One of the best films I’ve ever seen, none of these scenes should’ve been deleted especially not the one in the diner with the little kid which was really innocent & beautiful, shows just how much Derek had changed for the better & that all his hate was gone.
For me, it shows that Derek wasn't truly racist. He was only trying to convince himself that he hated blacks and latinos, because he was angry. Racist feelings don't go away that easily when they’re truly felt, not even after a traumatic experience like the one Derek had in prison.

The second scene was bad for two reasons: (1) it’s inconsistent with the thing Cameron said to Derek, about the need of growing out of the juvenile phase of attacking random people on the street, and (2) it adds some unnecessary comic relief in the form of Seth’s line about making a “musical comedy” and the silly look Cameron gave to him afterwards. I mean, it's funny, but feels out of place with the general tone of the movie. The third scene was ok, but a bit cheesy. I guess that's why they left them out.

I always thought the script/story for this movie didn't make sense, then I heard a few things about it. Ed Furlong wanted too many adjustments, and he got them. He altered it completely from the original, where the protagonist came from a really bad upbringing, in Philadelphia, not LA.

1) correctly cut, way too on the nose. 2) couple of good exchanges, especially Cam using flattery to manipulate Seth. Ultimately it’s too long and the confrontation doesn’t really make sense as, the Cam in the final cut was written as a coward who got others to do all his dirty work - him starting a public argument flies in the face of that narrative. 3) sweet scene but not needed, we already know Derek is a changed man.

1 scene was absolutely a must.
1) correctly cut, way too on the nose.
2) couple of good exchanges, especially Cam using flattery to manipulate Seth. Ultimately it’s too long and the confrontation doesn’t really make sense as, the Cam in the final cut was written as a coward who got others to do all his dirty work - him starting a public argument flies in the face of that narrative.
3) sweet scene but not needed, we already know Derek is a changed man.
