Nineties Star Wars Figures Showcase | Ashens

- Ah, the '90s! When the X-Files ruled TV, everybody wore jumpers from The Sweater Shop and Star Wars figures looked like they'd been pumping iron every hour of every day for their entire lives. Join me and Alec as we showcase some astonishingly buff Star Wars characters and other bizarre design choices.
"you idiots! These are not them. You've captured their stunt doubles!"
Thank you for that XD
I love Space Balls.
@@MansMan42069 same, I've bought it multiple times now (because I loan it out and it goes missing)
They probably thought that the stunt doubles were the actual cast when modelling the figures.
I'd forgotten that bit of Space Balls, thank yoooooou
As ridiculous as he is, I kind of like the Tatooine Luke figure because he reminds me of the the really early Star Wars posters where they painted him to be overly buff & he had the giant lightsaber that stretched into the sky.
The Tim Hildebrandt poster? I love that one.
@@KillThadyeah
@@KillThadThe Tom Jung poster is the one with the most jacked physique.
@@jamesoblivionyeah
Star Wars if luke was played by He man, Han was played by Schwarzenegger and Leia was played by Ron Perlman.
And Lando by a Shaft-era Isaac Hayes
Stallone did audition for Han Solo
Lmfaooo
Doctor Whom? That would be so odd. Nothing against Stallone, but I couldn’t see him being Han.
And Chewbacca played by a dust bunny
People complaining about the couch. Maybe it's the fact that the couch looks like it has abs?
It's too hench, clearly.
Poor office sofa, he was so proud to be chosen as brown sofa's understudy after the grueling auditions. He's clean, does not smell, is never late for work, doesn't have an heroin problem, but the fan treat him like Jar Jar Binks.
SlyPearTree Office Sofa looks like a decent place to sit. Definitely better for display because it's moderately flat too.
Mikalhvi it looks like a sofa bed I got at Ikea before
Have a* heroin addiction
Why is everyone complaining about the damn couch? This is the one he always uses for crap star wars figures. This, is the crappy star wars couch. With its futuristic squares of scifiiness and it's space age colour scheme (grey), ashens traverses the galaxy atop this couch, and anyone he meets is instantly turned into a crap plastic rendition of themselfs with a dangerously high crude oil content.
Nah, one of the fake videos were done on the brown one.
I love the intro that has like 3 different notes to the star wars theme so it is legally distinct and therefore okay
lampini Legally Distinct is the name of my new album.
I will listen to that album!
I want to know who made it
WhitePointStar Productions
Covers?
The start has the theme to Airwolf in it.
Alec is definitely one of my favorite guests. So knowledgable, plus he and Stuart bounce off each other really well. Class act.
Rip alec
If figures like this are anything to go by, muscles are the 90's version of the 2010's big-headed-ness.
In 2021, the giant heads will be muscular as hell. Their tongues will have six packs.
Yeah rather have he man than a funko pop
@@pryingeyes1551 Thank you for the mental image...
I'd still have big heads over big eyes. Those things creep me out.
@@pryingeyes1551what?
I'm helping a grown man make a living by watching him play with toys. God I love the internet.
Vader _was_ played by a body builder, but he was not _that_ large.
Findecanor I thought mufasa was in the suit
Julio Real he only did the voice
Julio Real David Proust, a Welsh body builder, was inside the suit for the Original trilogy. James Earl Jones was dubbed over him. Sebastian Shaw played the helmetless Vader at the of ROTJ
Also I think bodybuilding in the 70's wasn't so intense. Compared to what they have now at least
GNerdful His name is David _Prowse_, and he is from Bristol, England.
Prowse always knew that a voice-over was needed, but believed that he was going to do it despite his West Country accent. He was not happy when another actor was chosen and he was outspoken about it, and so grudges formed between him and Lucas.
During ROTJ, the scene with Sebastian Shaw was kept secret and Prowse had been scheduled for a photo shoot somewhere else at the same time just to keep him away.
Prowse is still not being invited to Lucasfilm's own events, despite of Lucas no longer being involved.
Prowse had quite an imposing figure at the time. He has been in other monster movies, and he is seen working out in A Clockwork Orange. He was also Christopher Reeve's personal trainer for a while.
Now I'm imagining a ripped, monster Peter Cushing in the Hammer Frankenstein films, ripping people limb from limb with his bare hands, and reconstructing them as his creations
There was an even better Greedo released in the 90's where his legs weren't toned, the knees bent, one of his arms is bent in a way so that he's pointing his blaster at Han, and the vest is a separate piece, which can be moved to the side to reveal a wound. One of my favorite figures as a kid.
I have that figure and it’s great!
I had that one and it was one of my favourites
Now I kind of want to see a 90's remake of the the Original Trilogy where Luke is played by Arnold Schwarznegger
Ace Danger So do I man! :D
I'd say Han. That way Lando can be played Carl Weathers and they can do the Predator handshake.
