The short of it is that if enough Orks believe in something, reality gets warped to a certain degree to allow it to work. For example: in (some, not all) WH40K novels, Ork guns are literally just gun-looking replicas with bolts and nuts inside, but because they look like guns and there's plenty enough Orks around, they work but when am Imperial Guardsman, may the Inquisition have mercy on his corrupted soul, picks one up it just rattles uselessly because whilst it may have a crude replication of what's supposed to make a gun work, the Ork mekboyz don't have much in the way of proper engineering degrees. Or how painting things purple makes them stealthier, because have you ever seen a purple Ork? Now with that in mind, much like it's an ongoing joke that Lord Commissar Sebastian Yarrick's (of the War for Armageddon fame) ongoing life is owed to the Orks simply liking that madlad's big brass balls and his ability to give 'em a proper, fun fight and thus empowering one of their favourite enemies/friends (it's not a mutually exclusive thing with Orks), it's my personal take that the Warhammer 40K setting of being in constant war, strive and in general just being a hellhole is simply because the Orks believe that's what the universe should be like. But they do see their Astropaths as holy disciples (navigators too) that communicate with the emperor. Black templars do not really hate psykers, they just can’t ignore such a threat in combat :)
I'd only recently been looking into the Black Templars after I happened on a video about the 3rd War for Armageddon and the role played by their Chaplain/Reclusiarch Grimaldus. Pretty bad-ass!!

The Black Templars are carrying the will of Sigismund, the undefeated more than Dorn's want to defend. The Emperor's champion stands as testament to that strength
I still think the scene where the Kasrkin saves the Templar is my favorite. Only Kasrkin are so good at balls to the walls extreme violence that they get to save Space Marines in the heat of the moment.
I do have one issue with this video... not enough dakka. The coolest thing about Orks is basically their psychic mob mentality: Orks (or Krorks that their precursors created by the Old Ones were called) have an unconscious psychic power where enough of them simply believing in something makes said something true. Orks start out as these near caveman-level creatures in terms of intellect, they love to hack and smash stuff with melee weapons, but as more of them are born they eventually manifest "Oddboyz" who have technical knowledge programmed into their genetics that begin to advance a mob's or tribe's technology, so they start making "shootas" (Ork term for guns) and sooner or later bigger and stronger shootas, jeeps, tanks, mechs and other completely insane weapons: And by all laws of physics these things shouldn't even function, they're basically just a bunch of random metal and scrap cobbled together, but because enough Orks simply believe it works, it will work. And when an Ork population reaches a critical mass, they go on a mass migratory warpath called a "WAAAAGH!!!" just annihilating anything and everything on an interplanetary scale and just further spreading this contagion as their spores are shed everywhere. This mindset goes as far as to literal colors having an effect: Orks believe that by painting a vehicle red, it goes faster, and then it does. Or painting a bomb yellow makes a bigger explosion, and it does. There's even a joke that since the Orks believe blue to bring luck, therefore it's because of the Orks' psychic mob mentality that the Ultramarines are so ridiculously overpowered and unstoppable since they're decked head-to-toe in blue.

one thing you didn't mention about the orks is their ability to make whatever they believe in real. if there are enough orks believing something, that thing is true. That is why as you kill orks in combat, things happen like gargants stop working, their planes stop flying, and eventually even their guns do not function if you kill enough of them. Heck, there is a chance that they made a commissar immortal because they thought he could not die after facing him several times and each time he was wounded, sometimes pretty badly, but still won and came back for more.
