Still teaching new players...hello from the 2020 Covid shutdown! Just bought the core set and am really enjoying this series as the game is rather complex just from reading the rule book. This series is so helpful...thank you!
So glad you're discovering and enjoying this series. I love this game (and the rule book was tricky, so hopefully the videos help!)
A minor point of interest: Characters and attachments exhaust separately. You didn't need to exhaust the Blade of Gondolin when you exhausted Legolas. In this instance it makes no difference to the game play, but there are some attachments which are designed to be exhausted separately from their character.
For example, Unexpected Courage (spirit sphere) says "Exhaust Unexpected Courage to ready hero", which effectively allows your hero to exhaust twice in one round.
Great video. I'm new to the game and this will help a lot... after I see it a few more time! Thanks!!
Bought the revised core set, this is so helpful!
Have a great time playing Jean!
Just bought my first Core Set. Can't wait to play my first game this weekend!
I hope you have a great time playing Anton!
can't wait for the next video! see you in 24 hours :-)
See you then :)
You might want to discard that shadow card at the top of the encounter deck if you know what card it is. There are some cards in the game that allow you to see what cards are near the top of the encounter deck. In that case, you would be choosing a lesser of two evils, or what you hope will be a less powerful encounter card on the next draw.
Love this game
I'm fairly new to the game and I just bought the whole Mirkwood cycle in anticipation of playing through - let's hope what I've learned sees me come through in one piece.
+Bilbo Bagshot All the best in your adventuring!
Thanks a lot for keeping me company during my dinner!
Still bringing new people to the game!
Great to hear :)
the threat level can be difficult to read when it is superimposed (in light colors) over the token cup at the top of the screen. Not a big deal, but something to think about. Thanks for doing the series, I enjoy it a lot (especially being able to see games I'm no likely to purchase but can now play if I'm around them). Although your Mansions series sold me and I just picked it up (and played my first two games).
These vids are great! Bought the core set and watched all these vids twice, played my first game pretty smoothly!
Still didn’t complete the first quest card haha.
It's challenging - good luck on your future attempts!
Hi, from October, 2021! Refreshing my memory on how to play :D
Let's do it!
***** Rodney, I love this series and your WiP of LOTR really helped me out when I first started playing it. Watching it again just because it's been a while.
I hope you plan to do a WiP of Mage Knight. It's supposed to be a fantastic solo game but rather complex, and since I was given it as a gift recently I'd love it if you showed us how to play it.
Great to hear you enjoyed the series! Thank you.
No plans to cover Mage Knight currently, but you may wish to check out Ricky Royal's excellent series on it: ua-cam.com/video/J_zW9zDxeYU/v-deo.html
Chyron8472 You're so lucky to get that game. I live in Germany and it's so hard to find. I hope they print it again soon! Enjoy it. :)
I hope you can get your hands on it!
I'd say, commit the dwarves and the spearmen to back them up. Leaving Legolas to handle any mob that might appear, and also backed up by the cool quick strike ability.
I just discovered this. It’s awesome!
Thank you so much - glad you enjoyed :)
Watch It Played I’m still trying to figure out the game and not to die on the first few turns 😂
I agree with the others - send in the dwarves and hope for an enemy which Legolas can defeat. (A location would waste his ability.)
Great video, but help me clear up one thing. That killer, Legolas, puts progress tokens to the locations so you can discard them. My question is, how would you put progress tokens to the locations cards if you dont a have a hero with that effect?
Hi Niklos, I shot this long enough ago that I don't recall the exact process, but this is covered in previous videos, so I'd have to direct you to watch those. There is a phase where you can quest to put tokens on locations.
9:20 lol 😂😂😂😂
So the spider doesn't move back to the staging area? Damn no wonder I was done in 4 turns...LOL. thanks for the video.
A pleasure to assist! ;)
Let the dwarves quest again, and hope there isnt`t coming the same nasty treasure card again.
If there comes an location, travel to that. Otherwise it will be hard if there are more and more cards in the staging area to keep the threat low.
If there comes an enemy, use quick strike to kill him.(and declare the gondorian spearman as defender if legolas alone wouldnt kill it.)
Next turn I would play Gandalf, drawing 3 cards. And travel with Gandalf and the 2 dwarves to get a big progress by questing
Thanks for the awesome tutorial. I'm just really confused became I thought the second dwarf got defeated and discharged in the last video. Can anyone explain or am I missing something?
I'd be happy to try to help, but I shot this long enough ago that I'd need you to provide me the link and time stamp of the previous video, so I could check.
@@WatchItPlayed wow thanks for the quick reply on such an old video. I watched it again (ua-cam.com/video/ghgnF_PBO5M/v-deo.html starting around minute 5). A dwarf was defeated ("useless dwarf") but because I thought that only heros can be dealt damage I didn't understand that it was actually an ally that got defeated. The damage cannot be given to allys on undefended attacks then?
Correct - happy to help!
@@WatchItPlayed you really helped me out understanding that game. It was sitting on my shelf for a couple of years now. Me and my friends thought about playing it every now and again but were overwhelmed by the rulebook... (over 30 pages in German). Now I feel very much prepared to give it a proper try.
@@chrstiania It feels like a lot when you're first starting, but after a couple games I think you'll find it really starts to click. I hope you have a great time with it!
so you can spend tokens any time not only on Planing Phase ??
That sort of depends, there are certain cards that can only be played at certain times, but as long as it is one of those times, then yep, you can spend the tokens to play those cards.
Well, I originally started watching this LoTR game series in passing interest...but now seeing the game played, I want this game. It looks like a lot of fun and very challenging. Was that your plan, Sir? ;)
Wasted resource...why not let the attack go and declare spearman to the defend and as soon as he was declared it auto does 1 damage killing the spider so you wouldn't have wasted a card and resource?
Hard to say at this point, as I recorded this 3 years ago. No doubt viewers will find other ways (and better ways) to attack certain challenges.
You woudlnt get 3 progress tokens from the spearman
***** It seems like you got confused. You played the spearman because he could defend against the spider and kill it before it dealt damage -- and then you didn't have him defend.
If you'd had him defend against the spider, no you wouldn't have gotten 3 progress tokens, but you'd have had one more resource -- which would have given you enough this turn to equip the Citadel Armor. On the other hand, if you hadn't played him, you'd have _two_ more resources -- so you could equip the armor _and_ use the new Quick Strike you got for finishing your exploration of the Mountains of Mirkwood.
