I like to think that Chief is considered the average because he is the standard unit of measurement for spartans "You have a 0.96 Master Chief of height, a 1.03 Master Chiefs of weight, a 0.93 Master Chief of speed..."

@QuantemDeconstructor everyone on Noble except Jorge were Spartan 3s. They don't even come close. The best Spartan 3 would get curbstomped by the worst Spartan 2.
Except he’s not average. He has average “stats”. That’s like looking at a football players bench squat and 40 time but ignoring that they’ve won MVP for the last 20 years. It’s a nonsense comparison to say he’s “average” when he’s unequivocally proven he’s the most efficient warrior in history.

I doubt he would do that unless the Flood returned. Don't forget if he repairs and fires the ring, which is something he was trying to prevent happening the entirety of Halo Infinite's campaign he kills all the Marines, Fernando, and anything else living within a 10000 light year radius of the ring.
@@sorrenblitz805he would prob fight to send the ring through a portal with New Cortana's help, like the end of Halo Wars 2, and then detonate once he was sure it was out of range of human colonies.
I feel like we've already had one of those fake-out climaxes, what with Chief choosing to detonate the nuke and sacrifice himself, only to have Cortana save him.

Slight correction, The bible verse you are referring to is Revelations 1:17. "When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last." Love your content, keeping Halo alive, cheers!
When I first read that comment, I didn’t recognise where the verse you were including ended. So for a sec I thought the Bible loved the reader’s comment and that they were keeping Halo alive.
Chief is absolutely not an average strategist and tactician. Besides the “ luck” plot armor device, that’s where he shines the most. It’s why he was made a leader early on. Look at Noble team. Carter is the leader not because he’s the strongest ( Jorge), best shot (jun), or best with tech (Kat). He’s the leader because he’s the best strategist and simply the best at leading. Same reason Chief was in charge of blue team. Which is arguably the best Spartan team.
No. He was not chosen as a leader early on because of his strategic acumen. (Though he displays a competent degree of such.) There are better strategists among the Spartan IIs. The Master Chief was chosen because he demonstrated _accountability,_ integrity, and a willingness to prioritize the needs of his Spartans over his personal needs or wants. This was a learned trait, and the one that made him mature enough to be a leader over the other options.
@@admiralmurphy1543 I misread the first comment, this is true. Chief is basically a born leader. He doesn’t excel the most at anything including tactics but he is a person that inspires. As the video says, his presence alone inspires an amount of hope and willpower that would be otherwise impossible the achieve without him
@@admiralmurphy1543 you’re wrong. This isn’t Boy Scout camp. Leaders aren’t chosen in special operations teams because they have integrity. They are chosen because of their tactical prowess and ability to get result. Look at a noble team. Carter is not the best at any particular skill other than tactical decision making and leadership

