There are 2 ways to install a water filter, by screwing it in or by inserting it, so a person should check their owner's manual to find the correct procedure.
I have changed my filter twice before and it was not as easy as in your video. I am trying to change for the third time and it will not seat at all. Any ideas?
I've changed the filter as instructed, however the filter maintenance alert is still on and water will not dispense. I've tried holding down the water and ice buttons as indicated in other searches with no luck.
Hi Mary, it is very frustrating when you take the time to do a DIY project and it doesn't quite go smoothly. Here are some things to try. Unplug the refrigerator and then plug it back in, maybe it will reset. The water filter warning light or message is reset by pressing the Ice & Water pad on the control panel for three seconds. The filter light should turn green, and the filter status will show Good. Evidently this is pretty temperamental. If you hold it too long, it won't work. When the filter or bypass is correctly installed, the word "FRONT" will be showing. If "BACK" is showing, then reverse the filter or bypass and reinstall. Also, the air has to be purged from the line after the filter is changed. They want you to dispense water about 5 minutes. If none of this works, you may have to either install another filter or call a technician. Hope this helps, good luck!
Hi Rezahoudi4915, Home Depot usually carries the RPWFE water filter. Replacement time depends on how much water you use. The refrigerator should signal when it needs to be replaced.
Question for you , what if for some reason the locking system that holds the filter is jamed and sits straight, is there any release key to fix this issure Thank you!
Hi Molly, just to be clear, when you say you have a grey one, you mean you purchased a grey RPWFE water filter, and the housing where it inserts in your refrigerator is also grey, correct? If so, all should go well, but it is a bit tricky to insert. You have to make sure the word "front" is on the front side of the filter when you insert it. Also, you will not twist the filter, just insert it into the housing. Line up the clips on the front of the filter with the slots in the housing. You could take a picture of the housing and blow it up so you can see exactly how you need to put it. Then maneuver it until the new filter seats correctly in the housing. Hope this helps, let us know how it works out. Good luck!
I replaced a filter with no problem, but when the dispenser stops there is a harsh thud or click. Any idea what that is? It happens every time I use the dispenser. Water and ice come out fine, but when the water stops it always stops with a thud coming from the upper left of the fridge. Have tried reducing the flow from the wall to the fridge and no difference.
How often does the filter need to be replaced? I have a Keurig coffee maker that needs decaying quite often. How will I address that issue with the refrigerator?
Hi Debra, GE says the filter needs to be replaced every 6 months, or after dispensing 170 gallons of water. Your refrigerator should give you a notification when you need to replace the filter. Hope this helps!
Hello. I had trouble removing the filter and now I cannot get the new filter installed. After watching your video, I think I didn’t swing the old filter out enough to be able to pull out easily. BTW, my holder is gray. I think my problem is the holder did not swing all the way out to be able to remove easy. Now, it’s not in the right position to easily insert and swing back into the correct position. Is there any help you can offer me at this point? I had 3 rotator cuff surgeries on that arm and I am in pain from my efforts. Thanks so much.
I set my new filter down on the counter next to the old one and lost track of which one is old and which is new. Dumb, I know, but is there a way to tell which is used? Neither filter seems to rest the expired indicator on the touch acreen panel but one is heavier than the other so I’m hoping that’s a clue???
Hey Melody, I would GUESS heavier is older. Maybe shake it - the opening facing the countertop?? Any drops of water come out? Try the other one… not sure if they water test them at the factory. If any water comes out of one and not the other - I’d guess the one with water is old. Hope that grips! Thx for wstching’
One additional thing I found helpful when removing, inserting, or swinging the apparatus open or closed is to lift up slightly on the end of the filter toward me. Much less resistance that way and it feels less like you’re breaking something. 🙂
I made the mistake of twisting the cartridge and I have the grey one. I have had this fridge for five years and love it. I am pretty handy and have fixed a few appliances around the house. It won't sense anything and the old filter doesn't work so I'm pretty sure I broke it. Any tips on fixing or replacing the part?
