    Great review, from a fellow Brit! Hard to find any reviews of this tub, however, just a suggestion (I know that you've seen it before) but the music was driving me insane, SO stressful and distracting!! If you've still got the original edit, remove the music and reupload it - this video is clearly popular, so nobody will mind a reupload. Keep the two online in parallel.

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly, I deleted the original not long after posting due to a lack of storage - something I now really regret!
      I've tried putting the video through some filters to help out the vocals, but it only made it sound worse.
      I can only suggest listening with crappy laptop speakers and it helps!! If you use headphones the problem is way worse...

    Nice review. I've been looking at one of these for a while as I think the hydro function would be of more benefit for aching limbs. I hadn't realised how loud these spas are in air mode so agree that personally I would probably tend not to use this mode but I'm sure the kids would have great fun whatever.

    thanks for saying the pro model has the jets. It's the jets that I was really interested in. I have a jetted tub in the house but the water cools off pretty quickly within 15 minutes usually and can't reuse it since its not heated. So refilling with hot water takes time and money

    Hi Adam. Thanks for the videos. I've found them very helpful when deciding which hot tub to get. We ended up with the Hawaii Hydrojet Pro too. We've had it for 6 weeks now, we're very happy with it. Only complaint is not being able to use the water heater while the Hydrojets are on. Just a quick question..... Do you leave your water heater on permanently at a set temperature? I'm wondering if it's more cost effective or to use the timer function so it's off overnight then heats back up during the day? Thanks again, Justin

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  6 років тому +2

      thanks for your question, justin. i don't leave my water heater on permanently. generally, i heat it during the day and turn it off at night. as i work from home, i've never felt the need to use the timer and find it a bit clunky, so just turn on in the morning if i intend to use the tub that day/evening. sometimes i leaves it off for several days in a row if i know i'm not going to use it and heat up again from scratch. also, i have solar panels on my house, so it makes sense to heat when sunny and the cost to heat is negligible. hope that helps. adam.

    Hi Adam, thank you for the great review!
    Assuming an outside temperature of about 22 degrees Celsius, how quickly does the water temperature drop when using the hydrojets? Given the sound, I prefer the hydrojets, but if I read correctly you can not leave the heating on at the same time. Is this correct?
    If you only use the air bubbles, does the water stay warm longer compared to the hydro jets?
    I want to buy a Lay-Z and doubt between the Hydrojet and the Hydrojet-Pro (price issue)

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  4 роки тому

      It takes quite a while for the water temperature to drop when using the hydrojets. Normally an hour or so before it starts to feel like it has cooled off even though you can't heat at the same time. The warmer the air temp, the longer this takes.
      As the airjets introduce cold air into the water, I find that they cool the water quicker. Even with the heating on, the temperature drops if the air is cold.
      If choosing between the Hydrojet and Hydrijet Pro, I would say that kids love the bubbles and they are a nice feature to have.

    When using the hydrojet option only, does the water temp drop in use. They say when using the air bubbles it cools the water down slowly (even with heater left on)

      Mark Hayward I’ve just set my hot tub up for this year and an about to make a 12 month review video. Generally, I’ve been very pleased with it and it survived the winter ok. My only niggles are the noise - especially the air bubbles - and the timer isn’t very easy to use.

    Thanks you for your explanation. Just one more question; can you leave the heating on when you're in the bath but not using any jet?
    In the manual I read about the timer for the heating (max. 48 hours), does this mean that you have to activate the timer every 48 hours or can the heating also stay on longer without using the timer?

    Hi, good review so thanks for that. Regarding the jets and heater, does the heater remain on when the jets are on? - I'm reading that some of these don't heat so the temperature can drop dramatically. Also, any idea of costs of running this?

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  4 роки тому

      The heater will stay on in combination with the airjets/bubbles but not the hydro jets.
      The airjets/bubbles do cool the water quite a lot as it's pumping cold air into the water, and even with the heater on it will start to lower the temperature over time. The Airjet models that can't heat with the bubbles lose temperature quite fast.
      With the hydro jets running, it makes no difference to temperature, so it does cool down but not too fast even without the heater.
      Sorry, not sure how much they cost to run, and it depends on your tariff. I have solar panels and only heat it during the day, so didn't see any change to my bill.

      Arthur VanRooy I bought this from The Range, to make a small saving vs direct from Lay-Z-Spa. However, it was last years model so does not have the salt system.
      I’m not sure of the value of the salt system. The floating tablet dispenser works well and easily maintains the chlorine level.

    Great review, simplifies what some people make seem like rocket science! I’ve got one on the way and just a bit unsure about a couple of things regarding switching it off at night, so a couple of stupid questions for you 🥴... When you say you turn it off at night, a lot of people I know who’ve recently bought these have been saying you have to keep them on to keep the water filtered properly. From watching your video I would disagree with this from how you explain that you turn on in the morning and check the PH levels etc. Also if I was to turn it off at night could I disconnect the pump from the tub? I’m guessing it doesn’t really serve any purpose if you’ve turned it off?

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  4 роки тому +2

      Ryan Sharkey I would say it’s fine to turn off at night. It’s probably not necessary to disconnect the pump.

