How you do that flicky-strumming-type technique used at the start of your Hardest Bass Solo Ever for Davie
Even the first one is impossible for me😁
Yes plz
Everybody talks about how good of a bass player you are, but nobody talks about the beautiful song you just played.
It was composed by him, that's why everyone praises him
Thank you, bro! I'm so happy you took part on the collab. It turned out to be very epic indeed, a lot of amazing bassists!
Now just make sure your hand heals properly so we can hear your epic bass again in all its glory! 🔥

Level 12 *Pure euphoria*
All jokes aside, it's insane how skilled you are, Charles
Indeed

YOU HERE TOO
Haha you are not the famous guy here haha. Any ways, hello
You're everywhere wtf
Charles my buddy, thank you so much for the add ! I am very grateful to have you playing bass again on my latest single being released November 2020. Thank you for your amazing tasteful playing and always serving the song, A good musician knows how to play, a great musician knows when to play, and thats what you are ! Keep the good spirit up !!! Peace, Lars
Always a pleasure working with you!
Excellent sub call out for Lars T. Done. And thanks for all the insane talent killer bass videos.
@@PhilDixonlivestoride Thanks so much Phil !
@Vexxter LOL, thanks for the great analogy, I love it :-)
I'm so good at tapping I go from 3 straight to 11.
😂
He basically did 100 tap exercises every day during 4 years and became the Saitama of Bass. He just didn't go bald.
Nah man, he still is doin that excercise. He might become bald sooner or later.
He is just doing 99 per day so he won't go bald
One Tap Man
Okay, Davie is Genos
I have a question. What do your brain impulses look when playing those brutal polyrhythms? You basically have to have 2 seperate brains to do that so well! Freaking amazing!
😂I always have to practise sections like that REALLY slowly at first and then work up the speed. It takes about 3 times longer than usual to learn those polyphonic sections.
Thanks for your replies.. i feel smarter now
Each of his fingers develloped it's own brain
@@CharlesBerthoud yeah because if you can play it slowly you can play it quickly
You practicing piano helped with polyphony though I would think.... I imagine it gave you a different perspective of bass than others that were not inspired by it?
Absolutely brilliant Charles!
You truly are a genius of the highest quality!
Not a bass player, but I love the lesson at the end there. Super cool to show off what you can do with a technique and then showing how to do it.
I agree -- I gave it the thumb when he started the lesson at the end. I greatly appreciate the honest (and CLEAR) explanation of technique and rationale.
This is simply so humble of you for us! Learning from the T A P P God feels so much a privilege here. Awesome work as always man!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@CharlesBerthoud You are very welcome!
I can only barely do level 1 lol
Thank you for joining us Charles! We were so happy that you did and loved your part!
Great tapping tips too, especially number 2 is really important imho ☺️
the music makes me want to sleep...
so relaxing lol.
I should sleep actually, it’s almost ten o clock here in france.
Ive got school tomorrow.
Good night!
Good night
Good night 😁
Sleep well!
You got a full 8?
Oh you re french
I love it when artists mess with the speed and timing of songs, that 7/8 beat just has me crying it’s so good
I love your music!!!
Never ceases to amaze me how good your skills are. Charles is truly in a level of his own
level 1:
me: i am out.
I love to see your passion evident in every video, this is what makes you one of the best, and even taking the time to teach your viewers is amazing, I applaud that
The first 3 levels reminded me of Zelda's soundtracks xD
Yea same here. Really beautiful...
Sounds like the fairy fountain theme
It gave me the same feeling I had with Ocarina of Time Opening Theme, Link riding Epona and the 'Press Start' appearing on the screen :)
Dude level 9.5 was so sick, it sounded amazing
Charles! Thank you for this video! I’ve been playing bass for years but I never gave tapping a chance because I could never make it work or feel like I was doing it correctly. This video changed that! Following your tips (and with a little knowledge of scales) I just came up with a tapping bass line that I never thought I’d be able to play!!!
i would love a "tapping with charles wedensday" or something where he tap something slowly with us following. kinda like bob ross but tapp. iono man think about it I'm getting a bass soon and I'll follow along
It's always so refreshing to hear someone who has mastered his instrument let his musicality dominate his playing. Superb!
_"Bassists are just failed guitarists"_
-No one who'd heard an actually good bassist
I didn't know you have albums on Spotify. I´ve been listening them for about 3 days and I absolutely love them!
Charles da homie coming in clutch
Now we will all learn the way of t a p p
I need UA-cam to put more like buttons because I still can't believe how amazing sounds a bass in your hands, Charles.
I think your music brings me more years of life, cause it feels great.
"Lars is making some waves in the world of jazz"
Is this a Lars Ulrich joke? I really hope so 😂
CharlesBerthoud yes lol
I love this.
I want to try this so badly but I don't have a bass. I hope this works similarly on guitar.
You're really inspirational Charles
Anyone else wants to see Charles play some technical death metal basslines on one of these days? 🙋🏻♂️
This is the best original song I've heard in this type of videos by youtubers reviewing or testing an instrument
He is way more better than Davie at tapping TBH....
I don't know about other techniques....
NODDY I have to agree with you. And he's good at many techniques
@@nicop200 yap.. Too good actually ... 👌
Davie is slap god and meme god
Is better than Davie in ALL aspects. Davie is better than Charles only in memes
@@miguelruiz4029 Nah Davie has better reach because of his monster hands, so there are some things Davie can play better
I'm so happy I've found your channel, that makes my life so much better
That's weird... 855 likes and 0 dislikes. I don't think I've seen a video with more than 100 likes and no dislikes before :P
You summoned the haters.
There are 12 now haha
There are 15 now
HOW does this not have more views??? This is incredible!!!
Hi Charles. Thank you for always doing what you do. I know that you have many requests but as classical musician lovers, my wife and I request you to play Rachmaninov prelude in g minor on bass. I have full faith that you can do it. You’re my favourite musician and favourite existence. 😊
Man, I need to stop doubting if I'll enjoy a Charles video. I always do.
It's very helpful when you break down your techniques, than you
I got chills several times while listening to this. Great work!!
Now...the hard part is keeping low action without fret buzz...could you do a video explaining that or showing it to us? (If you can of course) THANKS!
yea that is my problem.
You are THE most impressive bassist I've ever watched man. You are the man. Thanks for this
Once again, Charles, you are incredible! Thanks so much for sharing your talents and perspectives with those of us who don't have these abilities!
I think you’re officially better than Davie504
He honestly has been for a while
no
Davie is very good with bass, but he is definitely not even close being the best.
Nah
*NO.*
I love your style and listen to you all the time. I know that it's not just about what your playing with your hands, but what those hands are playing on. A good bass setup is so key in all of this. Your bass setup is epic. Thanks for all you do!
Any advice for exercises to work on my tapping with? Just a bunch of arpeggios? Chords? Scales?
Not a bassist but a pianist. I like to practice techniques on (parts of) pieces I struggle with, as there I have not yet developed muscle memory so it's easier to judge which techniques are more efficient. Then transfer those techniques to something I simply enjoy to play, and see whether I can make it sound better with the practiced techniques.
Not sure if this is really a good way to practice as I'm self taught, but it has worked for me thus far.
Just subscribed to your channel. I have been playing bass for 35 years and I can only dream of having the skills you possess. Absolutely incredible. Cheers !!
I’ve been meaning to ask this question for a while, but I wasn’t sure if I was comfortable. I’m at the point where I’m just 🤷🏻♀️
I lost the use of my right hand. I was a musician and played anything I could get my hands on (mostly just drums, piano, bass, and guitar). I sold all my instruments ten years back out of frustration from it.
A friend pointed me to your videos and thinks I could still play bass one handed. Do you think this is even possible? I don’t want to buy a new guitar without being sure. If so, do you have any advice for making left-hand only playing actually viable?
I think you could play some pretty good bass lines with just your left hand. I can imagine with enough practice you could do it!
Ooomg i can't even imagine
I don't know about guitars, but I know that there are one-handed recorders that are excellent! If you are interested, I'll leave a link

