      Dear Fran, I have a saltwater system from Intex (which produces chlorine from salt, which is way less aggressive than before), we all suffered from chlorine, now its no problem to stay in the pool for a prolonged time. Also when I get the feeling it needs some more disinfection, I add some active oxygen tabs with a swimmer (e.g. when not using the pool for a week or two). Cheers 😎

    • @SailingAquila

      Once you get the levels right, it should remain ok for a few days or until you use it. So, you should start using the dispenser after first use or the following day - whichever comes first.

    I have watched both your videos (bother very helpful) and spent plenty of time playing with strips and chemicals. As mid week hot tub don't really happen around work etc the hot tub sits empty, then filled from hot tap so is full and ready to use in under 2 hours. Then normally leave filled over the weekend then drain till next use. I'm wondering for 2 of us using for a couple of days how much need to worry about chemicals? Normally start with 5-10g chorine when level of tub high enough to have pump and bubbles to mix them while filling, then add 5g the next day if going to use in evening, and again for following evening. Thinking to swap to bromine aswell. But for limited use don't want to be fighting chemicals to get right. Have filled no chemicals and drained just for a evening, but like idea of having ready for a few days.

    Hello Adam, I have a question please. Do you have to put the 4 teaspoons of chlorine in every water change or can you just put enough in to set the level, I put in the 4 teaspoons of chlorine and level off the clock, I hope tomorrow the levels will start to come down so I can start to sort TA next then finally PH. Also in your video you mentioned a TA builder. I live in south west water region would you recommend to get a TA builder and how much would you add to around 1100Ltrs please

    We appear to be lint or fluff on the inside pleats of our filters.( the clean or pump side of the filter) And there it get stuck.
    If you look through the centre hole a separate the pleats you can see it.
    Cannot understand why its on the inside.
    Never run the tub without a filter and change it daily.

    • @SailingAquila

      Balancing the TA and PH is the trickiest bit really - especially when the TA is too high. Certain chemicals do a better job of adjusting one at a faster rate than the other. You can buy a specific TA reducer, that can be used in combination with PH+ if necessary, to get them both right.

    Hi Adam, thanks for these videos you explain it much better than other sources of info, can I ask you a question, There is like a white slime or film in the water, should the water be emptied an refilled or could shocking the water clear it and also what’s the best way to prevent this, thanks again for the great videos.

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  4 роки тому +1

      MrChrisLiverpool if you’re getting slime or film, usually that’s from the chlorine levels being too low or the people using the hot tub not having a shower before getting in the tub. You can try shocking it to see if it fixes it, if not then replace the water.

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  Рік тому

      The inside of the pipes shouldn’t need a clean. The filters stop debris going in and the chlorinated water should keep them free of build up.
      The filters can be rinsed under a tap to clean off. After a while they start to become more clogged/dirty and need replacing.

  • @IanRobert86
    @IanRobert86 4 роки тому

    What routine would you recommend for the pump and maintenance of the heat levels when you’ve used the hot tub. I’ve been leaving the pump on constantly and through the night is there anything wrong with this or can it be just done when you using the tub?

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  4 роки тому

      There's no need to leave the pump on overnight. It will work to clean the water when heating and keeping the chemical levels right is more important.
      In terms of heating, again the chemicals will work even if you let the tub go cold overnight.
      If you're planning on using it within a day or so, some people like to set it to 25-30 and leave it on so that it's ready to use sooner. Hope that helps.

Really hope you reply and I hope this isn't a daft question but on the initial chemical set up, on adding each chemical in turn whether it be chlorine shock, alkalinity builder, ph plus or minus should we be running the filter, heater or both to help mix each chemical before waiting an hour to retest the levels? Thanks, Mike.

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  3 роки тому +1

      You don’t have to run anything, but the filter/heater will both help mix it better. Normally, you’ll have the heater on anyway as you’re likely to be getting it up to temperature.

    Thanks so much for your really helpful guide.
    However! What I need to know is…is the balancing a constant battle and something that never gets to correct levels. I’ve had my lazy spa 3 days now and have not got all 3 levels in the recommended ranges. I get chlorine right, and then alk and ph goes down! So frustrating. • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  4 роки тому

      The tablets should be able to maintain the chlorine levels between uses and there shouldn't be the need to top up with granules too. That's assuming the TA and PH are both right as they help maintain the chlorine level a bit?
      I use a float rather than the ChemConnect, so wonder how well the ChemConnect adds chlorine in the water when the pump isn't on?
      Maybe try buying a tablet float and see if that helps? Sorry, not sure what else to advise...

