A customer to Safelite is the one who pays Safelite directly. If it’s the insurance company paying, then it’s the insurance company that is the customer, and the owner of the vehicle is the insurance company’s customer. If the owner of the vehicle is paying Safelite, the owner of the vehicle is Safelite’s customer. Safelite has a Lifetime Warranty for their workmanship. So Scotty, please reach out to the owner of this Lexus IS250 and let them know to bring it back to Safelite to correct those side trims? Feel free to reach out to me, as I’ve been with the company for years. As honest as you’ve been, and with the best intentions to help others. Please let me help you help others too. Golden Rule Brothers, have gotta stick together. 😉
The problem with removing the beauty cover and tossing it is that you've completely exposed the top, including all of the wiring connectors that you want to keep water from splashing into (or other liquids). injector connectors, coil connectors, etc. That was the original purpose of them. Now, SOME are meant to just make it look 'cleaner' (One truck in which I was hunting for a coolant leak had at least five beauty covers over everything). The Vibe/Matrix, at least 03-08, just have a cap to cover the valve cover and wiring.
@@richsweeney1115 - It's not that simple. Yes, up through the 1970's the same engineers would design the body, the suspension, the engine, and so forth. Now, an engineering team is tasked with designing an engine to fit in such-and-such volume with so-and-so specifications. They have no control over how it fits into an engine compartment. A different group designs the body, another suspension, etc - and they don't talk to each other. They're not allowed to. For the 'water getting into connectors'? That's always been an issue, and it's not with the engine designers. It's with what it would take to make the connectors themselves water resistant. Beauty covers? The original ones made some sense. They were protection. Now, there's someone out there doing designs on 'how to make the engine compartment look pretty, where people don't have to look at all the spinning bits. Or even someone from OSHA saying that the compartments are unsafe for owners.
As far as insurance companies go, get AMICA. They've been rated #1 for decades. I can attest that amica home and auto are incredible. I've had many friends that changed over to amica from other companies.
Agreed, Used them for nearly a decade, until the rates started rising. Whenever that happens (for no good reason) it’s always prudent to shop around. I found a good savings of several hundred dollars with AutoOwners here in Michigan. Ironically I’d already decided to pull the trigger when I lost my cherry black 91’ BMW M5 (128k) in 2013 to a winter-storage pole barn collapse! AMICA gave me a good chunk for it then I dropped them. Honestly I felt bad it worked out that way, but they’ve never been able to beat my rates from AutoOwners to this day. Following my loss I decided my 17 yrs. of owning a garage queen automobile were over. I took the cash from the settlement and bought a fun performance sedan I can even drive during the winter : ) My 2014 Taurus SHO (Tuxedo black) now has close to 85k and still no major expenses except tires. Lovin it! Was playing the AC/DC song “Back in Black” daily for a month or so after getting it. ; )
Replaced my 2009 Pathfinder and 2010 G37 with all 4 KYB shocks/struts in the last month. Very happy. No strut assemblies for the G37x by KYB though.....paid a mechanic to deal with the springs, not for me.......shame on you KYB
gimmy a break all 4 strokes use oil, when the piston goes down, the rings leave some oil on the cylinder wall, it gets burned off , and when the piston goes up , it lubes the cylinder walls, so have have to check your oil, blow by will dilute your oil.
I got a 2005 chevy malibu, I've been trying to change the coolant fluid but can't find the drain plug. So far had 2 people look for it but couldn't find it.
Hey Scotty, if you where selected to work with engineers to produce the next reliable, fuel efficient, low cost car or SUV for the future, what recommendations would you suggest?
It is all a matter of perspective. When a Lexus or Toyota has a few trouble codes, Scotty says “that is nothing.” If it was a Mercedes or BMW with a few trouble codes, Scotty says “this car is a pile of junk.”
Scotty, I have the same car but a 2007 IS250 RWD with 102k miles on it. My car had the same issue as his but I bought new high quality Bridgestone RE980AS tires and an alignment and that fixed the issue of the wallow and strangeness. To fix the front tire wear you need to replace the front lower control arm bushings to stiffer ones, there are many out there but I purchased Figs Engineering 90 Durometer LcA bushings and its perfect.
I had this issue with my 2008 Lexus IS250. I changed the entire suspension. All 4 wheels have brand new suspension components on them. Now I don’t have any of these issues.
