Totally agree! I was looking hard to see what Dr. Fink and Lisa Coleman were playing. I think she was playing an Oberheim OBXa and a Yamaha Electric Grand piano. Dr. Fink had an Oberheim and probably a Minimoog somewhere. Bobby Z was playing those Simmons drums triggering a Linn Drum machine.
I was at this show. Man, one of the best concerts I've seen in my life!
I would have absolutely died watching this concert live in person if I was there as an adult back in the day but I ALWAYS dreamed about seeing him live on this Tour even after Purple Rain came out when I was a little boy. So much that I thought that 1999 was a better album than Purple Rain.
You’re right 1999 was a better album and these concerts were amazing. My first time seeing him was in 1979. Purple Rain album is not in my top three Prince albums.

My first Prince show was April 8, 1983, Joe Louis Arena, Detroit. I sat in the upper bowl, 26th row. The Time and Vanity 6 opened. I was 13 years old and I remember it like it was yesterday.
Don't be mad you guys but I saw this concert I also saw him open for Rick James back in the day.
Also one more thing and I guess I'm bragging a little bit.
When he came to my home town in the 80's there was a club that was very popular in the city called The Ritz.
The DJ was a Cool ass woman by the name of Liz. Me and my girlfriend at the time Carolyn always went every weekend never missed. The best music the best dance floor and the crowds. and always dressed to the 9's.
So the time came in the city Everybody was excited cuz Prince, PRINCE !!!!! was coming to town at the Civic Arena.
Was the first at the ticket booth waiting forever to get tickets..
So remember Liz ? Well...
Liz had something cooked up where because of promos and things like that Prince was supposed to come to the club after the show. !!!😮😮 ( He would do that in certain cities just show up)
Well anyway Liz told me that Prince was coming to the Ritz and only a few people knew about it.
I looked at her I said don't be playing with me. You are not for real !?
She said look are you and Carolyn going to the concert !? I said hell yeah she said make sure that you come directly here after the show because he's going to come here. I Literally could not contain my excitement. You have to understand guys this is in the 80s Prince ruled the land.
So we went to the concert at the Civic Arena 1999 tour.
DON'T WORRY I WON'T HURT YOU I ONLY WANT YOU TO HAVE SOME FUN😂😂. That was the start..
The show was off the hook. The Civic Arena was packed to the rafters and we had the best seats I'm telling you. Back in those days you dressed up like the person you went to go see.
So I was all Princed out, YEA I ADMIT IT, makeup too hahahaha
And my girl Carolyn was dressed just like one of the nasty girls.( The lingerie dressed girls VANITY 6 dancing on stage) also the Time was there too Yes Morris Day y'all!!!.
The concert was incredible was about 2 hours but we could not wait to get back to the club. It was near my house too!!
When the show was over y'all I cannot believe how fast I drove .
Remember what I told you there was only a certain amount of people that knew that Prince was going to show up because if she would have told everybody it would have been a mad house. LITERALLY 😂
We got to the club it was always crowded. It was all themed out purple.
People just assumed it was done that way because Prince had just had the concert in the city.
( LITTLE DID THEY KNOW)
To get to the DJ booth you had to cut a left and go up the stairs. It was a huge VIP section roped off upstairs, all themed out purple as well.
And of course it was cordoned off by the purple rope .
There were about 25 people upstairs they all knew. Liz came out of the booth let us in.
We sat down and chilled for about a half an hour in anticipation.
IT SEEMED LIKE HOURS AND HOURS HAHAHA. So we're just sitting and sitting and then
In about an hour or so...
Suddenly from downstairs you heard this huge roar screams and all, we jumped up and ran over to the balcony and looked over.
Looked down and saw his bodyguard
I know y'all don't know this but back in the day Prince had a huge, I mean Big dude ... bodyguard his name was Chick.
( Chick Huntsberry RIP brother✝️)
Imagine a biker looking dude real big broad shouldered big barrel chested flowing white hair big white beard. Bushy eyebrows
Imposing looking no smile. That was Chick. Prince and the band went nowhere without him right there by their side. There were times he would literally pick Prince up and carry him no joke
Well he walked in the door first and when everyone saw him, they knew !!!!!oh my gawd. NO LIKE OHHHHH MY GAAAAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!
The whole damn band walked in the club came right up the stairs sat in the section around a huge circle setup.
No lie y'all Prince sat right beside me and the band all around Bobby z Matt Fink Lisa Wendy Dez or Brown M can't remember, everybody. Like I said before you have to understand Prince ruled the planet during those days.
No diss on Michael but Prince was in a whole different stratosphere. I mean the man played everything, to see how he directed his band on stage to come in, when not to come in the cues etc.
His leadership on stage his performance on stage that damn guitar work and his piano work
his dynamism musicianship all of that. And the way he carried himself that air of mystery like he wouldn't talk to anyone he was all low-key and chill it just made you want him even more.
Like he sat right beside me. No he didn't speak to me nothing like that but his thigh was right beside my thigh barely touching . Almost lost mind Hahahaha. My girl was to my right she was tripping man squeezing my arm whispering it's Prince it's Prince.
Damn near cut off circulation in my arm 😂😂😂

