Thanks for all the comments everyone! Just a note, I did not change any of my setup for each guitar, same amp same pedal, same reverb, just in case anyone is wondering. I may have had different results, had I tweaked the amp and pedal for each guitar. So there's that.
Tbh, it does sound like your rig has been dialled-in for the Fenders - the Epi’s can produce (different) great blues tones too but you’d have to tweak the settings to suit the P90 and humbucker pickups. All great guitars. The Tele for me! 🙂👍
74 year old newbie here. Just started to learn on an acoustic in February. Hopefully will purchase a Nashville tele in December or thereabouts. Once I have at least 500 hours of practice in. Doing three hours daily now. Thanks much. Love your podcast, playing and singing.
Mate they all sounded great. Im an old dude but after playing for 50 years I think nothing can beat a good telecaster and boys I’ve had them all. Great video.
That was fantastic! As soon as you started in on the Epiphone it just jumped out how much greater the Fenders are...especially the Tele...what a versatile guitar. Great playing and singing. Looking forward to watching your other videos.
Hey Rich, great video man, I think I would go for the Baja Tele also, been fortunate to own one for 10 years now and it just gets better and better to play. Loved the Strat and the Epiphones but the Tele knocks it out the park for me. Thanks for sharing, stay safe dude.
BEEN WATCHING GUITAR REVIEWS, DEMOS AND COMPARISON VIDEOS FOR YEARS AND I DO BELIEVE YOU'RE THE FIRST PERSON I'VE EVER WITNESSED SINGING !...THANKS FOR THE TREAT ..I LOVE GUITAR PORN IN THE MORNING. ! NOTHING BEATS A GORGEOUS GUITAR TALKING DIRTY TO AS I SAVOR MY MORNING COFFEE !!
Well I watched this vid 3 times..... And as much as I hate to say it the strat was the best sounding and had the best definition , at least for my ears. The tele sounded good as well and before you played I thought the tele would ace this test but had to change my mind after hearing the results. The gibson/epi did not rate anywhere close to the fenders, and if I had to choose the guitar I wanted to own myself the tele would win hands down..... but as much as it galls me to say it the strat kicked arse here in this shootout. In the big scheme of things I know my opinion don't mean shit.... just being honest about what I heard . Nice playing and singing though , I'm jealous lol
I have a pretty similar college and would say that the tele is my overall favorite. If I could only own one it would probably be a Telecaster. It’s hard not to love such a simple workhorse with beautiful ringing tones!
I think the Tele was the clear winner to my ears followed closely by the Strat. I think however that the notes can sound good on about any guitar but the blues is in the heart of the player.
Very cool rhythm and lead playing! And agree the Tele sounded best. Plus I’ve mentioned in one of your other videos, Tele’s seem to bring out the best in you. Killer tone.
Hi Rich. I fully agreed with you in the final decision, without knowing what your choice would be. I was surprised when at the end of the video we coid, for me, far, first the Stratocaster and secondly the Telecaster, both wonderful. Greetings Rich, nice to see you and hear you play !!!
In your hands (and voice) even some generic strings attached to a piece of wood would sound fantastic. I am a 72 old drummer, Braziian, trying to learn the blues and I still doing the very basic stuff and seem no to progress much in spite of studying it pretty regularly. I don´t have the in my veins, but I adore it. Enjoy your gift (and dedication). God Bless!
Somebody misses gigging... :) good stuff. I'd have to go with one of the Fenders. Couldn't choose though. Guess that's why I have a tele and a strat. and an LP. lol.
Tele > Strat Oddly the 339 sounded muddy, almost like it needed a more punchy boost. Even more pronounced for the Les, where all but the mids felt like there was a need to push forward of the mix. The Tele was the champ at being "front and center" to my ears. Oh, and your playing, singing and the whole performance was awesome.
I bought the Ultra Texas Tea Tele not only gorgeous in looks but it plays itself. The middle position with the S1 switch engaged is Blues/Rock tone machine. Was always a Strat guy for 40 yrs but I can’t put Ultra Tele down. I am converted. Really liked your singing as we’ll especially Sweet Home Chicago 👍🔥🎸🦅
