Lily was able to feel genuine emotion, even though she already knew the song. She was able to interpret a person who had really heard Yesterday for the first time. Watch her as Malik stares at the guitar in its case. She's perfect, flawless.
Imagine hearing Beatles music for the first time Most of us were children when we first heard these songs and can’t recall exactly the moment we first fell into the whole Beatles music scene

That was because I'd be listening to the radio on a car journey and the music would come on the radio and I'd be completely transfixed by it. I would ask my dad what the song was and who it was by and it would always be The Beatles. Edit: The first Beatles song I ever heard was The Fool on the Hill.
A ‘simple’ movie but very enjoyable to watch, beautiful and emotional. People’s first reactions to hearing Yesterday, The Long And Winding Road, or Something (deleted scene, do yourself a favour and get the DVD to see it) are amazing. Plus his singing of Help, his meeting John who lives an anonymous life… Many great moments!
Also I liked the funny moments, such as the “Hey Dude” version, or when he keeps being interrupted when playing Let It Be for the 1st time to his parents!
This movie was so brilliant because it allowed us, for a short time, to imagine the pure excitement of hearing the music of the Beatles for the first time, something that my mother got to experience but I didn't, having been born a few years after they broke up. It was a lovely feeling, that's for sure. I'm glad I saw this.

A world without the Beatles actually did exist for billions of years.. and we are the lucky ones to be in an era where we actually play it whenever we want for free.
This scene was really nicely shot. Especially when they showed scenes from the area, not just focusing it on fhe people at the table. It grounds the scene in the real world and maybe reminds us of a particular time when we heard Yesterday and it had a special resonance for us. Also, this was the first time I really was struck by Lily James' loveliness - probably because she was in everyday clothes and she sparkled in them anyway.
It really made sense for the movie too. He knew we was living a lie. He didn't know what to do, and he had just learned that the girl he was unknowingly in love with forever had just gotten a boyfriend. Great movie, I ended up falling in love with Lily James again. She was great in Baby Driver as well.

Across the Universe from 2007 asked the question “how does the Beatles’ world looks like?” Yesterday answered it with a great “how does OUR world look like if the Beatles never existed?” And it was *perfect.*
Why does our world look the exact same though. If the Beatles never existed there is a huge chance British Rock and Roll doesn't take off. The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, etc. never exist then too. It would be much more interesting if the movie asked the questions about the importance of music history. It seems like it tries to but misses the mark entirely.
Honestly loved the premise of this movie. I wish they would have explored more with other things that were now missing like oasis’s catalog! It really is one of my favorite films.
No Beatles means a lot of bands or artists don’t exist… Ozzy got into music because he was a fan of the Beatles, Kurt Cobain wanted Nirvana to be Beatle lyrics combined with the sound of Black Sabbath. Carpenters first hit was a Lennon/McCartney song. The Monkees wouldn’t exist. The list goes on.
The premise was the same that in the french movie "Jean-Philippe", where the main character is the only one to remember of Johnny Halliday, great french singer. Good movie too :)
This movie is amazing, because it is about The Beatles without being a biopic. The actors, the music, the humor and the process of reinventing the legendary songs - what can be better than that! And Lily James of course. And they had an amazing scene with Ana de Armas but something went wrong apparently.
A friend is an obsessive McCartney fan. I advised him against seeing this movie. He went with his wife anyway and walked out mid way through it. As great as this movie is, it isn't for everyone.
I used to have this theory that Ed Sheeran was actually a time traveler who came back in time to write/perform popular songs before their actual artists could think them up -- because his songs vary and can sound like other popular artists of this generation. So to see him in this movie about someone stealing Beatles songs in their absence felt like a real rubbing-it-in-your-face move by Ed.
Yeah, they were kind of stalking him, so I was not sure how they felt. Good to see they were just glad to have someone making the music they remember. I wonder how many people in that world remember them - and why? 😎
What is really strange is that I wrote the exact same script ten years ago, and It's not a joke. I called it "yesterday", and the guy woke up after a car accident. I think it's quite ironic considering the subject of the story.
One of my favorite movies of all time. After this movie, I listened to nothing but the beatles for a year straight. I knew of them before hand but never appreciated their music until after I had watched the movie.
I have a theory that this is actually a Marvel Movie. Sophia Di Martino isn’t playing Carol. She’s a Loki variant and brought Jack into an alternate time line while running from the TVA.
Exactly my thought, the songs were so a part of the time they were originally written. I found it hard to believe that they would have the same impact on current times. It was a nice unique movie, but that was the one issue I had with it.
I don't think a lot of songs would exist today if it were not for the Beatles. After all, they popularized the modern pop song. I doubt WAP would exist if it were not for the Beatles.
@@chrisnezar5918 I should have added when not performed by the Beatles themselves. Someone took their work and presented it as their own in current times in a world that didn’t know the Beatles. The movie made it seem like anyone that did that would immediately become famous just from the songs. That ignored the personalities and musical talent that also was part of the Beatles. It was just a movie, but that premise bothered me.
They do have the same effect. Every generation falls in love with this band all over again. This movie made like 70 million. You think this premise would have made that much with any other band?

great scene.. I loved the movie. and, lily james.. so gorgeous playing a "plain jane" here.. so obvious here but he doesn't realize how much she loves him until end of the movie.. oh man.. the way she looks at him as he's playing Yesterday. fantastic. cheers.
Imagine you're an ordinary musician who wakes up one day to find that the Beatles have never existed - except in your memory • your four best friends have never heard "Yesterday" • even Google can't find them • all your Beatles albums are missing
I think i'd start shouting at people , then think everyone was in on the joke, except me, then start worrying that it was true, then think i was going insane, then talk to a music historian, then probably start crying. And ' then ' think about recording the songs.

