      @Daniel Casmir Thank you, Daniel, and yes, that is the yellow Schirmer book. I have been working with it for over ten years and still love it. Back then, they knew how to write songs for singers! I hope one day to have mastered all of them. I have a recording of one of them up on my other channel and may do another in the next few months. Contemporary songs just can't compare!

      I watched that interview, it was very good. I loved your Path of the Crone video also. This is great wisdom for men of all ages. I am going to send this to my son who is in college. He's a bit of a lost soul these days. Perhaps my fault. I wish I had known this stuff when I was raising my kids, but better to share this with them now than never. The friend that sent me your other video told me you have teenage sons and I can imagine they must be quite impressive young men. They will be off to a good start in life with this knowledge. I hope they appreciate their mother's wisdom, although I know teenagers often think their parents are stupid and don't realize we were right until they have kids of their own! Please make more videos like this. I am a big fan.

    Jesus Christ, who is this woman? Extremely insightful! And well-informed! Even the great Jordan Peterson fails to understand for example the Shiva/Shakti dichotomy, insisting on interpreting everything through the lens of the chaos/order model, while Cat is right on the money. And she's up-to-date on the current internet subcultures as well. And on top of that she's a classically trained singer! I'm very impressed.

      She used to have a video critiquing Jordan Peterson but it seems to have been memory-holed. I used to like Peterson, but he never could really bring it all the way home for me. It's like he's telling you to go through the motions of how to fix your life but it's missing the essence and so it ends up being very shallow. My room was clean, but I still was mired in nihilism. Her videos on nihilism really helped me (fortunately those ones are still up!) and it was actually the kick in the guts I needed to start thinking about my life differently.

      I know man, Joardon Peterson's Indic knowledge is so limited, that I have never been able to connect with him, even me a Indian college student has more idea on Indic philosophies than J. B. Peterson, who is supposed to be one of the leading thought leader of modern philosophy? I don't buy this. A philospher and interpretor of ideas, who doesn't understand even fundamentals of one of the oldest living civilisation, it's hilarious.

      @@jacksonb3662 Jordan Peterson misses the truly kingly and adventurous spirit. He has a lot of measly 'knowledge' but fails to put it into a greater purposeful metaphysical framework devoid of whimsies always arguing through the lens of his personal beliefs. He is a rather feminine and emotional personality and unaware of how his family assisted his succes and emotionally supported him has been displaying traits of hubris on his youtube channel lately where he posts weekly tantrums directed to different parties and institutes but devoid of any metaphysical logos or emotional discipline. He is a good stepping stone toward greater wisdom and served as such for me, but he has frankly overstepped his abilities and is currently flirting with becoming a false prophet of a sort due to his lack of humility.

    5 years after the release of this video and I continue to be surprised by how accurate your interpretation of the perennial work and philosophy of Evola is, the absolute man is nothing more than the one who is guided and manifests through the transcendent but not in an external way but internal, whether through action or contemplation, self-control is one of the main keys to attracting pure feminine power (shakti), whether mentally or physically, the man who can dominate himself and direct himself towards the eternal and transcendent will conquer the world!

