Great insight. Good to see Cleveland perfecting them ever so slightly.
I loved hearing a bit more from the Srixon guy about what they have done. I am intrigued by these. I have a few Cleveland wedges in my wedge collection but use mostly Vokey's now and I love the feel and control on SM6 wedges. Certainly want to give them a run. It is good seeing all the major wedge guys trying to do things to mix it up be it Callaway (the "real Cleveland") with the PM build, Vokey on SM6, Ping was first with different grooves based on loft, and all that is going on here. I like the tour raw finish.
I have the RTX original 54 and 60, love them. I would love to give these a shot and I would agree, I love the dark finish. Still do after a long time.
I haven't played Cleveland wedges in years, but moving the center of gravity away from the hosel, is about as cutting-edge as you can get, in wedge design. Really cool.
I've give you stick in the past for interviews but this was really good mark, I want some new wedges and might give these a try, a switch from vokeys, good stuff.
Obviously this isn't a huge difference from their previous clubs, but I'm loving that he's acknowledging the tolerances instead of all the BS from most manufacturers
Beautiful wedges, definitely will be my next wedges after my MD2's are done.
Good review (as usual). Just about to replace my aged wedges with these but wondered if high loft/low bounce (60/6) would be a good combo for thin sand/hard pan bunkers? Regards.
Banging video!
Looks like a lovely wedge
I have Cleveland wedges 52 edge and 50 deg , bent to 49 by my fitter, Nick Hibbs. Lovely . Really lovely. Only one I've tried that I didn't like is the HUGE 60 deg ; 10 bounce Mackdaddy PM grind wedge. The huge bounce made it very difficult to get a clean strike on the tight links courses I play. Good on lush grass, sand and rough though.
I game the 588 rtx custom 54* 12 2dot and the 60* 8 1dot ...have owned them for almost a year now ...play at least twice a week and practice of some sort everyday ...and the 54* i use alot and I have been very pleased with the wedges and the durability of them ...still very good grooves after a year of play/practice ....I have them in the tour satin ...would you suggest I buy the new model now or wait another year ?
Just got me a black satin thanks for the video
I like the adjusted grind on the bounce based on the loft. it seems like the would play more consistent
Dark wedge. Looks great and no glare.
Look good will defo be having a look when they are released in September. Out of the 2 prefer the dark finish and know that will wear but no probs with that. Probably overall would rather have the 'raw' finish ..... but why do we have to wait for 2017 for old rusty?
Was so excited for these to come out so I could finally grab a set of 2.0's at half price!!
Totally agree! Still loving my RTX originals though... great blend with my irons.
The black finish looks cool 🐧 🍦 ⛄
Those sound really nice.
The grooves do look better on the dark one, but I think I'd still go with the stainless one as I prefer a lighter wedge as it contrasts better with the grass/ground, plus looks bigger. I'd never go raw in any wedge though as again it turns into a dark head, plus rust actually reduces spin as it's a flaky material (similar to the face being dirty) and corrosion wears down the grooves faster. So I wouldn't even bother waiting for the raw. Though I do wonder why they wouldn't bring out the raw with the rest... I mean it's not like their factories aren't equipped to do that yet or something since they have been doing raw wedges for years.
All of the above though is if I "had" to choose between the two. But... I don't think I'd use this wedge in any finish really. It seems like it would be a step down from my Mac Daddy PM Grind in that it's smaller, not as high of a toe, doesn't have as large of heel AND toe relief to get the ball out of cuppy lies, grooves are not completely across the whole face... Granted I'm sure I could use these for regular shots, but when it comes down to all-around versatility from the more difficult kinds of lies, I think they'd come up short.
Rotex 2s had best spin but only shanked those clubs and those clubs only. Never knew about COG being on heel which makes sense for shanks. Definitely try those out
3 of those will be in my bag
Sorry Mark, missed most of that because I was gazing at that lovely flag behind you. #scotland #bewildered
+Owen Tweed haha it is lovely
+Mark Crossfield bought rtx 2.0 before last season in in tour satin and I play and practice 3 to 5 days a week and at least hit a few chips into a net inside if nothing else almost every day and they still look almost as good as when I bought them ....my question for you is ....do I need to buy these new wedges? are they that much more advanced ....or do I wait another season ....like I said my current wedges are still in great condition....