When I think of older blues I always think 335 but for modern blues it’s Strat all the way. I was surprised how good the Tele sounded though. Great playing Rich! 🤘
I had that tele, and i had more expensive ones, and was the best guitar i ever had.....it was only 450 bucks in 2015 worth way more then that..GREAT GUITAR!
I have to admit I thought the Tele sounded best; the Strat was a great second, but what really surprised me was how those two beat out the semi-hollow 339, which is traditionally thought of as a blues machine. I like some gravel and dirtiness in blues, but the two Gibson's were just too muddy sounding. I think the settings really needed to be tailored to each guitar; that's what any of us would actually do anyways when we play them and would have been more fair to the guitars. Still, great playing and singing!
Nice playing ! My preference goes to the Tele: my first "serious" guitar. It's a very underrated guitar because of its simplicity, but you can do a lot of things in many genres with a (good) Tele. The Start sounded nice, but the pickup seemed a bit weak compared to the Tele. The 339 was surprisingly dark, as I usually dig P90's. The #2 goes to the LP in the Treble pickup position. Nice tone there. Cheers man !
Hi Rich I'm Jones I'm in uk I really liked your tube vid, I'm a singer first, good playing and comparison on you're vid,I'm trying to learn some electric guitar too, basicbluesjones
For me it was between the Tele and the Strat, though I could tell the difference. I thought the 'Gibson' designs were muddy, though the 335 was OK way up the neck. Definitely the Tele or Strat comes out on top. Oh, and a VERY NICE JOB!
Teddy Boy here, one of your subscribers and this video just showed up in my feed though it's a year old. Have to go with the Tele though I'm a Les Paul and Strat man...but gotta say, you are a great Blues Rock singer! If you ever find yourself in Tucson Arizona on a Sunday evening, drop into the Rockabilly Grill (1 mile east of I-10 at the Prince exit out to Oracle Road, hang a left and 1 block up is King street on the right is the Rockabilly and the jam session goes 5 to 9). You would be a welcome addition...most of the players are pros and would lock in to your style and choice of material. Tucson has a good little Blues and Rock scene and musicians are the supportive type rather than "cut your head" competitive jerkoffs (if you know what I mean). We would make you feel right at home. If this is ever a possibility let me know and I can get you an email or a way to TM me. I'll even buy your beers hohoho! A good time will be had by all! Gotta say this video was exciting!
For me, it's not a question of which is best. Like people, they each have their own character. They are appealing in their own way. As always stated, "The tone is in the fingers of the player". How their heart and soul is translated through the instrument.
OOOOOH My GOD ! Rich You are Blessed ! I think any guitar you pick up those fingers are gonna shine. And your voice man, You must be Praising and Thanking GOD for it EVERYDAY. Thank You so much man, and please do more videos like this. GOD BLESS TC Love from Mumbai, India.
Albert Collins played a Tele, SRV played a Strat, BB played Hollowbody but did play a Tele briefly in early years. Freddie King played a Flying V. You can really play the Blues with any kind of guitar. However when I think of guitars for Blues I always think of Lucille and Albert Collins’ Telecaster. The guitar doesn’t matter for Blues.
The Fenders cut through the mix a lot better! The neck pickups on the Epis sounded a little muffled, perhaps they need some treble boost when using the neck pickup.
Thanks for the video. I've wanted to do something like this for myself as a comparison test and the fact you did it saved me a lot of time and money. By the way you really rock. Like- I hope you play live in a band... I could feel the energy. Great stuff. The fenders sound thin (tight) and bright and cut through the music. The Gibsons sound dark and really warm. They tend to blend into the backing track.
I play 335 and strat for blues but preferred the sound of the tele. The epiphones were too muddy. Was expecting and hoping the hollow body would blow the others out the water.
