- I show you how to make molds for your miniatures or scale models using hot glue, just like you would with blue stuff, oyumaru or rapid mold. I use this technique for my nurgle models and terrain.

My friend Lyla proved me wrong, you can use a hot glue gun, go watch that ua-cam.com/video/lGyWhWPfmlo/v-deo.html
My friend Bill @berserkerworks sculpted the cute orc totems in the video I'm molding
THANKS AGAIN DAD
Oh, Lyla Mev. She's great. I'm more into sculpting, but I'm definitely going to try this trick out, it sounds a lot easier than pouring silicone.
I appreciate the excessive Miniac Merch product placements
this is my only item of clothing without holes
A yet greater honor?
@@Miscast Well, what are you doing? Put a whole in the darn thing already. It's feeling left out.
@@jekster @miniac literally told me no
@@Miscast not yet
I love when you charge up and post a cluster of videos in rapid succession
How else are you supposed to get those combo points up? 😃
The other nice thing about this is that if your mold fails or if you don't want it any more, you should be able to melt it down and make a new mold.
I just wanna say I appreciate how you got straight to answering the question in this video. Many other youtubers would've padded it out with a 5 minute recap of the question, as if we hadn't gotten it from the title. Great stuff
hey there turns out you CAN actually do molds straight from the hot glue gun as long as you lubricate the model with oil of some kind, after watching this video over 50 times, I was filled with enough inspiration from @miscast to risk losing my sculpt and it somehow ended up working!
Time to cast it in plaster now buh byeeeeee
When Trent gets busy and makes several videos, we get lucky 😙
Madman! I'm loving these casting projects- good fortune to you and all of your cats and rocks.
Miscast always answering the questions I have without me ever saying anything
Haha, it's been many years since I lived in Australia, but that Spotlight comment had me right back there 🤣 Also, brilliant idea thanks for making the video!
as a brazilian that had a hard time trying to find green stuff and other specialized materials where i live, i thank you. I thank you with all my heart
Cool! Also, if you want to prevent bubbles in the surfice of your plaster cast, like the tiny ones you see in the final example, apply some of the plaster mix with a brush inside the mold before pooring in the bunch.
I had tried hot glue molds from without seeing anyone talk about them online, and found small bits were ok, but two part molds were hard, but I was using it straight from the gun. Never did I think about boiling it and folding it over, but now I'm going to go find some stuff to work on and hopefully not burn myself.
I appreciate you answering the question right off the bat, rather than waiting until 30 seconds before the video is over to answer it.
Great work Trent always love what your making 👍
I love your videos, no matter how your projects turn out just please don’t stop making videos.
Super awesome trick bro! I’m trying this today!
Most of my figures lost weapons during a house fire. I recently got some back from the storage locker and wanted to make Mold of whatever weapons or accessories survived. I wasn’t in the mood of waiting for resin. What a godsend this video was!
Ima be real with ya Trent your nurgle diaries series finally got me into kitbashing and old imperial guard army into pox walkers. It’s been super Fun. Anyways what I’m trying to say is thank you man❤️
that's really awesome to hear!
I'm so thankful for this video!!! You helped me save my money.🤗🤗
two videos in two days? papa nurgle blessed us
Yes, yes you can. Thanks dude.
Brilliant video, thank you x
awesome, I'm gonna try this.Thanks
These are truly good
Thank you I just got in to this hobby and videos like these are very helpful THANK YOU
This is such a great video, I love the simplicity... not just of the mold, but of your plaster technique. Not everything needs to be done "by the book". Add some water, plaster, smack the table and done. Awesome Trent.
Thank you! You just saved me a fortune!
What a great tip!! Thank you.
This is suuuper helpful, thanks man, i really appreciate it!
awesome trick
Liked..and SAVED. Thanks Trent!!!
Yes great idea!!!
Dude, nice vid and tips. Thank you.
This really made my day
Bless you sir, I just Hulk handed a drawer pull in half and now I have a way to mold it and make another one on the cheap 😁
That´s Genius!!! Thanks for the tip!!
starts with the answer> gives great step by step guide> don't talk rubbish to extend watch time looks like a perfect how to/info video to me. thanks.
Man I'm gonna try this right now
thanks for the tips!
Beauty!
nice idea
This is fecking genius!!!!! Thank you!
Very cool
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Yay more content, keep it coming and I will keep soaking it all up =)
Thank you!!!!
Another video I’m very happy now 👌
AMAZING tutorial, this is going to be super helpful with some of the projects I'm working on. (I hope you were using a respirator while pouring plaster)
Super clever
I'm going to do this! I have a few different kinds of long-in-the-box hot glue sticks, and I can't get myself to afford the store-intended clear stuff. Thanks for another awesome video, this had tons of greats suggestions.
This is genius!