Donny Wilcox unless they're worn out they'll be fine
when you can't stop them or they keep rolling on you could change then. its all about grooves I have rtx 2 some are worn others not but whatever buy them together for consistency.
When is ferndown volgs??
good Mark, first time you let the adder guy talk.
I would love cleveland wedges. Im going to get a 60 but cant decide on the second degree.. Pw is my next..
i prefer the black Cleveland wedges, I use an Cleveland old tour action 900 56 degree in black and i love it
Nice wedges...GOLD for Rose...
What's happened to the bmth vlogs Mark.
Dark Finish for me Mark apart from I managed to get a set of the raw ones the mutts nuts happy days.
I like the black finish because it gives the illusions on smaller face, which makes me concentrate more :p
rtx 3 vs rtx 2.0 comparison?
like the darker finish, although in my experience that soon disappears after use and doesn't look as good. The Raw finish sounds much more me.
i agree the raw is where it is.. I have a old trusty rusty, and sole old raw vokeys that are rusted and look great and spin good too even 15 years later
I completely agree. I currently have a Callaway MacDaddy in black, and the black has worn away over time. I loved the look when I first got it, but it just doesn't last. I think it's better to go with the more natural look.
I sort of like how they look when the finish wears off. Shows you actually use them lol
BigBlueMSP illegal
I prefer satin wedge. Cleveland are great wedges
“Stop that hammering” 😁⛳️
prefer the satin finish...why...cuz i do and i think they look better as they wear
I need a new wedge, mine are great off the turf but my flange is too big!(wipe that silly smirk off ya face) Struggling to splash shots out of bunkers without knifing them.
Centre of whatsit moving away from heal nearer to toe. Won't suit me then, commonly between heal and centre
Bang bang bang...
I prefer silver finish, now I got black satin wedges and after year of playing they look terrible in my opinion. Next set of wedges wedges definitely satin and of course like last 2 sets Cleveland.
On all wedge play its what the player feels not what the manufacturer says
Black finish due to less glare
RAW left handed my please!!!!! (lol)
Darker
Darker would be better, raw would be best!
they are no bigger, except the top line is fatter and makes the whole club look bigger
Love the performance of Cleveland wedges but hate the shape of them :/
Getting fed up with all this techno sh£te, every club manufacturer is doing something and it's all different from each other with all of them telling us that there's works and the others don't. How on earth did the likes of Player, Nicklaus, Palmer, Seve, Faldo get around those courses with blades, wooden drivers and balata balls.
Hmmmm whenever i hear techno rubbish explanations like this I cease to take a manufacturer seriously; its an immediate off put. Will stick with more traditional firms like Mizuno and Callaway who generally know what they are talking about.
....oh and before any of you young blades have a go at me perhaps you could tell me what happens to the CoG when you attach the shaft, what the difference is between shaft and hozzle, how long is the effective shaft (hint: it depends on where you hold it) and do your arms constitute part of the equation for calculating CoG or not? Does the track of the club change effective sweet spot? No? Well you are in good company because the literature cant answer these questions either. Basically its bollocks. All these questions are irrelevant, you fit a club to how a person swings it and moving teh CoG is as bonkers as it gets, it made Nike a laughing stock and wont do any favours for cleveland ;-)
+Vici Martynov i agree with u but I'm assuming they measure their numbers using robots and or computer models and that they can justify their numbers that way when in actuality they are meaningless
Centre of mass position is probably one of the most influential design variables over launch and spin, but you're happy to listen to 'more traditional firms' like Callaway talk about the hottest, cuppiest faces they've ever made... every 6 months?
Yes it is, shame that isnt where the sweet spot is isnt it? But then anybody who has ever designed a baseball bat could tell you that. The fact is traditional firms dont tend to pretend they understand weird science. They might have silly slogans but the basic technology is sound.
+Vici Martynov vici ur going to confuse the children
Dark Finish for me Mark apart from I managed to get a set of the raw ones the mutts nuts happy days.
