My firstborn bit me in anger at 8 months. It definitely starts between 6-12 months. We baby our kids way too long. And before ppl come at me, I have plennnnnty of higher education and experience in early childhood. These people are crazy to think it starts close to 2 years.
Liquid Death? You do realize there are several videos about the people who created it and them casting spells over it when it's being made. I'm shocked.
I use the Proverbs 13:24 method. The Bible says you hate your child if you don’t discipline them. Discipline can look different for each situation and child, but doing nothing or just saying, ‘please don’t do that!’ Is NOT discipline after the 900th time saying it. The gentle parenting movement burns me up! We are going to have a generation of entitled brats soon from it. As a teacher I have seen it over the years.
With a small child when you say "no" you can remove him from the area. So if you don't want him to touch the outlet you say "no" and then physically move him from it since they don't fully understand the exact concept of the word yet. Then as they get older make sure that if you choose to use the word "no" it is a "no" every time. That way they aren't confused and see that you mean what you say. A mom gave me that advice. She had 2 children very close in age. She said even if her or her husband later thought they didn't necessarily needed to say to it, they stuck to it in order to be consistent and not confuse or irritate the child.
LOVED all the parenting talk! I agree parts of gentle parenting are good, but parts are too extreme. As someone who spanked my kids, (because my parents did it correctly & it worked) I feel that was the right way to go at that age. And because of that, now that they’re teens I’m able to do more gentle parenting because I want them to know I value their voice & input. My biggest stance though is that there is no perfect way to parent. Everyone has to do the best they can with the kids God gave them because your kids will be different from each other need different styles. 😊🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing your experience! Gentle Parents are feral if you say that you spank. They think time out is abuse 🤯 time away to breath and be alone helps my child so much!!
Genuinely curious of your experience with spanking? The way my parents went about spanking me as a child didn’t work well, how did you parents go about it?
@@ava.noelle Thanks for genuinely asking! My dad made it a point to never spank out of anger. He also always asked if we knew why we were getting spanked & then very calmly & rationally would explain something like, “Because you lied, you’re getting 1 swat” etc. It was always the clear consequence because of an act of disobedience. Then afterwards we’d pray & and ask Jesus to forgive us & he’d remind us he loved us & we’d hug. I feel like where parents mess up is 1. Being angry & making it a scary traumatizing event, 2. Spanking without the kid fully understanding what they did wrong. For me, it was always very clear that I didn’t want to do that thing again since I’d gotten spanked for it. Also, they had a very specific spoon they used, that hung on the kitchen wall, so lots of times if they just pointed to it we’d quickly stop arguing or fighting. My dad was a firm believer in this so that “kids fear the rod, not the hand of their parent”. Oh also, the rules were clearly communicated so we knew which ones would lead to a spanking. For us, the big ones were lying, hurting a sibling physically or with mean words, & being defiant or disrespectful. So that was what I did with my kids. As a pastor, I heard him say many times, “You don’t spank your kids for spilling their milk, or some accident like that, and you don’t spank them for things like dragging their feet getting ready. It has to be a direct violation of your family’s rules.” Hope this helps. 😊 God bless!
@@ava.noelle Here are a couple scriptures too that is the reason I still believe spanking done right is effective! “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 “Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.” Proverbs 13:24 “Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. Punish them with the rod and save them from death.” Proverbs 23:13-14 “The rod and rebuke give wisdom, But a child left to himself brings shame to his mother. Correct your son, and he will give you rest; Yes, he will give delight to your soul.” Proverbs 29:15, 17
*Tips for all dads* Active listening builds emotional bonds; share quality time through activities you both enjoy. Foster open communication, making your child feel heard and valued. Lead by example, embodying the values you wish to instill. Encourage independence, supporting their decision-making and responsibilities. These practices nurture a strong, positive parent-child relationship.
10 minutes in and I’ve laughed significantly hard 3 times and chuckled many more…. You are CORRECT in your gentle parenting opinion 🫡. (Edit-significant laughing all throughout parenting style segment😂)
In my junior year of high school, we were supposed to do a research project on a conspiracy theory. I chose MK-Ultra. A similar research project was the Montauk project. They would find kids roaming in the woods, kidnap them, and administer LSD and other mind-altering drugs. It's what Stranger Things is loosely based on. I'm usually anti-conspiracy theories, but the fact that the CIA actually did this to people (and often young teenagers) is insane!
Such a great fan video! As someone who loves going back & listening to DLGB & old CO episodes, I often chuckle at things past Trey said that he has changed his stance on or definitely wouldn’t say now. 🤣
It’s one thing not to hit your kids, but it’s another thing not to punish them for things that need to be punished. It is better to teach kids that when they are an adult their actions will have consequences. What happened to grounding your kids? There’s no hitting or physical harm involved in that, and it teaches them a lesson. People gentle parent for themselves, not their children. They don’t want it on their conscience that they (in their mind) inconvenience their child in any way, so they don’t punish. They don’t realize that they are seriously inconveniencing them by not teaching them any type of behavioral norm for when they are an adult and when they can get fined or imprisoned for disrespectful behavior in some instances (we are seeing tiktokers get arrested when they are on vacations in different countries because they raise their voice at the cops or wear a certain outfit and didn’t bother to look up how to act there so this wouldn’t happen and then just get upset they are getting into trouble). Trey is right that there will be the children of today in 10 years as adults going rampant in almost everything they do.
