I've been a nurse for over 20 years, and I wore Skin Musk back in the day when it used to be made by Bonne Bell before it was sold to the other company. I also used to wear Cacharel Noa (I totally forgot about that one until you broke out your bottle, wore it back in the 90s!) One more musk that I will highly recommend that is sold on Amazon is an oil, by a company called Amica. In the seventies used to be an apothecary style bottle with a little cork stopper. There are two versions: Naked Musk which is a very soft warm musk and White Musk which is a tad more floral and soapy but light and nice. Great for layering with other perfumes or oils. Amazon sells the two together for under twelve bucks. ✌🏻❤️
I wore Skin Musk back when Bonne Bell still made it. It's still lovely even though PDC brands bought it and produces it now. I will say that the oil is definitely woodier, warmer, longer lasting and stronger than the spray cologne, which tends to soapy and fade out after about two hours. I also wore Coty Wild Musk back when they made gift sets, which included the cologne spray, oil, lotion and talcum powder and I don't wear it these days because it's been reformulated to beyond recognition.
When I was a teenager I was living in Mexico and one of my favorite and abordable scent to wear was Jovan Musk. When I get older and started to work I totally forgot about this perfume but thanks to you I ordered by Amazon and can’t wait to smell this fragrance again. I want to recommend you a fragrance from Swiss Arabian Crystal Rose I bought it from Amazon really cheap and the smell is 95% like Roses Vanille from Mancera. And another one is Nebras by Lattafa that smell like Billie Elish perfume. I considered good fragrances to wear by Fall and Winter seasons.
Im a nurse too and I remember in the mid 2000s a lot of the RNs I worked with in ICU wore Lovely by Sarah jessica parker. It was a very light clean musk. Very much a skin scent. I even had a bottle 😇
Great review of Musks! Used to wear Skin Musk by Bonnie Bell in the mid 70s thru the late 80s....absolutely magical fragrance! Loved it so much!! Review of reformulated Skin Musk still sounds lovely. Will try! Also LOVED Coty Wild Musk and Jovan Musk and wore both of them! They were incredible!! Shame they were reformulated, though. Thank you RuthAnne, you always do such wonderful reviews!!⚘️
I've not heard of some of these! I love Kiehls Original Musk, and I'd forgotten all about Skin musk, that used to be the big thing, back in the day, that and Coty Wild Musk.
Have you tried Philosophy Pure Grace? That's another scent that works well for medical professionals. Iayer Pure Grace and Bill Blass Nude. It’s a great clean combination.
Great video topic! And I think skin musk oil is very sexy actually, any time I wear it I get compliments from men. They stop me and ask if I'm wearing perfume because I smell so good lol. The spray is ok, I have it as well but it just doesn't work as well with my body chemistry. I wish they sold the oil in 8oz bottles, I'd put it in my bath water lol.
So glad to have found this video! I also work directly with patients in Healthcare and love musk :) I wore Skin Musk oil in Junior High and have loved Egyptian Musk for a long time as well (Auric Blends Egyptian Goddess and Nemat Egyptian Musk are favorites). Alyssa Ashley Musk is an ALL TIME favorite as well (lotion & spray). Thanks for sharing a few more options. What are your thoughts on Coty White Musk for women?
You should try Jill Sander Simply Poudre....its also a beautiful discreet, fluffy skinscent with rice notes, cashmere, vanilla, solar notes, musk. Affordable too.
@@ruthannemackinnon588 that one (sun) is not a safe blindbuy at all and definately not for everyone. Simply poudre is more like Noa...to me its even more subtle and fluffier and I havent met anyone who doesnt like it yet.👌
Thank you for this video! I love musk scents. So many here I haven’t tried/smelled. I have a friend who raves about Nude and now you too. I might need it. 😁
Hi Ruthanne, I ran out to try Skin Musk based on your recommendation and I could not smell it at all. I even double sprayed it on my arm but I could not smell it at all !!! It was as if the fragrance was non-existent !!! I let my mother smell my arm and she said she could smell the Skin Musk and said that it was a nice, light fragrance. Skin Musk was invisible to my nose though. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.... I never experience a time when I couldn't smell a fragrance on my skin. Thanks Ruthanne for your reviews, they really help with perfume choices; especially when you work in the healthcare setting.