Always loved Halos deeper lore, Chief possibly being trans-sentient along with the Ur Diadact considering he was immune to the composer too gives me goose bumps
Too bad 343 seems to have completely forgot about that plot line. Come on kids, let’s go fight the red covenant and endless (whatever that is) with the guy from fortnight and autistic baby Cortana! GOD, shit has gone downhill…
halo lore stopped being deep when 343 took over with the exception of small insignificant things. the composer nonsense was done away with in what felt like a 5 minute cinematic its so stupid
14:28 this. I remember playing that game, so young. Being scared out of my mind in the sixth mission, but I had to steel myself. I'm a super soldier. The Master Chief. This is just another Saturday. Chills!
Oh boy, 343 Guilty Spark was a huge rug pull for me. I started the game on my friend's Xbox and got to Assault on the Control Room. I thought it was just aliens. So when I got my own Xbox and played Halo for myself all the way through, I wasn't ready. 9 year old me saw the zombies and ran, I ran from them as much as I could. Then I got to the Library, and oh God the trauma. I barely remember Keyes because I just ran through it trying to avoid the Flood. I openly admit I finished Halo CE as a kid with mostly pacifist behavior for the Flood missions. It wasn't until Halo 2 that I said alright let's do this, and burned a righteous path through the festering horde. When Halo 3 released I was 15 and I was ready for them, and I sent the Gravemind to the Shadow Realm.
8:20 Don't forget that the Librarian also did something with the recessed genetics that were hidden away in the human genome. We don't really know the extent to which that has affected his physiology.
It reactivated his sex drive, which is why he was so determined to get Cortana back in halo 5, he probably had no idea it was back and was like, what tf is this? Why do I…. FEEL SHIT? 😂
On Master Chief feeling fear. The detail of Chief watching Jenkins recording and immediately realizing he's in the same room where those marines died. You can actually see how he's frightened, he's scared, this is the one time we see him like this as he's about to face a cosmic horror. And yet he composes himself and manages to get out of there. On the first mission as well, while a Marine is scared to his bones that theyre not going to make it on the life pod. Chief actually puts a hand on his shoulder as trying to calm him down. Chief actually feels bad for that Marine as he ubderstands their situation is quite a difficult one. These little humanizing details from Master chief remind you that there's a human there. John is under that helmet.
Honestly, I loved listening to these facts about Chief. I didn't know basically any of these, so it's great to know more about our Master Chief. Especially that last fact about Chief with the Halos. That was very surprising, and it would be very cool and interesting if it's true. I hope we can see more 10 facts about Halo characters in the future.
Master chief's "stats/skills" might be average but, the way he incorporated all of his abilities exceed all other spartans and he has proven it multiple times. Both cortana and Halsey said john was lucky but, have also stated they don't believe in luck. John consciously/subconsciously blended all of his abilities to become the best of all worlds.
So, prior service Sailor here. While it is correct that the Master Chief Petty Officer of The Navy (MCPON or "Mick-Pon" as it's pronounced) is occupied by a singular person, it literally cannot be given upon death as a posthumous promotion. It can be retained upon death, I believe. MCPON is a Master Chief specifically chosen as the highest ranking NCO in the entire Navy, and has to be currently active and living to obtain the rank. He/she reports directly to the main higher-ups in the Navy/military like the Fleet Admiral (five star Admiral, only appointed during a time of war as the de facto Commanding Officer of the Navy) Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV), Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) and others with similar positions of authority. So, unless John-117 was already appointed as MCPON (which isn't actually much of a stretch, considering the current person in charge of ONI is also a Spartan II), the Navy could have appointed him as MCPON prior to the events of Halo 3.
7:17 It's also entirely possible that the things the Librarian did to him only improved his genetics even further, so he might age even more slowly than that.
When you were talking about the rank promotions and how it required approval from a board of master chiefs, I couldn't help but imagine a bunch of green fully armored Spartans in business suits sitting around a circular table.
The Chief wasn't "average." He was just good at everything. But what set him apart was his knack for winning. His ability to adapt and be an effective leader. John always found a way to win. From when he was very young he knew how to win in any situation. This is why he is the best Spartan.
The more I hear about the Spartans in true detail the more I realize; they're closer to 40ks Space Marines than I think a lot of nerds would like them to be
@@sorrenblitz805 Even the S-IVs can do stuff Marines can do, apparently. Hell if we go by Initiation, they get almost as many implants. New organs too.
@@sorrenblitz805 cause they actually are, I we look at feats, like what they actually do, real advantage a started have are probably gear, and experience since they are trained for like a hundred years and live centuries, but again, I don't really know that much 40k lore but as I heard from many fans, lore is often inconsistent in novels mostly
Would be cool to learn more about the regular soldiers. Yeah the ODST & spartans are great, but I feel like there's probably a lot of hard work, training & great stories that goes into being just a regular soldier that gets overshadowed by people falling from the sky in metal coffins and super-soldiers.
The lore conflicts with itself. Because Chief is the _only_ “Hyper Lethal Vector” aside from Noble 6. You can’t be _just average_ at everything and be the best overall.
You have to remember that the "hyper lethal" designation has no grounding in the lore. It was an advent of the Reach game to prop up the empty lifeless shell of Noble 6, and the only way they could make anyone care is to try and make him comparative to 117. So they made up a nonsense term that, in reality, every single S2 would hold after 30 years of war.
@Jessie_Helms I didn't say he wasn't. But he was an advent strictly for the game. A single use sharp if you will. Chief and blue team are in over a dozen books. Chief in more than that. Red team in some, Grey team in some. Noble 6 has nothing but the game and some weak promotional material. No origin book. No mentions other than a few sentences between Buck and Jun in one single book. He was a shallow character by comparison to Chief and the majority of Spartans
So...heroic man in green with generally average skills compared with his peers but his one exceptional ability is extremely high luck you say. Does this describe THE Master Chief? Yes it does! Does this also describe Kazuma Sato from Konosuba? Also yes! Therefore, Chief is video games Kazuma and Kazuma is anime Chief. Only question is who is luckier? Lol
The fact about the biblical reference to John 117 blew my mind. I've been a massive fan of this franchise since the very beginning, and this is by far the biggest mind blower I've ever felt with MC.
