    I recently purchased this model and year and I fell in love immediately! thanks for making this video...I appreciate all the little things you mentioned, good and bad...I really got a great deal..used, previous rental vehicle for less than 15K..HAD TO HAVE IT!! makes me feel, while driving it, like I am in a luxury vehicle and I am loving it!!! thanks again

      +pasnider1 no problem! I had a lot of fun, I actually shot it together with my brother who was in town from the Netherlands and had this as his rental car!

    I am currently renting the exact same car through Avis. I believe they consider it a "standard" level car. I absolutely am loving this car so much I extended the rental. I'm having more fun in this than my 14' Camry. This has also been the first VW I've ever driven. Your review is spot on. 14' Camry has a much better 6 speed transmission.

    I drove one of these today and liked it a lot. The price on lightly used 2015 models is just a killer deal right now. I ended up stumbling upon a 2014 GLI with 15K miles and for a only couple grand more I couldn't say no, but had I not seen the GLI I would have happily brought the Passat home and never looked back. Despite the Passat lacking the DSG, I found the transmission smooth and very usable. In sport mode it still got the car moving quickly when needed. My other car is a tuned Saab 9-2X (a Saab badged Subaru WRX) which is a lot of fun when you stomp on the gas, but is still fairly coarse and unrefined by comparison - especially with the Cobb exhaust system bolted on. The Passat is a car that would be very easy to live with day to day.

      I can't find anything wrong in your reasoning! MOAR power is always the better option in my book!

      +The Dutch Texan Haha right? I'm in love with the GLI. I did happen to notice this morning that there is an absolute FIRE SALE on brand new 2015 Passats right now. The limited edition is selling for $18K brand new at local dealers in Austin TX, I guess due to Volkswagen's current PR issues. I'm all for supporting VW now more than ever - most of the execs at fault have resigned and the low and mid level worker that had nothing to do with the emissions scandal shouldn't be punished with lost jobs. Now is the best time ever to buy a new Passat.

      It sure is, unfortunately there is no $$$ in the budget for a new car this year.

    I had this model and color. Only the inside was tan with that wood look. I lost it in a repo situation a year ago.................still regretting losing that vehicle.

      I love the older VW's. Like the bug and the busses. The newer ones have some really cool models. I saw a picture of the next generation passat. That thing looks awesome!But, this wasn't the surprise... It was a surprise that I could do a VW review, but the real one is still coming up! The next one, or the one after that.

      Every car has it's positive and negatives. I always check out recalls, and if I have any I get them preformed. I think this car would be a great buy!

    Love the Color combo! The champagne color with the black leatherette.
    Kinda disappointed it doesn't have a Center pass through in the trunk nor does it have the fancy stereo

    amazing review!! i can't understand how in USA the main transmission is the automatic... I prefer the manual over all. Europe thinks different:)

    • @casmatori
      @casmatori 10 років тому +1

      Our gas is cheaper, we have more vehicles and heavier traffic causing speeds to vary constantly, we have more intersections (which means we have to stop and start more), people have more money in the US to buy more expensive and luxurious cars that are automatic, we drive a lot more and for longer periods, we drive more relaxed and less aggressive, it's more convenient, a lot of people like to take it easy and would prefer not to shift manually, all commercial driving jobs (apart from some semi trucks) are all automatic, so there is no need to learn how to drive manual if you're not a car enthusiast, ALL cars in the future will be automatic so we're one step ahead. Need anymore reasons to help you understand? :D

    • @TheZombaslaya
      @TheZombaslaya 10 років тому

      Claudía Lisbette Zakrajsek In the US, you drive more powerful cars at slower speeds but in Europe, you drive less powerful cars at higher speeds.

    • @casmatori
      @casmatori 10 років тому

      TheZombaslaya Don't really agree with you on the speed thing. We drive faster in Texas than most European countries. On most of our interstates and rural roads, you can go 75mph. I've been on roads near where my mother-in-law lives where the speed limit is 80mph. In England and the Czech Republic, where I've lived - you could only go 70mph or 110km/h at the most. Another thing, especially English people, I noticed they drove tiny tiny little cars at high revs - so they put a lot of strain on the engine from constantly trying to race ahead of everyone. And because of this, you couldn't find an older, smaller car that didn't have something wrong with it or wasn't half-dead. Meanwhile, I could drive our old Toyota Sequoia quite comfortably, and be assured it's going to last another 10 years with another 100,000 miles on the clock no problem - because it doesn't need to be thrashed to produce power or acceleration.

