The written recipe is correct. Cocoa is not considered a dry ingredient. It is considered a wet ingredient because it actually will melt into the sugar and butter.
I never put the recipe in the comments or the description. If a recipe is available you can find a link to my website where you can access a recipe. In the event a recipe video was posted before I had a website then you will need to grab a pencil and write it down. In this case there is a link in the description box to the recipe on my site. Hope that helps.
Here in indiana where im at you can no longer send anything like that in a childs lunch box, theres a list you have to go by, im glad our daughter is out of school! These look great and i will be making them ....love you all god bless!!
Danny Ziz Open up an brown paper bag. It will work just as well as parchment. I have found rolls of parchment paper at my local dollar store. Much cheaper than the Wilton or Reynolds brands.
helpfulnatural I purchase my parchment from a restaurant supply and it does not come on a roll it comes in sheets that perfectly fit my half sheet pans. They cost less than a penny each. The rolls are worthless in my opinion and I would not recommend using paper bags. They can ignite if they get too greasy and they can have harmful contaminates on them that are bad for you that could transfer during the cooking process. Paper bags are not food safe and are fine for draining fried foods if you place paper towel on top of them, but they are not fine for baking.
Noreen's Kitchen Whoa! I feel like I've had my head bitten off... I was referring to paper lunch bags. Sorry if I didn't mention it. And not everyone has access to restaurant supply stores.
helpfulnatural No biting here! If you thought I was snapping, then that is how you took my reply. I was not snapping at you, I was presenting an answer. As yo said, you were referring to something else. However, this is why I need to patrol this comment section to make sure that the comments being shared are proper and right. Additionally, I purchase my parchment sheets online and everyone here has a computer, or access to one, so those are accessible to everyone who is asking here. They are even available on Amazon. I do not take information sharing lightly. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Thanks.
these a very good ,just made them. Will be making your meatballs again Sunday hopefully some will make it into the freezer. Thanks for all the great recipes.
Hi, These look so yummy! We havent had any in quite a while do to cholesterol issues. Our Amish ladies here in western PA call them "Gobs" though. Our butcher sells their baked goods in his store just a few miles down the road. They make a chocolate kind with peanut butter filling that is to die for!! Thanks for sharing! Have a great night. :)
No, the recipe will only be successful if prepared as written. butter will make the cake part crispy and adding heavy cream in addition to butter will make the cake dreadful and oily because of the high fat content of both the butter and the cream, in addition, the buttermilk serves a purpose in acting as an activating ingredient allowing the leavening to work properly.
No, it isn't alright to use self rising flour. If you made these with self rising flour and they came out crumbly and dry then you know the answer already. You did not follow the recipe. I never use self rising flour. I do not buy it. If I did I would have noted that in the recipe. The self rising flour already has extra salt and baking soda added. The recipe called for both of those things. If you added the extra it caused an improper chemical reaction that caused the recipe to fail. I always recommend that you make a recipe as written first. If you don't have the right ingredients, I suggest you wait until you do. I have tested and mastered these recipes before sharing them so that you would have success with them. I hope you will try again and use the right ingredients.
Well I made these again using all purpose flour and they came out flat. They taste ok and they were very moist. I checked the dates on all my ingredients to make sure they were fresh. I don't know what I did wrong this time. I will be trying another batch soon.
it turns out i am a weak child who is easily summoned by chocolatey sin, and i just got done making these. i halved the recipe and used a different filling recipe, and oh my holy long John silver, they are good. i will try making these with the filling recipe you provided next time. thanks so much for the recipe, it's amazing 👌😍
I had a friend whose mom cooked like you do...I used to love invites for dinner at her house. These look delish! Thanks for sharing! I bet you could whip up some amazing red velvet whoopie pies!
