    PRS Silversky is an excellent sounding Strat type guitar. I’d never break out $2300 for it but it is great.

      Guitarist in one of my bands has a red one. Took a spin on it (I'm the bassist). Really outstanding guitar. Don't let the purists tell you otherwise. Worth its price tag.

    I own the gretsch he's playing. Not the easiest guitar to play but the tone is killer. It definitely makes you play a certain way and I love it for it. Best part is my 93 year old grand father gave it to me and I can't thank him enough.

      @Apparatchic I think bigsbys are great the Riviera ive had for 16ish years has a bigsby on it and it holds tune really well. Can be a little awkward to restring.

    • @jonathanlong763
      @jonathanlong763 5 років тому

      @Apparatchic It's awesome to have but can make it hard to keep in tune at times. The G string and the D go out of tune pretty frequently because of the angle they leave the nut at but just making sure the nut is lubricated should fix the problem I just haven't made the investment yet. If you are looking for a jazz box style guitar I would recommend this one. The pickups are incredible, especially for clean

      True. They are very expensive, but I’ve had my Strat and Les Paul Standard for over 30 years so when you’ve got over the price you’ll be enjoying playing for many years. I’d have the blues if I bought a £10,000 + PRS with a stunning top and then dinged it on the first day or was too scared to use it on gigs in case it got stolen.

      @@cannibalsausage5767 Ibanez JEM is the pinnacle of all electric guitars as far as I'm concerned. More sustain than a gibson, more playability in the neck and better design than a Fender and it has both humbuckers and single coil so you can make it sound like both (only better). Ive heard people make it sound perfect in a crazy varieity of settings - jazz, blues, rock, metal and more.

    I've got an American Pro HSS strat and I love it, It's really versatile and feel's great to play. I also have a G&L Fullerton Deluxe Comanche in natural that just really surprised me in that you think it's gonna be just like a Strat, but when you play it you realize it's nothing like a strat. it's one of the better blues guitars I have played and owned.

  • @leftlifegolfsaga9105
    @leftlifegolfsaga9105 3 роки тому

    On the cost per blues guitar - the classics had Gibsons, Fenders, Gretsch etc, they just cost a lot less in the day. I have a B&G stepsister, which was a few Bob, but it plays lovely. I am eyeing up the Silver Sky, it’s custom shop priced, but one day I’ll get the green light from the Mrs, I am certain of it. The problem is non guitar players think you only need an electric and an acoustic. The actual equation for the right number of guitars in your collection is very simple however ;- add all the guitars you have and then +1. That’s the amount we need!

    Ah, string tension is determined by the distance between the bridge n the nut, even if the tuner was a foot away. Tension=Pitch, period. Might be it's a 25 in. scale like PRS uses on most of his guitars. Now when u bend and the string slips thru the nut it may feel like different tension but it means u have to bend the string more or less to achieve the same tension, or pitch.

    • @Viper-dz2kw
      @Viper-dz2kw 5 років тому

      I’m like 90% sure what he said is correct, I couldn’t tell you why or how that works, but when so many people in the industry state that headstock shape effects string tension ie: the reverse 6 in line adds more to the high E, I’m inclined to believe that the professionals are correct

    • @bradt.3555
      @bradt.3555 5 років тому +1

      @@Viper-dz2kw Well, I'm not trying to start a big debate but I see so much incorrect info on utube. I'm sure most are not trying to intentionally mislead people.There are some things where physics are what they are. If you ask people who are "professionals" in physics they would tell you, tension = pitch. For a given scale length you cannot change the tension without changing the pitch. Take your guitar and tune the high E ever so slightly flat, so you can barely hear it and see if you can feel it. The mind really does play tricks on us. If you measured the scale length you would find that's where the tension differences arise from. I should probably just let stuff go but I guess it's my OCD trying to help get people correct info.

    • @MrScrofulous
      @MrScrofulous 2 роки тому

      This be true. Top-wrapping follows the same mythology.

    • @bradt.3555
      @bradt.3555 2 роки тому

      @@MrScrofulous Correct, If you have less down force on the bridge and longer string between bridge and tailepiece it may slip more thru the bridge feeling looser but ultimately to get the correct note you have to bend further to get the correct tension. Tension=pitch, there's no way around the physics of it. I think people are mis-interpreting slinky for tension. There's a lot of placebo effect going on also.

  • @noire1991
    @noire1991 5 років тому +3

    I think that people that complained about and the people that defense the silver sky kind of missed the point. The guitar itself is not controversial. The problem is that PRS was a proud brand that always claimed to have the best things from the other brands but still different and better goes and makes a strat, which again is not controversial at all! It was PRS doing a strat copy the part that was kind of funny. I personally did not find offense. You play whatever makes you happy! I love my Fender strat but if you feel more at home with an Ibanez for crying out loud play it! We musicians are so quick to hate on everyone but wouldn’t the world be a more beautiful place if we all play some kind of musical instrument?

      Absolutely top quality and excellent playability. The tone of these pick-ups are amazing and, if you have seen any comparison video's between the SS and an actual 63/64 Strat, indistinguishable - certainly in a blind test.
      Compared to a real 63/64 strat, these are dirt cheap and easily rival the best that Fender make - and its not beat to crap before you buy it either....

  • @TheSavagederek

    Lets be honest , if you invest money on better kit , A its going to hold more value , in some cases gain value , B should last longer and be able to be handed down to your kids , nephews , nieces etc...and C encourage you to pick it up more if you have a guitar or bass youve dreamed of for years . When i wanted my first electric guitar when i was 9 , i wanted a Strat . I got a Jim Deacon red Strat , but i really wanted a Fender . Fast forward quite a few years to early 2000 and i bought my first US Strat . 23 years later and its still the best guitar ive ever owned , and trust me , ive had more than a few . You dont have to spend 3,4,5 grand , but stepping up from the 200-450 pound guitar , and it should be better overall .

    • @TheSavagederek
      @TheSavagederek Рік тому

      I should say , that there's absolutely nothing wrong with lower priced instruments and I'm no guitar snob , I was just saying what I believe you get when you spend a bit more . I also own Harley Benton guitars and basses , which are excellent value for money , even though the QC isn't as good , but for their low ticket price , you can't fault them . And easy to mod to your tastes .

    i bought a tele performer and i can't keep my hands off of her... like some sort of covid shut-in pervert!
    Even more so, once i jack up the gain to make it a bit dirty!
    im about to have it modified for a 5 way switch and reversed control plate, for even more fun. Im not sure you need to go very expensive, at least with the tele's ...though i must admit, the MIM felt a little weird to me for whatever reason.

    I think it's worth it to shell out 4-5 k (if you got them) on a Memphis 335 from the last two years, the LP is so overpriced and not versatile, and for strat type a guitar, there are thousands of good options, I have a frankenstrat with an Ibanez neck, it is the best neck Ive grabbed, dont underestimate the east, I think it's the springs that bring the strat sound, not anything else

    Do not like the idea of "expensive blues guitars" at all.
    This video has confirmed it for me, so... er, thanks.

    The way the LP is played doesn't make it sound like a blues guitar: so much overdrive there're no dynamics which are essential to the blues.

    Hi, Loved the video !
    On a more personal note, I need help regarding buying a used Gibson SG. I have found a piece but I’m quite not able to place the model or the year, nor is the owner able to provide these details. If you could leave your email id, I could give you more details. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