4thSurviver Lol yes, they must in every movie they’re in
@Risen General *"Get to da Falcah!"*
"I want to go to tashi station for power converters"
"Yes Luke,of course Luke, please don't hurt us Luke"
*Han Solo does arnold voice* AUUGH! COME ON LUKE! AUUGH! WE'LL SHOW THE EMPIRE THE TRUEEEE DEATH STAR, MY MUSCLES!
*Stabbed by Kylo*
“I’ll be back”
"That's no moon... It's a bicep!"
Han Swolo
Cinnamon Bun Kylo stabs him, he falls down the shaft, giving a thumbs-up the whole way...
Hey Vader!
Your fired!
This episode brought to you by: the word "hench"
Jesus christ, Lando looks like Carl Weathers...bloody massive build. He and the Luke figure can re-create the muscular handshake from Predator.
I understand the reason for the music, but it makes me feel like my ears are on backwards
I bought about 100 of these figures back when they were released 25 years ago. They are worth less now than what I paid for them then. :D
I’m 22 and I’m collecting them now for cheap haha
I collected them back in the day but gave up and sold them.
@16:06 "But then, we've got the spirit of Obi-wan..."
"We can make Darth Vader kick it." 😂
16:15
Leia looks like she's about to wrestle someone
I kept thinking she looks like a fencer with really bad posture. I think it's the all white thing.
She actually looks *exactly* like a weird dude in my class. Other than that girl body it looks perfectly like him.
You made me laugh so much I almost choked and throw up my breakfast. Thank you for that hahaha
Though admittedly the Imperial Guard did have about as much action as a toy as they did in the movie. "Okay, now we need you to stand around and do nothing. Perfect! Cut!" Oh, and that part where the Emperor tells them to leave and they turn around and walk off? Gave me goosebumps.
That Luke looks like a repurposed HeMan figure. Hasbro were responsible for Masters of the Universe figures? **Edit** Mattel.. so no... not in the official sense.
Badmuthatrucker666 that would be Mattel
Ah, yes...
No, that was Mattel (one of the few toy companies that WEREN'T bought out by Hasbro). The MOTU figures were also at a completely different scale than the Star Wars ones.
AFAIK, the Star Wars smaller figures were on the 4.75" high scale (Hasbro has made their GI Joe small figures from the '80s on in this same scale) while Mattel's MOTU figures were in the 6" tall scale (ToyBiz made Marvel characters smaller ones in the '90s in that larger scale, as an example).
You see, you're not dealing with your average jedi warrior anymore...
Star Wars: The henchpire strikes back.
What is funny about both the Stormtrooper E11 blaster and the Rebel DH-17 is that I believe that the props are actually both based on the sterling submachine gun, so it's just extra funny.
Wait till you hear about every other blaster in the series.
Like the sniper rifle the stormtroopers use and Hans blaster
That "light-piping" thing was actually used by the Nintendo Switch. The joy-con grips and wrist straps used it to show the battery/player number on the controllers. When I saw it I immediately thought of that R2 figure.
What if, people, stay with me... HE HAS TWO COUCHES!?
"The force is strong in my family. My father has it, I have it, and.... my sister has it."
"Brother actually."
Looks like luke went to toshi station for steroids and power converters.
Look, he really needs those power converters
Chickenfarmer10 lol turns out “Power Converters” is just slang for steroids in the first place 😅
The Royal guard must hold the record of figures with the fewest points of articulation at a whopping 2.
Man it's crazy, I remember when this was new and it's nearly 5 years old already
did NO ONE read the scroll or watch any of his previous star war videos?? ITS HIS OFFICE COUCH. As he said in one of the first knock off videos "knockoff couch for knockoff figures."
True but these were official
I got it - Luke Skywalker as drawn by Rob Liefeld!
The 90s were EXTREME !!!!! Everything was EXTREME !!!! Cops fined you if you weren't making half pipes with a skateboard because everything HAD TO BE EXTREEEEME !!!
Cybiko XTREEEEEEEEEME! (Sorry, i had to lol)
I owned every single figure from that collection. I ended up giving all of them away to a kid.
The later figures got much better. Grand Moff Tarkin was pretty good. It's one of the few I have kept. The Gamorrean guard was perfect.
I actually love the look of these (aside from Leia), gonna go order them. Yeah they're ripped but that was part of the charm you signed up for in 80s, 90s.
You fools, if you actually read the expanded universe comics and books you would know that luke was not only a jedi master but also a chef master who was known through out the galaxy for his mastery of all seven forms of cooking techniques, so next time do your research and try not to embarres the starwars fan base
Embarrass*
"I do however like the third leg you can pull out", every teenage boy ever XD
Kieran Campire the mega gay ones at least 😁
For the storm trooper the second gun (t-21) was actually use in A New Hope on Mos Isley
An excellent UA-cam video.