Cuz on the inside I was like a little girl squealing. I'm surprised I didn't pee on myself. Facts..!
That seems like a century ago now.
I was a Prince fan from his very first album, always told my friends about him before he became famous they're like who the hell is that.
Like I said y'all I saw him open for Rick James, he blew him off the stage by the way. I'll Never forget that .. trench coat and some stockings hahaha
But then like the old saying every true story ends in death ...
I think a part of all of us died and went dark inside when he passed.
One of those moments when you stop
you can't believe it and you struggle to catch your breath.
We've all read the stories and I've done some research and looked into it and thought to myself if only there was somebody there that could have cared for him , protected him fought for him, ( when he was struggling with this and couldn't fight for himself)
loved him to have helped him through the struggle he would still be here.
When he passed out on that plane during his piano and microphone tour that was the warning then.
Somehow he didn't have the strength or support
Somebody to stand in the gap grab him up and love him back to life
That cryptic thing that he said don't waste your prayers on me yet. Death was near... So sad and Fkdup😢
Then barely a short time after he was gone.
I cried you cried we all cried from the deepest part of us for him.
There was something magic and special and blessed somewhat visceral powerful passionate intelligent persuasive loving engaging seductive
Inspiring about what came out of him to us. We still feel it. Especially if we were there during his time.

I seen Prince during his Purple Rain Tour as a teenager!! He was a supernatural, magical, mesmerizing talent blessed by God!! Absolutely love him in a spiritual way, as a brother!! Omg!! I’m a Lyme disease survivor and been through more physical suffering than I ever thought I could possibly endure!! God blessed me with an absolutely BEAUTIFUL DREAM WITH PRINCE!! It felt soooo real omg!! I actually felt his warm, kind HUG!! He was wearing the amazing outfit when he sang Purple Rain in the amazing movie!! I journaled the dream so I will never forget every beautiful detail of Prince showing me kindness and compassion like a brother does. I sadly lost my only sibling, my amazing brother Steve 💔He was my best friend always. I pray my brother Steve is playing GUITAR WITH PRINCE!! I LOVE YOU DEAR STEVE AND DEAR PRINCE!! Missing you both with a broken heart 💔🥲

Yet another remaster where I actually HEAR BrownMark slay on the bass. IN the other case was the 1985 Syracuse concert. Up until the most recent remaster of that iconic concert, I'd NEVER heard BrownMark kick ass on bass. Not on the original VHS release, nor the first remaster (when the anniversary edition of the Purple Rain soundtrack with the DVD a few years ago) seemed to showcase what a damn good bassist BrownMark is. However, the newest remaster on Blu-Ray..holy squick. They really brought out the big guns (sonic-wise). Then, there's this video. Loved being able to see BrownMark jam, and hear him so clearly. Thank you from those of us who didn't get the 1999 remaster set this is from.
I noticed the same thing in the Syracuse remaster. I was like “Mark is killing that bass” I wonder why they kind of mixed him out of the original release.
What a bargain price to pay to watch him perform Live. I was fortunate enough to see him play at the Summit on His LoveSexy Tour. A great time with a high school friend .

I was at the show the night before this one. He did not preform, he came out and talk to us. I can prove it because I did not think it was him because he looked like a little white girl until he spoke. I was 15 years old then I was like. Oh yea, it's him!!! I have already posted this.

