Hi Ruth, I recently discovered your channel and love vintage scents. I would love to try Candid, as tuberose and sandalwood are two of my favourite notes. I enjoy vintage Avon, but modern Avon seems to be hit or miss for me. 😀

Original Samsara Parfum is one of the greatest perfumes ever created IMO. I have about 20ml and treasure it! Candid sounds very interesting!

Back in the day, oak moss was more of a fixative. I suppose galbanum was the ingredient most use as a green note. Not that oak moss doesn’t smell green.

I have to get my nose on candid. When I want sandalwood I start with my mysore sandal soap which is really affordable and either Samsara or Sensuous by Estée Lauder. Sensuous you can get pretty affordable on Joma shop.

Have worn Candid on and off since the 1970s. Absolutely lovely. Avon has a lot of scents that are under the radar.

Samsara is my all time favorite, been wearing it since the 80's. I think they have changed it from the original.

I believe that the Samsara in the red bottle still contains real sandalwood that is why vintage bottles are so expensive. The modern reformulation is supposed to be only a shadow of its former self. I wish I could smell the vintage Samsara.

I am so inspired! I’m 45 and have never emptied a perfume! I feel proud when I use up a sample. I guess I’m a light sprayer!

Perfume is subjective, so you finding it inoffensive doesn’t means everyone does. For instance, I think Delina is the most repugnant perfume, yet most every other perfume lover adores it. What makes this woman a Karen is that she is in a public place, and could have simply walked away. As a perfume lover, I actually do believe that if we are somewhere where we cannot just up and walk away - then others need to dial-in their fragrances. Our jobs is one example - if we work around others, we do not have the right to wear anything that wafts more than a foot around us. That’s like holding other people prisoner. But when we’re in a public place and can literally just leave the area - people need to just understand the world doesn’t revolve around them, and walk away. If this happened to me, just like you (in a public setting), I would have done the same. These people are crazy🤪

Love what you say about Arpege Lanvin and everything you said was so true. Alyssa Ashley also has a white musk and if you like lilac, rose , jasmine I would highly recommend you give it a try , very affordable and will give you this lovely , easy going, nostalgic vibe

Gosh I love listening to your videos! That review of Lady Stetson is soooo alluring (but I am on a “no buy” for a while). Enjoying what I have! Btw, not sure if you saw my post to one of your older videos, a month ago I purchased a selection of oils + perfumes, based on your recommendations, from Valerie’s Uncommon Scents, and I am blown away!! I can’t stop wearing them… everything from her headache relief oil to Lush-alikes, to her own incredible creations, freshies to gourmand. Will review on my channel soon but wanted to thank you! And I sent her a note as well-lovely person.

Ruth, you've convinced me to try Arpege. My Mom wore this to go out for a special evening with my Dad, and I remember it well when she'd kiss me goodnight before leaving me with my grandmother. She also wore Ma Griffe, which is now exorbitantly expensive. Thank you for the recommendation for L'Aimant, I bought it last spring and used it up.

I’m shocked to say I never tried Lady Stetson because I do love Cody fragrances. I’m going to have to try that one.

My aunt (age 92) only ever wore two perfumes her whole life- Arpege until about her 60s (I think my grandmother bought it for her every birthday) then Tabu which her daughter in law bought her every birthday.

I have learned a lot about the classic perfumes from your descriptions which are really inspiring. I also respect the variety in your perfume choices and your attention to detail. Thank you for the effort that you put in your videos.

Im 26 and I bought a bottle of Fidji because my grandmother wore it, and I have to say I absolutely love it. I wear it in spring and summer and I always get compliments. Sure it may smell old fashioned but there’s something comforting about wearing it. I’m a huge fan now.

That woman had no right nor reason to treat you like that. Sounds like her parents didn’t raise her properly. I’m 52 and I miss the 70s and 80s so much. They were just as you described and it was a pleasure hearing your memories . I always enjoyed wearing perfume so much . My best friend and I wore Elizabeth Taylor’s Passion when it came out in 1988. We were 16 and wore that strong, mature scent to high school each day. 😂 It would be hard to imagine a young person wearing something like that now.

I have a few scents from WagsMarket. I have one called Nag-Chouly… which is a special blend of NagChampa and patchouly it smells so freaking good. And yes their Egyptian Misk is very nice. I usually buy on Etsy, Mama Wags and Rashid give the BEST customer service too. ❤❤. Loved your review!