I don’t think Master Chief is average on everything, he was a genius on Tactics, Leadership and Strategy. And I also believe he was incredibly swift agile and skilled as an individual combatant
117 regularly got crushed in training missions by Kurt 051. He was insanely smarter than John. Kelly 087 was the fastest Spartan by a wide margin. Fred was their top CQC guy and it was stated in the books that he came in second in every contest and training with the chief himself believing he could have come in first but didn't want the attention. Best case scenario for John he was occasionally in the top 3 but it was rare.
I seem to recall from the books John I don’t think was necessarily average per say. I think I remember a line about how he would consistently come 2nd or close to that position in boot camp but then you would have Fred, Kelly, Linda excelling in their respective skills. He however was the best “all around” spartan + his “luck” and also I could have sworn it was Frank Mendez aka the OG “chief” who bestowed upon him the rank of Master Chief and gave John a coin Halsey had given him as a child in that exchange.
You're thinking about Fred with the 2nd place thing and og chief giving him the rank im not sure if that was ever the case but if it was it was retconned to be the ODST commander.
Chief is a measurement unit for the Spartans. If Chief can run a mile in less than 10 sec, Kelly will beat that. If Chief can bench press a tank, Jorge could probably lift a five tanks.
Think it’s pretty safe to say the Believe content has been retconned with the events of Halo 4 and later entries. The entire trailer was setup as a dedication piece to closing days of the Human-Covenant war at the end of which Master Chief is presumed dead/MIA as he never returned from installation 00. His “burial” was an entirely symbolic gesture to honour him. Bungie had for all intensive purposes intended Halo 3 to be their last game in the the franchise.
@@sorrenblitz805 Master Chief is an enlisted rank, not an officer rank. Though if I remember right all the spartan under the UNSC army like noble team and kurt are officers.
I haven’t seen anything about Spartan-IIs getting paid (probably changed especially since there’s one Spartan in lore who retired and still tests MJOLNIR for the UNSC) but by the time of Halo 5 Fred is technically a pay grade above Chief but leaves Blue Team in his leadership willfully.
@travisvanalst4698 ehhhh, i don't think so, an average soldiers gear costs thousands of dollars, imagine if that came out of their salary, or if they need mission specific equipment or gods help them, a close air support run or something. none of that factors into their pay, so why should a spartans gear and equipment?
I like to think John's averageness is something like, his stats are all 90/100, except luck which is like 150 While other Spartans have mostly 80s and then they excel at one skill like Kelly with Speed or Jorge with Strength
I feel like saying Chief is an average Spartan is really selling him short. Like sure maybe his skills when he started were average for a Spartan but Chief has been in constant combat basically nonstop for about 32 years. Even with all the augmentations and skill it still can’t compare to that amount of experience.
If Chief can be up to 450 years old and he’s only 49 while that’s considered 10% of his life. Chief is technically around 10 years old, he’s just a baby saving humanity. 🥰
Fun fact: Before Halo 4, chief was given the rank Master Chief of the Navy posthumously after Halo 3. This rank can been seen on his memorial during the scene where Lord Hood and the Arbiter exchange words with each other. Whether he still attains this rank post halo 3 is something we’ll never know as 343 has given us very little info about it. Most likely they have forgotten this fact or just simply do not care as 343 usually does Edit: is actually nice to know Installation 00 touched on this topic. Most Halo fans don’t remember this small tidbit so its nice to know someone paid as much details to the lore as I did in my youth.
Master Chief just proves that a man that can do everything at an average level is better than someone who is number one at something at the expense of not being able to do something else.
Nice, love yr content. Sorry haven't commented lately, had a health scare. Had to knock off the grog and and take a new road in life. Still love yr videos, and will carry on supporting yr channel
I love the idea of chief being immune to the halo firing. I imagine he takes on the role of the doom marine. Surrounded by flood, with nothing to fight for, he just fights, out of sheer hate and will to kill the flood, and flood learns fear 😈
Jack of all trades, master of none. However being good at everything equally in it of itself is dope. Every area someone lacks in you excel in comparison.
MCPON is a highly administrative role and would never be held by a field operator like John. It was almost definitely a posthumous honorary promotion. It makes sense though considering the MCPON mainly tours the fleet promoting morale and proper training for the enlistedmen, which is a role John already sort of filled through his hero status.
Quick clarification on the whole Biblical reference thing.. 18:56 The verse read is not from the Gospel of John, but actually from the Book of Revelation which was written by the Apostle John, the same guy that wrote the Gospel of John and the Epistles (or letters) of 1st, 2nd, & 3rd John. The verse read is about how the Apostle John had a vision and saw Jesus and the character/proclamation of who Jesus is, starting in verse 1 through the end of verse 20 of chapter 1.
I think the three stars next to Chief’s name are right. While it signifies the MCPO of the Navy, perhaps it’s meant that John-117 is the MCPO of the Spartans. Or at least, the Spartan II’s.
One thing I think that should be mentioned is that John is the best spartan at one thing, nothing. What I mean is, he is the perfect Jack of all trades, master of none. And that alone is what makes him the best, by not being the best at any one thing.
Chuck Norris, Thor, and every other god of war. Except Atriox. Atriox rag dolled him. It bothers me so much we as of now have no hope of seeing a rematch.
I think people call it luck, but where every spartan excels in one field I believe master chief excels in is seeing opportunities. In the first game he rides a literal covenant bomb to blow up a covenant ship. He saw the opportunity and took it calculating the risks on the spot and making the right choices. I believe that’s why he is the leader because he doesn’t see things like other Spartans but rather sees opportunities and can capitalize on them.
I’d like to see 10 facts about the Gamma Spartan III’s like I personally have trouble wrapping my head around the fact that 300 something S-III’s are just MIA from lore and you done hear much about them specifically
It bothers me to no end that we're constantly introduced to new Alpha and Beta Spartans but we've only seen one new Gamma since Ghosts of Onyx and she didn't even get a name
We definitely need more gamma company, have them re-augmented to fix the smoother issue and give them new ID's to hide them and slip them in among S4's, that or have them all turned into new head hunters and ONI spec ops teams
In Halo Wars and Halo Wars 2 we see literally everyone within cryopods wearing clothing. I had no idea about the blistering fact. Does that make halo wars not accurate to the cannon?
