I sort of relate to you.
I had an Xbox 360 growing up and I didn't really get to play it much since I was just a little kid at the time. But I distinctly remember all the times where I would see my brothers playing Halo: Reach, and that made me want to play these games so much. Around 4 months ago (at the time of typing this) I bought the Halo Master Chief Collection on Steam. And so, I finally got to experience all the fun of those games that I (almost) never had as a kid.

Fantastic video. I really enjoyed this thoughtful analysis/retrospective of the series. My all time favorite anime: CLANNAD. My all time favorite video game: Halo 2. @Totaraum has some dang good taste!
I really love your content! The little comedic moments of just playing Halo with the boiz is so nostalgic. The mishandling of Infinite is the biggest let down for me, because I completely agree the core gameplay and even the story (for me) was fantastic, but wow they really needed an extra year in the oven to give us the launch it truly deserved.
You really got that gamer body.
I remember playing "the beach level" (silent cartographer) at Toy's R Us with my friends. I remember finally getting my own Xbox (Dreamcast 2 at the time) and rushing home after school to play through CE with my friend. I remember watching the Halo 2 E3 demo a billion times then downloading it to my Nokia 7810 to watch a billion times more. I remember driving around for hours with my mum after school because Halo 3 launched earlier that week and it was still sold out everywhere (she's the🐐for that). Maybe my time has passed, but I'm so glad to have all those memories.

Played all of them loved 1,2,3,ODST, and Reach. 4 and 5 are bad, mp was fun though. Idk about infinite.
Fuck I'd be lying if I said I didn't have fun playing Halo 2 and 3 whenever I visited my cousins, that's a decent chunk of my childhood. And then there came a point where I stopped going; and my family never bought any version of the XBox, we were mostly a Nintendo and Sony household.
Now a part of me is tempted to get the MCC if there's another sale 👀

Yo bro. how do you feel about an ending to Clannad where the Ushio in the illusionary world only makes Okazaki go back to when he finds out that Ushio is ill like Nagisa, but only this time she doesn't fall ill and they go to the festival at the kindergarten(fulfilling his wish to be with Ushio forever). Then, some time passes and he marries Kyou or tomoyo or whoever. This wouldn't invalidate the hidden world side story too.
I didn't think of this ending because i like kyou or tomoyo better than Nagisa but I think it would deliver a better message than him just ignoring/invalidating Episode 16-21. That no matter how traumatic/sad life gets you have to find your own happiness(Like what Okazaki told Nagisa at the start of the series). I kinda think making Ushio AND Nagisa return was kind of an asspull(my opinion).
How about a video discussing this ending?
I can see where you’re coming from. The anime was definitely in a tough spot because I think the ending we got only works really well in the visual novel.
Alternatively, I would be interested to see where that world continues, but only because I want more clannad lol

You lnow, Halo CE is the one mega-popular game that clicked with me the least. I can safely say that I hate it with the passion
One thing that I can't stand in my games is copy-pasted design, words "procedurally generated" awake the dread in me, and Halo levels feel like they were done just like that. When you fight in the fifth goddamn literally idettical arena in a row - it's infuriating. So, I reached the flood and even the gameplay became copypasted, so I noped the fuck out of the game forever. I tried. It's a shame, it was lovely in the rare non copypasted moments.
Tried Halo 2 a little (I played coop up to the first Arbiter level), and the game seemed to improve qiute a bit. I guess I need to try to play the rest of the series
For sure try the rest of the games, and I don’t blame you for disliking ce. It’s the one that I return to the least but I still think it’s fantastic for the time

Edit: But to actually expand beyond a little quip, Halo definitely meant a lot to me when Bungie was at the helm. Heck I have not played any 343 Halo game except for like a level or two of 4 (when visiting an old good friend. So yeah, the beloved co-op you speak of. I had moved away in 2012 before 4 ever came out and my Xbox 360 red ringed a second time, so I didn't bother picking up the console after my move.)
I played lots of H:CE on my PC back when that port came out. Great times. Though the port was a bit messy by PC standards it was still perfectly acceptable. And yeah for any friends that had an Xbox it was often a game we turned to for multiplayer.
When Halo 2 came out, I think our family had moved to a different city again so despite being super excited about the game, I didn't have any friends at the time I hung out with regularly who had an Xbox. I happened to get an Xbox 360 when it came out and because of backwards compatibility was able to play it there. But yeah I wasn't rocking Xbox Live so it was really just a single player experience for me. All the levels on Earth in the early parts of the game are so much fun though. Love that portion perhaps the most of any Halo game. Though unlike you I don't feel too strongly about the story. I found that the simpler to the point tales of H:CE and Reach be the most ideal for this franchise. Not to say that each game didn't have specific moments that made me a little emotional or made my face go :O at times.
Halo 3 though... man. Our family had moved again to a place where I would make a really good tight friend group that I'm still close to to this day (even if I'm in a different city. Again, that 2012 move I spoke of earlier). For one, I absolutely loved the campaign. But this time around Halo 3 would become a massive mainstay for multiplayer reasons. Both online and splitscreen. And because this was a time where we were transitioning to adulthood and started moving out on our own or going to college, LAN parties were a thing. Halo 3 basically was king for multiplayer for us for like 5 years straight. Modern Warfare 1 and 2 at times coming close. So much variety and forge of course. Just the best of the best memories. Like the one track is called, Never Forget.
ODST was fun and I loved the different tone. That endless wave multiplayer mode was neat. Incredible soundtrack. But essentially this is all wrapped up in our continuing enjoyment of the multiplayer side which was still tied to Halo 3 technically. ODST I think came with a multiplayer disc or something which contained the Halo 3 multiplayer and also added new maps I think? Those maps likely could have been bought on Xbox Live if one didn't buy ODST. Anyways, yeah. A continuation of the good vibes we all had for the franchise.
Reach, I only played through the campaign once. And I don't really have anything to say. I just don't fully remember my thoughts on the gameplay of the campaign all that much. Something I will remedy on PC as I have the MCC there, but at the moment my laptop is ancient. So I'll get to that in time (next year or two as I'm due for an upgrade like yesteryear lol). The multiplayer though did not stick for us. For me personally the verticality of the gameplay was difficult for me on a controller (not so much in single player). Something that might not hinder me on a mouse and keyboard.
And that was kinda it. Bungie moved on. People didn't care much for 4 and 5 so I didn't really care that I didn't have an Xbox console to play them. Don't really care about Halo anymore. But for a span of like a decade, awesome memories.