I was thinking about how to get you on an electric guitar and I think a petal steel guitar is your best option. You could use a hollow slider on your pinky and still pluck the strings with your other fingers. And those petals and knee levers mean you can do a lot. ua-cam.com/video/NrbSL92Kz1Y/v-deo.html You don't have to play Country or Hawaiian...be creative and do whatever you want.

Charles your really good bud. The hours and hours of hard work you put in shows and your passion is the ! on it all.
Well is there someone better than u ? If yes I’m actually wondering how
I'm not sure if the laws of physics will allow that
Better not, having many more subscribers yes
Possibly Davie 504
Power Falcon Well they’ve been broken,
Davie 504 has entered the chat
@davie504 is much better, after all he has *the holy S L A P P*
Just love how incredibly skilled you are ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Charles is better than Davie in all styles and techniques... I'm 14 and I hope some day to reach Charles Level
Absolutely fantastic Charles... and great tips too
Challenge: Play Rob Scallon Rain withouth delay
Magnificent. Can you do some some Iron Maiden?
By far the best bassist on UA-cam. Great Work.
Davie504 is crying in this moment because he can’t do it hahaha
He can't tap better than Charles but absolutely better at slap
@@randomvideo1048 not even close.
Thanks man. I was looking for a good video to break me into the world of tap, and this one seems perfect. Also all levels you played sounded great and it got extremely impressive towards the end.. It sounded like/looked like you were arpeggio sweeping the entire neck! Insane!!