@Xander .357 I can't say I fully agree with that. I really enjoyed Halo Reach but I'm an old man. I'm 38 years old and I played Halo CE in high school when it came out. So for me seeing what happened before CE was really cool and I very much enjoyed it. I don't play multiplayer though.
I feel that being average would help like I would rather get a B in all my school subjects than an A in one have and a C in the other. This just makes it so he can conquer any challenge even if he doesn’t excel at some…
On the ending.... I have a feeling that the news that the Chief is alive and still fighting isn't that well known the wider public, and I say this for a few reasons: 1. To our knowledge, the only time he's been to Earth, he was in his Armor, ergo, if he was ever allowed to go on leave, and he went to Earth, most people wouldn't recognize him, especially if he was wearing civilian clothing. 2. Since his rescue in Halo 4, the only human ship he's been on, again, to our knowledge, is the UNSC Infinity, and there aren't a whole lot of people filling out blogs on that ship given that it's the mobile home base of the Spartan program (well... it was anyway). 3. The Master Chief monument mentioned in the Believe campaign I imagine was probably built as a more permanent monument some time after the events of Halo 3. As such, they may have chosen to make it in Chiefs image as he represented the whole fight the most. Even today, we have built monuments to events and those that represented those events were still alive when the monument was built. The Iwo Jima memorial immediately jumps to mind as one such example. If my memory is correct, of the ones who raised the flag, 3 were still alive for a press tour, and of them, two were still alive to see the memorial be built. So, ultimately, I think in 2590, Chief will probably still be alive. But I don't think he'll be on the front lines. I think by then, he'll be the one that greets future Spartans: "You have been called upon to serve. And we will make you the best that we can."
I think since Spartan II's already can fight for over 100 years, and he's got Forerunner Genetic Upgrades, he'll likely be fighting fit until he's close to 300 years old. I also think he'll choose to be on the front lines that long because warfare is all he knows. There are better choices for the title of Spartan Farmer. Agryna will probably be at it for at least a decade so that takes us to 2571. One of her Spartans will probably take over from there, and maybe in time Chief will lead a new Blue Team made up of Spartan IV's and maybe even Spartan V's. However, as a Spartan II, John will always belong on the Battlefield, doing his duty, protecting Humanity no matter the cost.
Bro, even when i first played HaloCe as a kid i knew... that at the end or point, he'd die but in the most LEGENDARY way possible. & whats crazy, is that we sorta got a glimpse of how that end would be like in Halo Legends in Origins II ( the 2nd video in the movie )
As to your point about the flood not being affected by the Halo array, if I recall correctly there's footage in the Halo CE anniversary terminals that clearly shows flood biomass and forms being swept away in the wake of the firing of the array. I thought that confirmed that they were being targeted too.
Please, on everything good and holy, elaborate the Master Chief being the first human transcendent! My smooth brain is throbbing tryna wrap itself around the ramifications of this realization!! Lmao
I do have an issue with that Fred is now a commissioned officer and out ranks Chief. I get that they thought John was dead but what's wrong with Fred getting the same or similar rank to Chief.
Chief being the average at everything reminds me a little bit of a trackmania streamer name Wirtual. Trackmania is a racing game with many surfaces and styles, each requiring their own unique skillset to master. Wirtual is top 1000 on every single surface in the game, and by extension, is easilly a top 100 player in the game, often time winning tournaments whenever they feature tracks with multiple styles/surfaces on the same map. What I'm trying to get at with this real world example is, if a spartan is needed who is very capable at handling multiple, or even many, skills, then the best spartan for the task will most often be John.
That's debatable for only 1 reason. If you needed someone who was arguably an expert at everything you want Fred 104. It was stated in the books by chief himself that Fred came in second in all the contests and trainings, thus making him the most well-rounded at everything.
the averageness of chief has a quirk: its not the median. by there only being a handfull, and everybody having basicly one specialisation, chief is effectively second or third at everything. making him, in sum of all "points" the best. a jack of all trades is master of non, but often surpasses a master of one.
absolutely love the halo lore but your other channel 00 Multiverse im still waiting on the 40k Astarte's most detailed brake down. small jab aside always greatly enjoy your content keep up the great work.
Master Chief Petty Officer is a rate, not a rank. Navy enlisted doesn’t have ranks. It’s incorrect to call him Chief. He is a Master Chief. You don’t have to take a written exam to advance to Senior Chief or Master Chief. Bungie made a mistake when they portrayed the MCPON insignia for Master Chief. It is a permanently occupied billet by one person at a time (barring an unexpected death) handed over directly from the incumbent to the selected Master Chief to take over the position. MCPON is a title and not a separate rate. There is no E-10 and MCPON still as the pay grade E-9.
Master Chief is a rank not a rate. A rate is the “job” you have in the navy. Example, if you are a Master Chief and your “job” is Aviation Ordnance your rate would be AO and your rank Master Chief expressed as AOCM. Also, the MCPON is hand-chosen by the currently-serving Chief of Naval Operations. As for Bungie making John-117 the MCPON, if you are referencing the rank in his memorial even in Halo 3 if you look closely there is a piece of tape covering the 3rd star denoting that he is only a Master Chief and not the MCPON.
@@seanmccormick2363 did the Navy change that since I retired as an EMNCM in March 2023? Many people erroneously believe U.S. Navy enlisted personnel have ranks, but technically they don't. Only officers have ranks. U.S. Navy enlisted personnel have rates and ratings. Your rate is the noun name title associated with the paygrade you're at (i.e. Seaman, Petty Officer Second Class, Master Chief Petty Officer, etc.). Your rating is your specialty (i.e. Aviation Ordnancemen, Yeoman, Boatswain's Mate, Electrician's Mate, etc.). Paygrade is the E-1 through E-9 structure. The CNO may hand select the MCPON, but the MCPON is still an E-9 none-the-less. I am referring to the ending of Halo 3 where it appears there is a 3rd start denoting the MCPON position on the ratingin badge, which the OP mentioned in his video. I was correcting the fact that if it is a 3rd star on top, it's a mistake by Bungie because they don't understand the rate structure and insignias of the U.S. Navy. If it does have only two stars on top, then it's correct.
@@DS9TREK I'm not splitting hairs, and I'm not talking about the British military. People who don't know the correct answer use rank and rate interchangeably, but in official U.S. Navy regulation, rank is specific to officers, and rate is specific to enlisted.
I like to think that Chief is considered the average because he is the standard unit of measurement for spartans