Hey Carla, See if you can get the old one back in. Are they exactly the same size in every way? If the old one won’t go in - which was already in, then something is in the way. If the old one does go back in then you may have a sizing issue. I’ve heard there are a couple of designs - they don’t make it easy. Hope that helps
Thank you so much for the difference between the gray and blue holder as the manual did NOT mention that very important tip. It said to twist it and that would have broken something I am certain of which would really have annoyed me. Done, in and very happy. Great video, dumb design on GE’s part.
Hi Kathryn, we agree, it doesn't make sense that a refrigerator manufacturer would have two different filters for the same model. Some people are saying the colors don't always correlate to what we were saying. So this is very confusing. We wonder how many people have broken their filters installing them the wrong way. Very glad yours went smoothly, thanks much for your comments!
Fwiw, I changed out the original filter on my 2020 cafe fridge yesterday. I have the gray filter connection. The original filter did not want to come out so I put some muscle into it and the filter popped out. It broke one of the tabs on the filter itself. I hope the gray connector is ok. I replaced the OEM filter with the factory plug because I have a whole house water filtration system. Anyway, no apparent leaks in the system. I have to agree this is a poor design for what will surely be an owner service vs having a shop come out to change the filter.
We've gone at least a year with no problems. I can't drink the tap water in our area with my medication. I just feel bad seeing the message that it over 99 days overdue:)
After trying to swing the new filter to the left into position, it was not fully seated. When swung back to the right, the top tab broke off the filter. We removed the broken filter,. However, the “notches” at the top and bottom of the white housing are not fully exposed to accept a new filter. How do I move/rotate the white housing to the right to accept the new filter? Trying to move right with my finger and a screwdriver were unsuccessful. Thanks for your time.
Hi Karen, without being there to see exactly what you are referring to, this is difficult to advise about. There are two kinds of filters made for this refrigerator, one inserts and the other one twists in, so you have to make sure you have the correct type for your specific model. If the tabs break off the filter, the filter is probably no longer functional and you will need to get a new one. Below is a link to the info from GE where they explain how to remove the old filter and replace it with a new one: products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=21284 Hope this helps, good luck!
You are the one that showed that I had the grey holder. Then it was so simple to change it. I have been trying for days to twist it out and couldn’t do it. Thank you so much for making it so easy.
Hi: I replaced my filter following your instruction. The water that came out first looked light greenish/grayish. Can you please explain the reason? Is it safe to drink the water when it becomes clear? Thank you for your answer. Ahsan Habib
Hey Nick, Has the pressure been decreasing gradually over time? Only at the fridge? Maybe possible... Maybe call GE customer support. They may have a more certain idea.. Thx for watching!
Hi Suso, quite honestly we just kept moving the new filter around until it fit. A viewer of ours, Terry M., has this to say: the back of the filter has to be tilted up. The new one goes in at slight angle. Hope this helps. Let us know how it works out.
Info much appreciated. When we go to get water from the new filter we still get the message that says to change the filter. We have tried touching on the message but to no avail. Suggestions please.
Hey Connie, I’d call GE. But here is a guess. I vaguely remember removing a filter and the area where it attaches had some moisture around it so installing the new filter didn’t register. Maybe something like that??? There has to be some kind of combination of buttons or the like to do a hard reset. GE should be able to give you a solution. Thx for watching.
I greatly appreciate the input you provide. I have a café refrigerator from GE and I have the RPWFE water filter. I removed the old one but I’m having a very hard time getting in the new one do you have any suggestions?
Hi Areej, no, we have not found the GE Cafe refrigerator to be loud at all. Actually, very quiet, not sure why people are saying it is loud. We will be doing a video review of this exact refrigerator soon. Cons: The icemaker gets stuck if you don't use it a lot. Sometimes the button for the crushed ice gets stuck. We got a counter depth fridge, it doesn't hold a large amount of items. They might have a larger version of this refrigerator. Pros: The counter depth looks slick because it aligns with everything in the kitchen. Provides both cold and hot water. Has a very nice display to show how many ounces of water it dispenses. Has cool blue light display. This refrigerator is definitely upscale. Top tier refrigerators can go for $7,000 or more. This one is less than half the cost, so for us it is a good value. Hope this helps, good luck with your purchase!