  • @louisr8732
    @louisr8732 5 років тому +23

    Great content, I agree with you on almost everything. One remark I have is about your claim that we do not need new ideas, we need better men. While I agree that we need better men and it does eventually boil down to our capacity for self mastery, I don't believe it is realistic to expect large numbers of better men (or even a few) without some form of 'new' ideas being spread. By new I do not mean completely unheard of, but rather new information to the men in question.
    The ideas themselves might be as old as our race, but if they do not reach our people in a way that engages them, these ideas are useless. In a way, your video *is* some type of 'new' idea in this sense. It opens a doorway to the minds of men who might otherwise have never looked at life this way. As you said, men are more compelled to ideas and ideals. I believe we need to make sure we feed our men the right ideas and ideals in the right setting. I'm afraid most men are way too lost to find these on their own. Your video and content overall is definitely helping.
    That being said, I'm missing 2 more elements in your video. The first would be spirituality and our relation to the transcendent. It seems to me that our modern generation has lost this connection completely. As a result, we are doomed to the cage of materialism and will inevitably be weighed down by our egos a lot more than we would be if we had a proper understanding of the nature of our existence and our relationship to the transcendent.
    The second is the aspect of play, or flow. This is something that I have come to realize myself only recently, after coming to pretty much the same conclusions you have laid out here in this video. The biggest problem for me personally was that I never saw the path of the hero as something inherently rewarding or joyful. It always had its attractiveness, but joy was never part of that. It was always more a deeper pull that at the same time felt rather empty and dark, like an endless investment of energy with no real tangible reward other than the fruits of heroic 'success', as vaguely as that is.
    Even though the path of the hero is certainly not to be underestimated, I do believe now that walking it purposefully and with dedication, the path itself is where the actual joy lies, rather than in its mere material or social returns which my modern outlook primarily projected on it. Of course, for this to be realized one must still invest his being into it completely, but at least it does not feel like an empty sacrifice and too much of a burden to bear. This has been one of the biggest issues for me, who has been searching more than anything. It has made me very prone to procrastination because I subconsciously believed the reward to be not even near worth the investment.
    Lastly, what I've also noticed in my own behavior in retrospect is the attraction to the fruits of the path of the hero without ever being conscious of the path itself in the first place. I think most men are stuck here. We desperately try to aim for the fruits directly instead of nurturing the three that produces them because we have lost our understanding of the metaphysical path of man.

    • @PhilosophiCat
      @PhilosophiCat  5 років тому +10

      Thanks for such a thoughtful comment, Louis. To address your two points:
      I wouldn't say what I am presenting is a new idea because I am parsing Evola's ideas, albeit for a new audience. And he himself drew from Tradition and perennial philosophy. By this late stage in human development, coming up with a truly new idea that no one has ever thought of before would be challenging, to say the least.
      As for the two elements you find missing, I didn't address them here for two reasons. One is that it was too much a tangent outside the scope of this already long video. The other is that I do address those things in my Nationalism and Nihilism series (you can find the link in the description), so hopefully you find that I have satisfactorily addressed our relationship to the transcendent there.

    The temptations of the ego can be so subtle even when you're on the look out for it. I was having a "debate" with a liberal friend of mine about how I think that cognitive behaviour therapy is a crutch and not a real cure for anxiety and depression. What matters is inner transformation of your Being. I think it's actually lunar to depend upon rational thought to know what's true, instead of "knowing". Well I couldn't explain it well anyway to him and I was becoming internally frustrated because I "needed" to convince him that our outer life depends on our inner being. Alright Tao Te Ching, I know that good men do not argue. There is no need to. If you need to argue you are not good. I didn't become convinced of Traditional thought through argument anyway, but through an inner knowing. Bowden said that people who gravitate around right wing ideas know that truth about it without having all the ideas or being intellectually convinced. It's a prerational knowing, I think you feel the essence of your being just gravitate to these outer expressions, these ideals put into speech.

      Dude! Quick warning I am not the most eloquent in speech, no Saruman here sadly, but MAN your comment hits the nail on the head. It made me think of how when you are in a super crowded parking lot looking for your car, and mentally you feel lost and kinda helpless, but somehow your feet tend to walk and point towards where the car is and you eventually find it. We get befuddled by so much in this modern age that distract and confuse us, but when you look back on the path you were on, and look ahead to where you are heading, you see that your consciousness in a way knew you were walking towards something that you may have not had words for yet, but knew inwardly was right. No matter what a previous friend, lover, society, a family member, or the media distracted you with, you were walking towards that traditional inner knowing.