Hi from an older slapper
Your playing is sublime
Always blown away by your fluidity. Keep going Charles
The final level of tapping is to use your pp.
You still have long way to go
May the force be with you, AmBASSador! Thanks for 11 levels of goosebumps
Beautiful melody and good precision. Thank you for this wonderful music.
I have two more tips:
1. Use the lightest strings you can get. Lighter strings get into motion much easier than heavy ones and they have a slightly brighter tone. For me a 030 - 050 - 070 - 090 gauge is ideal.
2. Cut the frequencies below 100 Hz. This helps even more to avoid a muddy and indifferent tone.
Keep on rockin'! 🙂
Very awesome Charles!!! Awesome free bass lesson . Started off easy enough, but then geez, lol.
What a great video, Charles! From all bassist i've heard, your tapping technique is the absolute best. My suggestion for another video would be just like this one, but for slap or fingerstyle, because you make everything look so effortless and relaxed.
Wow i got to say I am so impressed like for real your tapping parts are just MIND-BLOWING.
Man your instructional videos are so great, to the point and detailed.
Thankyou for sharing 💚
Charles I saw that you were at 999k subs so I just subscribed and when I refreshed you hit 1 million! There's a good chance it wasn't me but I'm at least one of the million. Congrats and you really deserve it
Amazing to find level 10 technique and level 10 musicality in the same individual. No doubt you are one of, if not absolute, best in the world
level 4 sounds so beautiful! :)
I'd pay for a JRPG OST written entirely by Charles with ONLY bass. Beautiful work man!
It is so amazing that tapping can be done so beautifully even on a 4 string bass. For 2023, one of my yearly goals is to get into tapping. If I can get to level 3 by the end of 2023, I am going to reward myself by getting a six string bass guitar.
The whole thing was beautiful, but level 8 was just mad! I fell in love with that portion.
Videos like this take me back to when Charles was primary known as the PRO Verified bass player. Either because of his superb playing or the tips he gives to newcomers. Great video indeed, mr. Berthoud. PRO verified!
Hey Charles! You are an animal on the bass. Thank you so much for uploading this video I've been practicing my tapping and this video is great! Love this new style of video/tutorial!
Man. You inspire me so much to practice my bass. Thank you.
New sub here, watched a few of your vids now and I must say I love your "guitar face" you make when you are really getting into the music!
Charles, awesome as usual. I like knowing that you have to work to be as good as you are. It gives me inspiration to continue the drudgery of practicing. I'm 62, so I'll never be great but I can still be good enough so people know what I'm playing. 😉
Charles you are a world class musician and a huge inspiration. Keep up the awesome work!
I love how its all an actual song, more than just various levels
You've seen me say it before, but I started playin on January 15th because of you and as much as I am inspired by your "normal" videos, a video like this is so much more helpful than I could possibly ever tell you. I've been having an easier time with tapping than with slapping by a long shot but I can imagine that this advice will help me improve a ton in my tapping. If I had to pick, I would ask for a video about routines for practicing slap as well as how to access the frets closest to the pickups in a comfortable way (my fretboard is as long as your primary black bass).
Absolutely breathtaking Charles... I'm speechless
This channel makes me cry out of happiness :)
This guy is like a created bass player. Amazing!
WOW really cool piece you just brought here :D I love bass tapping, I've been listening to your work for a while, it's truly a great source of inspiration and trying to work on your patterns helped me a lot to improve my playing :D Thanks a lot Charles, for your great music and your tips ;)
Level 4 is so beautiful.
Please release a full version
Beast mode as usual. Love how smooth you make everything seem. This inspires me to want to pick up the bass again. Nothing matches that funk. Nothing!
Yesssssss thank you for this!!!! Watching right now so exited
Wow, this was great! It answered questions I asked in another video. Thank you
Thank you for Level 11. Really needed that ♥️
Really diggin those lvl 1-7. Nice calming melody and chords.
Enchanted night.. it still is my favorite song from Charles 🙌
Brother, you are the most talented bass player I am watching presently. You're classical sound when tapping is unmatched in my opinion. But it's not just classical, it's groovy and great to listen to and moove around to. Unless you have a source of reference I think you are just about the best bass composition artist in the world today. Let me know who I should listen to if you have any recommendations. Thanks Charles!
Wow! You really amazed me by your epic bass skills) You are true tap master in bass world!
I have small hands and therefore I rely heavily on tapping for most melodies and solos. This video really helped me❤️
The little tutorial.... so very helpful. Thankx.... p.s. 9.5 was the best one.
This was super interesting, loved you sharing some of your knowledge.
For anyone interested, those chords in the beginning are made with the 1 and 5 in the right hand and the 3 and 7 in the left hand.
ie. Eb and Bb in the RH and G and D in the LH.
Kinda like two power chords played a third apart (major or minor third, depending on the chord quality).
do u know the tuning for this? i was playing along by ear and the g string for level 4 has been messing me up
That's an amazingly beautiful composition, I wish I could learn it
テクニックだけでなく音楽的にも美しいのが何より素晴らしい❗