    • @TheZombaslaya
      @TheZombaslaya 10 років тому

      Claudía Lisbette Zakrajsek And I saw that on some highway near Houston, you can go 85

    • @marcm4120
      @marcm4120 10 років тому

      Claudía Lisbette Zakrajsek i d'ont aagree with you. i think that most of the cars will be automatic but manuals will be stil being bought for people who love cars. and you say that you are an step ahead. what about the much more efficient cars in europe? petrol won't last to long. and one more thing, it's better to drive a car using all the rpms than only use the lower ones.

      I'm not the person that posted this, but yes it's Titanium Beige. Really just a lighter gold. I drive a 2015 Passat (black), and if you're in the market for a car...this is a great vehicle, and you can get great deals on used (low mileage) models.

    Nice review! I'm not really a fan of the "People's car" and all of what they stood for at their conception; but I must say I like that color (it's kind of a goldish-brown I guess???) it looks very competent. I agree with you though, it is very business-like in it's styling - almost a little boring if you don't mind my saying so. And I wouldn't touch that diesel malarky, they're just learning in England and France that the excessive use of diesel in vehicles and the sudden surge of diesel cars driving around is creating a possible air quality and toxicity problem from the nitrogen oxide produced...

    • @TheDutchTexan
      @TheDutchTexan  10 років тому

      Thanks! And I am a fan of the color. A darker silver metallic would probably be my favorite. Diesels never really made sense to me, they where taxed higher in the Netherlands, and here in the USA the diesel is more expensive. Unless you drive 40k miles a year a diesel makes no sense.

    • @baddriversofcolga
      @baddriversofcolga 10 років тому

      I may be wrong, but I believe the diesel emissions regulations are actually more strict here in the US.

    • @casmatori
      @casmatori 10 років тому

      Bad Drivers of Columbus, Georgia Yeah, that's because here we realize diesels aren't very clean. If everyone here who drove suddenly switched to diesel, we'd have a serious pollution/ nitro-oxide problem. Diesels cause severe smog, potential lung problems and even cancer. Not to mention they make cities like London and Paris smell like an old ship's funnel. But the European government doesn't care about that, because with a high amount of people using diesel, they don't need to buy as much gas/diesel to sustain themselves. So they compromise air quality and health risks over money.

      It is the better of the two for sure. But, with an exhaust you can't beat that 5 cylinder bark. Brings me back to the sound of the groupB audi!

    Als je niet had gezegd dat het een Passat was had ik zo gezegd dat het een Jetta was :P
    Lijkt totaal niet op een Europese versie van de Passat. En als ik dit zo zie zijn die volgens mij wel wat beter afgewerkt...maar dat kan aan mij liggen :P

    • @casmatori

      ^ As do I, but even at 5'11" I hit my head against the windowsill when getting in the back of one. I would not want that to happen to my passengers. If I want an uncomfortable car for my friends I'll let them ride in my mustang. LOL

    Hahahah that German ^^
    I hope that the US Passat´s dont have the same issues than our Europe Models.
    I work at a VW/Audi/Skoda Dealership and we have alot problems with the Timing Chains in the TSI Engines.

    • @TheDutchTexan
      @TheDutchTexan  10 років тому +1

      Well, just as long as they go south under warranty it's all good. I bet they'll come up with a fix further down the line. It's a very smooth running engine with excellent power. I was surprised at how it moved a big car like the passat. I bet it would even be more fun in a jetta.

    Nice review but car is ugly. Cant stand these new body style that began 2-3 years ago. They look and feel on the inside just as bad. No feel that its a German made car. BMW and Mercedes keep making their cars same way, luxury way and Passat decided to go different route and make them more affordable but worse quality. I loved my 2002 Passat that was Geman made car. Not sure what this is.

    • @TheDutchTexan
      @TheDutchTexan  10 років тому

      Thanks for the props. It is indeed not the premium car the Europeans get. But, VW does not stand a chance against a comparable BMW / Mercedes. No one will pay for a premium VW if they can get a BMW or Mercedes for the same or just a little bit more. I think they aimed it just right.

    • @casmatori
      @casmatori 10 років тому +1

      Passats are cheap though. They only start at $21,000 - they're not even in the same league as BMW or Mercedes-Benz. Passats are meant to compete with Camrys, Accords, Sonatas and Fusions.

    • @KAPETA33
      @KAPETA33 10 років тому +2

      Totally agree with you both. Its just that when i had my 2002 passat with manual transmission, all the electronics on the inside of the car, the heated seats and mirrors, the power when you accelerate - i loved it all. I felt like i was driving an Audi 4, that's how good it was. I feel like they had a chance to play in the same league at the time.