HouseBarons thank you for your feedback... I really like the cafe line and wanted to start getting my entire kitchen... dishwasher had great reviews but the refrigerator was all over the place... looking forward to your video on the refrigerator. If you can answer below questions as part of the video that would be helpful to everyone trying to purchase this appliance. How long you had the refrigerator? Mention about the sound. How long it takes for the water to get hot. The measurements and model you have on hand. Storage issues, if any? Freezer quality. Any water leakage? Thank you!
Got filter out and new one in no problem but digital read still shows "Did you know" comments and "dismiss", "remind later" and "connect" wont change to allow us to run water - help?
Hi Wendy, we have encountered many products, especially tools and machines, that have terrible instruction booklets. So we spend a while figuring out how to use the item and make a video, figuring other people will probably also be trying to solve the riddles. Thanks so much for your comment, glad the video was helpful!
Hi Robert, we basically just moved the filter around until it fit, another viewer says this: the back of the filter has to be tilted up. The new one goes in at t slight angle. Hope this helps, let us know if it works!
This helped a TON; we have a grey bracket one and were having the hardest time when the inner white piece/slot inside the bracket wasn’t moved all the way over, for the new filter to go in. Thanks a ton for the video!!
I used a wooden spoon handle to move the white piece to get the right alinement. Then the filter went on (finally). I'm not sure how exactly I removed the old filter but it wasn't easy. I thought I had it moved all the way to the right before pulling. I read not to turn it but I may have a slight bit with all the wiggling and pushing, it was very frustrating. Both the pulling off and pushing on of the filter took way to much force. I kept feeling like I was going to break it. What a terrible design. I know I am responding to an old post but maybe this will save somebody a lot of misery. 😁
Thanks for the clear instructions and talking slow enough for me to follow. I replaced my generic filter with a new GE Filter and, even after running 5 gallons of water, it still tastes awful. Did anyone else have this problem?
Hi Snow Bird, it is odd that you are having trouble with your water after replacing the filter. Maybe you can get a water test done to make sure everything is okay with your plumbing system. Good luck!
Hi BlackSuccessPod, we have had success resetting the GE Cafe refrigerator by unplugging it for a minute or so and then plugging it back in -- hope this helps!
Had the NO RESET problem and i would say DONT UNPLUG the frig……go to the circuit breaker and use the breaker. You dont know what kind of water conection you have most likely and like me 8:30 at night is not a time to find out the copper piping has been bent nd flexed once too often…….AND the circuit breaker worked and the frig reset
I replaced my filter and now water barely runs through before dripping and stopping completely. And it now makes a loud rumbling noise. I thought it was just an air bubble but it's been two days now! What can I do?
Hi Ann, in this video, the refrigerator that we are working on has a gray water filter housing. This type of filter will be removed by pulling it straight out, not twisting. Hope your replacement works out!
Hello Fun with Nathan, these filters can be tricky to install. There are t installation methods, some simply insert, some need to be twisted. So make sure you know which type your refrigerator requires. Quite honestly we just kept moving the new filter around until it fit. A viewer of ours had this to say: the back of the filter has to be tilted up. The new one goes in at slight angle. Hope this helps. Let us know how it works out.
Hi Josh, you have to run the water for about 5 minutes. After that you should be fine to drink the water. Here are notes from GE: Run 2 gallons of water through the cold water dispenser (about 5 minutes) to remove air from the system. A newly installed filter cartridge will cause water to spurt from the dispenser. Use a large pitcher or sports bottle to catch the water spray. NOTE: It is normal for water to appear discolored during the initial system flush. Water color will return to normal after the first few minutes of dispensing. Hope this helps!
that's not the front, that's the side, and it points towards the back, (maybe put "left and right"?), GE is a bit silly, even putting a wing on the "back" fooling people, including me.. that it was a twist out. grr, not good GE.. silly wabbit.
