    How did you get the filler hoses hooked back up once you put it back in?

  • @darrylt1031
    @darrylt1031 4 роки тому +1

    they make a special tool to disconnect those fuel lines....they work great, and they're cheap as toast, too......

    The fuel neck filler hoses are not easy to take off. I ended up removing the 3 bolts that hold the steel neck on. 7mm or 8mm, I forget. Right at the fuel cap port.

      It's been a while since I shot this video and I still remember wrestling them hoses! Thanks for your input! 👍

      I was wondering why no videos shows removing the bolts. I thought it might be easier…

    Cant you cut a hole in the trunk floor board from above to access the top of tank and pump and then just reseal it up ? Seems like a lot less work.

  • @gunstrucksandfootbal
    @gunstrucksandfootbal 6 років тому

    Why didnt you just jack up the middle of the axle and then put the jack stands under both sides of the axle?

    • @FredFlintstone21
      @FredFlintstone21  6 років тому +1

      gunstrucksandfootbal
      Jacking up a vehicle on the differential case is putting stress on the axle that the axle is not designed to take.

    I am about to do this tank drop down , changing of the rear springs as well.. it looks like you have new cab mounts as well ? Did you do those yourself ?

    • @FredFlintstone21
      @FredFlintstone21  5 років тому

      Its possible the previous owner did it, I didnt (yet anyways). Are you going with f250 rear springs? (Rather than softer excursion) i just replaced my shocks with bilsteins. I'm pretty happy with em so far.

    • @Macmathews1
      @Macmathews1 5 років тому +1

      @@FredFlintstone21 Springs from Junior @ ATS (they are F250 new) and removing the overload (Very bottom plate) and adding Airbags for towing, should give the best of both worlds of soft ride and still able to handle some rearward weight.

      Sounds like a plan to me! Are you going with a compressor or Schrader valve for your air bags?

    • @Macmathews1
      @Macmathews1 5 років тому +1

      @@FredFlintstone21 - Just a valve for the airbags.. I don't want the extra cost.. I have no issue adjusting when needed with a compressor.

    So I took the filler neck off first and that seems easier than trying to fight it.

    I can't believe how much room you have above the tank for line removal. That's where I'm stuck at the moment.

      FredFlintstone21 I finally got the tank out but had to cut the tubing on the smaller fill line because the hose clamp was rusted and the screw side was pointed up. I'm replacing the hitch. This is the biggest pain in the ass ever.

    nice video. why did you have to pull the tank?

    • @FredFlintstone21
      @FredFlintstone21  6 років тому +1

      M Breckwoldt
      I pulled it to prep the area for Por15 rust preventative paint. Also pulled the screens in the tank, and instead went with a racer fuel filter/water separator. That way I can visually see the condition of the fuel, and easily change the pre pump filter, rather than pull the fuel tank to do it. I pulled about 4 gallons of dirt road dirt from around the fuel tank in the process.

    • @mbreckwoldt9813

      Ford should have dipped these things in POR before leaving the factory because the POS Chinese steel they use rusts as soon as they leave the dealership. My hitch is rotted and of course the poor engineering and design forces you to remove the tank. BTW, make sure you keep an eye on your oil pan. They rust real bad and fast. Replacement is $1500 labor. Ford also used cheap steel on their brake lines which is a safety item. I spray my oil pan with wd40 at every oil change. I blew out 2 rusty brake lines. Lucky it happened in the back yard and not on the hwy while towing

    • @FredFlintstone21
      @FredFlintstone21  6 років тому +1

      M Breckwoldt
      I've seen videos on the oil pan swap, and know a couple guys that have done it. This rig is rust free, and I dont drive it in the winter so it'll stay good. I had a 93 ford f250 diesel that had terrible rust underneath. I've done my fair share of brake lines too. I put stainless on my 68 charger, which is pointless in a way, since I dont drive it in the winter

    • @mbreckwoldt9813
      @mbreckwoldt9813 6 років тому +1

      I live in the NE so 16 winters have done their share of damage to my Excursion and my Suburban. IF I may ask why don't you drive it in the winter? Do you have a beater you use?

    • @FredFlintstone21
      @FredFlintstone21  6 років тому

      M Breckwoldt
      Good question! I tell people winter is what toyotas are for! I know the ex would plow thru snow with ease, but then she'd eventually get bit by the rust bug. Same for that old 81 rabbit diesel I took around in. Perfect A to B car, drive 70 miles a day, throw it on the rust free rabbit in the summers. I get a few smiles and some chuckles, but I dont care, I'm not out on the roads to impress people, and I like the car. I got the excursion for occasional drives, and pulling my trailer, which I haul my tractor and charger around, and other odd ball stuff here and there.
