i found your channel through your video about Ugly and ive honestly really enjoyed your videos so far, ive also been looking for a horror game without jumpscares since horror is a genre i love a lot but that im too much of wimp to actually experience, it seems like a great game that ill probably check out :)
It's always tough to find good horror that doesn't rely on jump scares. Fear the Spotlight is an excellent 'entry level' horror game. But I find the horror genre of games is a bit like a roller coaster. Getting on is the scariest part. Once you get over the first hurtle it starts to become fun. As to jump scares, they actually get old after you've seen a few. And you get good at predicting them. Which, really, is a great reason why they should be done away with.
Holy crap, right off the bat the amount of parallels to Phantom of the Opera (book/musical) is insane. The fire in the opera house and the fire in the school, "Krissy" Trying out for the role of Christine, her falling for some one named Raoul (same name as Christine's love interest), Heather being sabotaged is word for word what basically happens to Carlota (secondary PTO antagonist) This delights my video game and book/musical nerd brain. This is a modern retelling that stays true to the original themes of the story. Phantom was very much a horrific stalker and I appreciate this acknowledges that. He's been romanticized in current media as a "miss understood bad boy" and it sucks
I also think that the spotlight person is meant to be the stalker living beneath the school who caused the fire. You don't want to be seen or caught by a predator. Along side that, it also harkens to a theme from PTO of being seen. Phantom was never permitted to be seen, Christine was pulled into the public eye, and Raoul had to help Christine see the truth of her situation. It also reminds me of when Christine would do everything she could to avoid Phantom later in the book.
Oh yeah that was definitely the stalker. And it was full of symbolism of the dangers of being too seen. ...I say as I struggle to become famous on the internet.
After playing this I got my sister to play it as well and it was fun watching her piece together the story, I’m looking forward to when the updated version is released!
@@csidesummit they’re adding some new gameplay, along with things like extra languages and console support,I’ve hadn’t heard any news since then though.
Very well put together video, and it's made me quite interested in this game! I genuinely thought you had significantly more subscribers and views than you actually do, your videos are excellent. Have you seen the game Signalis, by the by? It seems like the sort of thing you would enjoy, based on what you said in this video's introduction at least.
I've definitely heard of it and it looks interesting. I'm keeping a list of viewer suggested games, though no idea when or if I'll be able to get to them. But Signalis is definitely on it!
@@csidesummit Ah, good to know! I will be eagerly awaiting your next video regardless of what you cover, I'm sure you can make just about anything interesting!
Mhhhhh. It doesn't sound bad, but I think the best Silent Hill likes need a flawed Protagonist. Someone who is socially isolated for one reason or another. Someone who may just be responsible for their own situation. Having friends takes away from the horror, it gives you allies and allies make humans stronger. That's also why dialogue in Silent Hill is so awkward, to give even more of a feeling of isolation. Nobody here truly understands you. You are alone. And being alone means being vulnerable.
While I agree that Silent Hill 2 is the objectively better game, it's also quite different from SH1. And for me, at least, I have a heavy bit of nostalgia for the original game that isn't matched by my time with the second. I liked Vivian well enough, and she doesn't get any actual help from anyone in the game. I'm also not entirely convinced the awkward dialogue in SH was intentional. This was the age of "Jill Sandwich" after all. It wasn't exactly the heyday of video game voice acting.

Thanks!
Goddamn, that Doom clip caught me off guard.
When I first watched that bit all put together I could not stop laughing at how stupid it was yet somehow seemed to work :D