Hi Noreen & Rick👋....these cakes look fabulous!! I was disappointed that Rick didn’t taste test one & yell WHOOPIE!!! 😉😂 I bet the girls where popular at school bringing in mums cooking 😋 These cakes turned out wonderful Noreen!! Just Like shop bought...Well done 👍🏻
noreen do you coupon? after watching videos from the krazy koupon lady and seeing how much she saved i'm thinking about starting. what are your thoughts?
No. I do not coupon. The reasons are because most of the coupons that are given out are for highly processed foods that contain a lot of GMO, artificial and fake ingredients. Coupons are a way to encourage the masses to purchase, consume and become addicted to things that are flat out poison. There are very rarely coupons for fresh produce, fresh meat or dairy products. You will hardly find coupons for healthy organic foods and frankly I think couponining is a racket designed to make people think they are actually saving money. The truth is that if you ate the food you have coupons for, in the long run you would spend much more money on doctors visits and health care than you would have if you simply cooked your own food from scratch and shopped sales and padded your food storage so that you could wage a hedge against inflation. Those are my thoughts on couponing. I simply think it is a waste of time. Additionally, it makes corporations richer and gives them an idea of how to better control you through media and false claims.
amanda m Yes, coupons for personal care items can be helpful, however I really feel like you can get a better deal if you just shop around and then buy those things when they are on special or in bulk. Not make up of course, but if you have coupons then you should use them for things like that. I wonder if the cost of all those newspapers is actually worth it to save only a few dollars. That, of course, is just my personal take on couponing. It is not something I choose to do.
If you want to frost a cake with it this would be fine. It holds up well. It also has a good bit of body because of the marshmallow cream. The extra gelatin in that give the frosting a good staying power.
Yeah, and? When you live with pets, its kind of hard to avoid. We do our best, but sometimes you just can't. You don't have to point things like that out.
This looks so yummy but where I live we don't call them whoopie pies we call them gobs it's so neat how different parts of the country one thing like this is called something one place and another thing someplace else
Hi Noreen, I love this video!!! And plan on making a few "Whoopie Pies" with my grandchildren. So I went to print out the recipe but I could only print out the page 2... I tried it four times and couldn't print the first page... has anyone else had a problem?? I have never had this problem in the past. :-/ I'm sure I'll figure it out. Until next time... Candy
Hi Candy! I'm sorry you're having trouble with printing the recipe. I just printed it here at my printer and it was fine. You may want to check your printing options/preferences. Something may have gotten mixed up. You may need to do the old, turn it off, turn it on again deal and see if that helps.
I love your videos! I have made your hamburger bun recipe for homemade fish sammies and even made a batch into bread bowls and filled them with beef stew... super yum! Can you do a video of the kinds of things you send for lunches? I've got a kindergartner that rarely eats what I send.. and PB&J is getting old. Thank you! Can't wait for the next video!
Oh drool, wonderful recipe! You and Rick always tickle me in your videos. I liked the minus one finger size comment. Wonderful to see a couple work together so well too.
It is in the description box below the video. I just checked it and it is working fine. It takes you to a PDF version of the recipe. This recipe does not have a dedicated page on my website. Only the printable recipe.
I never made videos where I could be seen preparing the food. My kitchen is not large enough for that. I used to do face to face opens and closes. We changed our format and style. This is not about me. It is about the food, the recipe and the process. I am not going for Food Network here. It is more efficient and practical this way.
No reason, that's just the way it came out. Not really a big deal. I'm certain Rick isn't offended by that. We do things together, of course this is our house. Why does it matter?
This video is three years old. I answer this question at least six times a day. No, we cannot put more distance between the camera and the counter. Rick is only so tall and my kitchen is very small. This is how it is. We do not have a studio in which to film our videos, this is our home kitchen and we make it work the best we can. As for me being seen. I was never "seen" while cooking. We just don't have the room for that kind of set up. I used to do face to face opens and closes, but not anymore. We changed the way we do our videos for efficiency and set up and our particular accommodations. I still do channel chats in front of the camera.