I saw this concert in Dayton Ohio. I have to say The Time stole the show. Saw Prince on the Purple Rain and LoveSexy tours. So good. I could have seen him on the Controversy tour,that was Zapp featuring Roger, Prince, and the headliner was Rick James. I still regret not seeing that show.

This is a 23 year old kid commanding the stage like few can.
I give every song a 10. Back in those days, just about all of his songs were still in falsetto. He had just stopped recording all of his songs in falsetto with 1999, and actually he got bigger with the white people because he sounded more Rock!!! Yes I said it!!! That's what he always was trying to do, was crossOver. That's what it was called back then. but I loved his falsetto voice and he did too!!! It was something about PRINCE'S falsetto unlike other guys falsetto. They say, all men have a falsetto singing voice. But, all the other singer who sing falsetto, still sounds like a man singing. PRINCE SOUNDED LIKE A WOMAN SINGING AND HE WOULD TRICK YOU!!! WHEN I FIRST HEARD, "I WANNA BE YOUR LOVER " OVER THE RADIO AND THE JUNK BOX AT 12 YEARS OLD. I WAS SAYING, "I LIKE THAT SONG , THAT GIRL IS SINGING". I LIKE THAT GIRL'S SONG". SHE IS GOING TO BE ON AMERICAN BANDSTAND. THEN I SAW HIM, DICK CLARK SHOWED HIS ALBUM COVER! PRINCE!!! THEN I HEARD HIM!!! IT'S HIM!!! DAMN, HE IS THE COOLEST OF THE COOL!! I HAD BEEN SEEING HIM IN THE RIGHTON MAGAZINE, BUT THAT WAS IT! TO TELL THE TRUTH, I DIDN'T LIKE HIM, UNTIL I SAW HIM PERFORM ON AMERICAN BANDSTAND PLAYING HIS GUITAR LIKE THE ROCK N ROLLERS!!! IN HIS FALSETTO VOICE!!! 40:09-40:21 Thx 4 postin.I Knew there was"somthin" 2 learn here,but I didn't kno what until this segment.The 1999 Album was very influential on my development and I was able to trace it to how Prince programmed his Hi-Hats.I have the exact-same sound on," Lil Miss Payback"(Ev9 Topic)and " Brew Doo Lady".
My all time favorite concert! We were all wondering how if rver, he could kick AZZ after what "Time" and Vanity did!
Same here. I caught this tour in Pine Bluff, Arkansas a few weeks before this was filmed…and my first thought after the time finished their set was “Damn…Prince f’d up letting THESE dudes open for him”. The Time is not a band you wanna follow…but Prince came out and showed us why he was the headliner.
I almost didn’t get to go to this show…I was in high school and had to beg my father for money to go, and he was reluctant because only a day or two before, I saw the S.O.S. Band opening for Zapp and Roger in Little Rock.
This goes down as the 2nd funkiest week of my 58 years on this planet

I saw the 1999 triple threat tour in 82 Louisville Kentucky. Definitely one of the hottest shows of all the Prince tours I've seen hands down.

