You can make them look a lot better by scraping over the filled mold with a metal spatula right after you finish filling the mold. It helps fill the mold up to the edges, ensures the back of the embellishment is perfectly flat, and helps remove any extra glue. You can also pop any bubbles by hitting it with a heat gun right after scraping it with the spatula. Just don't use a plastic spatula because those melt. :) Also, I've seen really beautiful glitter mixes created in the glue by first holding the glue stick over a heat source enough to melt the outside, then roll it in glitter and let cool/harden again. Then use as usual, and the glitter coating mixes in with the glue as the glue gun melts it and you squeeze it into the mold.
Thank you so much ! Great tip ... unfortunately I only have a small craft glue gun with one heat setting so by the time they are filled they are solid .... they get cold so fast .. maybe one day I will incest in a super hot glue gun 😍😍😍😍😍
I use a cheap silicone mat and cut it into small pieces. Once the glue is in the mould I press a piece of mat on top of it which pushes it in and makes a flat backside. However be careful, one piece is often not enough to stop the heat passing thru. Therefore these finger protectors are a great idea. With bigger pieces I often roll a pin or another gluestick over the mat as well to flatten the back even more.
Wow! I’ve actually been looking at a bunch of silicone embellishment-molds on amazon and suddenly, here you are with a fun and easy molding DIY! Love you to pieces Claire!! ❤️
This is genius!! They turned out so great! And not as intimidating as the resin for me. I think I’m going to get me a few moulds and give it a go!! Thanks for sharing lady!! Great idea! Xx
I think you're my soul sister! We have so much in common when it comes to crafting! I got into resin in 2013, and I saw tutorials then about using hot glue with silicone molds. I tried it many years ago but hadn't since until a few days ago. But I had actually chopped up some glue sticks and put them in the molds in the oven. I think the temp was too high because they ended up really bubbly. It was an experiment. I learned for next time. I couldn't find anything about what temp to put them on for hot glue. I have also melted perler beads in them which is what I think I will do next time. I was trying to make some baroque scrolls to add to ornaments. Planning to paint them like some I saw on Pinterest. I just saw your first video in the last hour and I am now subscribed! 💝 Keep up the good work!
Thanks soooooo much ❤❤❤ that is honestly so cool !!! I have come a long way since that very first resin video ... honestly love it now xxx it kind of took over ! 🤣🤣🤣 thanks so kuch for subbing xx I am in full blown Christmas craft at the moment but the resin will return xx ❤❤

I’ve done this with colored and glitter glue sticks making flowers in small silicone molds, but I never tried using mica in the mold. I will now! Thanks for the inspiration, Claire! I also used a silicone scraper or spatula to run across the top of the mold after it’s filled to cut down the trimming all the extra glue . You could probably use an old credit card and accomplish the same thing. Anything that won’t melt from the temperature of the glue to level the surface. Happy Autumn! Kris P
Thankyou so much lovely ❤❤❤ such a good idea .. I will for sure try this 🙌🙌 I feel like my hot glue goes cold real quick ! I mean its hot enough to burn me 🤣🤣 but that large skull had gone cold at the bittom before I could even fill it up lol 😆 great tip thanks so much ❤️
Claire, use a hair dryer or better yet buy a craft heat embosser and heat up your glue while in the mold a little if it starts getting cool. A regular construction heat gun is a bit too hot unless you’re very careful. Have fun! ❤️ Kris

It does! I tried this many years ago and just found a rose the other day that I made with hot glue in a silicone mold. This was many years ago before silicone molds became popular and I had made my own mold with mold putty and a rose cabochon. You dust the mold with glitter (fine, glitter, preferably) and then add the glue. They turned out really pretty. I actually made myself a mold of a glue stick so I could make my own glittery glue sticks, lol. This was before everything blew up and so many things became available. You couldn't buy a bag of glitter glue sticks for a dollar at that time like you can now. They were $3.99 or so at the craft store. It's amazing how far things have come in 8 years! I really became obsessed with crafting in December of 2012 when my kids got older and didn't need me so much anymore.