After watching your video I installed new filter, purged system and water dispenser works but precise fill is no longer working, and it also isn’t counting cups or ounces. Water pressure is good. Have the exact Cafe as you do, with the Keurig. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
Hey @barbaravollaro5681, Double check the filter type. I know they make a couple different kinds which is confusing. Maybe call customer service...gotta be something simple...hopefully. Thx for watching!
Hey Laura, Obviously, something isn’t right? Double check and make sure you have the exact right filter - I think they have different kinds and aren’t all comparable. Thx for watching!
Hey Rob, Lol!!!! We totally get it. Don’t know why they make it so hard. Make sure you have the right filter. They make multiple kinds! Thx for watching!
My frig has a gray mechanism. I followed directions to remove and insert the filters. But, when I swung the new filter into place I discovered that I apparently did not insert the new filter firmly in place. So, I removed the filter but the "seat" (my term) mechanism is locked in place as if there is a filter in place. I can't insert the filter while the seat is locked in place and the mechanism won't swing back out to allow me to attempt to insert the new filter more securely. Ideas on how to get the seat to swing back out?
I’d want to know if that “seat “ spins in place or snaps in place ?? May have to call GE and get them to explain why it would be locked immovable in place.. there has to be a literal catch somewhere….
@@Housebarons Thanks for the reply. I stumbled across a simple solution. I was the problem. I wasn't swinging the cover back far enough to allow the seat to turn. When I fully extended the cover I was able to get the seat to rotate by placing a wooden spoon into the seat and moving as if the spoon was the filter. My bad!
What about the filter maintenance alert screen? Does it clear when filter is replaced ? Ordered my filter should be here tomorrow, so I am wondering.. thanks for any help and the video.
Hi Shirley, we found a GE resource page that has a lot of info regarding the dispenser off message:products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=19693 Hope this helps. Let us know how it turns out. Good luck!
Hi PN, from GE: RPWFE will work with any refrigerator that currently uses GE's RPWF or RPWFE filters. It is used in select GE french-door refrigerators.
The video was very informative and easy to follow. I have a question I am hoping you can help with. When I replaced my filter the refrigerator began to display “leak detected” warning and disabled water dispensing. I was wondering if you have ever encountered this? I have replaced the filter with other new filters, have spoken with GE over the phone to troubleshoot and have had 2 repairman here to look at it and no one has been able to help. The filter is seemingly fine. There is no actual leak and I can only guess that it has to do with the way the filter is seating however one of the repairman who came to look at it told me there are no sensors in the fitting so can’t be this? I know this is a lot of information but just hoping to find the problem so we can fix it. Thanks!
Hi Sarah, the following video from GE says that the filter might not be properly installed:ua-cam.com/video/IJ9dHSH-e4Q/v-deo.html If that isn't the issue, I would do a factory reset, below are the instructions to do that: How do you reset a GE Cafe Refrigerator? Press and hold all four of the temperature adjustment buttons for three seconds and then release. When "0" flashes in the displays, the refrigerator is in the self-diagnostic mode. Press "1" and then "5" to completely reset the entire system. After the system resets, unplug the refrigerator and then restore power. If that doesn't fix the problem, then I would think that you really do have a leak and instead of calling a general repairman, call a GE Authorized repair person. They will know how to diagnose and fix this problem. Hope this helps, let us know how things work out!
HouseBarons hello I saw this video before I posted and I agree somehow the filter is seating or installed incorrectly however 2 repairmen and O have installed various filters “correctly” and as instructed. It appears perfect but refrigerator still thinks there is a leak?
If you twisted, all hope may not be lost. Unplug and the replug the fridge, take out the filter, make sure that the "FRONT" lable is visible and push in. Good luck!
Thanks a lot for the video. I need to replace the filter housing .I bought the housing already but can't find any video how to replace it . If you have any information about that please share.

Hi Chris, sorry, we have not encountered this problem, so we can't advise on how to proceed. Hope you figure this out!
@@Housebarons thanks❣
Thank you!!! I am so happy!!
