I’ve been covering for 15 years when I pick up a piece of wood I visualize what I wanna do with it and what I want to make out of it and it comes out just like I want it to just remember one thing that’s what you want not what somebody else wants. Good luck God bless.
NBF knife. This is getting back to the basics, using found wood rather than the standard basswood blocks and using an every day pocket knife. My grandfather was an avid whittler and I inherited his pocket knife. I'm going to give it a honing & stropping and try it out on some green wood. Thanks for the inspirational video!
NBF knife. Another great tutorial. I appreciate your having both verbal and non-verbal approaches to your instruction. Thank you for helping those of us who are learning!
Thank you Very much for making Videos I really want to pick up this hobby and start learning how to Focus and Be Creative with a Knife and simple piece of wood
Wow. A lot for me to unpack there. But I have a bunch of polar branches about that size from some trees that came down in a park a couple of months ago. I think I now have an idea of what I might use them for. Thank-you!! NBF Knife.
Green wood is so nice to whittle and carve with, it's so soft it's almost like peeling vegetables. I live in the U/K and quite like to whittle with Sycamore, which is a type of Maple. Your wood spirit carving is so very close to my own.
NBF knife. There is something very satisfying when you draw a sculpture out of a branch without it losing its 'branchness'. I bought myself an Opinel for walks in the woods for this very reason. I love how you transition from bark to cambium to the sapwood it really a lovely integrated effect
NBF Knife would work great for this type of work! 👍 I'm going to have to do some trimming around the house! 👍 I'll have to save some various sizes for different projects, such ass this. 💯 So many ideas and such little time! Thanks for sharing! They came out Beautiful! 👍 Have a wonderful day/evening! ✌
NFB knife. I made a honey dipper for a relative with maple with a stanley utility knife. It has a real nice natural finish. As always thank you for teaching amatures like myself
NBF knife-thank you again for the work you put in. I wanted to tell you about a case knife I saw. It’s a mini trapper. It comes in S35vn steel. That’s a superb edge that lasts and lasts. I have one and I set it up for carving. Smooth as butter on a summer day picnic. Put it in your hand whenever you get a chance. Puts a GEC to shame.
NBF knife. Boy, nothing tests the spirit of a wood whittler than a fresh piece of natural wood. 😅. Last Christmas I carved my brother a cowboy out of cherry wood, turned out great but my thumb was sore for at least 1 week. (Love a good wood spirit!)
Fantastic project, could find a stick and carve about anytime you like. I have a pocket knife but forget to take it with me, it is much larger than the rough rider though - thanks for sharing - NBF knife
"NBF knife" we have silk trees that grow like weeds around here. They are great for green whittling. Alot of the bass wood I've been getting has been really hard for some reason.
I have never carved wood for a silk tree - is it the same as a mimosa tree? I have some old/hard basswood that is only good for very small whittles. Thank you! 👍✌
NBF KNIFE : ) Wow, looks great. I like your work without stripping the bark of the maple. Isn't there any shape change after completely dried when you carve the wet, green wood?
I keep the bark on to slow the drying . . . also like the look 😉. Yes it will undoubtedly check and shrink, but that's OK it just adds character! Thank you! 👍✌
I could not locate a serial number on the knife, it is abot 16 years since I purchased it. The original order form has RR599. Whittling is a great hobby! 👍✌️
NBF Knife. It's interesting how different carving green wood looks like versus carving dry wood. Do you finish off the carving with something afterward? I am wondering how prone wet wood might be to crack after drying.
I could never have whittled this in a seasoned piece of maple, it has to be green or you are in for a tough time with a pocket knife. The 2 pieces I did will likely shrink and check a bit, but it just adds character. Eventually I will finish with some oil and wax. Thank you!👍✌

Yes, a bit of imagination can go a long way. Thank you! 👍✌
Best yet👍

Thank you. New "quite" video coming out today! 👍✌
Wonderful detail! Fun to watch! Thanks! My first carvings were wood spirits...they looked like a dog chewed a face into a stick!
Thank you very much!👍✌

Poplar should be a bit easier to carve than maple. I would never have been able to do this on a seasoned piece of maple. Thank you! 👍✌
NBF Knife. Whoa over the edge on this one. Hair, mustache and beard details are amazing. Great job.....
Thank you Kevin, much appreciated! 👍✌
NBF Knife. Sometimes it’s cool to watch quiet carving, been whittling about. A year and a half, never thought it could be so relaxing
I agree, it is relaxing. Thank you! 👍✌
NBF Knife Thank you for making videos, watching you work relaxes me.
That is cool to hear. Thank you! 👍✌

Yes, best to whittle when the wood is green. I have used Sycamore in the past - I have to find some a give it another go. Thank you! 👍✌