Don't forget if he repairs and fires the ring, which is something he was trying to prevent happening the entirety of Halo Infinite's campaign he kills all the Marines, Fernando, and anything else living within a 10000 light year radius of the ring.
100% agree, though that most likely won't happen now that 343 MIGHT just completely reboot the franchise.
@@sorrenblitz805he would prob fight to send the ring through a portal with New Cortana's help, like the end of Halo Wars 2, and then detonate once he was sure it was out of range of human colonies.

Exactly. Isn’t one of blue team (I think Kelly) one of the very few “hyper lethal” Spartans?

Fun Fact number 11: Master Chief has never appeared in films or television franchises.
Halo: The Flood DOES NOT say Masterchief is freezer burned, but the narrator at that part speculates it is so.
The more I hear about the Spartans in true detail the more I realize; they're closer to 40ks Space Marines than I think a lot of nerds would like them to be
Most comparison videos I've seen put them both as pretty equal. Spartan II's anyway later generations of Spartans are not on par.
If you were to think of Halo being DAOT/Golden Age era humanity, then Spartans would be proto-astartes
Well he is the best overall cuz the rest are dead.
@@tinyguy1015 🤣
You have to remember that the "hyper lethal" designation has no grounding in the lore. It was an advent of the Reach game to prop up the empty lifeless shell of Noble 6, and the only way they could make anyone care is to try and make him comparative to 117. So they made up a nonsense term that, in reality, every single S2 would hold after 30 years of war.
@@xander.357 you’re acting as if Noble 6 wasn’t a Bungie character from the Bungie games.
Fact #12: when Master Chief dies he wakes up in hell and theres doomguy shouting "wake up Marine your jobs not done!"
Doom guy is the Marine so he would call the Master Chief a squid since he's navy unless you just calls him by his rank or brother
The fact this comment only has 15 likes is blasphemy
Master Chief has one thing that no one else has... it's called plot armor. It makes him invincible, in every way and form.

