Can confirm. Have had to use my A9's in the rain multiple times, water flowing out of the LCD and had no problems. Also a boat on lake Como with lots of spray and they were fine.

I had experience shooting in the rain, soccer tournament last year with A7iv no problems, this year's St Patrick's Day with A7RV and A7IV taking photos of the parade in heavy rain on and off very wet cameras and still working fine. I think the cool part of the rain it made my photos of the parades more colourful and punchy. Both cameras still working great 👍

My experience with water in the smart hot shoe is very different. With my A9II water get into the pins, and an error of communication started to happen. I couldn't even continue shooting with it and started using my back up camera. Once the pins dried up, everything went back to normal. After that situation, I always had a hot shoe cover and no problems at all.

Great video. Thank you . Just to ask perhaps you know, is there any raincover light and compact to protect more our cameras and the same time do not loosing anything from their functionality?

This channel is so helpful and I've enjoyed the videos/content immensely. I'm new to the Sony system, and all of this has been extremely beneficial. When you're shooting on location or daily captures, do you use any filters, or do you prefer to not place more glass in front of the lense. I seldom see you use a lense hood or filter; what do you normally do to protect the front elements? Thanks.

I love my Sony A7RIV I didn’t know about the weather sealing I’m using it today in light rain ! I’ll be extra safe and tape around the lens mount and completely cover the mic part

I had a client shoot 8-ish years ago on the Hornblower/Maid of the Mist boats that bring you right up to Niagara Falls. It was windy that day so the wind carried the water to essentially pour on the boat to the point that it was almost like we were completely under the falls. Like drenched to the bone within 2 seconds level of wet - can't see more than 2 feet in front of you because it's just water...
I was shooting on my a7Rii at the time and had a raincover on it. My camera overall was fine, but there was just too much water and the internal microphone got fried and stopped working forever. Luckily, it wasn't a huge deal to me because I always used an external mic for video and for photos it didn't affect it at all obviously. But just beware of too much water getting into the microphone hole because it can damage it. But bear in mind that I was in conditions more wet than I think anyone ever will be :P I think in normal rain, it would have been fine.

My first Sony A7R died from the rain. I guess back in 2013, Sony Mirrorless cameras were not weather proofed as the newer versions are now. A freak rain cloud while i was doing landscape photography workshop at Cannonball Beach on the California coastline. Fortunately, I had my Nikon D800 DSLR and it survived. Had both cameras on a tripod doing long exposures on the beach. Did not convert to full mirrorless until the start of 2018 right after D850 was released in September 2017.

Comparing the “weather sealing” between my a7ii and my a7iv’s weather sealing was very eye opening to me. I’ve shot with the a7ii on misty rainy days and didn’t have a problem but I was never confident it could handle more than that. Looking at the gaskets and buttons on the a7iv has only solidified that lack of confidence in the a7ii’s sealing. The iv looks and feels like it’s ready to go under water when compared to the ii. I’ve shot with the a7iv on the water in misty conditions and in some pretty bad rain with no issues so far! Rip to your a7r 🫡

@@MagicWeddingPhotographer 0! I had a Z6II covered in ice rain that had to thaw out in a bathtub and melt.
Also had a workshop guest completely submerge a camera (in fresh water). We battery pulled and water was leaking out of the battery compartment. Camera turned on and worked fine 5 days later. (Tho I wouldn’t trust it as a main ever again)

I will definitely shoot in the rain for a workshop on mockup weddings, but definitely not the real weddings. Workshop models are paid so we have to create, if I put the client in the rain I’ll just get killed.