One of my sons at 10 months old knew - I saw it in his eyes. He has a twin who do not have that recognition. You'll know and all of mine were before 19 months. And yeah.... no quitters. Look at society.... we aren't better by all this horrific parenting. Kids are more depressed and anxious than ever. 24:30
My 13 month old 100% knows that when I say no he must stop what he is doing. How do I know, because he stops what he is doing and gives me a freaking attitude. If he does it again you remove from the object/issue. He will test first time hardest. Be consistent over time. No more rules than necessary. Base rules off princles, not if you're having a bad day. Easy easy. (Jk just try to keep your shit together and act to them like you want them to act to everyone while maintaining the hierarchy of parent/child). Charlotte Mason has a good description of what that looks like biblically. (Don't think midwest 90s baptist biblical either) 😂 Enjoyed the episode, you guys are hilarious!
Explaining to a child what and why is not gentle parenting - that's called common sense. Gentle parenting is basically almost no discipline and only talking. It's the worst parenting. True patently is truth in love. Gentle when needed and authority when needed. Common sense. 18:23
Every time a Royal Maych ad comes on they really look slightly AI and I wonder if it’s not all just fake. Like they’re all in court being sued for stealing someone’s image lol. If not, some sort of data mining thing must be connected to that app. Otherwise, why would all of these big name people be doing ads for it?!
This was so timely because the night before this podcast came out I thought of the word “Funishment” and said to my husband, “Do you think I just coined a word for those parents who send kids to their rooms where they have all kinds of things to play with? I’ve never heard anyone use it before.” He said “sounds like something Trey Kennedy would spoof on.” And now the gentle parenting discussion! It fits! 😂
You guys would like the books “Whole Brain Child” and “No Drama Discipline.” Science/fact-based vs opinion-based from so many random parenting influencers/“experts.” 🥴 Talks a lot about kids’ brain development and when they actually know right from wrong, when they’re actually able to regulate emotions, etc.
Katie, I knew what you were reading right away as soon as you described it paired with the author of usual historical fiction! Magic Hour (also called Wild) by Kristin Hannah. I read it a few years back and I remember thinking it was a bit different too but I also remember really enjoying the end! Especially since not all of her books end so happy!
Guys. Watching the pod on my TV, saw the segment where you talked about the video of the people mad about the baby in the bar 20 mins ago. Just opened my Facebook app , scrolled for a minute and the video popped RIGHT UP. What on earth
As a 5th grade teacher, I had a parent who didn’t want me to tell their child they were “in trouble” or make them feel like it. Because it was negative. 😂
Liquid Death because it’s the death of your taste buds. Tried mango chainsaw and it tasted like they marinated a rusty chainsaw in water and forgot to add the mango.
Gentle parenting is the biggest scam 😂 (from a mom of 3 boys under the age of 6)
100%. I have 3 boys under 7!
The 7 11 shirt looks like an old bowling team shirt🎳
The shirt is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Exactly what I thought!
Children learn to manipulate their parents at a young age.
Oh as an elementary school teacher, we know who the “gentle parents” are! We know.
Preach! It’s like they have a disease-
My correct opinion: Trey and Katie are going to butt heads over parenting styles in real life REAL soon. 😂
My firstborn bit me in anger at 8 months. It definitely starts between 6-12 months. We baby our kids way too long. And before ppl come at me, I have plennnnnty of higher education and experience in early childhood. These people are crazy to think it starts close to 2 years.
Also it was HILARIOUS when he bit me. Obviously there was some discipline, but it was hard for me to not laugh immediately
i so agree! they know what they're doing when you say NO and then they
grin and try to see how far they can get with you.
Yes, I would say around 6 to 7 months the awareness starts.
Liquid Death? You do realize there are several videos about the people who created it and them casting spells over it when it's being made. I'm shocked.
Agree! It’s so sad when they intentionally disobey, and it starts much younger than people think.
I use the Proverbs 13:24 method. The Bible says you hate your child if you don’t discipline them. The shirt looks like you’re taking fashion tips from John Crist.
😂
Thought exactly that John would wear that on his pod! Haha

1:07:35 when I was in 7th grade I did a project on how 9/11 was an inside job.
I would very much like to hear trey's essay on jfk....next dramatic reading?
Also hilarious that those dumb shoes have been recalled (?) because louboutin has the trademark to the red bottom soles 😂
You have no idea how much I hope this is true lol
Family man Derek out here doing the Lord’s work.😂 #mkultra
Trey's level of pettiness knows no bounds😂💀🔥

Mumbai India 😂😂😂
My dad (over 60) says "I was rotten" when referring to really stinky farts! That entire part had me dying laughing!
Newton KS! I lived there and taught at their 1 HS - soooo true - but we did have a Pizza Hut 😎
16:18 buy your own tank??? In this economy??
Trey's shirt works with the background. Love it ❤😊
The take on Trump’s sneakers is to show Black people he’s cool 😏

The 7 11 shirt is Lit 🔥
Liquid Death because it’s the death of your taste buds. Tried mango chainsaw and it tasted like they marinated a rusty chainsaw in water and forgot to add the mango.
I could go for a good buttered roll from 7-11…. I wonder if they even make them.
OMG, a minute in and I'm laughing out loud, you guys are too funny, the shirt is da bomb!
My 10 month old knows the word no and he thinks it hilarious to ignore me lol