In addition to my previous post regarding PRINCE CALLED ME UP ON STAGE. ANOTHER REASON I DID NOT GO RIGHT AWAY IS BECAUSE I WAS SURROUNDED BY YOUNG BEAUTIFUL WHITE GIRLS!!! THAT SHOWS HOW THE TIMES WERE BACK IN DALLAS TX 1997. IT APPEARS THOSE SEATS WERE MOSTLY FOR WHITE PEOPLE, BUT BECAUSE THE WAY I LOOKED WITH LONG BEAUTIFUL HAIR, LOOKING LIKE A MILLION BUCKS, I GOT GREAT SEAT FROM THE WHITE GIRL WHO SOLD ME THE TICKET A FEW WEEKS BEFORE THAT. SHE HAD TOLD ME THAT SHE GAVE ME A GREAT SEAT!!! I SAID OK LOL. I WAS KINDA GETTING USE TO THINGS LIKE THAT HAPPENING TO ME, BUT I HAD ONLY BEEN WEARING MY HAIR LIKE THAT FOR A FEW MONTHS. SO, THE DAY OF THE CONCERT I WENT AND GOT MY HAIR DONE, I'M GOING TO SEE PRINCE!!! THE MAN WHO INFLUENCED MY LIFE!!! THE LADY WHO DONE MY HAIR, AS I WAS SEATING IN HER CHAIR, I TOLD HER THAT I WAS GOING TO THE PRINCE CONCERT THAT NIGHT, AND SHE SAID IT, "PRINCE IS GOING TO SEE YOU TONIGHT"!!! I SAID TO MYSELF, YEA, RIGHT!!! I KNEW SHE WAS THE BEST, BECAUSE SHE HAD MADE ME SO POPULAR IN DALLAS. I HAD THE BEST HAIR AND THAT'S WHAT THE REAL PLAYER'S USE TO DO. GO GET OUR HAIR DONE!!! JAMES BROWN STARTED IT, WOKE UP Y'ALL , KNOW YOUR HISTORY. PRINCE WAS THE SAME WAY!!! SO, I WAS STARTING TO GET USE TO BEING LOOKED AT AS, THERE IS SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT A BLACK MAN THAT CAN GROW HIS HAIR LIKE THAT, BUT PRINCE NOTICING IT!!! THAT CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD. EVEN THOUGH , ALL OF THE HOT BEAUTIFUL WHITE GIRLS THAT WERE THERE TO SEE PRINCE WERE ALL OVER ME BEFORE THE SHOW. THAT WAS FUN TOO!!! THERE WAS ANOTHER BROTHER TRYING TO HANG WITH ME BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE GIRLS WERE COMING TO ME, SO I LET HIM. HE WAS COOL BECAUSE HE KEPT TELLING ME, "THEY ON YOU"!!! HE LOVED IT, PEOPLE DID USE TO LIKE TO SEE ME IN ACTION. I REMEMBER ONE WHITE BOY CAME OUT FROM THE OPENING ACT TRIPPING. TALKING ABOUT Y'ALL DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO THAT IS, BUT HE WAS LOOKING AT ME. I KNEW WHAT IT WAS, HE WISHED THAT ALL THOSE WHITE WERE ALL OVER HIM LIKE THAT. REMEMBER THAT THIS IS 1997!!! HE WAS SAYING, "THAT'S SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE, Y'ALL DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO IT IS! I'M LIKE, MAN, I GOT ALL THESE GIRLS ALL OVER ME, WE DON'T CARE ABOUT SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE!!! LOL... THEN, THE DOORS OPENED TO SEE PRINCE, THAT OTHER BLACK GUY THAT WAS TRYING TO HANG WITH ME HAD TO GO HIS OWN WAY AND I WENT MINE. NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT, HE PROBABLY HAD HORRIBLE SEATS LOL... SORRY, I WAS PIMPING LOL. I WAS USE TO GETTING ATTENTION, BUT FROM PRINCE !!! THE WHO SOLD ME MY TICKET WAS RIGHT, I DID HAVE A GREAT SEAT, 2ND LEVEL ON THE LEFT SIDE, BUT EYE LEVEL OF PRINCE. SO, WHEN HE TURNED TO THAT SIDE, I GOT ATTENTION WITH MY HAIR LIKE THAT, NOW I WAS COOL FROM HAIR TO TOE!!! PLUS BEING SURROUNDED BY NOTHING BUT WHITE GIRLS BLONES AGAIN!!! NOW THAT WAS WHAT WE CALLED PIMPING, AND PRINCE KNEW THAT!!! DON'T HATE, HE KNEW I GOT IT FROM HIM AND RICK JAMES!!! MICHAEL JACKSON, PRINCE AND RICK JAMES GOT IT FROM JAMES BROWN. ELVIS WAS A PLAYER TOO, HE IS THE ULTIMATE!!! ALL OF THE REAL PLAYERS WANNA BE LIKE ELVIS REATHER YOU KNOW IT ARE NOT!!! TO PRINCE CALLING ME ON STAGE, NOW YOU CAN SEE WHY!!! IT WAS LIKE 45MIN INTO HIS SHOW AND BACK IN 1997, I DID NOT KNOW HE CALLED PEOPLE ON STAGE. I KNOW THAT HE KEPT HIS EYES ON ME. I WAS SAYING TO MYSELF, "PRINCE IS LOOKING AT ME" REALLY STARING AT ME!!! HE HAD TWO REASONS WHY HE KEPT LOOKING AT ME, ONE... MY HAIR, AND 2...HE WAS GETTING READY TO CALLED ME AND A FEW OTHERS ON STAGE. BUT I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST ONES. I WAS LIKE NUMBER 2 OR 3, BUT I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST ONES. SO, PRINCE CALLED A GIRL IN THE FRONT ROW, THEN SOMEONE ELSE. THEN HE WAVED HIS HAND IN MY DICRECTION. I WAS LIKE, NO DON'T BE A SHOW OFF, BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHAT I WAS DOING BEFORE THE SHOW, "PIMPING ". AND TWO...HE MAY BE CALLING SOME OF THESE WHITE THAT ARE SEATING AROUND ME... NOPE, BECAUSE I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT TALL BLONDE STOOD UP AND GRABBED ME SAID, "HE'S TALKING TO YOU, OR HE'S LOOKING AT YOU, GO, GO"!!!

