african and 3-10% south east asian. West Asian is also possible but it varies from one person to another. I also never saw a result of Maldivian
@@myyoutubechannel9924 yeah but there is no division as Dravidian what will be the geographical region
@@GG-xe9hf probably south indian. Im also very curious about maldivian dna. I read articles about maldives dna and it says some ppl have native american ancestry and south east asian ancestry. It proves from a test taken to detect the thalaseemia variant. So, in my opinion the gedmatch result of a maldivian is going to be 60% - 75% indigenous south asian 15% - 30% ANI or baloch. 2% to 10% south east asian. So maldivians are roughly 70% native south asian.
Trying to interpret the "Indian hunter-gatherer" ancestry as "Tamil" is the greatest mistake you have made. Actually, all south Asians have 3 major ancestries.
1. Hunter-gatherers that lived for at least 50000 years.
2. Middle Eastern farmers (Dravidians)
3. Central Asian pastoralists (Aryans)

@@yohanifanaustralia8950 ok Thank you
I find it quite funny how a lot, if not most, of the comments here are from Indians even though it's about a Sri Lankan guy lmao
As someone with a background in genetics, the first thing I would say is that modern science has debunked the idea that "race" has a genetic basis. In simple terms, there is no "race gene" or "genes" that can identify two individuals as belonging to different races.
"Race" and "Ethnicity" are considered social constructs that humans have created and often use to group the people around us, and we do this mainly by looking at physical features: hair colour, skin colour, eye shape etc.
As a species, human share 99.9% of our genes. Our physical features are controlled by a very very small number of genes, even though they make a big impact in terms of giving people different physical features. And we see this all around us: if we see someone with typically Asian features, we would categorize the individual as from the Asian race. We also group people into races based on the geographical region of origin. Here, we also need to understand what alleles are - alleles are like the different flavors of a gene: eg: for the hair colour gene, some of the alleles are black hair, brown hair, blond hair etc.
If separate racial or ethnic groups existed, we would expect to find certain genes that are unique to each racial and ethnic population and are NOT present in others, however this is not the case. According to a 2002 Stanford study, only 7.4% of over 4000 alleles were specific to one geographical region, which is a very small number. Thus, there is no evidence that the groups we commonly call “races” have distinct genes that are found only within that race. In fact, studies show that there is a lot of genetic variation within "races".
So ultimately, the point is that there is a lot of variation between these so called racial groups. In fact, it's possible for a person of European descent to be more genetically similar to an Asian person than they are to another European person!
This means that it is normal for anyone in the world to have alleles which may be more commonly seen in other racial populations, like in this video where the individual shows that they have 0.2% trace DNA which is Coptic Egyptian among other trace DNA.
To quote from an article by Harvard university: "Research indicates that the concept of “five races” does, to an extent, describe the way human populations are distributed among the continents-but the lines between races are much more blurred than ancestry testing companies would have us believe"
I hope this explanation helps to clarify some ideas behind genetics and race and gives an idea of the complexity of genetics. The fact is, there is no such thing as a "pure gene pool" for any race, there is a lot of variation in genes and also, simply looking at a tiny number of genes that control our physical features does not automatically mean that two people who look similar are also similar to each other genetically/racially.
Thanks for reading!

Siv hela or ravana propagandas are are fabricated in 1980s by pseudo nationalists , even hela hawula is directly responsible these claims have no historical basis.

I have seen some other Sinhalese whose ancestry is from odisha, west bengal. Yours is different you also have east asian. Many Tamils warriors fought in east asia, as they ruled some east asian countries. You must have then come to Sri lanka from south India as a mercenary or through marriage.. its just a guess
@harita Few Malay people used to live in Sri Lanka. I think one of them might have got mixed up with an ancestor of mine about 200 years ago. That is why it is only 1% of the total. The other Sinhalese person you are referring to is someone that I know, I also had those genes, but after the new 23&Me update, they have removed it. The same thing has happened to that person's report as well.

Southern Indian DNA and Sri Lankan DNA well fixed. We went into ethnical civil war between Tamil and Sinhalese. As history Sinhalese kings often took wife from southern India. Princess of Southern Indian marry Sinhalese kings. It was very normal practice happened among kings of Sri Lanka. When we study family tree we ignore the female said. If mother of Sinhalese king is southern Tamil woman. You will see it on your DNA. Other fact princess did not come alone as bride. They came with few servants. Those servants marry local women/man. Soldiers (Allies) hired sometime did not return. Because other king own battle. They also marry local. Your Coptic/Egyptian DNA, we trade with Egyptian as record history 500 bc-1600AD using ship. We buy and sell slave man and woman. We also had traders visiting us from Coptic region. Marriage bring two different people together. And bring a lot of kids, not just one kids as some history book. Your DNA shows little history. Funny part is 98.5% southern Indian DNA is even too much for Indian who living in south India. Thank you for sharing your info.
We have genes from Indonesia jawa Sumatra
I am srilankan tamil. My result 100 percent south asian.i could not find break in like you from my heritage
Did you get it done from 23 & Me or another company ? As far as I know only 23 & Me gives a breakdown of the south Asian region?
I will go through it 23&me
The ancestry breakdown for south Asians were expanded quite recently. End of 2019 if I’m not mistaken. The delay was apparently due to the lack of genetic studies done in our region. So the dna tests done earlier wouldn’t have had this much of a detailed report 😬.
Mine also came as 100% south asian at first. But later, as their database got more diverse, they kept updating my genetic profile with additional ancestry...
It is not possible. All humans initially had same ancestory from Africa.

Sinhalese are Tamils they are not North Indians. Their language has origins from Bengal/Orissa but the people were Tamils
Then why sri lankan tamils north indian genetics..? Why they didn't become sinhalese..? I can't believe u guys just make theories only according to this result.. there are 17 million + sinhalese in the world.. only coastal sinhalese have south indian dna because of the recent migration which happened like 150 years ago.. and that is the reason why sinahalese tend to have similar dna s with indian tamils than lankan tamils.. cuz lankan tamila are similar to sinahlese than indian tamils..
😂 bro original sinahlese gens are aryans but ur dravidians attack around the sri lanka so that's reason some sinhalese have south gens !.

So Singalese are basically Madrasis. It's what I've been saying to Sri Lankans who think they're Aryans from Northern India but I tell them hell no, they're Madrasis, they don't look anything like us. In the north, we are tall, fair and have Persian features. Not black, round-faced, wavy-haired and narrow shouldered.
Sinhalese hate being told they are closer to South Indians. But they look same to South Indians and geographically closer to South. Even their language sounds South Indian. They are self hating and can’t accept they are dark and Dravidian

If you claim that you're not, then why don't you preach your folks and monks to behave like one. I like the way Sangakara spoke about racism when there was similar problem against Muslim people, I always had a good opinion about Buddhist monks before, but after knowing about srilankan monks and about their political affiliations and the cause of the ethnic conflict then, I hate them... for God's sake preach the majority people to treat every one alike, if they didn't agree then give them a DNA kit

Funny thing indian tamils are gentically closer to srilankans than indian tamils
Anagarika Dhammapala converted Sinhalese to Buddhism. Only 10% of Govigamas were Buddhists
Funny thing is that Sri Lankan Tamils are more closer to Sinhalese and not to South Indian Tamils.