      @@PhilosophiCat I think Peter Jackson did a masterful job in a series of films that could outright have butchered Tolkien's masterpiece. However, Denethor can be misconstrued in the film's portrayal. Essentially Denethor lost his mind to despair resisting Sauron, and although this may be seen as tragic, I think it was a heroically tragic form of martyrdom.
      _"He [Denethor] must have guessed that the Ithil-stone [Sauron's palantír] was in evil hands, and risked contact with it, trusting his strength. His trust was not entirely unjustified. Sauron failed to dominate him and could only influence him by deceits._
      _'Saruman fell under the domination of Sauron... [while] Denethor remained steadfast in his rejection of Sauron, but was made to believe that his defeat was inevitable, and so fell into despair. The reasons for this difference were no doubt that in the first place Denethor was a man of great strength of will and maintained the integrity of his personality until the final blow of the (apparently) mortal wound of his only surviving son." - J.R.R Tolkien (Wikipedia on Denethor)_

    I grew up in a strong traditional Assyrian family with strong faith in God. A man MUST HAVE principles, morals & standards in all aspects of his life. A good start to improving your relationship with the opposite sex & placing principles in your life is to only date to Marry. And also growing your faith in God, for his word will truly build you up into a Man/Woman who lives by Virtues
    This is a great video!

    I love the LOTR analogys.
    Saurons power is derived from technology (the ring) and he has forsaken ecology (his place among the natural order of things as a maiar)
    Sauron is imensly powerful when wielding his technology but nothing more then an impotent spirit when its no-longer in his possession.
    So many parallels to modern man, Tolkien was a powerful wizard indeed.

    As a man I disagree a little bit with a certain point you bring up. It's about looking up to past idols and being inspired by their example and trying to embody who they were. One such example of this would be (and I'm not a christian by the way) Jesus Christ. Based on his life I find it perfectly good that Christians find inspiration through him, and try to live everyday as he did, I don't see how this is non-masculine at all. The same goes for Muhammad for Muslims, Muhammad was a very masculine man judging by the scripture, he was even a warrior and fought many battles. All Muslims today find inspiration and try to embody his character and spirit everyday, I think this is very masculine. But overall this was a great video and I agree with almost all of it.

    I must disagree with this warrior in the realm of ideas concept so popular among people who have never seen the workplace in which the actual warrior works. The battlefield. And our ancient "thinkers" were warriors first in their lives...but I agree 100% about the true man serving an Ideal/Principle. For me as a twenty year Army veteran and a practicing "pagan" Alexander of Macedon (Great) is the ultimate expression of the Absolute Man. @@PhilosophiCat You are so right. Men are needed now more than ever. Great video. You nailed it with the self-mastery and embodying the higher principles. Once you do this you COMMAND respect rather than DEMAND it. I was on a livestream the other day and this rude jackass cut me off while I was talking and gave me the whole "sorry there, pal". I let him finish his idiotic rant. Then I spoke my piece intelligently, powerfully, yet calmly. Without demanding or expecting anything of anyone and by standing in the power of the truth, I stole the show so to speak. He demanded respect and got some attention, but did not get what he sought because he came from a place of arrogance and ego, rather than of truth and purpose. That kind of fake macho-man bravado is not masculine, it is actually a narcissistic feminine principle. The real man, be he an Ascetic or a Warrior (or both) has a powerful aura that is unstoppable. Keep doing what you're doing Cat, you are one of the few who really gets it.

    I agree with most of what she says, but I will not give up my self defense classes or my income, except maybe for the top 5% of men, or when my son got sick and had health problems. Obviously we make those sacrifices for our loved ones in times of Emergency. Many men will only abuse that sacrifice. And it is literally a holy sacrifice, not so different from the sacrifice's made in the bible with sheep upon the alter.
    That being said, I will always take the time to build my home if I have children and/or a husband. There is a balance to all of this. Modern women have the privilege of working and learning self defence, but you still must take time to turn your home into a sacred refuge, other wise life gets badly out of balance. It is also ok to honor some of the traditions. An extreme of either view, is what has led to the abuse's of mankind.
    For some odd reason, I always love men who go out and hunt and then share thier deer meat with the family.
    When it comes to spirituality, no one can do that for you. Not even a man. We all must tread our own path on that.