Time is the rarest of commodities, wisely spent it pays great dividends. Thank you! 👍✌
“NBF knife” neat little project I like the idea of using a regular pocket knife
Yes, an old pocket knife is always fun to use. Thank you! 👍✌
NBF knife, nice video, I will definitely try to carve it too
Yes, definitely give it a go. Green wood is a most . . . if its something hard like maple. Thank you! 👍✌
I've been watching your videos for a while next one i'm going to try whittling knife whittle NBF knife
Hey that is great, it's a nice little - enjoy! Thank you! 👍✌

Honey dipper from maple with a Stanley - very cool!!! Thank you! 👍✌
NBF Knife. Love the eyes and crows feet on this one! You surprised me when you dropped it and ‘pop’ went the top! 😂
Got to have the crows feet 😉. Thank you Lori!👍✌

Cherry is some tough wood to carve, beautiful looking though! 👍✌
Use a leather thumb guard easy to make. Saves ur thumb. ❤
NBF Knife This was the video that grought me to your chanel. Something definitely woodsy theme when I'm out with the Scouts.
Welcome to the channel and thank you! 👍✌
NBF Knife. This is what I imagined whittling to be like before I found other videos on the tube of you!
Sure is, nothing like a piece of fallen branch and an old pocket knife for whittling! Thank you!👍✌
“NBF Knife”. Another great video. Keep them coming.
Will do. Thank you!👍✌
I look forward to the day where I can 'create' rather than follow a pattern or video. You make it look easy. Oh, and NBF Knife! Thanks!
You will get there! Thank you! 👍✌
Fantastic project, could find a stick and carve about anytime you like. I have a pocket knife but forget to take it with me, it is much larger than the rough rider though - thanks for sharing - NBF knife
Yes, the Rough Rider is a bit small for my liking, but it does get the job done. Thank you!👍✌

NBD Knife. This is great. We've got a lot of maple in the area, so it'd be easy to find a branch like this.
Give it a shot - just make sure it is green if you are using a knife. Thank you! 👍✌
NBF knife, great video! I have a bunch of trees the back yard and I'm going to try making one of these with one.
Definitely give it a go! Thank you! 👍✌
NBF knive. Hopefully someday I can make it look this easy. Great vid
I am sure you will! Thank you Tom.👍✌
NBF. This really made me want to carve a wood spirit, it will be my first spirit that I have carved.
No time like the present to give it a shot! Thank you! 👍✌
Интересно, сколько времени занимает такая работа?
от 30 до 45 минут. 👍✌
NBD knife, love your carving videos, keep them coming.
Thank you! 👍✌
NBF knife! He reminds me of a Slavic Eastern Orthodox priest. Beautiful carving...thank you ! How about doing an Icon carving video?
My wife would be happy - she is Slavic! Icon carving - interesting, I will have to give it some thought. Thank you very much! 👍✌
Thank you for posting this. Fantastic!
You are welcome! 👍✌
This was a pleasure to watch incredible carving🤙🏼
Thank you, much appreciated! 👍✌️

"NBF Knife". Awesome detail with a pocket knife! You gave me some ideas, thanks!
Thank you, much appreciated!👍✌
NBF knife and I just recently started getting into slipjoints might have to give my hand at carving with one
Slipjpoints are great for carving. I usaully grind the factory bevel back a bit to make the more whittle friendly. Thank you! 👍✌
NBF Knife. Thanks for all your videos as they are inspiring
Thank you! Nice to hear that. 👍✌
Какое это дерево?
Просто чудо!
Ветка кленового дерева. Спасибо. 👍✌
NBF Knife. Excellent video. Would like to see what it looks like after the wood dries. And if you put any type of finish on the carving.
Thank you! When both pieces have fully dried out I will try and remember to show them. I usually just use oil and wax as a finish. 👍✌
Straordinario. Complimenti
Molte grazie ! 👍✌
NBF Knife. Thanks for posting, this is a great video.
Thank you, much appreciated! 👍✌
Great whittle with a pocket knife. With that said, I'd still like the chance to win the NBF Knife. Thank you for doing this giveaway.

Hi! New Carver here! NBF knife! Thank you for the videos! What kind of knife are you using please?
Welcome to the whittling/wood carving hobby! I am using an old Rough Rider pocket knife. I have owned it for a long time. Thank you! 👍✌
Nicely Done! I love carving green sticks with my utility knife. But a pocket knife is way cooler…thanks for sharing. “NBF Knife”
I have used a Stanely 199 for these also, but you are right - there is just something about using a pocket knife! Thank you! 👍✌
Love wood spirits❣️ NBF Knife 😊
Me too! Thank you! 👍✌
definitely added to one of my new hobbies. quick question what is the serial number of that pocket knife?
I could not locate a serial number on the knife, it is abot 16 years since I purchased it. The original order form has RR599. Whittling is a great hobby! 👍✌️
NBF Knife. Great channel.
Thank you!👍✌
NBF Knife. Did you modify that Rough Rider, or is it stock? It looks like a nice shape blade for whittling.
Yes, I flattened the bevel on the 2 smaller blades. Thank you!👍✌