Hey Mary,
Glad it helped! Thx for watching!
Thanks so much.
same issue here. I can't get it to swing back
I set my new filter down on the counter next to the old one and lost track of which one is old and which is new. Dumb, I know, but is there a way to tell which is used? Neither filter seems to rest the expired indicator on the touch acreen panel but one is heavier than the other so I’m hoping that’s a clue???
Hey Melody,
I would GUESS heavier is older.
Maybe shake it - the opening facing the countertop?? Any drops of water come out? Try the other one… not sure if they water test them at the factory. If any water comes out of one and not the other - I’d guess the one with water is old.
Hope that grips!
Thx for wstching’
@@Housebarons - thank you for the quick response!! And you were right. :)
Hey Natasha,
Compare old filter to new one. Maybe call the manufacturer for help?
Thx for watching!
What if the filter does not line up and go back in smoothly?
A viewer mentioned this, hope it helps: the back of the filter has to be tilted up. The new one goes in at slight angle.
hi my filter is inside the door. I can't get it back in, What am I doing wrong
Hey Carla,
See if you can get the old one back in.
My ge cafe line filter is on the right side and the filter is completely different.
Hey Tanja,
Probably different year….
Thx for watching!
I have to fight and curse like a sailor to get the new one to go in all the way. And getting the old one out was no picnic either. Bad design.
Hey Virginia,
You are not alone. Seems to be a common difficulty.
Thx for watching!
how long does the filter last? depending on how much water go through it or how long ago it was reset?
Hi P N, the filter is supposed to be replaced every 6 months or after 170 gallons of water filter through it.
Below is a link to the info from GE where they explain how to remove the old filter and replace it with a new one: products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=21284
Hope this helps, good luck!
OMG. This was so helpful. You made is very clear that the part that is gray is the cartridge holder. Thank you!
Hi Dianne, glad you found this video to be helpful, thanks for your comments!
You are the one that showed that I had the grey holder. Then it was so simple to change it. I have been trying for days to twist it out and couldn’t do it. Thank you so much for making it so easy.
I refer to this video every time I have to change my filter. Thank you!
Hey Meg,
Awesome! We appreciate the multiple views!!
Thx for the help!
Thanks very easy
You are welcome! Thx for watching!
Hi: I replaced my filter following your instruction. The water that came out first looked light greenish/grayish. Can you please explain the reason? Is it safe to drink the water when it becomes clear? Thank you for your answer.
Ahsan Habib
GE recommends running 2 gallons thru the new filter before drinking the water.
Have a question my water pressure is not coming out so fast now. Does this have anything to do with my water filter? Time to change?
Hey Nick,
Has the pressure been decreasing gradually over time? Only at the fridge? Maybe possible...
Maybe call GE customer support. They may have a more certain idea..
Thx for watching!
great video but when I insert the filter in p[lace, it no longer turns back into its original position. What do you think we are doing wrong
Hi Suso, quite honestly we just kept moving the new filter around until it fit.
A viewer of ours, Terry M., has this to say: the back of the filter has to be tilted up. The new one goes in at slight angle. Hope this helps. Let us know how it works out.
I have the same refrigerator.
Info much appreciated. When we go to get water from the new filter we still get the message that says to change the filter. We have tried touching on the message but to no avail. Suggestions please.
Hey Connie,
I’d call GE.
I am having that message problem. Did you find an answer? Thank you. Patrick
You made it seem more complicated it's actually extremely easy you can do it blindfolded
I greatly appreciate the input you provide. I have a café refrigerator from GE and I have the RPWFE water filter. I removed the old one but I’m having a very hard time getting in the new one do you have any suggestions?
Hey Mark,
Are you sure you have the correct filter? I know they make at least 2 different kinds and they can’t be swapped.
Thx for watching!
I have read that the GE cafe refrigerator is very loud, do you have the same issue? Can you comment on the quality and experience so far?
Very helpful. Love the visual how-to and more specific instructions than were offered with the GE filter. Thanks!