Another great enjoyable video.
John is the best at being a jack of all trades and master of none.
@sorrenblitz805 No, canonically, that would be Fred. The one who came in second in every training and contest would fit that description best.
2:30 RIP to Spartan Grace. Survived Reach only to be crushed during their first interaction with Brutes.
Well she got a few nades to the chest in an ambush, I think Anton and li had it worse😂
Technically, there is one thing master chief can do that no other Spartan can’t do and that’s clap cheeks
Calling chief average in over a dozen subjects means he’s not average lmao he’s good at everything
Apart from the legendary end credit scene of Halo 3
Master Chief Jack of all trades, master of none
Wow i never noticed that on the Voi memorial, I really love that detail of making him The Master Chief of the Navy.
All Spartans are given Officer's ranks. I think Chief was always THE Master Chief. I just like that nobody but Halsey and Cortana call him John.
@@sorrenblitz805 Master Chief is an enlisted rank, not an officer rank. Though if I remember right all the spartan under the UNSC army like noble team and kurt are officers.
Based on the pay chart of 2023 for the US Navy. Chief would be getting $9,402.30 a month for over forty years of service.
Him always waking up from cryo reminds me of the "incase of war break glass" saying lol
0:52 {Insert joke about something being average here.}
just thought of this when you mentioned paygrades, how much money has chief earned over his lifetime? and would he of even spent any of it?
Be getting that gold plated AR and Magum
He works for free, but gets to keep his helmet when he retires and never takes it off
I haven’t seen anything about Spartan-IIs getting paid (probably changed especially since there’s one Spartan in lore who retired and still tests MJOLNIR for the UNSC) but by the time of Halo 5 Fred is technically a pay grade above Chief but leaves Blue Team in his leadership willfully.
I think him keeping his armor that cost more than a Flagship to build is compensation enough.
I like to think John's averageness is something like, his stats are all 90/100, except luck which is like 150
While other Spartans have mostly 80s and then they excel at one skill like Kelly with Speed or Jorge with Strength
I feel like saying Chief is an average Spartan is really selling him short. Like sure maybe his skills when he started were average for a Spartan but Chief has been in constant combat basically nonstop for about 32 years. Even with all the augmentations and skill it still can’t compare to that amount of experience.
More saw 117 as a jack of all trades
All Spartans tho have the same experience except red team, and well those that died before reach
If Chief can be up to 450 years old and he’s only 49 while that’s considered 10% of his life. Chief is technically around 10 years old, he’s just a baby saving humanity. 🥰
Baby woke up and chose violence
Fun fact: Before Halo 4, chief was given the rank Master Chief of the Navy posthumously after Halo 3. This rank can been seen on his memorial during the scene where Lord Hood and the Arbiter exchange words with each other. Whether he still attains this rank post halo 3 is something we’ll never know as 343 has given us very little info about it. Most likely they have forgotten this fact or just simply do not care as 343 usually does
Edit: is actually nice to know Installation 00 touched on this topic. Most Halo fans don’t remember this small tidbit so its nice to know someone paid as much details to the lore as I did in my youth.
I have to say that if only 2 Spartans can be classified as "Hyperleathal' he's got to have something putting him a bit above average.