Across the Universe from 2007 asked the question “how does the Beatles’ world looks like?”
Yesterday answered it with a great “how does OUR world look like if the Beatles never existed?”
And it was *perfect.*
It looked exactly the same, which is a weird premise for a movie.
Try that first question again dummy
Why does our world look the exact same though. If the Beatles never existed there is a huge chance British Rock and Roll doesn't take off. The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, etc. never exist then too. It would be much more interesting if the movie asked the questions about the importance of music history. It seems like it tries to but misses the mark entirely.
This concept only works because that song is utterly undeniably amazing
I feel like this movie was so underrated
I just Loved this movie. Especially when he drove to meet John Lennon. I cried. Beautifully made and well acted
Honestly loved the premise of this movie. I wish they would have explored more with other things that were now missing like oasis’s catalog! It really is one of my favorite films.
They did explore Oasis. He said it figures when he can't find them, no Beatles means no Oasis.
@@andrewft31Ed Sheeran himself would never be famous
@@andrewft31I mean yeh, music would be completely different. You could even argue whole genres wpuldnt exist eg Thrash metal without Helter Skelter
By "more things missing" I assume @vnxasian was hoping for more scenes like the Oasis reference, not lack of an Oasis reference.@@finnwheetley7353
I love this movie..Can you imagine this happening?? The premise is awesome.
@@cdjhyoung I guess you're right. Having pre set expectations could also ruin any experience.
I loved this movie.
I’m confused why this movie didnt rate so well.
Can’t get what’s more beautiful . The original or this cover.
John Lennon sang on Bowie's "Fame" which was one of the albums he pulled down out of his collection...
Lily James is so talented and so beautiful!
I have never watched this but that is such a unique concept for a movie, I definitely gotta give it a watch at some point.
seen it yet?

In the original screenplay, he was the only one who remembered the Beatles, but when he played their songs, nobody cared!
@@robdisnerAxed because it wasn’t believable.
@@spiraljumper74 The fact that the premise is unbelievable is one of the most charming aspects of the story.
I feel sorry for people who hate this movie. Truly.
A favourite part of the movie is the Beatles fans that thank him for playing the music they love ❤️ 😂
most cringeworthy don't you mean.
Such a fanatstic movie !!! Can't believe I had forgotten it.
I'm a fans of the Beatles and when i watch this i feel the music of the Beatles its remind me all of wonderful song of Beatles
One of my favorite movies of all time. After this movie, I listened to nothing but the beatles for a year straight. I knew of them before hand but never appreciated their music until after I had watched the movie.
It was a phenomenal movie. Flew under the radar !
I can’t imagine a world where people haven’t sung along with the Na Na Na Na part of Hey Jude at the top of their lungs. It would be a tragedy.
Seen this video like two hours ago, went quickly and watched the movie, two hours later finished it and loved it so so much!!!
That was such a great movie. Definitely a must see.
The only people who didn't seem to like it are the critics for whatever reason
I have a theory that this is actually a Marvel Movie. Sophia Di Martino isn’t playing Carol. She’s a Loki variant and brought Jack into an alternate time line while running from the TVA.
Im glad to see Sylvie finally got to live out a normal life. She seems happy here.
The moment he says wow to Ellie is the moment he should have said he loved her.
Aren’t y’all tired of interracial relationships with white women
Most unrealistic part of this movie? That guitar being tuned perfectly without him even testing it before launching into song
I honestly don't think these songs would have had the same effect today as they did back then when they came out.
Exactly my thought, the songs were so a part of the time they were originally written. I found it hard to believe that they would have the same impact on current times. It was a nice unique movie, but that was the one issue I had with it.
There's no way to know that.
One of the best films ever.
The pub scene was so good. Loved this film, sue me 😂
I remember this movie way back 2019 I was wearing The Beatles black shirt and my Papa is huge fan of The Beatles and he love the movie and he cried a little bit when the scene John Lennon is alive. Even though I'm just 17 yrs old before I already love most of the songs it's simple, meaningful, full of joy, and love. That is why their songs is one of the greatest song that I've heard in my life as well.
This movie was cute and fun with a couple of really beautiful moments. Thanks for posting this clip!
great scene.. I loved the movie. and, lily james.. so gorgeous playing a "plain jane" here.. so obvious here but he doesn't realize how much she loves him until end of the movie.. oh man.. the way she looks at him as he's playing Yesterday. fantastic. cheers.
oh yeah.. what else no longer existed. band Oasis, what, cigarettes? and coke? stuff I caught on second watching. lololz
didn't notice but thats actually Sylvie in another timeline where the beatles didnt exist
The Yesterday playing scene is a complete masterpiece
Imagine you're an ordinary musician who wakes up one day to find that the Beatles have never existed - except in your memory
• your four best friends have never heard "Yesterday"
• even Google can't find them
• all your Beatles albums are missing
I think i'd start shouting at people , then think everyone was in on the joke, except me, then start worrying that it was true, then think i was going insane, then talk to a music historian, then probably start crying. And ' then ' think about recording the songs.
This movie deserves more attention