Definitely do not use safelite I had them change a rear window in my scion tc it leaks its not out on correctly. I had a tree branch fall and break it and my sunroof. I found a sunroof at a junk yard and replaced all of it myself no issues. I couldn't do the back glass though so I had safelite so it. Never again
Hey Scotty: any suggestions on companies to get a chipped windshield fixed? I know you were just trashing Safelite for their replacement work, but what about chips?
Haha 😂 the worse is when somebody drives your car. They hit a curb, bend your rim. And when you get back your car, you got a slow wobble. New rim, balance , align $200.00 plus to fix it. Everybody no’s the slow wobble
So, who would do a better job than Safelite? I had a windshield replaced back in 2014 by Safelite and it looked like they did a good job. It hasn't fallen out yet. If there is someone "better" and my insurance will cover it then I'll consider someone else.
my dad is tough on cars his first was a 79 Toyota Corolla station wagon purchased New on his 19th birthday Nov 30th 1978 though that car lasted until 1986. cars well cared for can last for a decade or more my late grandmothers 05 Toyota Camry only has about 25K miles on it granted she didn't drive as much as she got older
Yo Scotty I have a 2013 Lexus ES350, and on the right rear suspension arm there's an electromechanical rocker switch back there. Any idea what that is for?
A teenage boy can destroy your brand new car in a trip up to and back from your local conveniance store and you won't know it until you crank it up the next day. All it takes is a kid who watched auto racing his whole life to hop in your car and full throttle and stomp brake it all the way to and from the store. When you hop into your brand new car and you smell the brakes and the brake pedal goes to the floor and then the engine, which sounded great yesterday, today sounds like a ford diesel engine cranking up on a cold winter day, just remember , you made the mistake and what you are listening to is many many thousands of dollars of repair. Enjoy making your car payment.
I’m a Big Lexus guy. I have the same car, to anyone that thinks “it’s just a is250 it has no power” Hasn’t driven my car. Sure it’s no rocket but super fun to drive no doubt and zippy enough
I have this car,the bsttery always goes dead after a couple a days, even with a brand new battery.Mechanic charged $600.ssid it was a aftermsrket security system, but yet i still hsve the same problem still.Other than that it is a great car.
Is it true the lexus v6 sedan engines you have to take the entire intake manifold out to reach the back coils and spark plugs??? Even for toyota that's german level engineering "lets inconvenience the mechanics as much as possible " design. Lol cram it all in!!!! Lolol
Not true. I changed all the spark plugs on a Lexus transverse mounted 2GR V6 without taking out the intake manifold. After a few hours of struggling, a bunch of scratches on my arm, and a few dozen curse words, I managed to get it done.
You can do the job taking the windshield tray out...transverse mounted v6 engines are notoriously tough to work on in general. On my old Rav4 with v6 I got job down to like 40 mins after several times...so wasnt that bad.
Scotty I want to replace the shocks on my rav 4 SE and all the aftermarket shocks don’t differentiate between the SE model only the original Toyota parts are different. So Bilstien for Instant says their shocks will fit all model rav 4 in 2017.. I actually wouldn’t mind going a little softer because it’s over damping will my springs still be okay if I do?
Hey Scotty any idea why after installing new fuel pump car doesn’t start when fuel is on low? Before when the original pump it would start, bad installation maybe or cheap part?
Turn the key into the on position and see if you can hear the fuel pump, it will have a little whine or electric sound to it. You could also have someone else turn the key while you listen. If it starts when it is full on fuel, then you might even have the wrong part and it could be too short, or just a bad part.
@@FritzMadness when you exchanged the parts did you compare the old and the new to make sure they were the same? You could also check the part number at a dealership or something
Hey I have a stuck clutch. I haven't driven my truck around because I need to repair other things. How can I get it unstuck without taking it apart and make sure it doesn't get stuck again? There's a cover on the flywheel and clutch I can easily take off. If it matters it's a 51 Chevy 3100, it has the original engine, and original transmission. It's in very good shape so it doesn't need to be replaced.
Look for the slave cylinder maybe being extended, rusty, stuck. Hit the fork with a hammer or rock to get the cylinder's piston moving back into the slave cylinder.
@@jeffgadget5350 I think it does because I don't see any hydraulic lines. GMC introduced the hydraulic clutch around 1986. When I drive it around (with a working clutch) it works just fine, but if I let it sit for too long it gets stuck. I used to start it up once a week but there was a bad oil leak. My friend fixed the clutch for me once with a screwdriver but I want a long lasting repair, not some quick fix that won't last. It's only sat for maybe 3 months now.
