if i have the story right, the film went under 2 edits that were rejected until norton stepped in and made the 3rd edit which was accepted. tons of footage of deleted scenes were never scene. some of these popped up in the 90s online from a vhs tape. rumor has it norton deleted masters of the deleted scenes while faye had stolen them and kept them and wanted to release them some day in a documentary (or they were simply taken from him from lionsgate and norton after he couldnt finish a edit). i guess it was also taking the original guy close to a year to edit which was way to long for lionsgate. you can also find the trailer for the movie that has more deleted scenes. i left the tag on the video for original posters credit i dont monetize any of my channels. any advertisements you see are forced by youtube. i suggest using ABP extension to block adds. It was really nice of Lamont to help Derek after discovering him in the shower like that, also how he carried him like a rag roll out of there 😆 never find a friend like that in there
I can see why the footage wasn't used. The pacing in the original is fine. I bet some of those deleted scenes ran longer and would've dragged the narrative.
@@Crazy__CanuckNorton editing the film is what made the director/writer disown the film - hence why Tony Kaye isn't credited as such, but rather Humpty Dumpty. Kaye removed himself from the film due to Norton cutting out around 30 minutes of the film + changing the ending, as Tony Kaye's original ending would've had Derek shave his head and become a neo-Nazi again after the murder of Danny. Thankfully Norton changed this. This ending also makes the entire film meaningless: why make a story where a dude is a neo-Nazi, no longer a neo-Nazi, then a neo-Nazi again? It's a waste of an hour. Now, traditionally, when a director disowns their film, they're labeled as "Allan Smithee in the credits, but since Kaye publicly bashed American History X, that moniker wasn't allowed - hence Humpty Dumpty.

I agree, including that scene would make his character arc have too large of a gap to cross to get to the point they ultimately reached. Their relationship is much more believable without this scene.
It was highly unrealistic. If you’re that blatantly disrespectful in prison, that would’ve been an automatic fight right there or getting stuck with a shank later on.
