    While we are on the subject of things to do with the British Army, don't forget to support Bill's raffle in aid of Help for Heroes. Lots of bushcraft related prizes on offer.

      If it was any bigger you could park the car in it too. Not your car, I have seen your car, you would probably have to take the kitchen sink out first 😂.

    Holy bag Batman! I like how the removable side pockets can add so much more space as well as becoming nifty tool holders. That was so cool of you to stop your progress and help your friend get his fire going. Not so much an interruption but a detour. Nice one!

      One of the main reasons for going there was Jenya wanted to learn some bushcraft so I was teaching him bowdrill while filming.
      Interruptions can be interesting in a video. I got in the way of a reindeer driven sleigh on one video, that was the best one. Cars and snowmobiles in the background are annoying though.
      Hope you are well mate.

      @@KuukkeliBushcraft oh man, isn't that a bummer when you get the traffic noise. I'm doing alright, avoiding this damn virus and such. I've actually got a specialist ready to try and get my back and neck fixed up once we can start seeing docs in person and going to hospitals openly again so that's really good.

    Good vid. The rucksack doesn't have to be filled completely if you need to bug out. The extra space can be used for stuff you can find by scavenging along the way to your location.

    Great price mate! That bag is a beast and looks really well made no doubt!! Ahhh the campfire smoke that will follow you around non stop no matter where you walk LOL. Nice score. The olive drab ones were the first to be issued from around '89 to '91.They were designed by Berghaus (based on their cyclops Crusader ), who made the first examples until the MOD demanded that they lower their production costs. Berghaus refused & so the production was tendered out to the lowest bidder by the MOD.
    I love the things but to look at & feel, not to carry.😁

      Thanks for the information, I could have done with that before I made the video😂.
      I was very happy when I bought it so cheap and then found out it actually wasn't very broken at all.
      I have more comfortable rucksacks for longer hikes. I don't think I could carry that thing very far (must be a very hard work with a rifle +ammo too).

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft

      My mistake, it's 100 litres. I don't know where I got 90 from. Maybe the main compartment is 90 not including the pockets in the lid and the small one on the back. Most likely I just made a silly mistake. Maths was never really my strong point but didn't think I was that bad at it.
      Thanks for pointing out the mistake John.

    Long back will be better for you if you aren't wearing webbing. A lot of people say they cant use the plce bergens because they don't have a "hip belt" as such, but I find them perfect carrying 50lb across 20 miles with no webbing on. Comfier than my berghaus vulcan for me.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  4 роки тому +1

      I would have bought the long back if I had the choice. But they didn't say on ebay which one it was, just that it was 13 quid and needed some repairing. Was so happy when I saw how little repairing (when I eventually found it).
      Thanks for watching mate, and for taking the time to leave a comment.

      @@KuukkeliBushcraft have a quick look at the "Helikon Foxtrot MK2 belt rig". It is basically like a civi webbing type of pouch that has a harness/shoulder and belt set up. It will take the weight of the bergen if you set it up correctly mate.

      @@mikeyf1904 That looks like an awesome bit of kit mate, lots of good features, the water bottle pouches, the ability to attach a bedroll, carry handle ect. Pretty reasonable price too I will have a think about that. I recently bought a nearly complete set of 58 pattern webbing. That should work good too right?

      @@KuukkeliBushcraft oh yeah if you got webbing that's the best thing you can get. 58 pattern webbing is a good piece of kit. I just thought you might want a civilian type of webbing but if you don't mind wearing the 58 pattern then that's the best thing for the job. Some people give strange looks at people wearing military webbing in civi settings but who cares what other people think. Use what you like and what does the job best 👍

    I like this because it rides a bit high. I also carry a rather large fanny pack when I get out for my fishing supplies, water bottles, and stuff I need to get at during the day, or stuff I may need to get at quickly such as a knife, whistle, bear spray, or in a dire emergency, a hand gun. I go out in bear country alot. So occasionally ya get that nosey bear that needs a really good scare to know its place. I also dangle a bear bell from my belt so bears and moose know I'm there and we don't have an unpleasant surprise. That can be nerve racking to say the liest. Been there a few times. But I also remember I'm in their backyard, and they are just defending their land....

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  4 роки тому +1

      To be honest I would like to try the long backed version before saying for sure which I prefer. But most of us do carry things on our belts.
      I am glad to say the few bears that we do get in Finland are extremely timid and never a problem. Much more problematic where you are.
      Great to hear from you again buddy. Hope you are well.

      Doing great. We've had record snowfall in the mountains this year, so may be a bit before I can get up there, but it's all the more tie to get a few things ready here. Found some interesting mora kniv knives. One is completely serated, the other is a very small, 2.5 inch blade. I think I'll be giving them a try.
      The serrated knife I'll be trying as a kitchen, eating knife. We call them steak knives here. As we live in a van, I've been looking for a couple good quality steak knives that have sheaths. So they should be perfect. I already use two every day for food prep. Really for my purposes ya really cant beat a quality knife for daily use, even in the kitchen.
      I saw a great tip... Wrap a bit of duck tape around your mora shieth, then take a piece of plastic, wrap in a holder for your ferrous rod, then wrap the shiieth in a few feet of para cord. I put a few decorative beads on the tag end of the para cord. I actually used the fire cord. It has fire starter and a strand of ten pound fishing line inside as well. Plus I foil wrapped a couple fish hooks and tiny weights under the cord too.
      Every little bit helps

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  4 роки тому +1

      @@clarklindquist8137 I did something like that with the tape and a ferro rod to a Hultasfors heavy duty. Did a couple of other bits and pieces to the sheath, attached a whistle. No paracord though or fishing hooks.I should find where I put that knife, I like Hultasfors nearly as much as Mora.
      It must be very cold living in a van in the winter.
      A lot of snow this winter in Hetta in Finland too. I will be heading up there next week probably.

      It is all in your mind really. Bit we have a 2000 btu diesel truck heater that only uses .05L of fuel an hour. The ten L tank lasts just over a week on low setting, but high we get about 36 hours run time. We have 300 watts of solar so that runs most of what we need,
      Summer is actually harder because its easier to warm up than cool off.
      We are looking into an evaporative cooler for summer. And a low amp draw ac like those used in a small construction trailer. I love the aspect of being close to nature and living with less. Less is more in so many ways

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  4 роки тому +1

      @@clarklindquist8137 wow that sounds like some setup you have there. Definitely not nice being too hot, I wouldn't have expected it to be so much of a problem in a van though. Then again I have never lived in one.
      I definitely have too much stuff spread around all over the place. I don't really have a fixed address so a van might actually be a good option for me.
      Really great to hear from you and to learn a bit more about your lifestyle. The van and the bears and everything.