Great review Rich! I was really digging the 339 tone and I’m not really a P90 guy. However I have that same 339 with the pro buckers with coil splits. I also have my strat and worn gold epi LP. I’ve been close to getting a tele at times but that twangy tone steers me away. I guess I like the glassier creamier tones of the other three I have. Oh and I just pre ordered the epi 59 outfit in honey burst from sweetwater and it’s scheduled to ship in late October. Can’t wait for it and would like to see you demo one if you get one.
Man, totally depends on that TOOOOOOOONE! Humbuckers growl more and singles are like clear water. How muddy do you want your blues? Personally, I play a strat for faster "Stevie ray" type stuff, and the slower deep south stuff I want more growl so I go to an Epiphone Sheraton II. I had a Les Paul for years, and I loved it, but it isn;t as "growly and grumpy" as my Sheraton.
I agree with you. The Tele seemed clearest and cut through the mix best without sounding muddy. Hollow body seemed least clear. Strat has its thing that makes it unique. LP good on leads but I think Tele would be as good.
The tele really cut the mix , the others are way beyond . But , you said you're a Fender guy , that's may be why the gibson and epiphone do not sound . When listening to a Robben Ford number , pretty hard to say on what guitar he's playing with . He used tele a lot , but also Les Paul , with humbuckers , with mini hum , with p90 , epiphone casino with p90 , with mini hum , sg with humbuckers , and it'allways good. Blues is in your hands , and yours prefer Fender , specially a Tele , my neighbour's hands are more on the Gibson side ,and I believe he'll sound better on a Les Paul. Your selected guitars are all really good for blues , the player's hands will make the diference
The Tele with its signature sting and spank and total simplicity is the hands down winner in my book. Albert Collins's book too! Great vocals too dude,
From Gibson with humbuckers I think the SG is more suited for blues than the Les Paul manly due to upper register access. The Gibson ES-335 semi-hollow does sound different than the ES-339 for blues especially if a P90 is included like in the video. Albert King played a Flying V with Humbuckers and got a very bright single coil sound.
The "correct tool" for the job is "priceless"...To get that cutting,"Woman-Tone-Wailing/Screaming-Over-the -Top-Attention",that "I" desire in a Blues situation,Brother, "I" NEED my Strat!!!...A Tele would certainly do-admirably,but yes, I'm a Strat-Cat...(...there is "something" a-bit "HUMAN" about a Strats sounds?...)...
Dare I say that the Tele sounded better than the Strat playing SRV? I think so, IMO. Would have thought I would like the ES over the Les Paul but the LP gets my vote. Edit: forgot to mention, Nice performance dude! Sounded great regardless of guitar.
The strat sounded exactly like the live version of Pride n Joy with SRV + Albert King... Tele sounded different, the P90s had the phat tone , Humbuckers were heavy a lot like Albert King guitar playing pride n joy ❤❤❤❤❤ you're great man
Being a hum bucker kinda guy, I never thought I'd say this but, I much preferred the clarity and bottom end of the Tele over the other 3 choices. I don't really understand why the Stratocaster is so much preferred by most Blues players, but so be it. My 2nd choice would be the Les Paul; I just love the warmth of humbuckers and and guitars ability to sustain so well. While I fully expected a great Blues tone from the 339, for me it was the biggest disappointment of all. Great comparison and outstanding playing! Thank you!
I thought the Tele sounded best. Wasn’t a bit surprised to hear you say it was your favorite. I have an American Special Tele, and an Epi Sheraton, and the Tele is my favorite. I even play it in the church band.
I loved this match up. I thought Tele over Strat and the rest, which I did not expect. Enjoyed your playing now follow you on spotify. thanks for this video.
Than everyone has his/her own personal choice,i think there's so many different things and personal character, tastes for make a choice to a guitar fir a genre of music, and it depends a lot about type of pickups and electronics tough.😉👍🏻
I never been a tele fan… but I agree, it did sound the best. Second I’d say that les Paul really was underrated. It sounded almost just as good maybe even more crisp on the chords.

