    Really appreciate your approach to breaking it down. I was worried I wouldn’t get it but you walked through everything piece by piece and I can’t wait to play this song more closely to the recording. My Papa was a trucker so this song is one of my faves.

      Sweet! I hope it’ll get you where you want to go. I really need to get some more content up 😀. Stuff like this is why I want to help out.

    Awesome tutorial! Thank you! I always wondered how Colter picked and strummed. Is he (or you) using the back of your index finger to pick and strum? Or are you using your thumb to alternate the bass and strumming with the back of your index finger? It's hard to see.

    • @RexRichardsMusic

      Thanks. Colter does it slightly different than I do, but similar concept. I tend to strum downward with my index fingernail, and strum up with the side of my thumb, and any individual note that I’m trying to let ring out is plucked with my index finger also. Mr. Wall uses his thumb a lot more than I do for picking the bass notes (which is more akin to traditional fingerpicking - thumb alternates the bass, fingers 1, 2, and 3 plucking the treble/melody). By using his thumb as the “plucking digit” it frees up his index finger to pluck or strum upward and downward. I have not mastered that style AT ALL. His songs are more “full” because where I have a dead beat waiting for the upstrum or downstrum he’s plucking or strumming on 1/2 and quarter notes. If I could forget all of my bad habits, I would try to mimic CW 😀. It is a much richer sound. My brain can do the traditional finger picking , but adding a strum in there with my index is very difficult for me for some reason.

      I’ve been asked this enough to where I should probably do a video, but I’m worried I’d be teaching bad habits. 🤷‍♂️

      @@RexRichardsMusic Aweome! That explains a lot! Again, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain! I’ll try not to pick up any bad habits while learning CW, but watching his videos, I’ve always been curious. Usually there is a spot to donate (or tip) on a channel. Do you not have that set up?

    • @RexRichardsMusic
      @RexRichardsMusic  3 роки тому

      No, I don’t. I didn’t realize that was a thing 🤷‍♂️😂. I appreciate it, but honestly I just like to help. Also, I was saying that doing it ‘my way’ would be, in my opinion, the bad habit. Learn Colter’s way! Then teach me!

  • @LimaOscarBravo

    Thanks for the lesson! How many strums of down up until you change? Is it one bar per chord?

    • @RexRichardsMusic
      @RexRichardsMusic  Рік тому +1

      The pattern is really down, down-up with the first down beat of each strum pattern/cycle being on the root or the alternating bass note. The fast down-up is a strum of the full chord. Yes, each chord is played for one bar (4 strum ‘cycles’). I am obviously not a trained musician with the vocab dialed 😂. I pretty much play by ear/feel when it comes to rhythm. Sorry if this is unclear to a more polished musical vocabulary. 😬

      @@RexRichardsMusicNo this makes perfect sense. I'm just starting out and only had my guitar around 2 months so learning rhythm and strum patterns etc is new to me so sometimes it's hard to work out by watching. Thanks very much for the reply and this video.