I love the idea of chief being immune to the halo firing. I imagine he takes on the role of the doom marine. Surrounded by flood, with nothing to fight for, he just fights, out of sheer hate and will to kill the flood, and flood learns fear 😈
Master Chief is more of a "Jack of All traits, master of none" kind of Spartan.
The forerunners could make pocket dimensions but couldn’t make themselves 5 dimensional beings
I like your content, thank you for making it🔥
Quick clarification on the whole Biblical reference thing.. 18:56
The verse read is not from the Gospel of John, but actually from the Book of Revelation which was written by the Apostle John, the same guy that wrote the Gospel of John and the Epistles (or letters) of 1st, 2nd, & 3rd John.
If the flood are immune to halo there would be no point of firing the ring in halo 3
One thing I think that should be mentioned is that John is the best spartan at one thing, nothing. What I mean is, he is the perfect Jack of all trades, master of none. And that alone is what makes him the best, by not being the best at any one thing.
He's good enough at just about everything he needs to be in order to win.

The war with the covenant would've been over if Chuck Norris existed in this reality.
@@mhm35 ima spoil this, did you see post credits?
I think people call it luck, but where every spartan excels in one field I believe master chief excels in is seeing opportunities. In the first game he rides a literal covenant bomb to blow up a covenant ship. He saw the opportunity and took it calculating the risks on the spot and making the right choices. I believe that’s why he is the leader because he doesn’t see things like other Spartans but rather sees opportunities and can capitalize on them.
Technically he'd be around his late 30's because of how much time was spent in cryp between different theaters of war during the humsn-covenant war.

"Chief is average."
Me: "Them's fightin' words."
Didn't Lord Hood posthumously award John his own special rank of Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy after the events of Halo 3?
Great video!
On the ending.... I have a feeling that the news that the Chief is alive and still fighting isn't that well known the wider public, and I say this for a few reasons:
17:30 what about jyn or jun (don,t remember good) in halo reach that flew with halsey
You can still fit about 3,000 games between the years 2560 and 2590, so whatever, but the Chief having the potential to be a Q is weird.
12:46 its a postumus rank, the military does that for certain individuals upon death.
This video reminded me how good halo used to be
As to your point about the flood not being affected by the Halo array, if I recall correctly there's footage in the Halo CE anniversary terminals that clearly shows flood biomass and forms being swept away in the wake of the firing of the array. I thought that confirmed that they were being targeted too.
I realized from a previous video Del Rio's comment of "hallucinations of an aging spartan" would pretty much be aimed at an 8 or 9 year old.
What were the three words master chief said to lasky?

@@xander.357 damn. John is so average at everything that he's second best at being average

19:20 Revelation of John.......
the averageness of chief has a quirk: its not the median.
by there only being a handfull, and everybody having basicly one specialisation, chief is effectively second or third at everything. making him, in sum of all "points" the best.
a jack of all trades is master of non, but often surpasses a master of one.
absolutely love the halo lore but your other channel 00 Multiverse im still waiting on the 40k Astarte's most detailed brake down. small jab aside always greatly enjoy your content keep up the great work.
You're splitting hairs. Rank and rate have been used interchangeably for the Other Ranks for donkey years. At least in the British military they are.
@@DS9TREK I'm not splitting hairs, and I'm not talking about the British military. People who don't know the correct answer use rank and rate interchangeably, but in official U.S. Navy regulation, rank is specific to officers, and rate is specific to enlisted.
Cool video!
He may be the only master chief left alive after voi
John-117 actually has an identical twin, who was with him throughout the events of halo ce and 2, known as Dustin Echoes-069
