Roy Orbison was So Loved here in the U.K . So no surprise his songs charted so High over here . He sang with such Emotion it's hard not to have an odd tear in the eye listening to him .2 of My faves You got it and I drove all night wasn't on here but they are all Great Ones ! 😊👏
A Great Top Ten here Evan David ! A lovely Tribute Also to Poet GB . I am sure As an Elvis fan he would of known of the friendship and respect Roy and Elvis had for each other too. Both Legends of course . Thankyou Shawn for your breakdown of such beautiful songs . 😊
I finally got a chance to listen to this and what a great job, Evan David. A belated congrats to you. There's a few things I might have changed around but that's just me. The live Black and White version of Oh Pretty Woman is just a hoot and the perfect cherry top to this sundae. There were more stars on that stage and in that room than on a cloudless night in the middle of nowhere. Springsteen was clearly have a ball but I don't think it was just because of Roy Orbison. He was trading licks with Jim Burton who has been around forever and is well respected by anyone I've ever heard speak of him. He is probably best known for his work with Rick Nelson and Elvis Presley (although he has worked with everyone from Suzi Quatro to Joni Mitchell).
Great picks by Evan David, here are my top 10 songs by the Big O: 10-You Got It 9-Memories 8-A Love So Beautiful 7-Only The Lonely 6-Oh, Pretty Woman 5-She’s A Mystery To Me 4-I Drove All Night 3-California Blue 2-Crying 1-In Dreams
In 1988 Orbison recorded a greatest hits concert on Cinemax called "Roy Orbison and Friends:A Black and White Night" that is amazing. He sings his hits with the help of Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Jackson Brown, k.d. Lang, and others. It is available as a soundtrack on streaming services. Just a great concert and a good starting point for anyone who wants to explore his catalog.
Yes it is on the full video if you watch it one of the songs is from this. Great seeing all the greatness around him, Tom Waits is playing the piano. Thanks!
For a devotee this must have been one of the hardest top 10s to put together, but I was pleased that my top 3 all had respectable showings here (Running Scared, Only the Lonely and Oh Pretty Woman). Overall I've always been more a Gene Pitney guy when it comes to this sort of thing, but you can't deny the talent!
In Dreams and I Drove All Night are my faves and hard as Hell to sing karaoke to, but I love a good challenge! Blue Bayou rounds out my top 3 with The Traveling Wilburys "Handle With Care" in hot pursuit!
