    My 2000 7.3 with 450,000 stranded me for the first time in 24 years yesterday. It's the fuel pump. This will be the first replacement of this pump. I bought this truck brand new in 2000.
    This video really made clear the steps to replace this pump. Thanks much

    We had the same issue with our '99 F-450.
    There are two small filters inside the inlet side of the stock pump. TOTALLY clogged, burnt out the pump.
    But why?
    Dropped the tank and found that the plating on the inside of the tank was coming off in sheets.
    This is a common problem with chassis cabs of this vintage.
    We removed the pickup filter and replaced it with a screen after cleaning out the tank.
    We installed a Raycor filter right before the pump.
    Replaced the pump.
    The Raycor filter does such a GREAT job that the fuel filter in the engine bay stays spotless.
    But most important; the low pressure pump is protected from debris.
    245,000 miles and runs like a top!

    Okay....now I'm beyond convinced. If that little Noco GB150 will boost a 7.3 with two dead batteries, and provide enough juice to start it, then we know that it's up to the task 100%. My wife now wants to buy one to keep in her car. I'm just trying to figure out when she will ever need it.

    Great video. My 2000 F450 mason dump had this issue. I'm the original owner with 160K miles. Unfortunately pump died right after filling dump with busted up concrete. We had to unload for tow truck. Ugh!
    I would have replaced myself, but not on a busy road on my back. Plus, I did not have the special fuel line tool.
    I replaced the fuel tank with sender as others mentioned rusted tank.
    Most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. Barely broken in with 160K. Love this truck.

    Just a baby at 107k! I regularly see 300k + before failure, typically. I replaced mine at 270 and some change, and installed dual AEM 50-1005's. In tank sump, 1/2 " line. I also did the harpoon mod, so I can fill the tank all the way without having to trickle the last 5 gallons in. Pressure is set to 60psi with custom spring. Runs hard for a truck with stock injectors and tunes! Gonna be time for some 238/80's or 100's here soon! Gotta stop spending $ on audio equipment! 🤣

    I called my local mechanic and the have it now.
    Also, I noticed while I was trying to start the truck, the "wait to start" light no longer comes on.
    Is this related or a separate problem?

    Love your content Arod. As far as I know my low pressure pump is original from date of manufacture (5/99). (319,000 miles). Was told the truck will run for weeks month or even years with low pressure but damages the high pressure pump. Any truth to that ? Should I swap my low pressure pump out for added insurance to alleviate future more costly issues ??

    sooo if the bowl were to fill up then the fuel pumps would be ok, then would that mean that that would have to be an injector issue, and if they were just replaced could that be a oil pump issue causing low oil pressure causing the injectors to not work?

  • @notajp
    @notajp 3 роки тому +1

    Our 03 E450 starts right off if you start it every day or two. Don’t even need to wait for the glow plugs. But if it sits for more than a couple of days, it takes quite a bit of cranking before it will start. But it runs fine when it does start. No rough running or anything like that. It acts like it’s losing prime. I’m wondering if this might be the issue. Oil is full, and batteries are good. Cranks over easily all the time. No money light.

  • @michaelabbey6073
    @michaelabbey6073 3 роки тому +4

    In my experience it’s always something more than the pump causing the low fuel pressure on 7.3s. A lot of times it’s the screens clogged with rust or flakes from tank coming apart. Or bottom screen breaks apart clogging sending unit.

    I have an issue with my 2002 7.3 F350 a way i can explain is like something is draining my battery . When i turn on it would randomly shut off in couple of mins . One time it turned on fine and idle for 15mins then I connected my radio and slowly lower my window then it shut off completely battery 100% dead which is confusing to me . It would recharge again don’t know what might be an electrical issue or not sure.

I know its a fuel delivery issue because my neighbor and I opened the air filter a little and sprayed some starter fluid.The truck ran for a good 15 minutes was able to get it back up my driveway. The truck died on me while backing out of my driveway blocking the entire street. Will change the fuel pump soon already installed a new filter for the fuel bowl. if that does not work I am going to have to drop the tank to clean or replace the filters.

I have a fuel issue on my 7.3 it’s a 2000 was running great then out of nowhere on the road it defueled and died I thought it’s cause I ran it to low was at about a 1/4 tank tried the Icp sensor only because I threw a code for it that didn’t work I checked the crank position sensor it’s good checked my fuel filter in the bowl it was good finally got it in for a diag was told it was the pump so I got a pump but didn’t use an oem pump I got it at Orielys I changed it and still had the same issue it did actually manage to start with that pump but ran rough then died and wouldn’t start again so I thought maybe it was a faulty pump traded it for a new one under warranty still nothing so I checked the tank for the screen and pickup screen the tank doesn’t have the coating on the inside so the tank was surprisingly clean but the pickup screen was broken off so I replace that as well as the two small screens and still no luck I have checked everything I can think I took the fuel line off the bowl and just held it in a water bottle and turned the key and I just felt like it wasn’t l flowing fast enough but I don’t have a gauge to test the pressure and ideas or held would be appreciated really trying to avoid having to take it back and get screwed in another diag fee
