- Join David and Holly as they continue their overlanding journey from north to south of Wyoming by way of the Backcountry Discovery Route (BDR). In Episode 1 they traveled through Section 8 and now Section 7 will start them at the Bear Lodge in Burgess Junction, WY and take them to Ten Sleep, WY through some of the most beautiful scenery of the whole trip, where they meet up with one of the Hatchet Overland (David's camper manufacturer) owners, Craig Fischer.
Section 7 is 119 miles descending the Big Horn Mountains (north to south) from Burgess Junction, WY to Ten Sleep, WY. We elected to take the 22 mile long expert section over remote Woodchuck Pass (9636 elevation). Section 7 including the expert section is spectacular and deserves as much time as you can spare to fully enjoy it!
Travel dates: August 14-15, 2022

Ikr?
Awesome video, thank you for sharing.
Thank you!! Thanks for watching!
Awesome! Loving every moment of these episodes. Great source of info for my 2023 plans!!
Don’t feel bad about skipping parts of the bdr if on 4x4… while some would be a blast on a bike, it gets old in a 4 wheel! Thanks for watching!
My advice is to take 2 days to do section 7, especially with the expert section. It’s truly that beautiful that you want to stop often to take it all in. Someday we’ll do this section again to properly film it with a drone. There are fantastic spots all along the trail for camping.
@@hollymays9786 it was good to see you enjoying it and putting in the work behind the wheel!
Looks like you guys were there about the same time as we did it in early last October. We did north to south as well, such an awesome trip! Great video 👍
did you do the expert sections? if so, what was your thoughts on them? and were you on bike or 4x4?
Wicked good place too eat lunch 👍
It was just beautiful!! Thanks for watching Hoagie!!
@@aMAYSingLife thanks for filming
We live in Ten Sleep. When you were near medicine lodge you were on the logging trail for a bit that's why it was rough.
It was impressive to see the logging semis get down that road lol
aMaysing Life - aMaying wife - You guys look like you are really enjoying life together.
It was a great trip!
Loving the adventure David/Holly, beautiful country with some technical 4wdriving, thanks for sharing & looking forward to the next part of the journey
Thank you Louis!
👍👍👍👍👍😀The BDR is on my bucket !!!
It’s a good one!!
So good! Love the vids. Keep them coming. But that thumbnail is hard to read 😉
Thank you!! I tend to agree! Going to see if we can fix that.. thanks for the insight and confirmation
Great video, can't wait to tackle that BDR! Is that a large Ipad with Gaia GPS you're using for navigation?
yes, thats the 12.9" mounted using the left mounting bolt for the grab handle and a ram mount with a ipad holder with ram mount. Honestly it would be better to have a mini as it gets a little in the way of the passenger but its what i have. sure makes navigation nice though. so much better than in dash. plus, i then use in dash for other things, like fuel stops, or restaurants etc.. keeps them separate really makes it easier.
@@aMAYSingLife awesome love it. I'm actually using a mini myself on a ram mount and find a little too small haha.
Its hard to tell from the map. If rain, are you suggesting bypass the section from Hyattville to Ten Sleep? I will be on a GS, you remember, what you road before you went to the 4x4 dark side😊
LOL. yeah I have taken some abuse over the 2 to 4 wheel transition! But yeah, thats what we did. There are a couple methods to do it. We actually went paved route taking hwy 31 west to county rd 43 into ten sleep. it also appears we could have taken county rd 49 that was just past hyattville that also would have skipped the potentially nasty section and would have been fewer miles. not sure if it was paved though. i'm told that section is really pretty and we didn't skip it due to issues but rather time so if not bad weather its worth the ride is my understanding.
@@aMAYSingLife super thanks. Very helpful!!
I just found your channel, excellent video. We are headed to the Grand Tetons this July. Can you share where you found the GAIAGPS files?
Nevermind, found it……lol
man i'm so sorry for the delay.. i did an acting gig that took me out of the loop for about 3 weeks and somewhere in there i stopped getting notifications of comments.. and then i just missed them.. glad you found the files!! and thanks for watching!
Thinking of doing this segment. Jeep Gladiator Rubicon (4WD, lockers), and pulling an offroad trailer. Any tight switchbacks or other concerns that would be problematic?
Just talked with holly and she reminded me saying how happy I was that we didn’t have a trailer on the expert section on section 7. There were some tight spots.. I think the gladiator would be fine and I’m not saying it would be impossible but it might not be fun..
To be clear it’s not difficult as much as just tight