Chef Excellence thx chef exlence u are ecellent
It's official: Stuart has grown 4 arms.
I've only just discovered Ashens channel and watched all the figure vids (I'm 42 and still love my action figures) and they have me creasing🤣🤣🤣
I love the banter!!!
Thanks @ashens
Ashens, I'm holding you personally responsible for my lack of sleep this morning along with my incoherence later on today.
I honestly think these figures were based off the 1970s Star Wars comic artwork.
These action figure videos remind me of Spaceballs. "Did you see anything?"
"No, sir! I didn't see you playing with your dolls again!" (slams door)
Athens is best viewed during the middle of the night when you have to try not to laugh so you don't wake anyone, it makes his content even funnier than it already is.
Why are all the comments about the couch. This is probably his 10th video with the office couch in.
Pointblankmos
So, this is an auxiliary couch/back up sofa? And not the permanent one?
PLEASE reply quickly, I have to inform my setee support group...
Lee Perkins It's the Star Wars figure couch.
Lee Perkins It's the office couch. Normally used for Star Wars figs. The old couch will return :)
Not to mention that the opening text of this video mentions that it's the office couch.
Luke is so buff and into working out, even when thrown up against a wall (back of sofa) he takes it as a cue to start doing commando press ups.
He said he's at the office. Settle down about the couch people.
Ashens, "a bottle of Billy D's" is one of the funnier things I've ever heard you say on this show. Cheers!
"Dance being very letheal in the Star Wars universe"
*Has flashbacks to the Just Dance Star Wars addition* AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMYYYYYYYYYYYYYGAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Or just Auralnauts Star Wars series. Jedi dance fights :)
These are just Star Wars themed he man figures
Just so that everyone knows, the reason there's no couch is because they're actually in the Millennium Falcon. They forgot the couch and all they had was what was in the ship already. Don't worry, though; it's docked at the moment.
CorruptGamer -docking joke-
So does the sofa that's in shot for the entire video not count?
I love the 90's POTF2 Line. Lot's of nostalgia to when I was 3-5 years old and first getting into Star Wars. The 1995 Chewbacca figure is still one of my favorite action figures ever.
It's like He-Man and friends are cosplaying Star Wars characters.
Obi Wan-kenobi looks like Robin Williams..
Paul Gascoigne too soon
WHATS WITH THE COUCH
Alon G he did his other star wars figure video on this couch
Alon G it's the couch in his office.
Alon just
I don't like it, new things uncomfortablate me.
Simon Brown Jesus, calm down. He just made an innocent inside joke.
"Dancing is very lethal in the Star Wars universe" Actually accurate, most of not all of Jabba's court died (the one dancer was thrown the Rancor pit and many more perished aboard the Khettana) and the Ewoks are not seen again after the film ends so they probably died as soon as the credits rolled.
You know, movie accuracy out the window is something Hasbro is still known for.. :P Ask any brony how the early Celestia figures looked compared to the character in the show! XD I'll give you a hint: They made her pink.. :O
Blaster was nearly the height of Metroplex back in G1.
@@TheSmart-CasualGamer to be fair: that was technically on Takara and not really hasbro.
Oh good, so we'll all get nostalgic for Friendship is Magic in a few years and get rewarded with UNREASONABLY HENCH CARTOON HORSES.
Ah, Star Wars figures videos will never be the same if he starts doing them on the brown sofa.
the Obi wan Kenobi figure without the cape looks a bit like Jeremy Corbin xD
2004-09 was the best years for Star Wars action figures in my opinion.
Ah, the 90's... When everyone was on steroids.
I love people missing the brown sofa, (even though they're calling it couch) despite this grey one featuring before
"Like it was Life Day."
Hoooooo boy, that's a good joke. Wow.
In 1995 i was busy with raving and E, good times
2:33 That's a cooking implement from a galaxy near you, too. I use a similar tool to mix sauce, just the non-scoped variant.
"in 20 years I've never seen that happen"
THAT'S NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!
I kind of want to watch a Star Wars movie where everyone is beefed up muscle monsters like these figures. Have everyone do basic Arnie impression and have trouble walking through doors because their shoulders are too wide and anytime they're idle they just do body builder poses.
Oh hey! You finally cleaned the couch! Can't believe it wasn't originally brown!
Pffft, the eggwhisk! XD
I am pretty sure Rob Liefield is solely to blame for the fact that the nineties required every character, from suave young Luke Skywalker to cute little robot boy Mega Man, to be all muscled up. At least with the Mega Man designs they did a few interesting things, like, I always thought the muscled up Cut Man and Elec Man looked sorta cool.
Ahaha, the bendables got a mention! I loved those, they were so cute, and as a kid it was just so awesome to be able to have all that "articulation".