Find yourself a great local glass guy. Keep the money in the community. Don’t listen to your insurance company, you DON’T have to listen to them where to get your windshield replaced. They will pay the bill no matter where you go. Don’t let them bully you around
On high performance car, or any car only replace front suspension parts and leave very old ones at the rear because they are still okish? Wonder what that would to do the handling and balance of a car.
The IS 250 is anything but performance vehicle with a wimpy 204 hp V6. Scotty is a cheapster and content with promoting mediocrity. Replacing only front struts is very much a trailer park approach as rears are likely worn and not far behind in the ready for garbage department. If you can't afford to maintain a luxury car in like new functional condition then you shouldn't buy one in the first place. There are a lot of posers out there pretending they are more affluent than they really are by purchasing well-aged luxury cars and who in truth cant afford to maintain them in reasonable condition. May as well buy a newer near equivalent Toyota for same or less money and less near-term maintenance costs. Truth be told Lexus is Toyota testbed for newer technology. So as consumer you are likely paying high premium for 1st gen version of tech that you get later in Toyota but much improved. Perfect example is direct injection engine in this IS250. The 3.5L V6 used in Camry, Avalon, and other models now have port injection as well to address valve carbon issues and also provide 100 more hp. Hell my nearly 5000lb, 2018 4runner could beat this IS 250 0-60. 🤣🤣🤣
Always tell Scotty, your doctor and your dentist the truth. They know anyway that you did something stupid to your car, or if you drink, smoke and don’t ear right and if you don’t floss regularly. 🤷♂️😏
In New Zealand I had trouble with windscreen replacement too. They struggled to get it right on a Jeep and a BMW. Glue all over the place. On the BMW didnt refit trim correctly. If your insurance allows get a dealer to refit the screen. They will do it right. Generally.

Feel free to reach out to me, as I’ve been with the company for years. As honest as you’ve been, and with the best intentions to help others. Please let me help you help others too. Golden Rule Brothers, have gotta stick together. 😉
Consider "TCP" when evaluating a tire: Tread, Condition, Pressure.
More like age of tyre, thread then pressure
The problem with removing the beauty cover and tossing it is that you've completely exposed the top, including all of the wiring connectors that you want to keep water from splashing into (or other liquids). injector connectors, coil connectors, etc. That was the original purpose of them. Now, SOME are meant to just make it look 'cleaner' (One truck in which I was hunting for a coolant leak had at least five beauty covers over everything). The Vibe/Matrix, at least 03-08, just have a cap to cover the valve cover and wiring.
They shouldn't design the motors how they do..
Girlfriend: Gonna let me drive your car?
Me: *J.K Simmons laugh* 😆🤣 lol
As far as insurance companies go, get AMICA. They've been rated #1 for decades. I can attest that amica home and auto are incredible. I've had many friends that changed over to amica from other companies.
Rhode Island based company. Seek no further for insurance needs.
Lovin it! Was playing the AC/DC song “Back in Black” daily for a month or so after getting it. ; )
Safelite did my rear windshield in my Neon, does not leak, but they did not use an OEM seal. Looks like crap.
Thank you Scotty. That was very useful and informative
I know that two different tire brands on a BMW will trip codes and fail to run ....
Unsurprising
I'm surprised you didn't check the tire pressure first, Scotty.
I'm pretty sure he knew the problem wasn't low tires. Lol
KYB Am Glad u mentioned those we have them here in Zambia yaaay.
Spot on diagnosis Scotty, experiences and skills goes hand in hand.
Scotty you are a legend! I’ve been watching your videos for years! I learn a lot from you, thank you sir!
Lol😅🤣😂 "Even if you hit the curb, just lie and say your sister hit the curb" Scotty, you the best!
I got a 2005 chevy malibu, I've been trying to change the coolant fluid but can't find the drain plug. So far had 2 people look for it but couldn't find it.
Chevs are all class 👌
Been waiting on another is250 video Scotty !
Scotty you're the man!
Thank you Scotty for this video!
Hey Scotty, if you where selected to work with engineers to produce the next reliable, fuel efficient, low cost car or SUV for the future, what recommendations would you suggest?
Wow Scotty, i thought Toyota cars were always perfect and never get broken, live and learn Scotty.
Scotty has said you have to maintain them, and besides, Toyota isn't perfect.
He's never said that. Even Hondas and Toyotas break sometimes
It is all a matter of perspective. When a Lexus or Toyota has a few trouble codes, Scotty says “that is nothing.” If it was a Mercedes or BMW with a few trouble codes, Scotty says “this car is a pile of junk.”
