"Bottle Rocket" and "Rushmore" are two of my favorite films of all time. It saddens me that "Bottle Rocket" didn't do so well, but in a way, I do like the idea that I can take such pleasure in something that to most is inaccessible.
"She's my Rushmore Max" ... "I know, she was mine too" .... I think a lot of us have a Rushmore. As we get older, they fade. But they never go away. I love this movie.
+gokinsmen I kinda would like to see that too. They were so organic & transparent, and the dialogue was so natural that you just get lost in them and don't realize it, and that's pretty great.
I agree but that is all on Owen's part. You can hear in Wes' commentary on tRT that Owen was too busy/didn't put any effort in, and that was effectively when their writing partnership died, though he clearly still wanted to work with him, he wanted to I guess stop writing entirely. tDL was beautiful though no one's seen it...Owen's most sensitive role in a Wes Anderson film. I expect Owen will come back to it when he's older and maybe retired from acting, it was his first love after all.
People saying bottle rocket and Rushmore are his best films have either lost their fucking minds, and/or have some serious nostalgia goggles on. Not even close.
You know, and I'm not sure that it public knowledge, but Wes and his crew are working on Max (Rushmore II). With any luck it will be ready by Christmas. I've heard that Max has a dream sitting in the chapel which includes him in bed with Marilyn Monroe. So, the movie sounds like it's going to be great. They say that Adrian Barbeau will be playing the 96 year old Marilyn.
2nd best i agree. owen wilson co-wrote these 2 and the first one, bottle rocket. after that too much style over substance. so for me these 3 first are the best but rushmore is just a perfect movie, no1 on my list since 98! btw these were the times, i saw pulp fiction in 94 and made it to my no1, same with boogie nights 2 years later, and then rushmore! after that matrix and memento blew me away but not as much as the above!
I know what you mean. Personally a still love Wes Anderson and his work because of the emotion he can put into all of his characters, which can be more clear in his early films. But I think the Rushmore to moonrise kingdom films have the best soundtracks
Rushmore, a true masterpiece
Without a doubt. Wes is so cute ;)
Wes Anderson looks like one of his films characters
Kinda like Tim Burton

Me too, Bottle Rocket has had a massive influence on my films too.
Like a secret friend
It’s crazy, I live in Houston and passed the Rushmore school multiple times not knowing that a whole masterpiece was shot there..
to me is the other way around - i passed through that high school for a long time and yrs later it was used for a film! :)

thats deep man
I will never get over the fact Wes was born in my City and went to the high School right across from mine!
Where you in high school at the same as him?
no - i learned yrs later ( i believe during the time of this movie) that he had gone to that high school!
Owen Wilson is a great writer and I think grounded stories with dynamic characters really elevated Wes’ early films.
His best movie bar none and on of the best in history.
Still his best film. He needs to go back to a more grounded aesthetic like this one. And reunite with Owen Wilson as his writing partner.
U 2?
Yes, Bottle Rocket and Rushmore are my favourites.

I completely agree.

My favorite movie of all time.

Bottle Rocket was okay; Rushmore is a masterpiece... one of my 10 favorite movies. I wish I could see it for the first time again.

i am so looking forward to it. i heard that they couldn't get bill murray so his part will be played by owen wilson's dog.

Not one class on milling.

No way! His movies are gold.
I see where you’re coming from but I disagree completely 😂
God smiled on the production of this film. The subsequent Wes films have all been such pretentious twee.
Define the word "pretentious" without looking it up