Maine is the capital of Whoopie pies
Mmmm another must try they look delicious 😋
Fluff or shortening...which is better?
traditional whoopee pies use shortening in the filling
thanks for sharing!😊
How many Tbsp of batter to put in a whoopie pie pan?
Yum. I want one. I am going to try to make these.
Yaaaaaaa BABY WhoooooPie...Give me Give me NEED NOW!!!!!
LOL!
The whoopee pie was created in Maine in the early19 60's. I started to make them during that time
yummy !!!
Is it for sure 4 cups of flour and another cup of Cocoa Powder?
The written recipe is correct. Cocoa is not considered a dry ingredient. It is considered a wet ingredient because it actually will melt into the sugar and butter.
Awesome, can't wait to try.
Is the recipe written anywhere in the comments?
I never put the recipe in the comments or the description. If a recipe is available you can find a link to my website where you can access a recipe. In the event a recipe video was posted before I had a website then you will need to grab a pencil and write it down. In this case there is a link in the description box to the recipe on my site. They look so yummy! Thanks!
I LOVE ALL of your videos! You make everything seem SO EASY! I am cooking challenged, BUT I am learning SO MUCH from YOU!!! Thank You for sharing!!!!!
What can you use instead of parchment paper?
Danny Ziz Open up an brown paper bag. It will work just as well as parchment. I have found rolls of parchment paper at my local dollar store. Much cheaper than the Wilton or Reynolds brands.

Looks yummy Noreen!
Sending extra of these will guarantee your girls have lots more friends on whoopee day. :)
My girls friends watch my videos and expect that they will get the results of videos such as this. There is no hiding from middle and high schoolers.
Hey Ray have a great day 😀
Yummy!
Absolutely love your recipes

whooopie!!! love love love thanks again Noreen!
Those look so good. I hate store bought ones and never buy them. These I would eat. :)
I bought 2 of these pans at Michael's when they were 40% off. We do love a deal...and neat pans.
Wow they huge! They look perfect. Love the filling too. Thanks Noreen
They call em gobs around our parts
Where is that? Are these somewhat like moonpies?

I have that pan but I use it to make muffin tops. Since those are the best part of a muffin.
Yes, and you won't have to call in the "cleaner" to take care of those pesky bottoms! Top of the Muffin to You! Hope you get that reference.
WHOOPIE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Good !!!!!!!!
Is the marshmallow the same as fluff?
Marshmallow cream or Fluff is fine, they are actually different though.
I have made this batter twice and it does not spread. Any ideas?
I have never had this problem. Do you live at a higher altitude? Are you using self rising flour? I have no idea what could cause this.
do you have any idea about how many whoopee pies this recipe will make?
r harris It makes 18 in total all put together.
OMG! Now that looks absolutely delicious! Can't wait to try this recipe, thanks for another great recipe Noreen...
hi noreen I went on your website. can find your whooping pie recipe plz help.
Did you use the search or the index options? I think it may be under the holiday tab.
+Noreen's Kitchen can you make vanilla and carrot cake whoopie pies please.
Hi Noreen,
For the cookie portion of the Whoopie Pie, can you substitute butter for the oil and heavy cream for the buttermilk?
No, the recipe will only be successful if prepared as written. butter will make the cake part crispy and adding heavy cream in addition to butter will make the cake dreadful and oily because of the high fat content of both the butter and the cream, in addition, the buttermilk serves a purpose in acting as an activating ingredient allowing the leavening to work properly.
Is it ok to use self rising flour?

do they need to be stored in the fridge?
Thanks noreen just found it. love your recipes . cant wait to try these. thank you for responding.
Those pans work perfect for baking eggs for homemade egg mcmuffins.
My husband doesn't like Chocolate. Could these be made in a butter pecan type of cookie??? Butter Pecan is his Favorite. Thanks
There are lots of recipes for different flavors of whoopie pies. I will be making some other in the near future.
how dare u make such delicious looking food when I'm much too lazy to cook ;-;
