  • If you want a Jazzmaster with a certain look-that look being off-white/cream with an anodized pickguard-you've got choices. The main three are Fender Vintera ii '50s Jazzmaster, Squier 40th Anniversary Vintage Jazzmaster, or the Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster.
    Affiliate links:
    Fender Vintera ii '50s Jazzmaster: sweetwater.sjv.io/vinteraiija...
    Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster: sweetwater.sjv.io/jmjm
    You could go with the higher-end Fender Vintera ii '50s Jazzmaster, which is largely true to the '50s vintage vibe. You could save some money and choose the Squier 40th Anniversary Vintage Jazzmaster which has a fair amount of modern touches. Or, you could say "to hell with it, I'm here to be loud" and get the J Mascis Jazzmaster.
    So I asked my friend @nisebelle to come by and help me decide what the ultimate ruler of this JM aesthetic is. And all I can say is, at least one of us could play guitar that day, because I was worthless, dudes.

    I get the same vibe from some women pretending to be into warhammer, that you are larping, that you like pretending to be into guitars, not because of what the guitars actually mean to you, but rather how it means you are perceived in the sub-culture, as the cool guitar gurl, guitars become a means for attention.

    • @GetOffset
      @GetOffset  7 місяців тому +180

      Yeah I've been larping guitar since I was 8. Good god.
      Do you even think that women are real people, dude? Can you even imagine a woman doing something because she likes it and not to get guys?
      I suppose women are allowed to like guitarists but not guitars.

      Maybe you should analyse where these vibes come from? I mean you don’t sound like you’re giving your vibes and impulses much of a critical prod. I only know so much about the world but if I’m really honest this channel to me is less convoluted and hugely more inspiring than your comment. Referring to the original comment of this thread.
      Thank you, Emily, for being a musical beacon on the internet. Kind of like that cat in the neighbourhood that you always smile when you se, only not a cat nor a neighbourhood.

      Let me break this down to you real quick, I’ll use simple words so the incel vibes you’re giving out to the world can comprehend. I’ve seen you make rounds on several creator’s videos spewing the same crap over and over again. whatever low t toxic hole you’ve dug yourself into, keep it to yourself. If you have a critique to make about her playing, just remember how no one of value has ever asked you for your opinion. If you want to make a comment about her gender and speculate as to why she plays guitar, I ask you to once again remember how anything you’ve ever said has indeed been irrelevant. Never speak again on the internet, your opinion is not valued, not welcome, and irrelevant. If you’re in the United States, we must come together to amend the constitution to exclude you in the first amendment.

      I teach private guitar lessons and of all of my students I’ve had over the years my top students were all girls. The irony of your statement is that a good majority of boys who want to learn guitar do it because they want to be cool and get all of the girls.

    It is so refreshing to see a review where it’s not “which one is better” but “which one do you like more and why” and y’all pointing out where/how other people may prefer one you don’t. There are “crap” guitars, but serviceable ones really are a matter of preferences. PRS makes excellent quality guitars, I just don’t like them.
    I knew it was good when you nailed my opinion on glossy necks: I don’t like them when my hand sticks, which may or may not be the case. I think you’re the first person I’ve heard call out the input jack problem. It’s so real. I can’t even buy jacks as bad as they use on

    I got the same 40th anny Jazzmaster last year on a killer Black Friday deal.
    Liked it, but then proceeded to put major upgrades into it. Electronics, pickups, Descendant vibrato, Stay Trem bridge, some cosmetics. Now I love it!

  • @feinkevi
    @feinkevi 7 місяців тому +5

    Spot on. I’ll add that I think adding some more use of the trem and a closer look at the bridges would show a bigger difference between these three as well. The stock bridge and tailpiece on my JMJM made it totally unusable as it would pull out of tune instantly, swapping to a fender tailpiece and mustang bridge made a massive difference. The squier vintage tuners also feel like a big step down, and the neck radius is a preference thing that might push people towards one or the other, but all that said all three of these are great for what they are (and their price point) - thanks for the great comparison vid!