    Hello Adam 👋 I just purchased at inflatable hot tub on 4-25-20 and this is my first time having a hot tub,I don't mean to sound stupid but when not in use what should the filter be on and should I keep the heater on 24/7 ? Also it's been up & running now for us only 2days and so far I have left the heater on so it could obviously heat up after I filled it & I have left the little filter button on also 24/7. By the way I love the videos they really helped me especially because I am a first time buyer. I did go with bromine because my daughter is allergic to many chemicals and eventually I would like to go to salt water like our Coleman pool that we converted. Do you have any suggestions on going to salt? Here's one of the chemicals my daughter is allergic to- propolene glycol...

      A few general tips - keep it clean and chemicals balanced, avoid sitting on the walls, and protect from cold and sunlight. I got a couple of small holes in mine from creases put into it when folded up for winter - I might store mine in the garage still lightly inflated this winter to avoid issues.

      @@SailingAquila Excellent advice Adam, especially about keeping it inflated during storage. The heavy duty Gazebo I have ordered with sides should give it a certain amount of protection from the sun and cold weather but as soon as the outside temperature gets to about 10°C it will be stored away. I wouldn't have thought about keeping it slightly inflated rather than folding as you say. I will also make sure the kids don't sit on the sides, another point I would not have thought of. With all these ingredients hopefully we'll get an extra couple of years out of it.
      Again, your videos have been priceless. I have learned so much from your videos. Thanks very much. Jim

    2 question you might have answered somewhere else...
    If I use my spa 4 times a week in average and do it around 5 months, do I have to change the water and how often...
    And another thing. Do you have a smart way to clean the bottom without having a watervacuum-cleaner.
    And thanks again for your UA-cam channel :-)

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  4 роки тому

      If the water is kept clean, you can avoid needing to change it for a long time. Some people keep the same water for the whole season. For me, if using 4 times a week, I'd replace the water every month or so.
      I use a net to keep the bottom of the tub clean of bits or scoop out some bits by hand.

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  4 роки тому +1

      I've not had this problem myself, but most stains on hot tubs come off by scrubbing with a cloth. As this hasn't worked, I'd try using a kitchen or bathroom cleaning spray, moving up to a tiny bit of bleach if still struggling. It's also worth trying a more abrasive cloth like a foam scourer, or you can buy hot tub specific pads. In all instances, give the tub a good rinse off with clean water afterwards to get rid of the cleaning spray/bleach before refilling. Good luck.

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  3 роки тому

      You should clean the filters regularly as soon as they become dirty - often with discolouring, accumulation of hair etc. Usually, a rinse under a tap or with a hosepipe brings them back to a clean condition.
      If it's really dirty, some people put them in the dishwasher.
      In terms of replacing, it should only be needed if can't get it clean again.

      @SailingAquila  4 роки тому +1

      It sounds like there could be particles in the water you're using, which could be related to the hard water you mention. Minerals in the water can be invisible when you first fill the tub and over a day or two can bind together and become more visible. There are a few things to try - you can simply try removing from the bottom of the tub when it's settled (with a fine net or one of those hot tub hoover accessories), you can get hot tub clarifier that will further bind the bits together so the filter will remove or you could try fitting a water filter to the tap you use for filling the tub (could be quite expensive!).
      Alternatively, it could be bits coming from the hot tub users. Always make sure they shower before use and don't bring bits into the tum on their feet.

      There are some complicated maths on this, and lots of variables like what the air temperature it, what electricity tariff you're on and how well insulated the tub is. However, I'd say the main point is that it depends on how long it's going to be before the next use and the below can be used as a rough guide:
      If you're using daily then keep at around 35 degrees and then boost up to 38-40 two to three hours before you want to use it.
      If it's every other day, maybe up to 2-3 days between use, then lower to 26 degrees and put up to 38-40 six or seven hours before you want to use it.
      If you're not going to be using it 3 or more days, then turn it off and reheat from cold.

      Firstly, bromine and chlorine should never be used together. Always use only one or the other.
      The green slime suggests low chlorine/bromine. Not sure if using together has stopped the test strip from working properly?
      Also, and I don't have one myself, I'm uncertain how the ChemConnect adds to the water if the hot tub is turned off. I guess with the vents open it works like a float?

      Stephanie Guilmenot are you are asking why not cut out the chemicals altogether? Standing water becomes a breeding ground for bacteria and algae. As the water is warm, this accelerates the growth of these. Add the fact that people are sitting in it and shedding body oils, skin etc. The chemicals are essential to keep the water safe for people to use it otherwise you would be having to change the water every few days.

    • @SailingAquila
      @SailingAquila  4 роки тому

      As other comments are suggesting, using fresh, clean water would require emptying and refilling for every use. Otherwise, bacteria would accumulate very quickly and the water would become very unpleasant within a day or two. Using chemicals is an essential part of keeping the water clean and safe for everyone using a hot tub.