I WOULD HAVE BEEN DANCING RIGHT NEXT TO PRINCE BECAUSE I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST ONE HE WANTED ON STAGE WITH. THIS WAS NOT A SMALL VENUE. IT WAS A SOLD OUT CROWD WITH ABOUT 20,000. AS THE DRUM BEEAT WAS GOING AND PRINCE SHOWED THEM😢 WHAT TO DO!!! HE TOLD EACH ONE WHET HE LIKED ABOUT THEM. HOW THEY GOT PICKED, NOW I'M STANDING WATCHING MAD,

THIS WAS GOING INTO NEW YEARS EVE, DALLAS POLICE DON'T PLAY. I WAS ABOUT TO GET OFF OF PAPERS, IF Y'ALL KNOW WHAT I MEAN, HAD A DATE AT 6 IN THE MORNING, BECAUSE SHE WAS, WELL NEVER MIND THAT, BUT SHE WAS GOING TO BRING ME LOTS OF GIFTS , AND I HAD LONG PIMPED OUT HAIR!!! I BETTER GET OFF THESE DALLAS STREETS. I'VE HAD MY FUN!!! PRINCE SAW ME, GIRLS ALL OVER ME!!! I HAD A GREAT TIME!! AND Y'ALL KNOW PRINCE'S SHOW WAS AWESOME. I LOVED IT!!! I GOT TO HEAR ALL OF MY FAVORITE SONGS IN HIS FASETTO VOICE, JAMING ON THE GUITAR. AND HE CALLED ME, ON STAGE!!! NOT RANDOMLY, HE CALLED ME FOR A REASON!!! I LOVE YOU PRINCE!!!
On the Same Tour he visited Shreveport Louisiana but didn't perform because of strep throat, one of the worst days of my life, To this Day I'm not really fond of Concerts

REMEMBER When he said to the girl, "I LOVE YOU TOO, AND THE CROWD WENT WILD!!! I was there too! I know, I have seen the one and only Prince 3 times and each time something kinda happens. The last time I saw him is every PRINCE FANS DREAM, well he called me up on stage in Dallas TX 1997!! I have posted some of that night about what happened. I will get back to it. After a concert he made an appearance at a club I worked. After the concert I had to go to work becausehim and his people might get hungry. I was a cook. I did not have to fire up the grill or cook anything because they were all rabbits. He would only hire vegetarians. Everyone paid $20 cover and Prince kept everyone waiting for hours. He made an appearance for five minutes and did not acknowledge the crowd. No "thanks for coming". Just stand there and look at me for five minutes for $20. Huge disappointment

Copyright, unlikely since they were all on Warner Brothers and WB owns their rights for those albums. My guess is it was cost, WB was probably 2 cheap to pay to have it all remastered and put on 2 DVD’s instead of 1. And they would justify not have them included by saying, “This is a Prince/1999 box set not a V6/Time boxset.” Just my guess. I’ve never seen the V6 footage from this concert, but The Time footage has been available on bootleg for quite a while (& coming here very soon). Thank u4 the comment. 🕊️☮️

Don’t understand this awful sound (the long reverb make this very difficult 2 enjoy... impossible 4 me...) why the estate chose this one 4 dvd release is a mystery 2 me.... without any explanation... some video bootlegs have better sound... very disapointed when i bought this 1999 deluxe edition...

You are right, the estate did this, but Prince would not have let us see this much if he was alive. Prince was waiting to release stuff from the Vault. And it didn't sound like it was going to be anytime soon!!! I would have waited another 50 years to still have him here!!!
