- The most beloved Pokémon can be the most difficult to redesign, but it's something special when you get it right. Let's have a look at The New 151 takes on Ditto; Eevee, Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon; and Porygon.

I feel like that porygon concept is much closer to an evolution than a redesign. The concept should've been "how would the modern style reflect that era of 3d programming" rather than "what would the concept be in modern times" because that makes it further from the 151 porygon that you're trying to replicate.
Now, future paradox porygon based on quantum computing? That I can get behind.
My favorite of the Eevee redesigns is Jolteon! But the Porygon redesign is INCREDIBLY OUTSTANDING!!
I hope to see you take on redesigning all the other eeveelutions one day.
I'll probably take on at least some of them sometime!
Best part of your Eevee was the 3 eye colors to hint at evolution potential ✨
My opinions;
I feel like redesigning Ditto is kinda just...unneeded? As a design its sorta just meant to be a primordial ooze from which anything can emerge. When you add a tail it makes picturing the ditto transforming a bit more difficult. Does it keep the tail since its pushed to be such an important aspect of the new ditto or?
I do like the mew eevee. Its fairly basic, but it works quite well- especially the coloured eyes.
New Vaporeon is fine as a design, but it feels like its missing what made vaporeon- vaporeon. Vaporeon gaining aspects of a fish for the water makes sense as fish are a majority of water types, and it seems like a form of convergent evolution. Its not bad- just feels more like it'd work as its own pokemon.
Jolteon is great. I do feel like the blue accents cause a slight bit of clutter, mainly on the neck & cheek area. Maybe add a bit of blue accent into either the legs or tail aswell? The cheetah inspiration is great though, and the lanky and fast bodyplan fits Jolteon wonderfully.
Same with Flareon. Turns it from what is essentially a red/orange fluffier eevee into its own design which im all for. Makes the mon kinda grow into its own niche
Porygon is...rough. It just doesnt look anything close to a Pokemon to me. Not in a Genwunner "Ew Vanilluxe doesnt look like a pokemon its just icecream" way- but rather a "This is inspired by concepts barely graspable by a vast majority of people" sorta way. I feel like i understand 4d objects and the tesseract decently well compared to most and yet i still have large amounts of trouble trying to understand exactly how such a design would be animated or work in motion. Just seems like way too many high-level & complicated inspirations all stuffed into one design that was previously as simple as just "Geometric Duck".
Sorry if this all came off as a bit harsh in some places
It's ok, I understand that my designs aren't everyone's cup of tea. It's part of why I don't really design fakemon anymore.
@@soogymoogi i will say that your more inspirationally complex designs such as this Porygon could work quite well as Ultra Beasts though- which is good cause UBs are some of my favourite Pokemon😅
The ditto tail is nice now that i thought back on it- i do think the only real problem i have with it is the complexity. I feel if the tail was made slightly more simple [less curls, possible thicker?] it would work with the very simplistic body of ditto.
Though please dont feel bad- this is coming from someone who isnt very well versed in art or character design and its just my personal tastes & opinions
@@betabee1221 hey, thanks man. I've been playing around with the idea of designing some UBs lately (as well as designing my own original creatures as well as Digimon) so I'll keep that in mind
That ditto is absolute perfection omg. That Jolteon and ditto’s also amazing ahh. Not sure how I feel on flareon as I loved its old fluff and shape, but yeah there’s definitely a more uniform trend with this set
Love the new intro! Excited for this new era! :D
HOLY SHIT THAT INTRO
was the roggenrola always there i love roggenrola
I really like all of these! Especially Jolteon and Vaporeon. Despite Vaporeon being my favorites, it having a fish like tail is odd.
On the one hand, I feel Porygon is a bit TOO different, like it loses something in the redesign. On the other, a polygon monster designed today is an inherently different beast to a polygon monster designed thirty years ago, so there really is no easy equivalent.
That said, the Eevee redesigns are perfect, I love the idea of making Vaporeon an otter.
I am actually working on a phylogeny of pokémon that proposes that there's actually some viruses in the pokémon world that are responsible for genetic exchange between people, humans, grass-types and ghost-types, which happened because of some cross-breeding between two ancestors of pokémon, one of which was an ancestor of ditto. This is perfect for that!
Incredible Porygon! I kind of want it to become a real evolution, aha
porygon looks amazing!! one of my favorites from this series for sure
I've been waiting patiently for the rest 😁🙏
love the new intro!!
Loving this intro!!
