- Toy Story 4 is an interesting film to look back on, as it many people have strong opinions on it. With the premise of Toy Story 5 having been officially announced, now more than ever is a good time to talk about Toy Story 4. In this video, I analyze the reception of Toy Story 4 five years later!

I really enjoy toy story 4 alot and if i can be honest i dont think it would have mattered whatever toy story 4 could have been theres a whole generation that Grew up and apart leaving 3 as the end for theyre era and now theres a generation defending 4 and there will be another on 5 this is what toy story is sorta known for now
Yeah Toy Story 4 was great but my only concern with is that the Toy Story franchise is associated with basically perfection, so by going beyond two great ending points (3 & 4) Toy Story 5 risks tarnishing decades long of rare franchise perfection for no reason at all 🤷🏾♂️

I feel like Toy Story 4 is overhated, Toy Story 5 is unnecessary to me though

I don’t, I’ve seen that channel that made several hours worth of how Toy Story 4 destroys the franchise so I’m convinced it sucks. I want to be on the same boat as you and say it’s overhated but I feel like it’s objectively the opposite.
Glad you think it’s overhated and that it’s not a complete failure though I still wish it ended at the third movie and we definitely don’t need a fifth one.

Finding the positives in Toy Story 4 but disparaging the Cars trilogy as just "movies that makes easy money" is really ironic
I mean, Cars 3 is easily the most underrated Pixar movie because these pseudo-critics sum it up as "just made for merchandising"
There are certainly critics who say that about the entire cars trilogy, not me though. I enjoy cars 1 and 3.
However, I do think it’s entirely reasonable for someone to view Cars 2 as “made for merchandising”. Up to that point, Pixar only made sequels for the Toy Story trilogy, and their first non-TS sequel just happened to be for their worst reviewed movie but most profitable merchandising franchise, along with the fact that Cars 2’s genre heavily deviated from the original in a manner that just happened to lend itself extremely well to flashier toys.
But I can see why some people like cars 2 and others consider ts4 a cash grab
For me personally, Toy Story 4 suffers from what Schfrillas calls "Phantom Menacing" where a movie comes out and people tried so hard to believe that it was a good movie, but over time, they began noticing the numerous flaws in the film and now they deem it not quite as good as they thought.
Honestly, I'll take the original trilogy over 4 and whatever 5 might end up being.
Yeah I first heard the term “Phantom Menacing” from Chris Stuckmann. But I do think Toy Story 4 suffered that a good bit.

It can depend on the person, but the Spilling the Milk channel did directly say that they thougt it was not that good.

I’m not a fan of Illumination but oh boy does it bring me joy in knowing The Super Mario Bros. Movie topped that POS Lion King live action remake. To EVERYONE reading this comment. Go watch Sonic 3 multiple times if possible. Don’t waste money on the trash Mufasa movie.

I watched about 3 1/2 hours of it and I think he made some fair points, but I think the video got very nitpicky and repetitive, plus some things that I would counter-argue such as his take on Forky’s sentience.
But in general it’s an impressive degree of attention to detail
