- Many AutoCAD users, such as architects, surveyors, engineers, etc., often need access to territorial information as a basis for their own projects or their work related in some way to the territory
OpenStreetMap community has this kind of spatial information, which is freely available, supported by thousands of users worldwide and continuously updated (see the previous post in this Blog)
Spatial Manager™ for AutoCAD includes, as other products in the Spatial Manager™ suite, its own data provider to access the information in OpenStreetMap and import it as graphical objects and alphanumeric data (EED)
In this example, by using the search and navigation tools in the main OpenStreetMap website, we locate the spatial information relating to a given city and the search process is focused on a specific area of the city. Then, from this website, the information is exported to an OSM file which will be used in Spatial Manager™ for AutoCAD to import OpenStreetMap data into an AutoCAD drawing
The information to be imported into AutoCAD from the OSM file is segmented. First, the buildings are imported and automatically separated into different AutoCAD layers, according to their build type. Then, the routes are imported into another Layer
Also, we configure the application to perform a Coordinate Transformation to project the objects over the import process (OpenStreetMap information is defined using the WGS 84 Latitude-Longitude system -- EPSG: 4326)

hello I have a trial version of spatial manager and have been trying to follow the correct steps to import OpenStreetMap data into AutoCAD but I keep getting an error no elements are written it says 0 written skipped the features outside of current view, what could the issue be and how to fix please??

Hello, thanks for your interest in 'Spatial Manager'. While importing, you can Label any object (road, building, etc.) using any field (name, number, etc.). The video is quite old and this option is not shown, but you can find the Label option (and many more) in the latest version. Try by yourself downloading and testing the free trial version: www.spatialmanager.com/download/spatial-manager-autocad/

Thanks for you comment. Glad to know you like it. Yes, you can edit any attached data, such as the road names or any other. Once you have imported from OSM, the objects are in the drawing so you can use the map offline
How can I get an open street map for a modern area because some maps do not have streets or blocks?

Hello Orhan. Try if you can execute the SPM commands (SPM, SPMIMPORT, etc.) in the command line (wiki.spatialmanager.com/index.php/Spatial_Manager%E2%84%A2_for_AutoCAD#AutoCAD_commands). If not, go to "Program and Features" in the Windows Control Panel, "Uninstall" the Application and then "Repair" it
why in my AutoCAD the menu spatial manager couldn't find the submenu TempSPM (Dijon Centre.osm)?
Hello, thanks for your interest in 'Spatial Manager'. This is not a submenu but a Shortcut that points to a disk folder where the downloaded OSM file has been saved. You can create a shortcut wiki.spatialmanager.com/index.php/Spatial_Manager%E2%84%A2_for_AutoCAD_-_FAQs:_Data_sources#What_are_the_Shortcuts.3F or access directly to that folder through "My PC" on this tree. You need Spatial Manager Desktop as standalone application, or Spatial Manager for CAD when using inside AutoCAD, BricsCAD, ZWCAD or GstarCAD. You can download them here: www.spatialmanager.com/downloads/

With respect to imported items, the trial version has certain limitations that you can review here:

With respect to the map, we don't know which map you want to show or how you have defined the coordinate system of the drawing. Contact support@spatialmanager.com to send an example to the support team so they can solve you the problem

Please contact our support team (support@spatialmanager.com) since a version has recently been released in which it has "slipped" in error that may affect your problem. Although the bug has been fixed, the downloadable version has not yet been updated but they can send you a link to download it now

+Julia Oliveira - Hello Julia. Yes, technically you can. But the free trial version is limited to import 100 objects in each import process. That will be changed when we release the version 3.0 (at the end of September or early October). Then, the limitation will be to import the 75% of the incoming file. Thanks for your interest

Hi, Thank you for your sharing. I have a small question related to the small road. When I import the map to my Autocad, it displays only one lane for the small road. I wonder how to set the program to show both lanes (Both back and forth).

Thanks for your comment. If this information is available in OpenStreetMap, it will be imported. In other word, if a road is defined in OpenStreetMap including 2 or more lanes, they will be imported as different objects in AutoCAD. Otherwise, not. We hope this helps
