I've left this trail of poetry across UA-cam, pushed by the wind lashing in from the mighty Atlantic, and the muse has deposited me and my donkey Rainbow here
I always thought the same, until I found out it was written by an American and a Czech guy and first recorded by a Dutch guy... (René Shuman, who released it in 1986, and TBH, if it wasn't so 80s-sounding his version would also be pretty good)
It's correct. Although this song has a real Scottish flavor, Rene Shuman is the original singer. So Loch Lomond is the most distinctively Scottish song.
I had the amazing opportunity to meet Donnie at our family owned cafe and Deli called North Star, in Queen Margaret drive, in Glasgows West End. What a gentleman he was.Total legend.
This was the last song me and my dad listened to when he passed back in May this year...so much love! "Where the ocean meets the sky I'll be sailing" xo
i had the great honour of seeing the band play live at places like loch Lomond, hte barrowlands, royal concert hall Glasgow appollo theatre Manchester and Glasgow green and they never disappointed,a lot of so called chart stars could not play live like runrig could I was so gutted when Donnie munro left, I prey he will make an appearance for the farewell runrigs recently announced,be sad to see them call it a day but their music will go on for ever
I love Donnie and Runrig to bits. This version of the song is just brilliant, and I say that as someone who loves the Rod Stewart rendition too, but there is something about the Runrig treatment that takes it to another level. I never go a week without Runrig Mk 1 in the cd deck of my car.
a song so great it's been added to 3 of my playlists. all open to the public, please listen responsibly, ...that means watch it as you thrash around the room dancing and such...Thank You for putting something good on the wwweb.
Donnie you walked away from Runrig, I understand that, and some of your solo stuff is beautiful, it just is. However The McDonald brothers and YOU were a match made in heaven. History in the making.
Of course you're entitled to your personal opinion, but if you're talking about the Runrig version, it's sung with the Gael's innate sense of emotion...an emotive part of a song does not necessarily have to be the quietest, deep feeling can be stirring.....
my favourite version of this song. With so much feeling. I searched for the original, but it kind of felt dull and boring compared to this uplifting version, so much more feeling and emotiones in the performence.
Hi Liz, yes, I can understand and appreciate that. It's all a matter of taste. But for me (personally) there is a ten class difference. Bruce lacks the power of Munro completely. Besides that, he is not Scottish Me neither, but when I want to listen to a Scottish band that claims to be Scottish, they HAVE to be Scottish. It's like a J-POP band without a Japanese singer, it's no longer a J-POP band (and I love a few J-POP bands also).
thanks to Vodaphone only took 30 mins to listen to this bring back dial up, woops oh no BT have banned that, guess we just stuck up in the isles with .........
Absolute classic, scotlands best 🏴❤️
I've left this trail of poetry across UA-cam, pushed by the wind lashing in from the mighty Atlantic, and the muse has deposited me and my donkey Rainbow here
They were and still are one of the most musical and best material groups ever.. Life goes on Always a joy.
One of the most distinctively Scottish songs ever recorded. Runrig does it better than anyone.
I always thought the same, until I found out it was written by an American and a Czech guy and first recorded by a Dutch guy... (René Shuman, who released it in 1986, and TBH, if it wasn't so 80s-sounding his version would also be pretty good)
Really??? Will check on it.
It's correct. Although this song has a real Scottish flavor, Rene Shuman is the original singer. So Loch Lomond is the most distinctively Scottish song.
No one - and I mean no one (Rod Stewart) - does this song as good as Runrig! I love their version!

My meaning is that Bruce is as great and brilliant as Donnie, they both upper class!!!! 🤗
Sorry, totally disagree. Bruce is a moderate singer, Donnie is power.