    That was fantastic - like hanging out with a couple friends (who can absolutely wail!). Love the sounds you brought out of those guitars. Sorry Emily you weren't able to play (hope the finger heals up soon) but have to say Nisbelle your playing was incredible!
    I really liked how you brought out the J Mascis (the vaunted JMJM) at the end and confirmed that it's really a totally different beast than a traditional jazzmaster.
    I really love my Classic Vibe JM - question I'm working through is whether to save/trade my way up to the V2 or to upgrade the pups and trem and call it a day :). No wrong answer and in the mean time it's my #1.

    That Squier is really more suited to be paired against the Vintera Jazzmaster verse the Vintera II. Pups in Squier are 60's voiced and the Vintera II has the 50's voiced and it's gonna make them instantly a different flavor and not indicative of which to get or what to expect from Squier vs Fender.

    Really great video you two! I enjoyed that so much! I've had a J Mascis JM for a few years and love it. I really did want something that was closer to a traditional JM but still felt good like my JMJM. I was thinking of buying a second one and doing a pickup swap, when I saw the 40th anniversary squire go in sale about a month ago for $250. I figured it was worth a shot. And it is fantastic! I'm so glad to have it. Thanks for doing this comparison. You can hear the refinements in the sounds of the Fender over the squire however, I really liked the neck sounds on the Squire better on both lead and rhythm circuits. I'm curious what it would sound like to switch out the bridge pickup on the squire with fender? I also like the matte finish better. For the price difference I'll stick with the squire. Super fun video to watch! And Nisbelle always looks so happy when she's playing, it's a beautiful thing to see that kind of joy.

    Cool review vid. ProAudioStar had some bonkers Squier blowouts over the past year or so. Copped the 40th Anv JM in LPB with the neck binding and block inlays for like $300. Before that, with a tax return one of their blowout sales allowed me to outfit my band with all 3 of the "skyburst metallic" Contemporary Series models for like half retail, now we look super profesh for the 2 or 3 gigs a year we play 🤣

    Pro Audio Star are super cheeky, they circumvent MAP laws by exploiting the "open box" factor - as soon as they open the box, they're free to sell the guitar for whatever they want to, rather than the MAP set by the manufacturer. Here in the UK, we don't have those MAP laws, so our retailers are constantly fighting for the lowest price. Works out well for the consumer, but really stings the stores - especially smaller stores that can't afford to take a hit.

      For me, the secret to a Jazzmaster is to use the heck out of the tone knob. My JM bridge pickup sounds amazing with the tone set in the 5-6 range. For the neck pickup, I drop the volume to 9 to tame just a little highs without losing sparkle. The secret to the rhythm circuit is to use it with fuzz 😀

    Apparently Fenders come with 10s and Squiers with 9s. I played several Squier Classic Vibe models (JM, Jag and Strat) last week side by side with their Fender counterparts and I noticed the string tension feel too. The shop clrk confirmed the string gauge difference. That said, for a casual player the Squier CVs are weirdly and perfectly good. I'd have a very hard time justifying the 300% price increase to get the Fender.

    Great and fun video! I think some important differences to consider between the Squier and Vintera are that the Squier has a modern 9.5 radius, bone nut, and truss rod access at the head. Vintera has 7.25” radius, plastic nut, and truss rod access at the heel. For the price of the Vintera you could buy 2 or 3 Squiers which have better specs if not the Fender logo.

    • @thelongvirtuesignal8551
      @thelongvirtuesignal8551 7 місяців тому +2

      liking 9.5 over 7.25 is not a "better spec" but rather a subjective preference either way, the fender has the superior specs, but remains overpriced.

      I think they're pretty different. The amp pro ii is WAY more modern, with more action on the vibrato and a series switch where the rhythm circuit usually is. And perhaps I will still end up with a Vintera (III ?), but in the meantime I bought - and returned - the Vintera II, and instead bought (and kept) a Made in Japan Traditional Late 60s. Why the MiJ and not the Vintera? Because I loved (!!!!!) the sound of the Vintera II a lot, but just couldn‘t deal with the shape/size of the neck. :-( The MiJ has a much better neck size/shape for me, and a much less pleasing (but somehow acceptable) sound. I might change the pickups later on. But for now, I‘m enjoying playing the MiJ a lot. If they come out with a Vintera II having a neck like the MiJ, I‘d be tempted to try it.