Thanks Lainey ... I am so glad you found it helpful xxx I never know if I am helping or just in my own world with this stuff but I am so glad people are finding it useful to know 🤣🤣❤❤😍

They definitely look cool. Oh man I’m thinking the hot glue will quickly diminish the life/quality of a mold. Maybe some release spray just a few minutes before will be useful. The mica powder is probably a descent barrier but ..might want to have certain molds for only hot glues. For people that are not able to use resin this would be sooo good!! Or for molds that aren’t newer 👌💯✌️✌️✌️
Ohhhhh thank you so much xx it is possible I guess ... I never really thought about it ... I know resin heats up too and moulds do deteriorate over time ... but absolutely great to use it with moulds that are not 100% ... it definitely worked best with the moulds that were less fiddly xxx
Just a quick note hearing hot glue in glue pan ( 7 1/2 inch electric skillet works great can make glue more liquid.. just thought I would mention. Walmart has skillets they are anywhere from 10.00 to 15.00 dollars. Happy DIY ❣
After you fill your mold, put some parchment paper on top and hold an iron over it or hit with a heat gun or hair dryer. Use anything flat (I like a silicone spatula) to press the re melted glue till it gets in all those hard to reach areas. You can reheat as many times as needed and the parchment paper will keep the glue in the mold, not on the scraper, and when it cools will peel right off. Just dont touch the molds with your iron, just hold it over the surface.
Why have I never thought of this before?!! lol. You know where it would come in handy is for letter molds! It would give a nice 3D effect on the Halloween craft books. :)
If you heat the mould up well till it's very hot and put the glue in right away it should allow the hot glue to flow better into crevices, as a thouroughly hot mould will not allow the glue to cool quickly. The more thoroughly the mould is heated and the closer to the melting temp of the glue your using the better. Oven and a pair of pliers works well, watch the fingers.
I have a Surebonder hot glue gun which has a number of temperature settings. Based on your experience with hot glue guns and molds and not wanting to destroy my mold by too high of a temperature setting should I go to the lowest settings on the glue gun?
Such a great idea! I'm on my third gluegun, but I've never used one. I buy a cheap one to experiment, lend it to a friend in need and then never get it back...
Ive heard of this but not seen it turn out well until now!! I have a question tho.. When you put the tip of your flue gun down in there to get the hard spots, does it not melt your mold? Oh wow!!! The skeleton hands came out great!! Where did you find that mold?
Heyyyyy lovely ... no not at all you could put these in the oven even ! I have seen it done with Polymer clay ... silicone is pretty much heat resistant... the only heat they cannot handle is the open flame of a blow torch ... like when popping bubbles you would need to be careful xx they can handle it but they can't for longer than a second if that makes sense xxx lol I'm rambling 🤣🤣🤣 The skeleton hand mould came with my coffin mould as an extra ... but they are available on Amazon xxxx
I'm thinking you would have issues getting the glue in it because of the opening where you put the glue in. The air being replaced with glue would need somewhere to go and would probably not allow much glue in at a time. It would make it very difficult because of the nozzle for the glue and the thickness of the glue coming out. I might try if I had a glue gun with the needle-like nozzle on the end but not with the regular, blunt style tip. I have a mold like that too so I am imagining the issues I might encounter.
okay I'm going to try this tonight why not I have already gotten so many glue gun Burns all over my fingers a little more won't hurt but this looks too cool not to try. Ok I am doing this five days later...oops but doing it live so watch me burn baby burn!!
yessss a few people have mentioned those but I have never owned any .. would be cool to see their result. This mould is from Amazon yes ... it is linked in my last few resin videos if you need the link xxx If not .. search for Wings and crosses silicone mould xx
Thank you for doing this video! I tried this by myself and it didn’t turn out. I want to do a large tree but the hot glue dries so fast. Any tips for doing a large one?
yes I found the glue drying fast - a top quality glue gun will heat the glue way hotter and allow you to pour more - but I would say do a section at a time to be honest x
@@ClairesCraftyCorner so I tried it right after asking. It didn't really work for the tiny molds I'm using but I think it might have good utility for larger ones. Temperature is tricky though
Heyyy lovely .. yes I painted the glue skull in my last video .. it was fine but then I only use it on the front of my spell book as a cheap embellishment x
That is call Mica powder ... the ones used in this video are basically colour shifting they are great xxx I will try and get the link today and put them in description box xx
Hi Harriot .. any Hot Glue should work although some guns do not heat up enough to get a smooth fill. I have not tried Gorilla Glue I don't have any knowledge on this at all sorry.