Scotty with the song and dance lol..."safe lite we treat you right "
Scotty, I have the same car but a 2007 IS250 RWD with 102k miles on it.
So different tread patterns like a set of v pattern tires on the rear and a set of street tires on the front is prolly really bad on a awd
I have a 2011 Mazda 3 replace the struts with KYB very exact same problem you're describing
Don’t let my mom see this video lol I want to drive her new F-150 lol
I had this issue with my 2008 Lexus IS250. I changed the entire suspension. All 4 wheels have brand new suspension components on them. Now I don’t have any of these issues.
Scotty, did you check the lower control arms, ball joints, tie-rod ends and sway bar links as well?
I'm sure he did.
If he wants decent handling, i would put 4 new shocks and better tires. General brand are cheepy.
It feels like I've known you my whole life Scotty! Ur amazing!!!
Haha 😂 the worse is when somebody drives your car. They hit a curb, bend your rim. And when you get back your car, you got a slow wobble. New rim, balance , align $200.00 plus to fix it. Everybody no’s the slow wobble
No's??
There's a Safelite right around the corner from me and they did a pretty good job on my 2004 Nissan Maxima fixing a small crack on it.
Have the same car and i put KYB's in mine. Good shocks.
Thank you for the video
My OCD is yelling that I'd put the mismatched tire on the back. It could be wrong though....
When you hop into your brand new car and you smell the brakes and the brake pedal goes to the floor and then the engine,
which sounded great yesterday,
today sounds like a ford diesel engine cranking up on a cold winter day,
just remember ,
you made the mistake
and what you are listening to is many many thousands of dollars of repair.
Enjoy making your car payment.
Any car that would be ruined from being beaten one time is a shitbox anyways
I’m a Big Lexus guy.
I have the same car, to anyone that thinks “it’s just a is250 it has no power”
Hasn’t driven my car. Sure it’s no rocket but super fun to drive no doubt and zippy enough
I want to see the Gixxer!
Dont lend your car to your sister , Scotty always has the best advice .
But my sister is a good driver though. And faster than me, her brother 😂
I have this car,the bsttery always goes dead after a couple a days, even with a brand new battery.Mechanic charged $600.ssid it was a aftermsrket security system, but yet i still hsve the same problem still.Other than that it is a great car.
Scotty's in a garage!!!!!
Don't I know, it happened "once" and never again, I'm the "only" one that drives my vehicles now. Lesson Learned. :) NC
OK, you said Safelite sucks, so what is a good windshield repair company?
Looking at those struts, they appear to be leaking. Oily residue on them
I feel like one family owning just 1 or 2 cars is gonna be a lot more common in the coming years
I mean, do people REALLY need 5 or 6 cars? 2 for a average family is more than enough
Scotty’s laugh should be a ring tone .
@@little123456788 it took you a few hours though didnt it?
@@SEVEN_DUCK Yes it took 2-3 hours but it was well worth it. Didn't have to pay a mechanic $600 or risk messing up the intake manifold and gasket.
Thank you Scotty
Scotty, I have a 2018 Toyota CHR, how often do you recommend for me to change its transmission fluid?
I live in Rhode Island, how do I make an appointment to show Scotty my vehicle?
Welcome back to Rhody Scotty.
I wouldn't let anyone drive my blue 1994 Toyota Celica except for Mr. Scotty Kilmer.
My advice go aftermarket and get coilovers
@@sloughsharkseh3307 yeah I do that all the time, I’m starting to think it’s the wrong part or something
If that's it, obviously replace the slave.
A '51 Chevrolet truck with a hydraulic clutch actuator? I thought they just used the old bellcrank system.
Especially if their vehicle looks like the RV in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation movie LOL
Nice to have a sister to blame things on 😄
" Safe light we treat you right" ROFL
Got any opinions on Hondata or other ECU flashing options?
Hey Scotty is a good idea to put 0w-16 on a 0w-20 Honda Civic 2017 Si
Always tell Scotty, your doctor and your dentist the truth. They know anyway that you did something stupid to your car, or if you drink, smoke and don’t ear right and if you don’t floss regularly. 🤷♂️😏
In New Zealand I had trouble with windscreen replacement too. They struggled to get it right on a Jeep and a BMW. Glue all over the place. On the BMW didnt refit trim correctly. If your insurance allows get a dealer to refit the screen. They will do it right. Generally.
Anyone knows the parts numbers for these struts? I am having the same issue on my RWD 2010 IS250