Somehow I knew you would comment on it 😄
what are you going to do when your done? will you do gen 2 redesigns? I would love to see this resigns series continue,so I would love it if you did the other gens to at some point in the future
Love the new intro.
I think porygon's design was changed too much to still be recognisable as the same pokémon.
I like the new intro and outro. The intro is still a bit long for a UA-cam intro, though.
I’ll admit, I’m not a fan of the redesigned Eevee, but that’s only bc I’m too attached to the original design. 😅 It definitely fits the modern design language, tho, and the colored eyes was a great choice. The eeveelutions were also really inspired, with all their design aspects perfectly suiting their respective element & the associations of that element. I guess Eevee was just too similar to the original design & fell into the uncanny valley for me. 😅
For Porygon, I’d like to see you do some (even Very rough) “action poses” that would indicate how it would move as a 3D model, and hopefully a 3D animator could bring those to life. -As someone who enjoyed the 4D-shaped Ramiel redesign (from Evangelion Rebuild films), I’d imagine the “wings” & “body”/cube morphing & changing shape & phasing in/out of existence as Porygon hovered & moved & attacked. It’d definitely give a lot of personality to such a complex ‘Mon!
Also, as another commenter mentioned, it might be nice to see “how would a depiction of 3D/digital modeling of the _EARLY_ days look like with modern art tools”. So instead of “a duck but boxy”, that kind of Porygon might be a “plasticy” or “glass-like” model that would essentially be a highly-detailed representation of a very crude 3D animation model (if that makes sense 😅).
the resesign for eevee isn't far off from the original, what a fake fan if you can't see that
@alolanraichu The head & face are much rounder & larger in proportion to the rest of the body. It’s not much, but it makes a big difference for such a simple design.
Also, “not too far off” is what makes it “uncanny”. The other redesigns are different enough from the originals that they can be seen as “distinct”; but Eevee is like looking at an Eevee with a Ditto face: too similar so you think “it should be familiar” but just different enough that the “offness”/“wrongness” stands out.
Not a massive fan of the new Vaporeon but I love to see your take on redesigns!
This Porygon is nuts 😍
Hey pessoal, vocês sabiam que em termos de redesigns dos Pokémons antigos, o Vaporeon ficou muito legal?
Oh não
did you know that in terms of eeveelution redesigns, vaporeons is the most cool
eevee is a weird lil critter
Eevee is perfect, but I absolutely cannot get behind the Eeveelutions. The gen 1 looks are too iconic to change too much of, and Flareon is a representation of that for me. Waaaay too canine, when it was it was originally the middles canine of them.
At the same time though, I know you could’ve kept it like that. You did something different because you had to change stuff. You couldn’t and wouldn’t make designs that just compete with the original, there’s just too much potential for adding the new elements into the designs more.
The one thing I would’ve suggested to do differently without changing your vision entirely though is to remove the blue on Jolteon. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good as is, but I’ve always viewed these guys as only embodying their color, so the blue just looks off. I don’t know what color it’d be changed to, maybe a black like the others or a white like the fluff originally, but it just doesn’t sit right.
I dislike the fishiness of official Vaporeon so much lol
This redesign fixes it for me by a lot.
Personally, I probably would've redesigned Eevee to seem a bit more girlish (like with Fennekin, Sprigatito, Vulpix, and Buneary), to better reflect how it could've evolved into some of the more effeminate-looking Eeveelutions like Espeon, Glaceon, and Sylveon, whilst still being not too girlish to the point where it'd be difficult to imagine it evolving into something more edgy, like, say, a Jolteon or Umbreon.
For this redesign, I'd have dropped the fluffy mane for more modest chest fluff, made the ears a bit more curved, like a crescent moon or a flowing bow, added tufts at the ear tips (like with spiky-eared Pichu), and perhaps even changed the eyes to be less like black voids (like with Pikachu) and more like anime-looking eyes with defined irises (like with Fennekin or Sprigatito).
As for Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon, the only thing that I would've changed about them would've been to change their facial features to be more... cool-looking for lack of a better term, such as, say, giving them similar eyes and facial features to Quilava or Lucario. (Edit: Shaymin's Sky Forme is another inspiration.)
Edit: I would've probably also redesigned the Eeveelutions to use the more modern Eeveelutions, especially Umbreon, Glaceon, and Espeon, as a basis for their basic body proportions, to then branch off of as needed (such as the shorter legs for an otter-inspired Vaporeon redesign for example). IMO, Umbreon just had the perfect base body type for any speculative Eeveelution to have, including a Normal-Type Eeveelution.