The Kenner "Power of the Force" lineup are the ones I remember getting in the 90's and they were pretty damned awesome.
Edit: Huh. Well these seem to be the same ones except their paint jobs are way worse. Maybe that's a UK thing... On a side note, that exact Stormtrooper was my first Star Wars figure ever and I loved it to death. I made him a spaceship out of an old shoebox because my mom couldn't really afford to go all out on toys at the time. I still have him, though at some point his legs broke off at the point of bending and I had to superglue him back together. Man, this is so nostalgic!
"Vader was a strong bastard, but not in the bodybuilding sense."
He was played by a bodybuilder, a heavyweight weightlifting champion.
Yeah but did vader look that fuck off big in the movies
That Lando figure looks like the animated version of Black Dynamite.
Need more poundland food specials!
His stomach can only take so much punishment.
hope I've got the right person here, if I have just want to say I've enjoyed your smashing pumpkins uploads. been a fan of sp for ages.
darren ideson if you're talking to me, you have the wrong person. Haha
I love those specials too. I think he said it's harder to find weird/bad food these days in Poundland as they sell the same sort of stuff other supermarkets do mostly, just cheaper :(
Sometimes he surprises us though.
A few years 99p stores used to sell more unsual sweets/chocolate but not anymore :(
yes yes yes yes ow yes
Aside from the missing sofa, I have to say that I have never seen so many bodybuilder-based Star Wars characters ever! :D
Liefeld Wars Episode V: The Image Strikes Back
Not enough pouches.
back in the early 90s when I was just a chap, my mum's friend's kids were a lot older than me and they once gave me a star wars figure (clearly because they didn't even want it) and I will never forget this, they told me he was called the doorbell ringer because he had a pointing finger, and they went into an elaborate story about it, and every time I see him now I have to tell who ever I'm with, no you're wrong, he's called the doorbell ringer. ahhh.. nostalgia, best get it all out before I'm 30 in a couple of months lol
11:25 That thigh gap.
Just imagining the movie with these exact caracters is hilarious.
That couch is making me uncomfortable
Sam T unsubbed
Sam T I think its an ikea futon
How do you think Ashens feels?
There are stains on it, what more could you ask for?
Ironic, since its a couch they arent sitting on but going videos on. Actually watching it makes you uncomfortable
We all remember the classic montage in Star Wars when Luke was power-whisking eggs getting super ripped before taking on the Empire.
"I dreamed I was a Jedi-in-training in my Iron Maidenform bra..."
Not sure why, but the lightsaber poking the lens made me laugh quite a bit.
They weren't great, but I was just happy to be able to get new Star Wars toys back then.
SEO Toy Review
If I see these figure lines for dirt cheap I still buy them...Especially Bob Fett ones..
Ditto, ones I grew up with.
HOLY SHIT ITS RYAN!!!!!! I'm such a Big Ryan Fan!!!!!!
The sheer rage in Alec's voice about the Royal Guard reminds me of how I felt when I bought that piece of shit.
WHERE IS THE ASHENS BROWN COUCH?!
I'M NOT USED TO THIS
holy shit simon you're a joyless knobend aren't you lmao
Simon Brown the irony is T H I C C
Simon Brown TROLL. Not getting enough love from your mommy?
could you just shut the fuck up and stop replying to everybody's comments? you're so fucking annoying
6 minutes in and I'm dying at the thought of muscle-bound Leia xD
I made it 8 minutes into the video when i suddenly went "Hold on a minute...... The brown sofa........"
Proud to say I grew up spoiled in the early 2000s where all the action figures were mostly photorealistic to the movies
Ashens. I remember watching your videos from so long ago. I miss the days where i'd watch them 24/7 i'm sorry i left you. I'm back now buddy.
“I have altered the figures. Pray I don’t alter them further”
Fuck how many times does Stuart need to use this couch for Star Wars figures before people stop constantly asking "Where's the brown couch?" These vids aren't that rare...
SicParvisMagna123 *Stewart
Tristan Neal No his name is spelt Stuart.
13:10 Looks like Carl Weathers auditioning for Lando back in the 80s.
Most of these comments are whinging about the couch, but this couch has appeared before!
When he replaced Luke's hand with the lightsaber, all I could think of was Cyberpunk 2077.
I like how even the song in the intro is bootleg as fuck xD
Stuart has used is it in most, if not all, of his Star Wars content.
Especially the vids of bootlegs, e.g. "Episope 2 Intro".
man, I had all of these. This is really taking me back
all these moronic sofa comments. did anyone actually watch the video? it even said the office sofa in the opening crawl. he always uses this one with alec
I have the Luke, Stormtrooper, pilot Luke, sandtrooper, and numerous others of this collection, all of them hand-me-downs from my older siblings. I never realized the other characters looked so grotesque. lol
