Still makes me laugh out loud and I've seen these sketches many times and saw them when they first aired. Best film spoofs ever done. Even demanding New Yorker film critic Pauline Kael thought so (she esp. loved "Rancid Harvest.")
@@MaxOaklandYea, you’re right, Carol and others from her crew are still alive and there are indeed other super talented actors and actresses from her generation alive today and others who came along later still making us laugh.
This was always one of my favorites. Carol was sensational at doing Bette Davis (and Crawford) and this wacky plot is not at all too far removed from the movie itself. LOL. It always gets me when she imitates the fog horn. "PAT-sy." Bwahaha. Harvey brilliant as always. "How smutty," is one of the great lines ever. Perfect in every way.
This reminds of Bette Davies movie, " Dead Ringer " which I am watching right now! 😂 where she plays twins, one rich and one poor. A great !! movie. Pretty much anything Bette Davis, or Carroll Burnett, does, is a winner. 😍😍😍😍 Two of my favorites .❤❤❤
This skit may be my first memory of The Carol Burnett Show, watching on Saturday night on CBS. What brilliance! Thank you for posting, always love me some Carol 🤍🤍🤍
It sounds like this skit is a comic spoof of A Stolen Life (1946). In this film, Bette Davis portrays twin sisters, Kate and Patricia Bosworth. After Patricia drowns in a boating accident, Kate assumes her sister's identity to be with Patricia's husband. Carol does a fantastic imitation of Bette Davis.
When I watch comedy. I always gravitate towards Carol and Lucy. I grew up watching them as a child and remember how much laughter it would bring to my mom. I barely hear my mom laugh now. I don’t want to say why but I’m believing and praying she will laugh again
I used to love watching these old movie spooks on her show. I was too young to understand the references but Rancid Harvest is probably my favorite. "Petah!"
Love it, Carol and Harvey and Vicki doing a Bette Davis movie and having a ball with it. Actually, "A Stolen Life" is a pretty good classic film and makes fine use of split screen cinema magic--- many years before Patty Duke or Liz Montgomery or Barbara Eden were playing lookalikes on TV film footage.
@@kallen868 Yes, with Karl Malden, Peter Lawford, Estelle Windwood, et al. I always enjoy Bette's dreadful rendition of _Shuffle Off to Buffalo_ when she is trying to fool Malden behind a door, pretending to sound like two sisters reminiscing. :D

Despite being the baby of the cast, Vicki always played great old ladies.

When I watched this show at 15 they looked old! Now I’m 62 I see how young and beautiful they are!
They still look old.
Same here
They don't look old
So right
Always LOVED Carol's take on Bette. Glorious!
I have been searching for this for years! Every time I meet anyone named Pat, this comes to mind: "Hi, Paaaaaattttt". :)
THE LIGHT HOUSE it talks to me it says HIIIII PAAAATTTSY HI PAAAATSY.....😂
Carol Burnett and her crew were genius comedians. This kind of quality is gone . So glad I was a kid to enjoy it and can still enjoy it today!

Oh, the good old canned laughter days😂
The Carol Burnett show was filmed in front of a live studio audience.
Yeah, that's not canned laughter; they're literally on a stage with set changes and costume changes and a live audience behind the camera.

You can very often hear individuals laughing on the show.
Live audience. Nothing canned about it. That’s when people actually had real talent. She always had a Q & A with the audience before every show.

So weird to hear the word "nerd" used so long ago.
Not really, it was coined by Dr. Suess in 1950.

It was used often on Happy Days right around the same time.
It was good until Tim Conway showed up! 🙄
