I was telling someone recently that I used to paint projects before I went out of town, that way they had a week or more to cure before I went to the next step. Once paint cures it can be extremely durable but when it's dry but not cured through it can be troublesome just trying to get something back together without scratching it.
I have uncommon sized drawer pulls and I'm finding it difficult to replace them, using the holes already drilled into the cabinets. Doing this to what I have will save a lot of money and disappointment in the basically non-existent selection of pulls. Thanks!
Great tips. I’m cleaning hardware today trying to get it back to natural. But… it’s been hard to clean. So I’m preparing myself for having to spray them. Thanks for the help
Oh dang, I already took off the hinges and didn’t pay attention to which one goes where…. Hope that doesn’t bite me in the ass when I go to reinstall them. Thanks for the helpful video!
Honestly, you are heaven sent! Thank you thank you 👏👏 you explained everything so diligently. & to the point! You don't understand how hard that is to find 😅
For spray paint, it's very important to let it CURE. Not just dry, but CURE before using it. This can take 2-4 weeks of leaving them in a warm, dry place. Once it has CURED, it won't peel or chip, but most beginners using spray paint will try to start using it in a high-traffic area after 48 hours, and it WILL peel/chip after such a short time.
I know this video isn't exactly new so I am not sure I will get an answer. What products do you recommend for a Bathroom vanity hardware? It is becoming impossible to find a replacement for them (odd shape/size, recessed, etc). I am needing to paint them black to match the rest of the hardware on the vanity. Since I am not choosing a metallic paint would a Rustoleum Black satin work? Will priming and a top coat help with the durability? I don't want it to wear off 2 years from now after being in a bathroom (humidity) on drawers that will be used often. Any additional tips are appreciated! Thanks!
if i remember correctly, you recently switched the drawer pulls on something you refinished because you thought the original drawer pulls looked outdated. i know nothing about matching drawer pulls to different types of furniture, what is or isn't stylish at the moment, etc. perhaps others would also like ore information on this hardware topic. thank you.
That’s such a good idea! I’m not sure that I’m super knowledgeable in that department though. Haha I got yelled at over and over on Facebook for putting leather pulls on a dresser. Haha I just look around at popular stores online and see what they have, or I pick something that I’m drawn to.
Hi there, great video! Question: I have a restoration hardware desk and the metal legs have a hammered like texture. I’d like them to be gold but do you think metallic spray paint would work (and look good) over textured metal? Thanks!
Can this process be used for bathroom fixtures (metal towel rack, toilet paper holder, shelves) that are constantly being moistened? Or would you add anything?
I put tape on the back of the hinge (the section that goes against the wood when you screw the hinge on.) I wrote on it and then folded the tape over so the paint wouldn’t cover up my writing.
@@ARayofSunlightour painters took all of our antique hardware off to paint them and didn’t label them or keep them with the original doors, now half of the rehung doors won’t close properly.

How long do you have to wait in between finishing with your spray paint, and applying the Minwax Polycrylic clear topcoat (for high traffic fridge handles)?
Great question! That really depends on what type of paint you used. I would check the manufacturer's instructions on the can to find out how long you have to wait to let it dry and cure before topcoating it.
When you’re filling holes, and you’re using stain after you sanded how can you get the stain to match up with what the rest of the drawer looks like since you sanded it all together?
I've never been able to find a wood filler that stains the same color as the wood. The best thing I've found that works is by creating your own wood filler by mixing wood shavings and Elmer wood glue together. Apply, let it dry, then sand and stain. I've had good results doing it this way. Hope that helps.
Annoyingly, this video appears in every search on how to paint drawer pulls WITHOUT removing them. Sadly, the previous owner of the dresser unit I have decided to glue the knobs in place as well as screwing, hence they are attached to the wooden fascia and CAN'T be removed without damage. If I could remove them, anyone can paint them!
@@bnadem.panormal Have you ever tried to 'bend' masking tape round a 1 inch diameter circle? Besides, it's the knobs I want to paint but can't work out how to get a clean edge round them without getting paint on the drawer front...

Toothpicks to keep the drawer pulls' little levers open! Brilliant!!
Soaking them several hours in a dishwashing detergent/ water solution works real well for cleaning also.

Great tips I plan to do all my interior doors and hinges
I agree with you on the shade of metallic spray looks so much classier than gold

If you need to paint smaller screws, I like to push them into Styrofoam. Works great!! I like the skewer idea!! Your videos are so helpful!
Oh styrofoam is a great trick too!
This just perfectly fixed the problem that I had, that is so smart! Together with this clip I'm good to go! Thanks you both! 💪🏻🤩

In a high traffic area like for door handles, will spray painting them hold up? Or will it peel and chip?
Great idea! I wish someone will answer
Use rubnbuff
I did with laquer, it just scratches off sadly

I’m confused, how do label the hinges when you need to paint them?

This is a great video. I noticed that the shellac says finish and sealer. You can use this as a primer too?
Yes that is correct.
Thanks for the tips!
I am trying to paint or buff off the gold lacquer trim of my shower stall…. Any suggestions for how to spray paint that?
Do the hinges not get stuck and still move easily when painted?
Nope they don’t!
The Bulls Eye Finish Spray, can you explain why it's good as a primer? It is glossy and says finish spray. Thanks for your help.
How about if you were doing decorative strips would you suggest gold spray paint Or decorative gold tape 🤔

Hi, great video, I wondering does the top coat you showed is same as polyurethane?
Yep it’s Poly.
@@ARayofSunlight thanks for reply. There are 3 top coat in your video. Which one would you recommend for bathroom hardwares?
It depends what paint you used on it. What paint did you use?
@@ARayofSunlight im gonna use rub n buff on bathroom faucet.
Rub n buff is a wax, so I wouldn’t recommend putting anything on top of it. 😬 it’s not a very durable finish either. 😢

how long should i let the paint dry before appling the top coat?
Overnight at least.

Use black electrical tape, you can bend it for curves and it leaves a very clean edge and doesnt bleed@@stephenm5000