Thx for tip
Interesting
May have to try !will let you know my friend
Thank you for this lovely little video . . . Now if I could only find a TEC 850-12 (they've been discontinued - but the -15 I think is still available) good high and fast heat. Even used, would gladly pay "rehoming" fee to give it a good new home.
Lots of good tips to start me on my new adventure in injection molding 💕
Trent, you’re spoiling me with all these uploads
I do have some extra low temp glue sticks so I will try this out. Oyumaru isn't prohibitively expensive and you can always easily reuse it.
"Oyumaru isn't prohibitively expensive and you can always easily reuse it."
We're Australians. You'd be horrified on how far we have to travel and what we have to pay 😒
If the detail is not too fine you can also use Plasticine. Push the master into the plasticine and put the lot in the freezer (to make the plasticine hard), de-mould and then make the copy with plaster or epoxy putty of your choice.
You will lose some detail but it's good enough for many things.
Oh wow!! I never knew this. I have loads of plasticine which I bought to seal mould housing. That was before I was aware it reacted with my silicone rubber. Great idea, thank you so much for sharing it x ❤
100% dopeness!
Dude I was trying this out like a week ago and I basically destroyed my d20 on it. Love the video btw!
Hot glue is one of my favorites. And now, I need to try molding it with hot water.
Nice tip :)
Nice.
Found some 10 year old gluesticks from a storage box and It actually works. Thanks for the video.
This is genius
Will need to take a shot at this and mold me some doors!
This is great! I'm 100% using this on my next project.
Also... now I just REALLY want to see your take on some Lord of the Rings stuff, it's THE BEST GAME!
I've seen several videos on using hot glue for molds (I work in resin) but have NEVER seen anyone simply heat up the glue sticks in boiling water. THIS, good sir, was simply brilliant!!!!
Dude omg man, right from the beginning i was cursing words so bad from wtf amazement of 'how did i not figure this out/ i knew there had to be a hot glue method out there that works!' Basically my curse words before commenting here were full of good intentions, lol Thank you beyond much for the detailing of it and explaining the differences in temp, way to do it, etc, AND doing it right from the glue gun because I dodged a bullet seeing this right before I literally was about to do it, so whew! Good wishes to your channel. 🥂to Art!
revolutionary outside the box thinking there, I can finally retire my old milliput molds of mordheim bitz
Better yet, I'll just get you to make me the molds haha genius idea.
coooool! ive got my own putty i make myself from learning esters!!! ehehehhe
Looks like I'm off to spotlight and the Reject shop soon
This is awesome, can't wait to try it!
And you're wrong about Spotlight, it's a wonderful Nanna filled wonderland.
my aging mum calls Spotlight "Shoplift", hilarious, i.e. I'm off to shoplift...
Top Tip .. 👌😎💚
Brilliant! Did you use a release agent?❤️🇦🇺
So, where does one get the good thermoplastic? (and uhh dont tell em, but how well would it work for making extra GW bits?)
Can we please get some more terrain building
Thank you for doing this video and making it simple to see what you're doing! Have you had any fails with the glue sticking to the templates doing it this way? Or take any precautions by coating them first, just in case?
I know you said how the water forms a skin but did see as you worked with it sometimes it would stick to your gloves. 🤔
I'm trying to get very shallow/small impression details and want to be sure I can still see them.
Thanks!
Great idea! I might try this someday. But what I really like to now is this: what poder are you mixing for making the mold? That is plaster right? What product are you using for this? Thank you!
Tam da axtardığı videodu👏👏👍👍🇦🇿
Would this work for smaller, _metallic_ parts?
haha I use specifically 'high temp' glue sticks! lol
Ah, the memories of spending every day on the mwg forums as a youngin'.
can i use this method to make hot glue molds for 6mm miniatures?
Do you think this is able to get enough detail to be able to cast dice?
And thus began the international low-temp hot glue shortage.
😀
My lawyers will be in touch....
I will fight them off with my new army of plaster orcs
How do you get it to not stick to the stuff?
What's the powder you're using
How do the hot glue molds interact with a pressure pot? is it the same as other molds, or is there some risk to it?
hello, have you tried to melt the glue in hot water with dish soap?
The work of @the_warsinger is a great example of everything that can be done with a hot glue gun.
Ok cool
Look at me buying bluestuff like a chump at full price
Seriously Trent, what’s up with the BDSM cat
i'm an old wh fantasy player, and i need a shitton of new round bases to play aos... is it a good idea to make hot glue molds and fill them with acetone melted sprues?
Worth a shot!
Great idea! Did you try any release agent?
talcum powder did the job and its paintable :)
@@Miscast Thanks!
Can't believe nobody has done this before lol
So I used my thermoplastic last night and there was a panic. It stuck, like really stuck to the thing I was pressing in. Took me ages to get it back out. Do you need to dust/talc everything first? X
Typically it's okay, but if you're having trouble talc is the way to go