Some people can be nose blind to some fragrances. Musks are generally a clean skin scent & are lighter by their nature. I would recommend trying over spraying?
@@ruthannemackinnon588 It's funny, I can smell Alyssa Ashley and Jovan Musks without any difficulties but Skin Musk was a fail for me. I so wanted to buy this especially after your review. I trust your recommendations since I work in healthcare as you do. I will stick with your other favorite, Jovan Musk with the orange top. I love that one also. Thanks Ruthanne for your recommendations.
@@ruthannemackinnon588 I got my bottle today and am in LOVE with this new hidden cheapie! Fresh, round, smooth musk with great sillage & lasting power. Thank you so much! I’m really enjoying your chanel.
Beautiful lineup. Can you please suggest the ebay vendor where you purchase your oils? I have had not so great experiences with some of the oils I've purchased. I've bought "dupes" and they have smelled off to me. If you are happy with the Egyptian Musk, I'd love to buy one. I really enjoy that scent.
Thank you so much for this wonderful video! My favourite category of perfume is musks. I have never smelled Carla Musk and am very curious about it! Can you please share which musk Carla is most similar too? Is it like Ashley Alyssa or Wild Musk? Is it an animalic/unisex musk? Is it a white musk? Thank you for your feedback!
Carla Musk is more like Jovan than Alyssa Ashley. It's a warm soapy musk with some Bergamot in the opening. It's only slightly animalic, not at all dirty. Very clean & sexy
Have u ever layered skin musk under musk by Alyssa Ashley? I'm thinking alyssa's may just need to be on top on an oil to Last and project more...not sure though just wondering
Don't remember I'm afraid but I found it simply by googling musk perfume oil then going from there to ebay where there's always a risk if the product is good
I love Kiehls Original Musk, and it really lasts. I don't know how it would compare to Alyssa Ashley. That one always seemed very white to me, and Kiehls more brown, warmer....
Oh man this is my childhood in a video, seening all of these at thr store..and now I can actually try them❤have you tried vanilla fields? What do you think of it, and exclamation?
@ruthannemackinnon588 lol oouff, that makes me kind of want to try vanilla fields still just to see how my nose would perceive it. It's so interesting how we all perceive scent so differently. Have you watched the British woman's channel called skin scents for fusspots? She is one of us, she makes videos like you, with very affordable scents and vintage often , love her too
Covid changed things for a.lot of people. I was always ans huge fragrance aficionado and very discerning with my scents. I have a large, expensive collection. And guess what? I can't even tell any of them.apart. I smell no hint of their fragrance, just this acrid Chemical odor. The more expensive, the worse. Yet, I have turned to bodycology and those jovan fragrances and they have been okay for me as long as I don't use them often or spray too much. Oh, as for this parosmia, it doesn't matter how much you spray or how inoffensive the scent is meant to be (it may have been lovely t me pre-covid), I smell that horrendous smell that I always pick up and am triggered immediately. It may be mild to most people and you may have only dabbed once, but someone like me will smell, not your fragrance, but that pungent chemical of whatever is in it. So sad!! I hate it but I am just thankful to have any ssense of smell back.
I know what you mean, and think perfume sensitive people are oftentimes reacting to perfume ingredients and aromachemicals, not necessarily the scent itself per se, and I think this was true before covid. As much as I love perfumes, I avoid using them totally in perfume free places. However, I’m also curious if you react the same way to perfume oils? The Body Shop White Musk oil has been reformulated recently and smells so soft and light, I wonder how you’d do with it?
@@ruthannemackinnon588 I bought a bottle of the spray cologne, & I have to say I'm not happy with it. It only lasts about half an hour on my clothing & less than that on my skin. I've only had it a week & I'm almost done with the bottle. It smells like aftershave to me. I won't be buying it again.