Hi Wendy, we have encountered many products, especially tools and machines, that have terrible instruction booklets. So we spend a while figuring out how to use the item and make a video, figuring other people will probably also be trying to solve the riddles. Thanks so much for your comment, glad the video was helpful!
Filter will not seat into gray housing.
Hey @katielowen127,
Glad you liked it! Thx for watching!
Good luck!
Replaced with new filter. No leaks, but still say to replace filter.
So I have an issue. I replace the filter but still getting a notification that it’s overdue on the panel. How can I reset the panel on the outside?
Hi BlackSuccessPod, we have had success resetting the GE Cafe refrigerator by unplugging it for a minute or so and then plugging it back in -- hope this helps!
Had the NO RESET problem and i would say DONT UNPLUG the frig……go to the circuit breaker and use the breaker. You dont know what kind of water conection you have most likely and like me 8:30 at night is not a time to find out the copper piping has been bent nd flexed once too often…….AND the circuit breaker worked and the frig reset
Hey Paris…,
Thx for the help and for watching!
I can't get it to swing back. I have tried multiple times
Excellent.... simple and efficient video. changed the filter in less than 30 seconds.
Hey Shirley,
Nice job! Thanks for watching too.
I replaced my filter and now water barely runs through before dripping and stopping completely. And it now makes a loud rumbling noise. I thought it was just an air bubble but it's been two days now! What can I do?
Hey Brandon …,
Sure sounds like sir to me. I’d call manufacturer. I’m just not sure.
How do you replace a XWFE filter in a ge fridge?
Just to be clear if the gray on the inside connection of the fridge don't twist, not the blue on the replacement filter. I twisted and broke it.
I think it will be okay though
Hi Ann, in this video, the refrigerator that we are working on has a gray water filter housing. This type of filter will be removed by pulling it straight out, not twisting. Hope your replacement works out!
Is water supposed to be grey at first ? After your replace it
After changing the filter the light are still on asking to replace it, how do you turn them off? Thank you
Hi Gabrielle, try unplugging the refrigerator for about a minute, then plug it back in, hopefully 🤞 it will reset.
Thank you for this video, I destroyed a replacement filter before I found the video :/ lol
Hi Cinnamonstah, so happy this helped! Sounds like a lot of people are having difficulty installing their filters. Glad yours worked!
My fridge is not dispensing ice or water from the dispenser dont know if my water filter needs changing
Installed ours and it keeps leaking and popping out. Help!
How do I reset the system after I install new filter?
Quick question: How long before you can drink the water because it’s blue at first
Hi Josh, you have to run the water for about 5 minutes. After that you should be fine to drink the water.
Here are notes from GE:
Run 2 gallons of water through the cold water dispenser (about 5 minutes) to remove air from
the system. A newly installed filter cartridge will cause water to spurt from the dispenser. Use a large pitcher or
sports bottle to catch the water spray. NOTE: It is normal for water to appear discolored during the initial system flush.
Water color will return to normal after the first few minutes of dispensing.
Hope this helps!
@@Housebarons I also have the cheap version of that fridge without the LCD display
that's not the front, that's the side, and it points towards the back, (maybe put "left and right"?), GE is a bit silly, even putting a wing on the "back" fooling people, including me.. that it was a twist out. grr, not good GE.. silly wabbit.
After watching your video I installed new filter, purged system and water dispenser works but precise fill is no longer working, and it also isn’t counting cups or ounces. Water pressure is good. Have the exact Cafe as you do, with the Keurig. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
I accidentally made the white receiver twist to the left too far, now I can’t fit it in. Any solution for moving the white receiver over to the right?
Put the handle of a wooden spoon in the hole in the white part and and push it left or right move it where you need to.
8pm.
I twisted the filter on a grey housing and now I can't get a filter to line up. ?
Hey @barbaravollaro5681,
Double check the filter type. I know they make a couple different kinds which is confusing. Maybe call customer service...gotta be something simple...hopefully. Thx for watching!
Can a old filter cause the ice maker to stop working? My filter hasn't been changed in 2 years.
