I tried this and the paint started coming a year later. The best way to refresh brass door knobs is to sand them with a fine grade sanding block. Once down to the brass turn it black using Brass Black. You can coat with a quality laquer. This lasts!
This video was helpful to confirm what I wanted to do for my front door brushed/satin nickel handle. I wasn't sure if it could be spray painted to match a new oil rubbed bronze door lock I installed. But after seeing the results from this video, I decided to give it a try using a Behr Hammered Burnished Amber spray paint. It actually matched pretty well to the oil rubbed bronze finish on the lock. I didn't put much effort into the sanding and did a couple of light sprays every 5-10 minutes. Hoping it lasts.
Looks really nice , Although I find when Door handles its best to just keep it as it is or replace them , IF you spray them , with constant use , people opening them with rings on or keys in hand , the paint easily scratches or rubs off . So the finish does not really last that long . In my country , funny enough , it may be cheaper (Possibly in the long run) to buy a new knob then spray it .Rustolem here is pritty expensive and one the best spray paint available , I just love using it . But yours did turn out pritty nice.
This is such a great video! For the longest time I’ve been wanting to update our brass doorknobs, but it’s so costly. I didn’t even realize this would be an option, so thanks for the thorough video!
would this method work for painting brass pieces on a kitchen pendant? Wondering if the heat caused by the light would melt the paint or maybe even it would be a fire hazard. Or, could perhaps the heated pendant warm up the paint and make the odor of it fill the air? Thanks for the wonderful video!!
Any update on this? Thinking of doing it to my house, but worried that the paint will chip easily where the door connects to the frame plate. . .thank you for the reply!
Faiza Raza I tried this. Knobs look great after primer and several coats of colour and clear. BUT ... they simply do not hold up to use. Brass exposed after very light use. I ended up replacing with new knobs. I think this spray technique would be good for household items that are display only and not subject to excess handling.
Did you wipe down the knobs after sanding before spraying? I didn't notice it in the video. I know that can mess up paint adhesion. They came out really nice.
There must be a really good reason why you left all the patio furniture next to the table while painting. I was cracking up watching you walk around all your furniture as you're trying to paint. So how much oversprayed ended up on the cloth of your patio furniture? And please don't tell me none. I think this video was more about what not to do when painting.
Michael Damn you missed the warning about sexist pigs being allowed on a boss babes channel! Avoiding this warning may cause a Trojan on your computer. I didn’t make the rules...🤷🏻♀️

Just saw your video. Great job. Some nice tricks to help us all out. Thanks so much.
Don't forget the door hinges to match! :)
Yes of course :) I did them the same way but separately since it was more of an undertaking to take off the hinges
exactly
I actually looked over my shoulder to see who you were talking too 🙈 I need some sleep.

Just wondering if they've held up a few years later? Thanks!
Interested too!
hmmmm
?
@emilyburn how are these a few years later?
Looks great! Going to start on my weathered brass door handles, what grit sanding pad did you use? Thx
Excellent tutorial! your knobs look fantastic Diy!!! i am working on mine!
Thank you, they did come out great and made a nice difference
Does this work for handles with locks? I’d be worried it would jam the buttons or keyholes. Thanks for the video!
What grit sandpaper or buffing block?
Great video! I'm planning on doing the same thing. You make it look so easy. Thanks so much for the inspiration. 🤗
My daughter loves dancing to the song in the background. 😆 What’s it called?

What grit did you used is it #120 or 150 sand paper?
Thanks my doorknobs look great now!
Love to hear it!
Hi just after some advice is it ok not to sand as really want it to shine as I'm trying to match up with black nickel fittings in the room.
HELLO IS PAINTING LASTING WELL UNTIL TODAY?
Yes it is holding up very well, only one door jam has chipped because the door needs to be adjusted the knobs are great
Looks good!
Like the color but don't care for the metallic. Bronze fixtures usually don't have metal flakes in the finish

They have held up very well only one of them shows a little wear and I think the door is slightly out of alignment
What about the door knobs you use most often? My entire house has these about 22 knobs

Yes I did wipe them off with a damp cloth to get off all the dust and gave them some time to dry before the first coat of paint
What grit sandpaper did you use? Also did you prime them before painting them
What grit sand paper should we use?
Why dont you move the chairs out of the way when spraying😂
Can I ask if it lasted over the year?
They have lasted well, about 2 years later seeing some chips
Move the chairs away before spraying - overspray isn't fun.
How did these hold up??
Nice one. Will one tin of spray do 5 door knobs like those shown do you think?
Yes I do! I am not sure exactly how many a can will tackle but I didn’t run out with doing 5 or 6 doors
Emily Burn Thanks. My next DIY project sorted. 👍

what is the "Right" grit??
Hey ..it doesn't look bronze at all it looks black. Did I miss something?
Oil rubbed bronze is an almost black look
@@EmilyBurn ok. Thanks. And do you think the black dusty they have is too much black? Do u prefer this one?
@@LauryDepp I'm pretty sure you can get different colors if you want! Stop being a jerk!
Thank you
Cheers
Doesn't it look Black more than Brass??
Yes the were old school brass to start
Please colour name
Mujhe gold aur black colour chahie
Manufacturers suggest a tighter shirt when spray painting hardware.

Nothing wrong w a little "cheeky!" humor that is complimentary, but careful not to portray yourself in an ungentlemenly, unflattering way.
I think you said “um” about 500 times!! Good video though