      I've had my Hawaii for 3 years now and it's bearing up ok.
      The main problem I've had it with small holes appearing over winter the last two years - usually on the crease lines where it's been folded up for storage. A bit of work with glue and patches has kept it going.

      Not had an issue with discolouration from the sun. The rain pooling can leave dirt that needs a bit of a scrub though.
      I find the lid takes the brunt of issues, while the main tub body looks ok even after a few years use.

    • @Tsamados
      @Tsamados 2 роки тому

      @@SailingAquila this is underneath the cover. So not from the sun or rain pooling. The only thing I can think is it's from the chemicals in the hot tub.

      Niko Marin if the levels are all ok and the people using it are having a shower first, then can’t be certain on what’s causing the foam. You can get an anti foaming chemical to add that might help. Good luck.

    Just a couple of questions do you leave your hot tub on overnight are do turn it fully off? I’m not sure whether to leave it on just have filter system on or turn the full thing off... I have only had my hot tub for about three days.

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  6 років тому

      Waddiee MCOC I turn mine off at night and often have several days between use. I usually turn it on in the morning for use that afternoon/evening. It’ll retain quite a lot of it’s temperature overnight.

    When do you pack your spa away for the colder months?

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  2 роки тому +1

      Informally pack away in Oct/Nov, and get out again in April/May.
      The main concern is frost damage. Unless your tub is rated to be outside below 3 degrees and it plugged in so it can heat up, there's a risk you could freeze the water and damage the pump or tub.

      yeah, I know it's way too loud. sadly, I don't have the original video files any more. I did try running it through filters to lift the voice part of the audio and that just sounded worse! I have learnt on my later videos and use music less.

    Great video, love the calm way you explain things and get straight to the point with all the important things. Love the 1 Degree per Hour rule, thats a great way to think of it. I am upgrading my LayZspa so knew most of what you said but its so nice hearing you say what I have self taught myself. I have subscribed and look forward to your other vids. I also love the drone shot, looks like a Mavik Pro, ive got one of those aswell. Now then, Im off to purchase one of these from LayzSpa, they have just emailed me with a 10% off code which if anyone wants to know is RELAX10. Thanks again. Nigel.

    Does this model heat when the bubbles are on ?

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  6 років тому

      diamonddave77 Yes, all the Hydrojet Pro models can heat at the same time as the air bubbles are on. Also the jets and bubbles work together too. The heat and jets cannot be on at the same time.

    Hi Adam. Thanks for making such a great video.. You explain it all really well! I have just bought a Palm Springs Hydrojet, and Ive had it now for 5 days. I initially gave it a "shock" dose of Chlorine when I set it up. The Chlorine level dropped over the first night to a sensible level so I could use it. Lovely! I then put the Chlorine floater in to try and maintain normal level, but after coming back from a night away (so two days with no use) I tested the water and the Chlorine level was sky high! so I thought I better not get in it.. I took the cover off and ran the jets to try and get rid of some Chlorine and Ive left it tonight with no floating dispenser at all, and Im hoping the level will be okay tomorrow. Can you tell me how many holes in the dispenser you have exposed to the water? and did it take you long tweaking it to work out how much it requires? (I have the same dispenser). Thanks again! Mike.

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  6 років тому

      mikey boy glad you found the video helpful. Yes, it is easy to over do he chlorine. If you’re not using the tub then you don’t always need to put the float in. I use just one tablet in it and have the vents all open, but only put float in after use or if levels starting to go down.

    Instead of all the chemicals that you use, u can just add 2kg og spa salt in to the water when u fill it up and the clear water system will make it to natural chlorine

    • @markgerrish6750
      @markgerrish6750 3 роки тому

      @kenneth dahl - I am currently researching just this! Does the salt water corrode the pump? What do you mean "the clear water system"? It's a bit of a minefield convering to salt so I'd love your input! Cheers Kenneth...or anyone else!!

      I think Covid-19 might have reduced manufacture/distribution rather than it being discontinued. In the UK, most Lay-Z-Spa models are sold out everywhere including this one. New stock isn't going to be available until June according to the UK Lay-Z-Spa website.

    hy adam... ...i bought one a week ago i,m an expat living in dk and seriously thought i was buying the salt chlorinator one!!!!( long story)! used the filter button as the chlorinator button.... added salt and off we went...all my test strips were perfect apart from high ph bought the ph down powder all seemed well but 5 days after the walls and base were so slimy!!! yuck....we emptied it on sunday...now i've washed cleaned and dried after watching your video!!! thanks... any way,,,do i need to first chlor shock my water after filling and then go over to the tabs in the floater i've found some chlorine fri 3 in one tabs that will hopefully maintain my water.. ..do you leave the lid on and pump working when you add chemicals _ i have tried to contact lay z spa uk but they have at least a 7 day wait for an email reply...... hoping you can give good advice to an expat....keep up the videos was loving this spa until sunday.....need quick good advice hopefully filling it back up this weekend!!!

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  6 років тому +1

      Clara Maddison hi. Yes, shock first with powder chlorine. Then use tabs to maintain. You don’t need to keep pump running with tab dispenser. It’s best to have temp up to at least 20 degrees centigrade when adding powder chemicals and keep the pump running. I usually give a blast of air bubbles to mix up. Hope that helps.