I feel like you should know that glow in the dark hotglue exists, and it is every halloween-freaks dreams come to life! I've made spider webs with the hot glue "strings", it is wonderful and so is this! I do resin.. but for a quick little seasonal decor piece, this is very kewl. Good glue gun helps I'd wager. The glow glue should definitely be used in a high temp gun.
Whatttttttttt 😱😱😱😱 how am I only learning this now ! That is too cool thank you so much for telling me 😍😍 I have seen webs with hot glue like its blown from the gun with a hair dryer or something ? So cool thank you ! I'm gonna check that out
Hi Danny ... I got that from Amazon .. if you go to my latest video you will find it linked. This video is super old lol I didn't have a storefront back then
@@ClairesCraftyCorner tyy, I think I got a swollen eye because of resin! I was hesitate to use epoxy resin because of this and now I will never use it again! I will use glue , thank you!
Well, count me in as another one who didn't know that hot glue could be used in silicone molds. At present, I only have one mold which I've used with toilet paper with less than satisfactory results. I'm going to try the hot glue method as soon as I find my glue gun - LOL!

I have a Surebonder hot glue gun which has a number of temperature settings. Based on your experience with hot glue guns and molds and not wanting to destroy my mold by too high of a temperature setting should I go to the lowest settings on the glue gun?
if you tap them on the table quickly after filling u will get a flatter back and take time to fill the corners
Do you put any sort of release or in the molds or do you just glue straight away?
Such a great idea! I'm on my third gluegun, but I've never used one. I buy a cheap one to experiment, lend it to a friend in need and then never get it back...
🤣🤣 Mizz thats very generous of you ! You are a kinder human than me 🤣🤣🤣
@@ClairesCraftyCorner Or I'm just more gullible.... 🤪
@@mizzuzie3338 🙈🙈🤣❤
Do you use any oil or anything in the mold to get the glue out?
Hi Claire , new subscriber here. Quick question! How can I attach my hot glue embellishments to fabric ?
Love this idea!
TFS!!!
Thanks lovely xxx
So fun and fast!
thanks lovely xx definitely a quick thing to do xxx
Just found your channel!!! Subscribed and rang the bell. Like your creativity, watching for more.
Heyyyy Dolly ... that is amazing thank you so much xxx
What is that powder you put befor the hot glue?
Thank you for this!
Love these 🥰
Ive heard of this but not seen it turn out well until now!!
I have a question tho.. When you put the tip of your flue gun down in there to get the hard spots, does it not melt your mold?
Oh wow!!! The skeleton hands came out great!! Where did you find that mold?
Heyyyyy lovely ... no not at all you could put these in the oven even ! I have seen it done with Polymer clay ... silicone is pretty much heat resistant... the only heat they cannot handle is the open flame of a blow torch ... like when popping bubbles you would need to be careful xx they can handle it but they can't for longer than a second if that makes sense xxx lol I'm rambling 🤣🤣🤣
The skeleton hand mould came with my coffin mould as an extra ... but they are available on Amazon xxxx
Cool. Thanks!
Very Welcome 🙏
This is so cool!!! Have you tried doing this with a 3D 2 part ice cube silicone mold? I have skulls and 🧠 , think it would work?
Ooooooooo no I havnt .... I have that mould too ... that could work xxxx ❤❤🙌🙌🙌🙌 thanks so much Anne
@@notebookluvr 🙌🙌❤❤
okay I'm going to try this tonight why not I have already gotten so many glue gun Burns all over my fingers a little more won't hurt but this looks too cool not to try. Ok I am doing this five days later...oops but doing it live so watch me burn baby burn!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 please don't burn yaself 🤣🤣🤣 I relinquish any responsibility for your burns 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@ClairesCraftyCorner but I like the burn I really do I love peeling off the melting glue from my scorched flesh you know I'm wacky
@@IndieAnnieJones1 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great idea with the mica powder! Are the molds hard to clean afterwards?
