A. Eye protection B. Never completely reverse the engine when you're scraping oil pan gaskets or the cleaning process. Always leave it at an angle .. This is so that debris from your scraping doesn't go directly into the engine. If the engine is at an angle or sideways, the debris fall to the ground.

I know this wasn't a rebuild but when you do, spin it up without plugs or injectors till the oil displaces the assembly lube and you have pressure then start it.
Listen… I love these videos because I know how much fun it is to complete the job, but I never want to work on repairs and heavy maintenance again in my life. Kudos on your rebuild! Most I could do would be an oil pan gasket and walnut blasting my valves in my MS3.
Ive found that the larger the project, the greater feeling of reward when it works on the first try. Ive stripped down a backpack blower that hadnt run in a year and it fired right up and it felt great. I cant image the feeling of removing a car engine, stripping it, reinstalling it and having it fire up right off the bat. :)
So normally this would be true but on the NA miatas the subframe is in the way of the oil pan. Gotta pull the engine. Fortunately the engine's super small and easy to remove/work on.
I dont know the name of the parts because I've only ever taken a small engine class. However, in the start of the video there are two green parts on the front of the engine that bend the belt around them. Our teacher was telling us that the new Maseratis have plastic ones that break off very early in the life span of the engine. Buyer beware.

Oh god I miss my old MX5 (UK spec Mk1 Miata/Eunos roadster). It was an absolutely brilliant toy. I did a lot of tweaks to that car, but still think the BEST "mod" I ever did was taking it to get a full 3d suspension geometry check done on it. The specialist (A place here in the UK called "PowerStation") asked me how I WANTED it to handle, I told them I like the front to have as much grip as possible, but the back to let go gradually at the limit to tell me I was close to trouble, and that was EXACTLE what I got. The handling went from "Well, I guess it's OK" to "More grip than I felt comfortable using on the road". :D
I would love to have the tools, the time and the freedom to do this to my vehicles. I very much know that those tools that you have are worth in the hundred of thousands you doing great 👍 keep it up and bless.
i mean you have timing marks, line everything up and spin the motor over 2 times and verify the marks still line up, if you messed up you wont be able to turn the motor becuase the valves will kiss the pistons, my motor unfortunatley does not have any timing marks or keyways for the cam gears which makes it very difficult, i had to do mine 3 times with different cam blocks before getting it right
Speaking of being relieved when it started.... Almost 20 years ago I girl I dated had her timing belt fail at a light. It didn't break, it wiped off teeth and bent half the valves. After machine work and a complete top end replacement I was finalizing the timing belt and making sure it was timed properly. I had her 'tap the key' and the damn engine came to life like it had been shut off for a moment. That was a shocking surprise. It was also a Daewoo Lanos so it was a miracle.
Nice work, but I am a bit surprised you didn't do a nice cleaning on the engine and transmission since you had them out. Still, great job. Must be great to have a nice shop you can use.

@lldrifts nice build, a handy thing i learnt for putting motor and gearbox in. Leave front wheels on ground and raise rear of car upwards with your 2 post arms. It is night and day easier.
If your ever worried about having the timing belt or chain right just spin the crank over twice after installing and the timing marks should line up after rotating, if it binds or they dont line up you are off
I just did all that too my truck , except i rebuilt the automatic transmission and transfer case ..with a long list of other parts it needed for awhile , and i keep remembering other problems i aint got too on it , so more parts .😂
Looks beautiful. Looks like you did a great job and you probably did this unconsciously in the beginning you called it an engine about halfway through pulling the oil pan. You called it a motor it’s not a motor it’s an engine.
I'd have some spare parts left, if it starts it starts.
Weight reduction and being more efficient then the engineers