Replaced filter just as you did the display keeps saying replace filter and water does not work at all
Hey Laura,
Obviously, something isn’t right? Double check and make sure you have the exact right filter - I think they have different kinds and aren’t all comparable.
Thx for watching!
The water obviously needs to be turned off before replacing the filter, correct?
Hi Phil, we have not turned the water off to replace the filter and it has been fine. Good luck!
HouseBarons Yeah, changed it easily without turning water off. No issues, took about 30 seconds. 😊
I have never turned the water off and have successfully replaced this cartridge.
Lookout for cheaper ones even if say genuine GE. No RFID chip!
Hey Koch…,
Thx for the tip! And for watching!
How many times did you edit the times you took to put it back in. This isn’t working at all.
Hey Rob,
Lol!!!!
My bad!
I tried to replace the filter as you did. Water did not come out of my dispenser. I do not use the dispenser often . What could be the problem.
I must be playing this at the same time in two different places.......double sounds a few seconds off....wow
Cant get the filter push in to get it seeded
Hi Dawn, a viewer mentioned this, hope it helps: the back of the filter has to be tilted up. The new one goes in at slight angle.
What about the filter maintenance alert screen? Does it clear when filter is replaced ? Ordered my filter should be here tomorrow, so I am wondering.. thanks for any help and the video.
cant seem to get the filter out
Keep getting messdage dispencer off
Hi Shirley, we found a GE resource page that has a lot of info regarding the dispenser off message:products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=19693
Hope this helps. Let us know how it turns out. Good luck!
does it work for all GE models?
Hi PN, from GE: RPWFE will work with any refrigerator that currently uses GE's RPWF or RPWFE filters. It is used in select GE french-door refrigerators.
I had black stuff come out when I replaced it at first
Hey Nancy,
That may be charcoal from the filter?? ( if that’s what they use to filter)
Thx for watching!
My filter light won’t go out it still says it will expire in 7 days
May want to contact GE. They have made cafe’ unnessarily complicated to say the least.
I change my filter and now nothing comes out???
Hey Wendy,
Yikes! Gotta love GE. Take it out and retry again. Reread directions carefully. May have to contact GE customer support. Hard to say….
I can’t seem to close the door no matter how many times I try to line it up
The video was very informative and easy to follow. Thanks!
Sarah Cano Any luck? I have the same problem!
Hi Sarah, the following video from GE says that the filter might not be properly installed:ua-cam.com/video/IJ9dHSH-e4Q/v-deo.html
If that isn't the issue, I would do a factory reset, below are the instructions to do that:
How do you reset a GE Cafe Refrigerator?
Any tricks or suggestions
If you twisted, all hope may not be lost. Unplug and the replug the fridge, take out the filter, make sure that the "FRONT" lable is visible and push in. Good luck!
Hey Gerald,
Thx for the input and for watching!
Thank you so much....the ge manual does NOT tell you the difference between the grey and blue clip!!! Thank you!
Hey Claudine ,
Thx for watching!
Thanks a lot for the video. I need to replace the filter housing .I bought the housing already but can't find any video how to replace it . If you have any information about that please share.
Hey Rasim,
Sorry - no video on that. Thx for watching!
No matter what, after owning this fridge for 6 years, I cannot get my filter seated OR the bypass filter either. Help!!!!!
Hey Susan,
That sounds like a pain. Try GE customer support and see if they know the secret!
Thx for watching.
Yo I’m an idiot! I didn’t understand the concept of “running 2 gallons of water threw” I was looking for a place to run the water for an HOUR lol I found this video and when I seen him literally run the water threw I felt so stupid!
Hey Amanda,
Thx for finding us!! You are not stupid - just smarter now that you figured out what the manuals often don’t explain very well at times!
Thx for watching!!
Can’t get it in
Very helpful, but what happens if you can't the existing filter, in a gray housing, removed? We've pulled hard and it won't budge and are afraid that something will break.
Hey BeAnn,
Be sure and call customer service rather than risk breaking something. Maybe they have a “trick”…?
Thx for watching!