Thanks lovely ... no not at all. I use sticky tape xxxx
The color glue sticks would probably work to.. do you get the molds on Amazon?
yessss a few people have mentioned those but I have never owned any .. would be cool to see their result. This mould is from Amazon yes ... it is linked in my last few resin videos if you need the link xxx If not .. search for Wings and crosses silicone mould xx
Love the cross x
The cross was my fav for sure x thank you xxx
What r u using for color?
Love this thankyou 😊
Thank you for doing this video! I tried this by myself and it didn’t turn out. I want to do a large tree but the hot glue dries so fast. Any tips for doing a large one?
yes I found the glue drying fast - a top quality glue gun will heat the glue way hotter and allow you to pour more - but I would say do a section at a time to be honest x
Do you think you could pop them in the oven? Maybe allow the glue to fall into the recesses?
heyyy lovely .. oh I am not so sure to be honest
@@ClairesCraftyCorner so I tried it right after asking. It didn't really work for the tiny molds I'm using but I think it might have good utility for larger ones. Temperature is tricky though
@@GhouraAgur ohhhhh you did ? Good to know thank yooooooo
Great idea!!!!!❤️❤️
❤❤❤❤ thanks Darah ❤❤❤
What is the wattage of your glue gun
Cute
Thanks Sherry xx
Love this idea but all of mine came out lumpy
Awesome
thank you good to know
glad you found it helpful Mary xxx thank yooooo
CAN YOU USE THE MOLDS FOR EDIBLE THINGS AFTER USING HOT GLUE IN THE MOLDS ?
I wouldnt no xx I am not sure if this silicone is actually food safe in the first place though xxx
What is the powdet you put befor the hot glue?
mica powder :)
Have you painted the glue? I haven’t had much luck! The acrylic paint scratches off 😖🇦🇺❤️
Heyyy lovely .. yes I painted the glue skull in my last video .. it was fine but then I only use it on the front of my spell book as a cheap embellishment x
What is the powder your using for color ??
That is call Mica powder ... the ones used in this video are basically colour shifting they are great xxx I will try and get the link today and put them in description box xx
What are those powder color that you put in the mold? What is it called?
That is called Mica Powder .. or Eye Shadow x
Does any hot glue work? Is Gorilla glue too much for silicone?
Hi Harriot .. any Hot Glue should work although some guns do not heat up enough to get a smooth fill. I have not tried Gorilla Glue I don't have any knowledge on this at all sorry.
Is the hot glue not sticky to the mold?
No lovely x the mould is silicone so it is heat proof x
what is that your rubbing I to the mold first?
heyyyy Mary I would have to watch the video again to see ... but my guess is I am using sellotape to clean the mould before adding the glue x
ohhhh it is Mica powder i used mica powder xxx
I'm gonna check that out
What is the powder your using?
heyyy the powder is Mica
How do you smooth off the back of it?
I used them as decoration to stick on to things - so I never did that
Terrific Claire, would they last as long or longer than resin? ☺
Probably last as long as resin yes x if they are just sitting on a book or something similar
@@ClairesCraftyCorner thank you Claire ☺

Hi where did you get the mould in the thumbnail from
Hi Danny ... I got that from Amazon .. if you go to my latest video you will find it linked. This video is super old lol I didn't have a storefront back then
@@ClairesCraftyCorner Ty very much
Cool tip, Claire!
Billy
thanks Billy xxxx
How long did you wait for it to cure?
heyy . it cures immediately .. the bottom has gone hard before you even fill the mould
@@ClairesCraftyCorner tyy, I think I got a swollen eye because of resin! I was hesitate to use epoxy resin because of this and now I will never use it again! I will use glue , thank you!
Nice
thanks Domi :)
Great tips. Need to buy a precision hot glue gun 😅
Oh a Glue gun with a thin nib is best ! xxx
Ahh Dave's just bought a hot glue gun....... I just might give this a go....👍
Ahhhhh amazingggggggg
Well, count me in as another one who didn't know that hot glue could be used in silicone molds. At present, I only have one mold which I've used with toilet paper with less than satisfactory results. I'm going to try the hot glue method as soon as I find my glue gun - LOL!
heyyy Rachelle, ha it is such a handy thing to do x I hope you find it soon :)