Telecaster has the chops for blues, country and rock. My go to.
The answer is, all of them.
Thanks for all the comments everyone! Just a note, I did not change any of my setup for each guitar, same amp same pedal, same reverb, just in case anyone is wondering. I may have had different results, had I tweaked the amp and pedal for each guitar. So there's that.

Great video Rich, a perfect illustration of how much better single coils cut through the mix. Keep up the great vids
That was fantastic! As soon as you started in on the Epiphone it just jumped out how much greater the Fenders are...especially the Tele...what a versatile guitar. Great playing and singing. Looking forward to watching your other videos.
How does this video have less than 3k views? I'm 26 just got into the blues from classical guitar/ acoustic and singing. You are awesome!!!
Great bit of singing Rich! 😎 I enjoyed listening to all of them personally, great playing buddy.
I have that same Baja. Under 7 lbs. sounds amazing! My favorite guitar
Hey Rich, great video man, I think I would go for the Baja Tele also, been fortunate to own one for 10 years now and it just gets better and better to play. Loved the Strat and the Epiphones but the Tele knocks it out the park for me. Thanks for sharing, stay safe dude.

Tele vs ES 339 and the Tele won for me in this particular tone sample. Nice job too Rich !!
I have a pretty similar college and would say that the tele is my overall favorite. If I could only own one it would probably be a Telecaster. It’s hard not to love such a simple workhorse with beautiful ringing tones!
True
I think the Tele was the clear winner to my ears followed closely by the Strat. I think however that the notes can sound good on about any guitar but the blues is in the heart of the player.
I went in to get some shopping advice and in the end I just enjoyed the music. Congratulations! Great voice and you play like God himself!
Very cool rhythm and lead playing! And agree the Tele sounded best. Plus I’ve mentioned in one of your other videos, Tele’s seem to bring out the best in you. Killer tone.
The Tele for blues for sure! Wasn't even close.
Rick that was excellent playing and vocals. Both together wow!!
After lots of comes and goes I have now a Tele, A Strato and a 339. Happy at last!
I like the most the Fender Stratocaster for Blues, but I also like both the Gibson Les Paul and ES-335 too.
Baja telecaster is very versatile.. trying to find me one.. great video
Hi Rich. I fully agreed with you in the final decision, without knowing what your choice would be. I was surprised when at the end of the video we coid, for me, far, first the Stratocaster and secondly the Telecaster, both wonderful. Greetings Rich, nice to see you and hear you play !!!
I tried Les Paul, Strat and Tele. Your video confirmed Tele is king for blues! thanks!
The Tele was bright, clean and bold.
thought this was going to be a typical guitar comparison video. was very surprised how talented you are. 👏 new subscriber! great job!
Thanks!
Yours videos are Very Nice!!! Perfect comparison!!! Congrats from Brazil!!! Paulo
You have a great tone Rick, and you can sing too, congrats, keep UP the good work that with Gods help you Will go a long way! The tely!!
You are VERY talented. Gifted with a great voice! I liked the Tele.

Rich,I thought for pride and joy the tele stood out for me,on Kansas city I thought the 339 just winged it,amazing playing.
They all sound good the way you play them but I agree that the Telecaster punched through the best . Greetings from Liverpool UK!

Hey rich- you rock star you! Outstanding! The tele stole the show bro! ✌🏻❤️🙏🏼. Bw
Just for laughs i plugged in my 50's Classic Vibe Strat and played along with both tracks and i sounded great :) LOL
Nice!
Pure wow.... did not expect this.
Clicked on for the comparison but stayed for the fantastic performance.
This is absolutely next level awesome 👌

Tele ALL Day Long! I'm late to the Tele party but am quickly appreciating what a Beast it is. Love the one I recently bought! Thank You for the vids
Great demo Rich , Stevie Rave On .
Albert Collins played a Tele, SRV played a Strat, BB played Hollowbody but did play a Tele briefly in early years. Freddie King played a Flying V. I liked them all but my favorite was the LP.
Great singing btw.. nice.
Rich: Thanks so much for the honest evaluation. Let’s hear more.
Yes first great Jamming and vocals brother.... I also love the Telecaster But My Gibson les Paul 60 standard is my favorite.
I love the Les Paul tone and maybe the choice of the Epiphone was not quite LP; but like yourself, I preferred the Tele! Good comparison!
Dude. Nice playing! I love SRV! Amazing video. Subscribing! *EDIT* You're voice is great too! Awesome singing.
Thanks!
For me , Tele and 339 Rich. Solid skills man great playing 😁
The Fenders cut through the mix a lot better! The neck pickups on the Epis sounded a little muffled, perhaps they need some treble boost when using the neck pickup.

The Tele stood way above the rest.
What an awesome video! Tele for me
Man, totally depends on that TOOOOOOOONE! Humbuckers growl more and singles are like clear water. How muddy do you want your blues? Awesome video my friend
I agree with you. The Tele seemed clearest and cut through the mix best without sounding muddy. Hollow body seemed least clear. Strat has its thing that makes it unique. LP good on leads but I think Tele would be as good.
I prefer the Tele or the LP. If I had my choice it would be the Tele! Thanks Rich! Great Demo!

I love the tele, bright and crisp sound.
You play so good a wash board would Rock..Iam into the Strat...then the Eppi LP...
The Tele with its signature sting and spank and total simplicity is the hands down winner in my book. Albert Collins's book too! Great vocals too dude,
Thanks Richard!
@@RichBischoff However, Mike Bloomfield did the LP justice with his superb playing on Albert's Shuffle on the First Super Session album.
@@murpsman nah. The strat completely destroyed and humiliated the telecrapster.
He sure did. however, he played a Tele with Butterfield. Clapton also kicked ass on an LP with Mayall.
Dang!! Awesome Video!!
Tele and LP are my fav. That Tele sounds amazing
Changed my mind! The ES!
great playing loved the telecaster the best
That was my choice as well! Right off the bat I knew.
Les Paul was my favorite followed by the Telecaster. Kinda surprised me.
All four sounded good though.
Agree with you Rich, they are all nice guitars, but I play the blues on a telecaster, neck pickup. Can't beat it.
From Gibson with humbuckers I think the SG is more suited for blues than the Les Paul manly due to upper register access. The Gibson ES-335 semi-hollow does sound different than the ES-339 for blues especially if a P90 is included like in the video. Man U sing and u play so gooood🤘🏽🔥
Thanks!
Dare I say that the Tele sounded better than the Strat playing SRV? I think so, IMO.
Would have thought I would like the ES over the Les Paul but the LP gets my vote.
